John Williams involved in Half-Blood Prince soundtrack?
John Williams involved in Half-Blood Prince soundtrack? A new article released by The Boston Globe today talks about composer extraordinaire John Williams. Potter fans know him well for having composed the scores of Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban.

Besides interesting information about Williams performing some of his Potter scores in Boston later this week, the article notes that he is hard at work on several soundtracks including Half-Blood Prince. But as was revealed back in November, Nicholas Hooper is set to score the sixth film.

So what's the deal? The article cites "industry reports," and a quick check on IMDB reveals that Williams is credited for the Harry Potter theme in Half-Blood Prince. The theme was originally composed for Sorcerer's Stone and has been used for every film since.

The newspaper could have mistakenly assumed this meant he was actually involved. We'll let you know what Warner Brothers has to say!

Indeed.

Yayyyy ^.^

Posted by Lyndon May 18th 2008

fudge, I miss his Potter scores. Goblet and Phoenix really suffered without him.

Posted by rooon May 18th 2008

That would be cool! : )

Posted by soof May 18th 2008

That would be nifty. =]

Posted by SceneLoveForLife May 18th 2008

I hope he does Half-Blood Prince. I think that would be really great.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack May 18th 2008

This guy rocks!! Star Wars & Harry Potter yeah!!!!!

Posted by bubblegumgirl May 18th 2008

hmm

Posted by kooldude10694 May 18th 2008

I hope it's Williams. He brings the house down with his music.

Posted by edm318is May 18th 2008

i really wish he would come back at least for DH. i would not at all be upset to see nicholas hooper gone.

Posted by Katharineee May 18th 2008

tbh I think the best HP films are the first three. So to get the fillms back to how they should be, we need Williams composing, and either Columbus or Cuaron back to direct. I really hated that stupid tune that was played all the way through OotP.

Posted by irishfanaticwhobelievessnapeisgood May 18th 2008

John Williams is a legend!!!!!!

Posted by hpwiz812 May 18th 2008

ooooh!!! i really hope he is involved!!!!

Posted by honeydukes0209 May 18th 2008

Oh yes! I love John Williams! I hope he does DH

Posted by Bellatrix_25225 May 18th 2008

I totally agree with what everyone else just said. Bring back Williams!

Posted by chidarkcy May 18th 2008

i was seeing POA yesterday and the music is the best of the five (was a good team with cuaron's artistic side)

Posted by tiassa May 18th 2008

He is amazing, and I do love ootp sondtrack(hooper?) don't get me wrong, but I want Williams to be back for DH at least.

Posted by sgarime1 May 18th 2008

I really do hope that Williams comes back to compose the score. He's one of my favorite film composers of all time!

Posted by Abergoat May 18th 2008

Hopefully he does more work with Potter. The first three soundtracks were amazing, especially POA. Hooper is good, but Williams is a legend.

Posted by DarthMuffin May 18th 2008

I found Nicholas Hooper's soundtrack for OotP to be a pleasant surprise, though that might be only because I was so dissapointed by Doyle's horrendous (IMO) GoF soundtrack that I wasn't expecting anything great from anyone but Williams. If I were the producer, I would do anything I can to get Williams back, at least for DH. Hooper is nice, but doesn't come close to Williams.

Posted by mav0127 May 18th 2008

This has nothing to do with this topic but does anybody know how many months before the movie does the trailer usually come out??

Posted by rooon May 18th 2008

I hope he does!!!! He's great!!!! : )

Posted by angelina_johnson92 May 18th 2008

I hope he will be back for the rest. His music is wonderful!

Posted by Abergoat May 18th 2008

I don't think he actually is doing anything for HBP. He's credited for the theme in all of the films.

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 May 18th 2008

he is amazing :]

Posted by rob1007 May 18th 2008

mugglecast is out! its gonna be posted!

Posted by tiassa May 18th 2008

thanks for the tip rob!

Posted by max_the_man526 May 18th 2008

John Williams is amazing.

Posted by hermyweasley105150 May 18th 2008

I hope so I love his work the first 3 were the best soundtracks of them all

Posted by dobbysglassyeyes May 18th 2008

great i am so happy he is awesome!

Posted by oofa May 18th 2008

The only reason he is mentioned on IMDb is because he originally composed the main themes in HP, like Hedwig's theme. I don't think he's involved with it-it would be cool, though.

Posted by HPtears101 May 18th 2008

i'm going to the performance of his scores this week!

Posted by SlytherinBabe May 18th 2008

gawd i hope he does the soundtrack for HBP! Hooper is sucky.

Posted by nitrogen May 18th 2008

John Williams in an amazing composer, and yeah, IMO, the first three movies were the best because the sound track and everything was nice, then on forwar they were all kinda crappy (IMO) i dunno about you guys. But i sure hope he composes for DH...he did very very good in Memoirs Of a Geisha (IMO that is) - that was a bit random but yeah, he actually volunteered to compose for the movie. Anyways, Harry Potter is not 100% complete without John Williams making it's sweet music! Long live HP! =D

Posted by poofer May 18th 2008

As someone from the area, I can say the Globe sucks and it's most likely just a mistake.

Posted by alan_74 May 18th 2008

HE NEEDS TO COME BACK FOR HP7!

Posted by nitrogen May 18th 2008

Oh yeah i forgot to add that i think Nicholas Hooper S U C K S. But at least he can still compose music. =]

Posted by Nellas_Unna May 18th 2008

Yeah!!!!! I love the kind of music that John Williams composes. Way better than Nicholas Hooper and Patrick Doyle.

Posted by nitrogen May 18th 2008

Well, Patrick Doyle did alright in GoF, better then Nicholas Hooper in OOTP...but John Williams is still the best composer out of both of them...combined...

Posted by Peyton_98 May 19th 2008

Wow. This guy is amazing. I love the Harry Potter Theme. I hope they can get John Williams for at least HBP. He is an awesome dude.

Posted by Abergoat May 19th 2008

Patrick Doyle is crap. Hooper actually made some really great compositions, some reminiscent of Williams' work.

Posted by wumples May 19th 2008

In that thumbnail Mr. Williams is all "Grrrrrrr I'm John Williams. GIVE ME CHEESECAKE!" Anyways, I'd like to see John Williams back for HBP/DH. I really question Hooper's ability to compose something worthy of Fawkes at the end of the book.

Posted by thathpfreakwiththefro May 19th 2008

I just wish John Williams didn't have to back out of GoF, because of all the movie scores he was doing that year. From there it was all downhill, because Hooper's a friend of Yates. I would be freakin' ECSTATIC if he were brought back for Half-Blood Prince, but I could settle for him doing both parts of Hallows. Seriously, though. I think the vast majority of fans of the books & movies can agree that the films would be better off with Williams. Could we make some sort of petition (starting on Mugglenet of course) to bring him back?? Please!!!!! -A loyal fan of all great pieces of literature and music

Posted by HDMSTRSNAPE May 19th 2008

You can be certain that Deathly Hallows will be another box office smash for the series. Warner Brothers would undoubtedly view any salary drawn by someone of John Williams' caliber as nothing more than a drain on profits. The movie will be a success whether it is scored by Hooper or Neil Sedaka. It is quite apparent by any standard of measure that the only thing of importance to WB is the bottom line.

Posted by joe_b May 21st 2008

We at JWfan.net beat you to a petition back in April. http://www.jwfa n.com/index.php?option=co m_content&task=view&id=96 4&Itemid=1 While Williams has expressed interest during a Q&A for scoring DH, the announcement of Yates as director for the film really slims down the chances of Williams scoring it. The only real way to get him back at this point would be for the producers of the film to override Yates and request that Williams return. And even at that point it would still depend on Williams' schedule for 2010.

Posted by RavenClawsKnight May 21st 2008

John Williams is cool but not as cool as in the Fourth and Fifth movie soundtracks. I feel John's music is not a lot of Harmony very childish one noted. The others are very complex music.

Posted by joe_b May 21st 2008

Do you even know what harmony is?

Posted by Moaning_Myrtle May 21st 2008

I wish he was involved! I liked his music the best! Hopefully he'll do DH = D That would be awesome if he brought back the "Fawkes the Phoenix" song after dumblydore died... It's the perfect piece for fawkes lament! I have the sheet music for it and am playing it as a piano/cello/clarinet trio. It sounds really pretty! ~Myrtle~

Posted by trueligth May 23rd 2008

I like music, I do not care who compose it, as long is good and so far it has been. Good for each of them. GOOD JOB.
