Universal chef reveals Wizarding World menu plans
Universal chef reveals Wizarding World menu plans Theme Park Insider has shown us a new interview they conducted with Steve Jayson, the executive chef at Universal Orlando Studios. Of interest to Potter fans, he talks about what you may be seeing at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park next year:

Jayson confirmed that he and his staff are working on new food service concepts for Universal's Harry Potter land.

"We've visited Scotland to get a real close, personal look at the cuisine that they eat," Jayson said. "We're going to have one restaurant that's going to have a nice selection of items that you would probably expect to see in that vein of cooking, and I think it is going to be great."

It's clear that great research is being conducted by Universal to make sure the Potter experience is authentic as possible.

WOW, not.

Posted by DudleyCool Jul 7th 2008

Wow, they're really doing a detailed job. First?

Posted by ginerva_weasley Jul 7th 2008

They visited Scotland? Does that mean we can expect delicious things like haggis?

Posted by aPotter321 Jul 7th 2008

Cool I guess. But more importantly, where is Mugglecast?! Lol, this is worse then myspace. Ive become so obsessive its almost unhealthy

Posted by iL0VEseamus Jul 7th 2008

They should have a great ahll type of thing with the long tables :)

Posted by Nirvana89 Jul 7th 2008

This is pretty cool.

Posted by aPotter321 Jul 7th 2008

I guess in Andrew's defense, its only 9:38 in Calfiornia, so i guess that is still considered "evening", but its 12:38 here, and assuming the show is going to take and hour and twenty mintues, i dont know how i am going to wake up tomorrow

Posted by Princessfoxx Jul 7th 2008

I can't wait! I really hope we're not let down.

Posted by konaman12 Jul 7th 2008

Wow dude! Coolness!!!! : )

Posted by tiassa Jul 8th 2008

I was going to stay in bed for at least another hour until I remembered MC and came out...I think I'll go back to bed now...Hey maybe it's just me being tired but wouldn't it have been a better idea to just hire some scottish chaf to begin with?

Posted by lupus24 Jul 8th 2008

Wow, I'm glad they're doing all this research! I can't wait!

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jul 8th 2008

I STILL think the theme park should have been in Great Britain. I mean, Harry Potter is BRITISH. This is an old topic though. Anyway, why do the Americans have to steal EVERYTHING?! Many of British fans who have been fans since the beginning (97') mightn't even get to see the theme park, because of money issues or whatever. Whilst hundreds of fat Americans can waltz in an out, not even caring. Hmph. This IS a mistake. Yay at first commenter! He is clearly living in Australia (by his name), like me :]

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 8th 2008

I hope I can go some day..! And by the way, I'm I the only Scottish person who has never tried haggis and doesn't plan to ever because it looks so disgusting??? Lmao. Anyway, it's really cool that they came here to see what the foods like, it means they're really taking the whole thing seriously :]

Posted by missinconspicuous Jul 8th 2008

I fully expect to see haggis and mint humbugs on the same plate.

Posted by Rose37 Jul 8th 2008

Great, now if only the movie could stick to the book, everything would be great!!!

Posted by igpx7 Jul 8th 2008

I want pumpkin juice and pumpkin pasties! Anyone here read Twilight? I got the first hardcover book, hoping to get into it Thursday when I have time to read it.

Posted by Padfoot777 Jul 8th 2008

Ha, I hope they have pumpkin juice and chocolate frogs, and drooble's blowing gum, and sugar quills, maybe butterbeer, I might try it!:) I wonder, if they make Hogsmead, will Zonko's and Honeydukes actually be shops?

Posted by Rose37 Jul 8th 2008

HPFANTimothy understand that don't want to start a fight, but if I have to start a fight, I will and NO AMERICANS ARE NOT ALL FAT!!! I will agree that hp is based in Britin, but can't Americas recieve some hp world as well as the Briitish???

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 8th 2008

Hmm..I wonder if they'll have Irn Bru?? That's a Scottish drink after all...

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jul 8th 2008

Rose37: No, because Harry Potter is British, and in my opinion, Americans seem to steal everything. Anyway, who cares? What's done is done, and no matter where this theme park is, the fact remains that it looks pretty fantastic.

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Jul 8th 2008

Wow, I can't wait to go there, but I'm even more excited for the rides, I wish they talked about those more.

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible Jul 8th 2008

Regardless of Harry Potter being British, there are a LOT more Harry Potter fans in America. Thus, the Americans get the theme park. It's pretty much in the theme park capital of the world, Orlando, Florida, where the weather is nice nearly all the year. Can you say that about anywhere in Britain? I think not. The people who complain about this are evidently clueless about what decisions are made when determining where to put a theme park. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!

Posted by FoxyShay24 Jul 8th 2008

It's cool that they are trying to make it as authentic as possible. But the thing I would be very excited about would be, being able to buy candies and maybe some butterbeer. yum...that would be fun. I really hope they are taking that into concideration. :)

Posted by BlueOwlfire Jul 8th 2008

Here Here Rose37 I wish the movies would have stuck more to the books. Anyone notice how the more we get towards the end the furthur form the movie they go? For Example: SS was almost right along with the book.. Then CS still goes pretty well with the book then PA starts to really distance from the book.. Lets on even discuss GOF they really left half the book out. OOTP yeah really disapointed there lets hope they can fix all they have missed in DH since they have missed so much.. But on to the topic at hand..... I was hoping for some of the food mentioned in the books... ie Butter beer, Tencle heart (sp?) and some of the other foods.

Posted by slytherinprincess794 Jul 8th 2008

bEtHyBoP13- im scottish aswell and havent tried haggis either, and i REALLY dont want too. my dad eats it on 'robbie burns day', it looks unbelievably disgusting. (i also dont like irn bru, shortbread OR mince pies.. not very keen on scottish food am i?) and on the topic of if the theme park should of been in Britain, yes it's based in britain, but we cant hog all the harry potter stuff now can we? Tony_the_Terrible - america is FAR bigger than britain, so your obviously going to have more harry potter fans. i cant wait for the themepark, i HATE rollercoasters though... but im still going to venture across the pond for it :)

Posted by felix_felicis2 Jul 8th 2008

Hrm, as a Scot I think they'll have been researching stuff like potato scones, lorne sausage, scotch pies etc...but I also hope they've been looking into tablet (YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!) macaroon, scottish fudge, edinburgh rock etc for Honeydukes. oh and I bet a tenner the sell Irn Bru; even though the american version is shite and flat the moment you open it! (apparently the real, Scottish sold Irn Bru is illegal in the U.S because Barr won't give food people (?) the full ingredient list and because they manufacture it with alcohol! If anyone has bought Irn Bru in the U.S, usually found in those tacky Scottish heritage shops, you can back me up on the crapness of it compared to the 'real' stuff!) totally went off the point there! and as for the US vs. UK arguement for building this park, I thought it was pretty obvious. Yes Harry Potter is British and yes it is set 99.99999% in Scotland, but how on earth could there ever be a theme park in the UK. Harry Potter is probably one of, if not the biggest money maker in the industry at the moment - millions of books sold, ticket sales etc - the UK could never handle that amount of fans - no infrastructure to support it, no mass hotels etc. Florida is theme park central - year round sunshine, Orlando is a city of tourists year round, more hotel rooms that you could ever fill...! Sure I'd LOOOOOOOVE Hogwarts to be built in the UK but it would never be done properly. The americans, universal studios etc are expert at making this stuff work and I know for a fact I'd rather be roaming about Hogwarts in glorious sunshine that grey overcast skies!

Posted by trueligth Jul 8th 2008

I can wait to see the park open, I am a fan of Harry Potter and I can say this is something that everyone is waiting for it. The rides, food every thing have to be perfect and acording to the magical world, so the experience it will be out of this world. thanks to every one in the proyect and in the details of the park.

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Jul 8th 2008

i cant wait for the park to open i well probably go down to it. this is something exicting for all ages. cant wait 135

Posted by elvendork_the_goat Jul 8th 2008

It's great that they went to Scotland to learn about some really authentic food and all, but I want magical food! Things they have to read the books to find out about, experiment with different ingredients, etc. etc. Maybe there doing this, but when I go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I want wizarding food, not just Scottish.

Posted by Tony_the_Terrible Jul 8th 2008

Leaky is posting that there is no trailer with the dark knight. Rather sad. :(

Posted by rooon Jul 8th 2008

Matchy!!!! : )

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 8th 2008

High five slytherinprincess794! lol. felix_felicis2: I agree with everything you said and i don't really like Irn Bru that much either - I didn't know all that stuff about it being made with alcohol...hmm.. As for the stuff about the American's "getting everything", It's better off in Orlando, the weather is so unpredictable here in the UK! We get like, rain, sun, thunder and snow all in the space of half an hour! [slight exaggeration?? i don't know.]

Posted by Tenorspaz Jul 8th 2008

Mmmmm....Haggis on a stick!! How cool would it be if patrons dressed up like wizards, just like a Renaissance Faire? I'm all over that. ~~Spazzy~~

Posted by alexxx Jul 8th 2008

scotland...like scottish food....mm...cow brains. >:P

Posted by CrimeofPassion Jul 8th 2008

So all Americans are fat, and America steals everything, huh? Wow. Good to know HP fans aren't ignorant! Also, I don't think the majority of visitors, many of whom will be young, are going to enjoy this traditional scottish food... Why scottish, anyway? Hogwarts isn't in Scotland.

Posted by CrimeofPassion Jul 8th 2008

And yes, that last part was a joke. XD I know Hogwarts is somewhere in Scotland. Still think the food could turn out to be unpopular.

Posted by Princessfoxx Jul 9th 2008

Well, since all of us here are Harry Potter fans...why can't we just get along? There's no need to insult American's. There are fat people everywhere and all types of people "steal". I agree that the theme park was most likely placed in Orlando because of the location. I'm glad I only live an hour away, and I feel bad for the people that live further away that will have to spend more money to visit, but anyway! We should just be happy! This is really cool!

Posted by gryffindor_gal_714 Jul 9th 2008

Hope they have pumpkin pasties and long lasting sugar quills.....

Posted by tiassa Jul 9th 2008

HPFANTimothy-I'm not american, and no one is stealing anything. If someone in Britain will offer to do it and Jo will say yes(and somehow I don't think she'll base her answer on where she lives, what size the people are, or who has more hp stuff) then there will be a british hp theme park. And you guys should stop complaining about who has more hp stuff, cause i live in a small country that none of you or anyone hp related dreams of going to(and if you or he does I'll call in the nice people in the white coats) and I have to be grateful if I get the book or the movies in the same day as you do. I know other people here come from other places where that is the case too and you are annoying all of us with comments that complain about how many hp related stuff each of you have

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 9th 2008

tiassa I completely agree with you. I don't know how a topic about Scottish food turned into such a hateful argument.

Posted by Rose37 Jul 9th 2008

I will be not only going to Florida for the theme park, but will be visiting my cousins in North Carolina which will be a long lasting memory trip, that I will never ever forget, as long as I live and I really don't care at this point how much the trip will cost, because I AM A LONG TIME HP FAN AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE HP SERIES!!!

Posted by HPFANTimothy Jul 9th 2008

CrimeofPassion: I didn't mean that 'all' Americans are 'fat' and 'steal' things, I just meant that many Americans have that horrible reputation :) Anyway, it IS true that Americans take a lot of things that are not from their country. I mean, I cannot name them off the top of my head... but I'm sure if you do a bit of research... Anyway. I just thing the theme park should have been built in Britain! I mean, the fact remains that Harry Potter is BRITISH. It's undeniable! I do't really care if the theme park is in the Florida, I mean JKR said it's fine. But still... many... 'true'... Harry Potter fans may not be able to ever go, as they will live in Britain and may not be able to ever visit America. Tiassa: You're absolutely right. Sorry if my before comment agravated some. Anyway, how can I say that Americans are fat? America is no longer the most obese country! Australia, the country that I live in, now has that disgusting reputation. And why? Because of McDonalds! And my friends, where is... McDonals originally from? That's right. Anyway, as Harry Potter fans, I think we should all unite in these dark and difficult times :)

Posted by merry_sa Jul 11th 2008

I've been reading the US/UK debate, it's very interesting indeed....i must admit that i agree that the park should've been in Britain, I mean I'm not either american nor british but i do not associate Harry Potter with america AT ALL....but whatever man, they should have just made the park on some random island or something.....anyways, we all love harry potter whether we're in uk or australia or us or south africa.

Posted by alfonzothegreat Jul 11th 2008

OMGOSH! im am so psyced ou t of my flippin MIND about this. i dont get it though, people are like "this is stupid i hope they dont mess it up" or "they should have left it". well i am exited, i do hope they dont mess it up, but i dont think they will, and even if they dont, it may be right to someone because we all imagine it in different ways. i imagine hogwarts way different that david yates (the director for the movie) because i protray it differently than the movies. even if they do miss a few details, i dont think it will be un impressive. it will be a work of art like no other. thank you for reading my extreamly oppinionated comment, im REALLY glad they dont have a limit, and if they do, its a very big one! lol
