Magical Tours visits Slughorn's House
Magical Tours visits Slughorn's House Thomas Pardee, the 2008 Magical Tours intern gives us an inside view of some of the great Harry Potter book and filming locations he is covering during his summer travels. One of the coolest places he checks out in this video is Slughorn's House, which will be appearing in Half-Blood Prince this November. To check out the video, click here!

You may recall that Thomas won his internship through a contest run right here on MuggleNet. To see more details about his itinerary, click here. This will be the first of three videos posted from the United Kingdom just for MuggleNet readers; so stay tuned for more soon!

1st!! I thought they didn't cast the Gaunts?

Posted by Hpfan247 Jul 13th 2008

thats what i thought, 2nd?

Posted by beatifically Jul 13th 2008

The Gaunts? I just watched the video and he says that it's where Slughorn's house will be.

Posted by SilentBob Jul 13th 2008

I detect an inconsistency as well. The Gaunt house and the house where Dumbledore and Harry find Slughorn are two separate houses. I think it is most likely the latter, as per the woman's recollection of the scene.

Posted by Fia Jul 13th 2008

Oh... Why DID they take out the Gaunts? They are majorly important!!

Posted by starlesswinter Jul 13th 2008

This is Slughorn's house, not the Gaunt's shack.... And the Gaunts are not that important...the filmmakers can easily say that the ring was passed down to Tom Riddle by his mother, or just mention the Gaunts. No big deal.

Posted by SpaceyStacey Jul 13th 2008

I thought it was supposed to be the Gaunt's house.. For some reason I always pictures Slughorn's house a townhouse. I dunno why lol

Posted by Andrew Jul 13th 2008

Yeah, I lied... this is actually Slughorn's house. I'm a little tired from all of the Portus craziness, sorry everyone lol

Posted by brea Jul 13th 2008

Ha ha. I was slightly confused...Slughorn vs. the Gaunt house. But I came back and the article had magically been corrected ;) Good one Andrew.

Posted by Kaitlynnn Jul 13th 2008

Haha. Aww it's ok Andrew. I got really excited for a second though, because I thought that they were actually going to put the Gaunts in. Sigh.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Jul 13th 2008

Coolness! I want the trailer though... :(

Posted by addicted2chocolatenhp Jul 13th 2008

Yay!

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Jul 13th 2008

Omfg! That is soooooooooo cool! I wish I could have gone!

Posted by hpfan28 Jul 13th 2008

that must be so strange, but yet so cool, having your house be a setting of a harry potter movie!!! im so excited i cant wait until the movie finally comes out!

Posted by Fia Jul 13th 2008

Where's the trailer?? And the Gaunts ARE important! In the memory, Marvolo waves the ring in the guy's face and Harry realizes in DH that it's a Hallow! So they are majorly important!

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Jul 13th 2008

weres the trailer?? and no graunts whats that about?? its majorly imporant

Posted by BlueOwlfire Jul 13th 2008

THEY are messing this all up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how are they going to take and exsplain all of the things they have left out when filming DH? unless they are going to rewrite the book? if they don"t do Bill and Fluer or Dobby"s death there will be BIG trouble and I mean it...... I have a few choice words for the WB but I can't use them here!!!!!!! XXXXXXXXXX

Posted by RIPFred_Weasly Jul 13th 2008

Wait!? They aren't doing the Gaunt's house?!

Posted by texas_hammer Jul 13th 2008

This just in! The Gaunts ARE in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! WB just annouced that the Gaunts ARE in the book. But not in the movie.

Posted by starlesswinter Jul 13th 2008

The fact that the ring is a Hallow is not important until the final film. It's obvious that Jo didn't have it planned until the last book, anyway.

Posted by Fia Jul 13th 2008

But it was important in HBP! What's Harry going to say? "The ring that was passed down to Voldemort is a Hallow. How do I know this? I have no idea. I haven't seen the Pervell crest on it, because I haven't seen the ring. But you know, it's a Hallow. Don't ask me why. It just feels like being a Hallow."

Posted by iL0VEseamus Jul 13th 2008

Posted by BlueOwlfire about an hour ago THEY are messing this all up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how are they going to take and exsplain all of the things they have left out when filming DH? unless they are going to rewrite the book? ------------------------- ---------- If you think about it.. if you HAVENT READ THE BOOKS it all makes sense so it really doesnt matter what they cut out or not. It will all get explained somehow. But if you HAVE READ THE BOOKS then your going to be one of the many that are yelling at the screen or explainging to everyone else how it really happend in the book like I do. Most of my friends havent read the book so at the movies I get mad when they skip a section they stop me and have me explain to them everything that was cut out.

Posted by Rose37 Jul 13th 2008

Great video, but I hate Thomas Pardee for being so lucky!!!

Posted by Abergoat Jul 14th 2008

I always pictured the house Slughorn was using to be a lot... smaller. But nevertheless, it looks fitting. It's cool that they're using this location again. This means that Harry's house in Deathly Hallows will probably be the same as it was in Philosopher's Stone. Hooray for consistency!

Posted by ltv7997 Jul 14th 2008

Great Video but i expected slughorn's house to be smaller!

Posted by Fia Jul 14th 2008

WE NEED THE GAUNTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by teamneville11 Jul 14th 2008

*confused.*

Posted by YouKnowWhoIam Jul 14th 2008

I totally jaw dropped when I saw the little photo, it's exactly as I pictured it. No hyperbole.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Jul 14th 2008

I pictured Slugy's house to be smaller too. I mean, in the book, it wasn't even HIS HOUSE that they met him in. i thought it would be less "huge". oh, well...

Posted by R_U_Sirius Jul 14th 2008

I like your pragmatism starlesswinter, and agree with your assesments. It is good to see statements like, "It's obvious that Jo didn't have it planned until the last book, anyway." Too many people are under the impression that the whole thing was mapped out precisely as she wrote the first book. It wouldn't take her so long to write them if she knew exactly what was going to happen in each one. I'm sure she had a blueprint but the journey there was open. As for the movie/book details. We have the books and can enjoy them. The movies are still fun even if they aren't perfect.

Posted by kornwheat Jul 14th 2008

The video doesn't work. The link goes to youtube and it says the video no longer exists. I would love to see the video! And as for Rowling having mapped out everything for the series before she started, I don't believe that she actually knew exactly how everything was going to play out. I think she most likely knew what was going to happen in the first couple of books, but that she only had a general outline for the remainder of the series. For instance, I would think it likely that she knew that she was going to use Horcruxes and that Dumbledore had to die etc, etc. I do know for a fact though that she had all the names figured out for at least the extremely important characters and that she had a notebook full of notes for each book and that she had drawn out maps of each floor of Hogwarts and the grounds and Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade so that she wouldn't screw up the position of anything. As for the Gaunts not being important, they are. It shows Riddle's pride in his ancestry, at least on his mother's side. And if Rowling hadn't intended the ring to be a Horcrux until the 7th book then why did Dumbledore show Harry the thought sequence with the ring if it wasn't important?

Posted by heronxobsessed74 Jul 14th 2008

This was a really interesting tour of some HP landmarks! I hope they do this again- after all, the title did say "Episode 1." And, just to add my two cents to what's going on above, Jo doesn't make huge decisions like what's a Horcrux and what isn't on the spur of the moment. She's probably known that for years.

Posted by heronxobsessed74 Jul 14th 2008

By the way, the video worked for me not long ago, and it's so cool that Andrew posted in the comments!! It's good they really do read them.

Posted by kornwheat Jul 14th 2008

the video still isn't working for me. It still says the video is no longer available.

Posted by thomaspardee Jul 14th 2008

Hey guys, Just wanted to make it clear that there will be two more videos to follow this one with lots more HP filming locations and landmarks visted! Keep watching for more posts over the next few weeks. If any one has any questions about the video or Magical tours, ask here or visit MagicalTours.org. Than ks, Thomas Pardee

i wanna go

Posted by Rose37 Jul 14th 2008

LINK TO VIDEO AND THE VIDEO ITSELF, STILL WORKS!!! MAYBE IF THE VIDEO OR THE LINK ISN'T WORKING, THERE MAYBE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR COMPUTER. GO AND CHECK IT OUT!!!

Posted by merrymarge Jul 14th 2008

i just tried the lik to the video and it wouldn't work for me. It said the video was no longer available. And no, it's not my computer. The link was posted on the 13th, and this is the 14th. I think the Gaunts are very important. Riddle liked to collect trophies and shiny things, like a magpie. This is important, else why would Jo mention it? As for Slughorn's house, it didn't really say how big the place was, just that the "Muggles" were on vacation in the Canary Islands. And maybe it was magically enlarged by Slughorn.

Posted by TheGreenPhoenix Jul 15th 2008

I don't mean to be obnoxious, but remember, this isn't actually Slughorn's house, per se, as this headline suggests. He is just living there, on the run from Voldemort. It actually belongs to Muggles on holiday.

Posted by kornwheat Jul 18th 2008

OK I figured out what was preventing the video from working. If you have Google Web Accelerator just turn it off and all videos on YouTube.com will work. Me personally, I am disappointed with the fact that the actor chose to play Slughorn is not huge. In the book he was very fat, almost Vernon Dursley-like, and he had a handle-bar mustache. But in all the pictures the only similarity I see to the book is that he is old and looks rather jolly.
