Deathly Hallows goes on sale in Japan
Deathly Hallows goes on sale in Japan Just a year after Deathly Hallows went on sale in the United States and United Kingdom, the final book in the Potter series went on sale today in Japan.

"I'm so excited I feel like crying. I'm totally enchanted," said a breathless young Japanese woman who gave her first name as Erina. She said she had waited outside the Tokyo bookstore since Tuesday afternoon.

"I feel sad that this is the end but since I've followed him throughout the years I will be seeing him out, and that comforts me," she said, wearing a blonde wig as Luna, one of the main characters.

Wow, I can't believe they had to wait that long.

Posted by fireheart911 Jul 23rd 2008

Wow, me neither! Top 5!!! Yay!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Jul 23rd 2008

I wonder if they were able to stay away from the outcome of the book. That would be amazing if they could go into it a year after it came out. I wish I could go back to the time when I had no clue what would happen in book 7!

Posted by rebel_hermionex7 Jul 23rd 2008

I would cry if I had to wait that long.

Posted by dont_look_down Jul 23rd 2008

to all those people crying about the trailer release, be thankful you dont have to wait a whole year!

Posted by up2nogood Jul 23rd 2008

I wonder how the words "Deathly" and "Hallows" translate into Japanese...

Posted by smileyseany Jul 23rd 2008

If i had to wait that long i would go to america and buy it. i've read it a million times now. its too important to live without! i cried when it landed in my hands. it was so sensational.

Posted by Erfa Jul 23rd 2008

This is the release of the translation right? Most people over there has probably already read it. But it's still a very long time to translate a book.

Oh my goodness! i don't know how they could wait a whole nother year after we got it! But i expect the wait was probably the same if they got the other books a year later too.

Posted by Rose37 Jul 23rd 2008

In a way, Japan citizen are lucky, but in the same way they are not so lucky!!! If you know what I mean!!!

Posted by acciohagridxo Jul 23rd 2008

wow, good for them they finally get to read the book. if anyone knows what deathly hallows means in japanese, please tell me =P

Posted by JM_Potter Jul 23rd 2008

I know what you mean Rose37. If I was Japanese, I would learn English fluently and buy Deathly Hallows off the internet, (that's if I had a brain like a sponge and could actually learn English that quickly lol), as opposed to waiting a whole year for the final chapters of Harry Potter..

Posted by RIPFred_Weasly Jul 23rd 2008

It just went on sail! Holy cow.

Posted by hermione93 Jul 23rd 2008

wow im glad i speak english!!!!!!! japanese is confusing i feel sorrry for them i dont know how they could not find out before reading the outcome of the book so sad!!!

Posted by RIPFred_Weasly Jul 23rd 2008

Wow. Excuse me for my stupidness. I mean to write... "it just went on sale! Holy cow." Once again, excuse me. =)

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Jul 23rd 2008

I can't believe they had to wait an extra year!!

Posted by anglone01 Jul 23rd 2008

wow. that is kinda depressing. i would have bought the book in english and then translated each sentence piece by piece with an online translator lol

Posted by hermione93 Jul 23rd 2008

i do not like your title RIPFred_Weasley because for those people who have not read all the books might not know that fred dies so sad !

Posted by phoenix_flames_ Jul 23rd 2008

waiting a whole extra year would kill me!! but still, i wish that i could re-live the experience of the release night...

Posted by nothedwig432 Jul 23rd 2008

Wow, I didn't know anyone still had to wait for Deathly Hallows. It's kind of strange, thinking that while we have been mourning about the "end of an era", that some people have still been waiting for the final book to come out. I kind of envy the Japanese, actually, because many of them are reading the 7th book for the first time at this very moment.

Posted by tiassa Jul 23rd 2008

I hope they managed to stay away from spoilers and that they would enjoy the book!

Posted by Rose37 Jul 23rd 2008

After looking though so many websites and trying so many ways of asking the same question. I finally found the answer to the question to "What does Deathly Hallows mean in Japanese and the answer is : Harry Potter and the Treasure of Death and I am not lie either. It is true!!! This is the answer to your question, acciohagridxo and if you don't believe me the following is the website link: http://www.cjvlang.com/Hp otter/book7/bk7title.html or you could just go to google and type in "The meaning of Deathly Hallows in Japanese" and than when page comes out click on the first website link and there you have it, your answer in black and white!!!

Posted by irishfanaticwhobelievessnapeisgood Jul 23rd 2008

Thank God I don't live in Japan!!!

Posted by rooon Jul 23rd 2008

Ohmighosh!!!! They just got it???!!! Oh well, they must be very excited! Enjoy it Japan!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) !!!!!!!!

Posted by MagicMaker222 Jul 23rd 2008

Wow slow ass Japs! Wonder why it took so long for it to come out there.

Posted by Stephanie_loves_hp Jul 23rd 2008

wow I feel so bad for them

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 23rd 2008

It's about time too..I hope nobody there got spoiled!!

Posted by hplvr14 Jul 23rd 2008

I just got back from Japan about a week ago and signs were everywhere! I found it ironic that I had brought the American version of Deathly Hallows to read. Yeah, every bookstore and supermarket had posters and special displays. I bought the Philosopher's Stone in Japanese and really wanted Deathly Hallows. So close... course, it cost about $40 for Deathly Hallows there and only $19 for Philosopher's Stone. So expensive...

Posted by phoenix_knight Jul 23rd 2008

that's funny, mugglenet posts two follow-ups after what i said. lol

Posted by sevviesnapples Jul 23rd 2008

awh, i feel sorry for them. they had to wait a whole yearr...

Posted by amy4dan1327 Jul 23rd 2008

omg, i can't believe they had to wait so long!!!! oh well, i'm sure they're all extra happy and excited about what awaits them!!!! =]

Posted by iluvron Jul 23rd 2008

woowwwzers they had to wait one year!!!! i would go all the way 2 america if that were me...oh well imsure they will enjoy it as much as we did (:

Posted by R_U_Sirius Jul 23rd 2008

Rose37...that can't be true. I asked a Japanese-American friend at school and he is SURE that it translates to "Super Ha Ha Fun Death Book".

Posted by SofieMalfoy Jul 23rd 2008

lol, don't be stupid you guys. It's not like they ONLY sell the american version in america, you don't have to go all the way there to get it. no wonder everyone thinks that america is such a selfish country that doesn't know shhh about the world around you. I live in Sweden, I bought the american version the day of the release, I doubt that it isn't out in Japan. Though I'm rather surprised of how some people in Japan don't seem to be very good in english, I used to figure that EVERYONE knew english. And I really don't understand why it took so long to translate, I only waited for three months for the Swedish one, and of course I had already read it in english.

Posted by heather_s_70056 Jul 23rd 2008

I can't believe they had to wait that long to get the book from the book store. Tuesday Afternoon! That must have been some long line. I just went to a Barnes and Nobles and got my book in about 4 hours it sounds like Erina had to wait 10 hours. That's crazy, but I'd do it too.

Posted by Hpfanaticgrl Jul 23rd 2008

What a great way to celebrate the week DH came out! I can imagine (seriously, i can) what those people must feel like. I couldn't wait a WHOLE year, but Congrats for them! :) This just shows how wide the HP fandom is, and how HP has been shared around the world.

Posted by july21tillhp7 Jul 23rd 2008

wow wat a rip off.. they had to wait over a year for it? harsh

Posted by mithos Jul 23rd 2008

over a year. darn, that sucks...

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jul 23rd 2008

Consider this SofieMalfoy: When you are an average age of 12 - 13, Japanese and just learning a second language, sure you could purchase DH in English, but would you understand the depth and concept of it? DH was quite comprehensive to say the least. Wouldn't it be better understood in your own language? (I'm sure you understood quite a bit more when you read it in your own language 3 months later) You can be fluent in a different language, but reading it is a bit more challenging. So to insult Americans by calling us stupid and for you ASSUMING we believe only the American version is sold in America speaks volumes about you personally. Additionally, speaking a different language is quite different than reading it or writing it. So please, do not pass judgement on those of us who express our surprise that Japan had to wait a year for DH to be released in Japanese.

Posted by hermione93 Jul 23rd 2008

also people remember that i think the half blood prince was released later than the the english addition so they really didnt have to wait a year longer bacause theyve always been a year longer

Posted by kleigh629 Jul 23rd 2008

OMG, if I had to wait an extra year for a copy of DH I would have run out and taken a crash course in English just so I could read it! That speaks to the difficulty of the Japanese language ttranslating English and vice versa, it took a WHOLE BLOODY YEAR to translate the entire book.

Posted by loony_luna2 Jul 23rd 2008

Oh my gosh!!! I don't think I could wait that long for a book that has already come out a year earlier in another country!! I also am wondering how the ending of the book was kept a secret from them(even if they are on another continent).

Posted by citylove3583 Jul 23rd 2008

man they've had to wait a long time! i wonder if they know what happens already since our book has been out for a year....

Posted by gryffindor_gal_714 Jul 23rd 2008

wow, they had to wait a whole bloody year! and i thought we didnt get it soon enough....anyway, i'll bet they'll enjoy it!

Posted by alexxx Jul 23rd 2008

holy crap dude. were all of their books let out later then us & uk? that sucks for them fur shur

Posted by emma_sophia Jul 23rd 2008

Wow, can you imagine just reading book seven for the first time right now?

Posted by nickypotter Jul 23rd 2008

wow i dont think that i would have been able to wait so long knowing that some other country has read the book a year ago, i wonder how they were able to stay away from spoilers.. i know that i was spoiled the day before -___-
