Entertainment Weekly's HBP set report now online
Entertainment Weekly's HBP set report now online The other day, we showed you scans from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly - they had new photos and a set report from Half-Blood Prince.

EW has now posted the report on their website. There's lots to be learned in this report, including news about the opening sequence where Harry is "flirting with a waitress".

There's also a bit about the flashbacks:

Kloves was girding himself for a grind, but after writing an unwieldy draft that included almost every flashback, the scribe and the franchise's current auteur in residence, David Yates, changed course. ''We distilled the flashbacks down to three. We see Voldemort as a little boy, and then on two occasions we see him as a student. By doing that, we honor the spirit of what Jo [Rowling] had done but avoid getting stuck in narrative cul-de-sacs."

They better be explaining it right if they cut the flashbacks!

Posted by iluvron Aug 16th 2008

awww i liked the flash backs....ohh well i love any news i guess (:

Posted by hpninjaskills Aug 16th 2008

All of it sounds great. Especially the Hermione-crying part. Too bad we won`t see it until July! RAWR!

Posted by G_wizzle Aug 16th 2008

Interesting report..........

Posted by dreams_wishes17 Aug 16th 2008

I still hate the waitress-flirting thing, but everything else sounds really promising. I agree that they'd have to squeeze a lot of info into the three flashbacks for everything to make sense.

Posted by BellaBlack7 Aug 16th 2008

FLIRTING WITH A WAITRESS??? What?! This just makes me hate WB even more. How out of character for Harry.

Why everybody seems very happy to be first???? anyway, about the flashback, i'm quite disappointed they don't include the Gaunts scene, curious to see how Tom Riddle's family looks like. But i'm more disappointed they push back release.

Flirting with a waitress? Harry Potter FLIRTING with a waitress?!!

Posted by InvisibleAparecium Aug 16th 2008

Top 15! I thought the opening scene was the bridge collapsing. I wonder...?

Posted by alexxx Aug 16th 2008

ahem, what! FLIRTING WITH A WAITRESS? wasnt the opening scene the whole bridge collapsing? and when was he flirting with a waitress? this is weirdd!

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

maybe he ment the opening seen for harry??? then maybe it's the bridge, narcissa, bella, and snape. then its harry flirting with some waitress. and where would he be flirting with a waitress??????!!!!!

Posted by kasbrina Aug 16th 2008

Flirting with a waitress smart, we hate you more WB.

Posted by youngregulus Aug 16th 2008

Flirting with a waitress? That's going to be interesting.

Posted by ccunni Aug 16th 2008

and marisa i have signed and written in. MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD EVERYONE!!! we cannot let them change the date to july!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by wtfomghaxx0rz Aug 16th 2008

That doesn't seem too out of character with book6!Harry. "Hormones are raging" as all the summaries say about movie 6. The kid is 16 after all. It's pretty brilliant that they add scenes to show he is a real kid that others could relate to.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

do u really think radcliffe will be naked in the movie????? ii hope not cuz none of the younger kids will see the movie.

Posted by tiassa Aug 16th 2008

They don't have him as a grown up at all? is this supposed to make you look good wb? cause it's doing the exasct opposite(I thought it was impossible to make you look worse. I'm sorry. Apperently I was wrong)

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

@tiassa: who is him?

Posted by thelexirumor Aug 16th 2008

http://hbpno july.blogspot.com/ The link I provide you with is a blog for a letter or "howler" writing campaign. I do think we might have a better chance with sending letters than with online petitions. It worked for Star Trek. Just get rid of the space between "no" and "july". Not to sound paranoid but I think this date moving thing might possibly have something to do with Twilight. I mean, what was up with Twilight swooping up the date we already had only one day later after the delay anouncement? I can't help but feel like Twilight just kind of took Harry Potters spot in line and forced HP to go to the back of the line. I really hope there isn't something WBs hiding from us (which they probably are), because if there is a reason they're changing the date thats unfixable, then I really hope we aren't wasting our time.

Posted by marisa4231 Aug 16th 2008

i feel bad for Andrew hes working over time with all these updates hes reported like the last 20 ones. anyways when is the next mugglecast episode?? this is urgent i mean July?????

Posted by phoenix_flames_ Aug 16th 2008

flirting with a waitress!! not keeping to the character of harry, is it?? i know people think that book six is 'raging hormones' and all that, but harry would never have the confidence to flirt with a random waitress. it's going to be cringe-worthy, you can already tell. and not in the slightly funny goblet of fire spitting incident. i mean in the painful way :S

Posted by chommy Aug 16th 2008

OK. HBP sounds HORRIBLE from what I'm hearing. This is NOT how I imagined Harry. Flirting with a waitress? W. T. F. I really am starting to hate the movies now. They SUCK HELL!

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

HARRY WOUL NEVER FLIRT WITH A WAITRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! ESPECIALY IF SHE IS A MUGGLE.

Posted by Maccii Aug 16th 2008

Flirting with a waitress?!?! OMG what is this? :S They're not only pushing the movie back until July, they make a crappy-as-hell thing out of the wonderful book as well :/ And STILL I will se it, only because I want to support Dan, Emma, Rupert, Evanna and the others.

Posted by fawkes_phoenix Aug 16th 2008

FLIRTING WITH A WAITRESS? W T F!! OK BEFORE I WAS VERY ANGRY FOR DELAYING HPB. BUT NOW..

Posted by hpintwense06 Aug 16th 2008

Aw, so they were going to have ALL of the flashbacks, but then they of course had to scale it down to just three. Oh well, as long as those 3 flashbacks are like exactly like the book, then I'm fine with that. But... uh.. Harry wouldn't flirt with a waitress. Not Book-Harry, at least.

Posted by G_wizzle Aug 16th 2008

I think there's five memories that Dumbledore shows Harry in the book and if they're putting only three in the movie then are they leaving the Gaunts house out? Cuz so far it's voldemort as a kid, the sluggish memory, and I'm guessing the third one is with Hepzibah Hufflepuff, I don't know. As for Harry flirting with a waitress it's probably on the Hogwarts Express but I could be wrong.

Posted by chommy Aug 16th 2008

@G_wizzle: Hepzibah's been cut. And you're wrong. They said OPENING SEQUENCE.

honestly, i think i'm gonna cringe when i watch radcliffe play a very unharryish harry.

Posted by tiassa Aug 16th 2008

WB_R_LUNATICS, him is voldie(sorry) and to whomever asked Andrew updated twitter saying MC will be delayed till tommorow

Posted by LckyDogJess Aug 16th 2008

The plural for cul-de-sac is actually culs-de-sac. Thank you Gilmore Girls.

Posted by ash2007 Aug 16th 2008

OK, I think the flirting thing won't be nearly as dramatic as it sounds. He probably just sees a pretty waitress in a restaurant and exchanges a few words and glances. Maybe the whole point of the scene is to show that Harry is single. I mean they pretty much left his and Cho's relationship hanging in the air in the last movie. Anyone who hadn't read the book would think they would get together again.

Posted by thelexirumor Aug 16th 2008

Oh but yea you guys seriously --- I'm a little worried that we won't be able to change WBs minds ecspecially since Twilight already took our promised date.

Posted by tiassa Aug 16th 2008

oh sorry marisa, didnt notice it was you, hey

Posted by pottertwilight0627 Aug 16th 2008

Flirting with a waitress....weird....

Posted by tomriddle Aug 16th 2008

I like this report. The Harry-Hermione scene seems very nice and authentic. I'm cool with the memory reductions too. It would clog up the movie a bit if every memory were included. I just hope they introduce the cup and the the locket. This information would all be so nice if we were going to see it in action soon. TOP FORTY!??!?!?!??!!?!

Posted by sailorprincess6 Aug 16th 2008

wait are the flashbacks the memories that dumbledore shows harry? im so confused. maybe i should read the article. one sec.

Posted by PotterGurl08 Aug 16th 2008

Harry...flirting...WTH? Oh well...we have to wait to JULY to see it. Thanks WB! *side note* I'm really happy to see Draco in the background looking suspicious.

Posted by Fia Aug 16th 2008

Why did they push it back?!?!?! It sounds like it's going to be really dark!!! I really want to see it! Did WB honest to God think we wouldn't mind? Is there something wrong with their brains? I mean, obviously, we cared! We've been WAITING FOR A YEAR AND A HALF, SOON TO BE TWO YEARS!!!

Posted by Fia Aug 16th 2008

Do the Howler campaign! http://hbpnojuly.blogspot .com/ Warner Bros. 4000 Warner Blvd Burbank CA 91522 818-954-6000

Posted by nothedwig432 Aug 16th 2008

Harry would SO not be flirting with some random waitress! When I first read about it, I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I mean, when did Jo write ANYTHING related to Harry flirting? I couldn't say he even flirted with Cho or Ginny, the two girls he liked! ARRRRGGGGHHH!!!

Posted by hermionefan67 Aug 16th 2008

I find Steve Kloves' quote from the Entertainment Weekly article quite interesting: "Kloves allows himself an improbable thought, then laughs. 'It would be a complete car crash if no one showed up." (pg. 39 Entertainment Weekly, August 22/29, 2008 issue #1007/1008) His thoughts and words may not be so improbable after all. Again, we all know the story so I think we could live without seeing the film until DVD release. Or if you can't do that, at least the opening weekend as people have spoken about.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Aug 16th 2008

20 bucks says they're going to re-dub the entire movie in Elvish because of the "wise" marketing strategy of getting the Wood-Elves interested in HP. Oh, and let us not forget that exciting new scene were Hermione attends a Prom with a guy from her Muggle neighborhood! Yep, gotta love all these new ideas WB has! *SARCASM* (maybe they'll at least keep Dobby's wedding in the script? One can only hope...)

Harry stared at the word "Pig," then looked up at the tiny owl now zooming around the light fixture on the ceiling. He had never seen anything that looked less like a pig.
