HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take
HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take Lots of news has been circulating around the web relating to Half-Blood Prince's move to July 17th. This post will cover several stories related to the move.

First up, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first Twilight novel, has announced that the film will take Half-Blood Prince's spot on November 21st. Summit "saw a unique opportunity to slot in [their] film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months." They were also quick to say that "by no means are [they] trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008."

Second, disgruntled Potter fans are using the internet to be very vocal about the move. Facebook groups, clever YouTube videos, and online petitions (that one in particular has over 23,000 signatures) have been trying to make their mark on WB.

Next, IGN has an article online which wonders whether or not the video game will be seeing a delay. The game was set to be shipped this November at the same time as the film's release, but that is now up in the air. An EA spokesperson told IGN "We are making a great game that Harry Potter fans will really enjoy -- we are evaluating the impact of the movie date change."

Last, a bit of an absurd story comes from an article on FOX news. FOX believes the film was delayed because Warner Brothers doesn't want Dan Radcliffe's good Potter image to be tarnished with Equus. We know that this is not true, as WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures.

i think this whole move back thing will go down in potter history.i love twilight and im happy its coming out earlier but i think that it should have stayed in its original spot: 12/12. it's not right to have another movie replacing harry potter.HP 4 LIFE.

The past three days have been the worst that I`ve ever felt. Shock. Anger. Depression. I feel like a dementor kissed me. I hope dementors are swooping down on WB Studios or something and kissing everyone they see in sight.

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 16th 2008

the you tube clip was great! Yes the Dumbledore Army is out in force and we will be heard by the money grubbing idiots and next summer they will have less money to work with. I like now it is a tentative date for the 7th movie first part.. because hey it would be in November again. So my guess we will get the 1st part in July 2011 and the 2nd part in May 2011 that is how dumb they are.

Posted by tatertot8284 Aug 16th 2008

Quit your crying Mugglenet. It probably is true.

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

hermie1958 actually i think jk rowling would be offended and it would feel like a slap in the face. They let jo approve the scripts and she approved the scene they added. she is part of the movie making process. And not only that but she wrote the books that inspired these movies. She sold wb the rights obviously for money but in hopes that the fans would go see the movies and appreciate them. So i have to disagree with you. With out Jo there would not even be movies to push back

Posted by thelexirumor Aug 16th 2008

Perhaps Mugglenet should organize one main protest. If anyone could do it, the folks and Mugglenet could. WB has communicated with them. JKR has communicated with them. I think while this issue is still fresh, we should really let WB know how we feel and attempt to nip it at the bud. Because in a few months, I don't as many fans will have quite as much motivation, which is what WB is probably expecting -- us to "cool down". Maybe because of Twilight, we've lost our shot at Nov. 21st. But maybe we can aim for something close to that date. Maybe even before Nov. 21st. Why not? Harry Potter was done with production sooner than Twilight, and Twilight got to move their date to earlier. We should at least try to get it SOONER THAN JULY, A part of this, I think, is that WB assumes the backlash won't be so bad because since the HP mania died a bit, the HP fandom is dead. Well we'll show them ---- the HP fans are FAR from dead.

Posted by HJaneWeasley Aug 16th 2008

ooh well at least we'll get the twi movie, altho that will be nowhere near as wonderful as hp hbp

Posted by Sorcerermickey23 Aug 16th 2008

I just wanted to let people know that if you have Facebook, this is the group with the larges amount of people (and therfore more likely to be heard and put forth ideas): "The Delay of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Has Ruined My Life." http://www.facebo ok.com/group.php?gid=2356 8371867 Us Muggles have to stick together!!!

Posted by Brendrs Aug 16th 2008

when i heard about this, i was hoping WB was just saying the release date was moved to rile up the fanbase, but i guess not :( There's NO WAY i'm seeing twilight now!

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 16th 2008

Well Ni12cole you must not have been looking forward to the HP movie on 11-21 then. The angst is waiting for the movie and being 98 days away and then the Movie money mongoers say ... no have to wait until next year we don't have anything going for next year and need to make more money off of the fans. Expecting us to still want to go to the movie to make them money.

THE ADDRESS IS ON THE WEBSITE htt p://hbpnojuly.blogspot.co m/ (REMOVE THE SPACES!!!) LETS PROVE WB THAT FANS ARE THE ONES WHO DECIDE!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by beth_28 Aug 16th 2008

omg now this stupid twilight movie is going to take HBP's spot!!! this is so not cool!! why did WB have to make this stupid decision. this has made me totally angry!! from the release of OOTP it will be two years now with no potter movie!! this sucks majorly!! i wish they would change it back :(

Posted by Astraea Aug 16th 2008

How about instead of boycotting the movie entirely, everyone just go to see it a week after it's release? Since they're so reliant on opening weekend grosses, perhaps that will send the appropriate message. If we're forced to wait 11 months already...we can wait 11 months and 1 week and make a point.

Posted by xSushixPackx Aug 16th 2008

I really don't appreciate all the bashing of Twilight on here, guys. This Twilight vs. Harry Potter nonsense in the media and from fans is really getting annoying. I am a fan of both series and I don't think any of you have the right to bash Twilight just because HBP has been moved to July. I, like almost every single other person on here, am quite upset that we are being forced to wait another 8 MONTHS for HBP, and think Warner Brothers is being ridiculous. But in no way did Twilight affect that decision. Summit Entertainment just seized the opportunity of an earlier date in which to release their movie. Meanwhile, Warner Brothers decided to be money-crazy pigs and pissing all the HP fans off by not giving us the movie on time --- not even close. The die-hard HP fans that don't enjoy Twilight have the right to say that they don't like Twilight and think that it's UNFAIR they get their movie early, but it didn't affect HP. HP affected Twilight, gave it an open spot. Sorry about the rant....

CALLING ALL TRUE HP FANS! CONTRIBUTE TO THE HOWLER CAMPAIGN!!!! http://hbpn ojuly.blogspo t.com/ don't forget to take out the space!

Posted by hpintwense06 Aug 16th 2008

It makes me so mad that Summit would just go and move Twilight to the 21st. I feel like they ARE trying to move in on HP, even though they say they're not. I am a Twilight fan, and I am excited to see the movie, but I was really upset that HP was moved, because honestly I am way more excited for HBP. I guess that's because I've been a HP fan for so much longer.

is it illegal to give out leavesden studios address here??i have the address. cuz then we could send hate mail there instead.

????

Posted by Sally Aug 16th 2008

I read a comment in TLC website that we all should go see Twilight to show WB how much money Harry Potter could have made..

Posted by saritat Aug 16th 2008

(my comment got cut somehow, I'm new to this) I honestly don

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

WB_R_LUNATICS thats a bad idea because that studio had nothing to do with the move og hbp. They film the movies there, but the decesion to move the movie came from the head bosses at warner brothers. you are better off sendign the mail to their main offices. Leavesden studios is not responsible for the move they are only responsible for making sure hp gets filmed hpintwense06 6 it may seem unfair that they are moving in on hpb's date but like warner brothers they are a buisiness. Movies do better earlier in fall than the winter months of december, january, february and march. They are capitalizing on Warner Brothers move/mistake. You can't be mad at them for making a smart move like that.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

im going to go see twilight anyway but im not gona see it until the previous release.

Posted by jcdpotc21 Aug 16th 2008

Guys, don't not see the movie. Just don't buy the Harry Potter ticket, buy a ticket for something else. It's simple

Posted by JCWM2 Aug 16th 2008

This is utterly ridiculous. I'm sorry I'm not an tween girl who can get excited about Twilight. Seems like they're trying to release Twilight as quickly as they can while they have someone willing to go see it because they know HP will always have followers. Twilight follows such an overdone premise and the fact that it became popular only shows that the literary interests of today's youth has become nothing more than a penchant for a world of dreadfully terrible pseudo-romanticism and Silver Ravenwolf-esque, unimaginative novels. Why not just have them stick with pop-up books?

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

jcdpotc21 thats gonna be another stupid move because either way the movie will probably sell out and than all you are gonna do is cause problems when you are sitting in someones seat who actually paid. Thats just unfair and will ultimatly backfire on the fans. Like i said earlier by not buying tickert we could cause money to be cut from the deathly hallows budget or promotion.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

oh so they just film there. ok. but it was cool cuz i got emma watson's autograph for free, but it was just a copy.:(

Posted by hpintwense06 Aug 16th 2008

Great video, LumosSolem90!

Posted by saritat Aug 16th 2008

Argh, maybe my comment was too long or something. Anyway, I just don't understand why this is a contest of which movie/franchise wins? Isn't that EXACTLY what Warner Bros and The Summit want? They're getting people to watch the movies multiple times out of spite/competiting now? And, in my opinion we shouldn't give up on howlers yet - they could still go for December if we force them. I know they're probably deleting ALL of their emails without reading by now and they could just burn all the red envelopes, but isn't the point to get noticed and annoy and worry them into possibly changing the date?

Posted by donna02760 Aug 16th 2008

BOYCOTT TWILIGHT!!! If that movie is taking the place of the HBP release date, it means WB is trying to piggy back on HP! WB is using the HP fans in hopes of them flocking to Twilight since HBP is not going to be released Nov 21. If HP fans do nothing else, I say, again- Boycott Twilight!!!

Posted by joshlhiggins Aug 16th 2008

I can't wait to see what the MuggleCast crew has to say about this tomorrow!

Posted by GinnyIsGenius Aug 16th 2008

Boycotting HBP doesn't particularly appeals to me because I will be hurting a lot of people that don't have anything to do with the WB, including the actors, the crew and even all of the Davids: Baron, Heyman and Yates. Not to count my self in the bunch! I want to see the darned movie too! It's not their fault. I will not go against the HP own franchise and/or any JKR related work when all I want is to hurt the WB ownership. Boycotting other WB movies makes more sense, IMO. That's what I'll do.

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

saritat even though the fans would feel better about a december release doesn't mean warner brothers will. They have made it clear this is a money move for them and December is one of the worst months to release movies which is probably why twilight jumped at the opportunity to move to november. If it was released in december they would have to contend with all the holidays and people spend less in movie theaters because of that. Also another reason why they want that July date next year is so that they can realease hbp in time for christmas in 09, more money for them. This unfortunatly is not about what the fans want.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

i dont personally care about the money or sales. i just want WB to know how greedy they are being.

Posted by wofe87 Aug 16th 2008

So I was in St.Paul MN today and was going to go see Batman on the Imax which iv been planning for a while and then I went oh yeah thats a WB movie nevermind. So the imax and WB just lost about $28 because me and a friend didnt go so there you go WB!

Posted by donna02760 Aug 16th 2008

I said boycott TWILIGHT- not HBP!

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

donna02760 2 boycotting twilight will do nothing because they are being distributed by two different companys. So wb is not trying to ride the hp back to make twilight money. If anything they don't want twilight to make money

Posted by saritat Aug 16th 2008

I'm not naive, I know that this is not about what fans want, but if we are all giving up, what's the use of even discussing? I'm just saying that business, although about making money, is about customer satisfaction. Especially if you intend to do long term business. And that is where WB dropped the ball, and that is what I -personally- recent the most. Also there's been a lot of talk about what Potter movie made what money and how that correlates to the release date, I don't think it's absolute, especially this far in the series.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

if only WB could be more like The Summit. trying to do what the fans want. moving the movie closer, not moving it 7 months!!!!!!

Posted by Rose37 Aug 16th 2008

You know what, I am also as mad, as the next person, but when it comes down to die heart fans, like myself and people I know, there is not dought, that even tho we are mad, wb will recieve the love and support and if not all, but most of the hp fans, will end up seeing the six harry potter movie, nomatter what date the movie falls on!!!

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 16th 2008

saritat i am not saying don't protest, but i am being realistic. Either way come july hbp wil be released to sold out theaters and wb knows people are mad and knew people would be mad, but they are figuring by july it will all simmer down. And honestly people on the wb voicing their concerns are a small fraction of the actual viewers of the movies unfortunatly. Those are the people who are not die hard harry potter and they will go see the movie.

Posted by ilovedan Aug 16th 2008

TWILIGHT YOU WILL NEVER NEVER EVER EVER REPLACE OR TAKE OVER HARRY POTTER! STOP TRYING TO BE A HARRY POTTER WANNABE AND GOAWAY! you took our date! that was our date! we want it back right now! =(

Posted by arwyn Aug 16th 2008

Boycotting Warner Brothers is fun :) i'm adding it to all my sigs, myspace, facebook, etc...

Posted by saritat Aug 16th 2008

Erin2m5- I don't want to or mean to argue with you and I wont. I'll just say that we have a very different idea of what makes a die hard fan. Everyone protest or boycott in the way they want to, peace out! :))

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

lol ilovedan

Posted by alexxx Aug 16th 2008

alright, soo wait..they cancelled the 21st release date because of twilight? or twilight took it after wb let i go?

Posted by alexxx Aug 16th 2008

um lemme just say that i am not boycotting the movie because thats ridiculous, i couldnt stand not seeing the 6th harry potter movie, thats freaking insane

Posted by Braves841 Aug 16th 2008

hmm everyone of talked to thinks wb will fold under pressure...lets keep it up ladies and gentlemen continue the hate mail sign the petitions, boycott their movies. i dont care if they just put it in twilights old spot three weeks delay i can somewhat handle 8 months is effing ridiculous!!...but on a good note the clone wars and tdk have only made a combined 11 mill this weekend...probably below what WB thought it would get especially opening of a star wars flick? lets make WB regret ever messing with the hearts of millions of HP fans..

Posted by xtakemeawayx Aug 16th 2008

I figured Twilight would jump on this and take the slot. It's a good slot. I'm still in shock with this decision. I understand that next year is weak for movies and they feel like they can make more money in a summer slot. But the fans are what matter and the fans have been waiting, maybe not so patiently, but we are ready for the movie.
