HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take
HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take Lots of news has been circulating around the web relating to Half-Blood Prince's move to July 17th. This post will cover several stories related to the move.

First up, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first Twilight novel, has announced that the film will take Half-Blood Prince's spot on November 21st. Summit "saw a unique opportunity to slot in [their] film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months." They were also quick to say that "by no means are [they] trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008."

Second, disgruntled Potter fans are using the internet to be very vocal about the move. Facebook groups, clever YouTube videos, and online petitions (that one in particular has over 23,000 signatures) have been trying to make their mark on WB.

Next, IGN has an article online which wonders whether or not the video game will be seeing a delay. The game was set to be shipped this November at the same time as the film's release, but that is now up in the air. An EA spokesperson told IGN "We are making a great game that Harry Potter fans will really enjoy -- we are evaluating the impact of the movie date change."

Last, a bit of an absurd story comes from an article on FOX news. FOX believes the film was delayed because Warner Brothers doesn't want Dan Radcliffe's good Potter image to be tarnished with Equus. We know that this is not true, as WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures.

Posted by joshlhiggins Aug 16th 2008

Only 333 days left! Hopefully the triple digit 3's will give us luck and maybe WB will change their minds. But very unlikely

Phelps is a beast.

Phelps IS a beast! and that video is brilliant.

First, stupid move on Twilights behalf. They should know people are going to boycott them for taking away the hope of getting back Nov. 21. Second, I am pssed. I am very, VERY pssed about this. Twighlight will never, ever get as much money as HBP will get. There are not a lot of TL fans, but more HBP fans. Besides, TL sucks, sorry! Third, BOOTLEGS. I'm not going to go, wait till the dvd comes out, and get the bootleg. D: I might. I dunno. MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD.

what do u mean by him being a beast???????? he's the best olympian ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Posted by megblack89 Aug 16th 2008

I dont agree we should boycott HPB at the movies at all (I guess we could wait first weekend but we need a massive agreement as fans to make that work) ...... because a) we deserve it as fans on the big screen, b) I would hate for the actors and people who worked hard on the movie be disadvantaged, and c) like someone else mentioned, what if that impacts on the making of DH movies. I think we should boycott ALL OTHER WB movies and continue the DUMBLEDORES ARMY that we harry potter fans are, just to make it very clear to WB they are the worst muggles alive. I want to see twilight I dont think it should be boycotted because then WB still win. Besides Summit did right by their fans unlike WB who totally stabbed us in the back.

Posted by flibbertigibbit Aug 16th 2008

a beast in a good way. synonymous with BAMF.

Posted by tubaturtle Aug 16th 2008

I've already done about 80% of what I can. I've sent one email trying to make them feel as guilty as possible, but then I realized afterwards that no one there has a heart or a soul, but I tried my best. And Twilight taking HBP's place makes me SOOOOOOOO mad!!!! WB will regret this decision sooner or later....

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

oh. he's soooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooo amazing!!!i cant wait to see more interviews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by mode101 Aug 16th 2008

I cannot wait to see snape on top of the astronomy tower now that is going to be awesome. Finally alan rickman's character is going to shine. Too bad we have to wait 11 months to see it. Hopefully jo can do something about it.

Posted by megblack89 Aug 16th 2008

i had my email to WB rejected as spam. oh and MUGGLENET have to be the ones to powerfully unite the fans to agree on how we'll deal with this... Boycott the movie? Wait a week? What? I dont know how, but I guess there's 11 months for that.

Posted by WB_R_LUNATICS Aug 16th 2008

i dont think 11 months has sunk in yet.

Posted by mode101 Aug 16th 2008

It has for me. I keep staring at that 334 days until it comes out. I hate that count down it makes it worse. I seriously doubt wb will change it but that does not mean we cannot let them have it. All of the stockholders are probably getting a fat stack of cash for it. It makes me sick. Corporate greed wins again. Corporations like wb can burn in hell.

A New Unbreakable Vow: No opening weekend. No repeat viewings. No other WB movies:. (Star Wars: the Clone Wars, Towelhead, Nights in Rodanthe, RocknRolla, Body of Lies, Pride and Glory, Slumdog Millionaire, Eddie Dickens and the Awful End, Yes Man, Gran Torino, Spring Breakdown, Ninja Assassin, This Side of the Truth, The Informant, Observe and Report, Whiteout, Terminator Salvation: the Future Begins, The Box, Untitled Superman Returns Sequel) Let WB know this. we were sooooo close... it was going to open in 100 something day .... so darn close.... :( oh boo!

Posted by avadakedavratheWB Aug 16th 2008

I know from the recent news many of the fans are highly upset (thats putting it lightly) with the WB. And we all know the WB delayed Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from its November 21st release date all the way to July 17, 2009 just to make more money!!! And they have basically admitted to this in their press release !!! Therefore, I purpose a silent but expressive protest on the day of July 17, 2009 were we do not buy tickets for that opening day of HBP or purchase any WB Merchandise. And also from today until July we will no longer support there films or merchandise. This protest is the fans way of showing the WB who really controls Harry Potter. This is a day to show the BIG, MONEY GRUBBING WB that we will not take this lying down !!! That we as fans are not pushovers, and as the people who created this franchise we should know the truth and have a say in this. We already have 355 to wait, whats one more ? Because if you think about it opening night is one of the most important nights of opening weekend !!! We would be proving a point to the WB that we, the fans and customer, should have a say in the movies !!!! And if we yell loud enough and spread the word far enough we may actually get what we want !!!! So, Jion the cause !!!! rant O.M.G. when i read that Twilight was coming out on the day that HBP was supposed to come out, i was so F U C K I N G PISSED. i honestly felt as though i got slapped in the face, while i was already down. i mean, WHAT THE F U C K? i mean i understand why Summit wants to release Twilight earlier (they wanna know if it's going to be a blockbuster like they're hoping for) but in the spot that HBP was supposed to come out? are you f u c k i n g serious? i mean why can't you release it on Nov 14? or Nov 28? why on the day that HBP was supposed to come out? GRRRR. that is just a f u c k i n g psst off. honestly i like Twilight and i am going to watch the movie, but just not on opening weekend. sorry Summit, but that weekend was reserved for HBP and that's the way it's staying. if Twilight thinks that they can cover my Harry Potter fix, i got a news flash for them THAT'S NEVER, EVER GOING TO HAPPEN. also, i just wanna say that i'm kind of jealous of Twilight fans, i mean they get to see their movie EARLIER and Summit at least ACTS like they care for their fans. WB can't even claim to do that. Twilighters don't know how amazingly good they got it. seriously. and about boycotting Twilight, i just wanna say that even though i know what they did was a slap in the face, it's not Summit's fault that WB are stupid greedy bastards. but if you wanna watch Twilight, while still pissing off the eff out of Summit, then boycott it opening weekend, or watch it on they day it was supposed to come out. but if you're boycotting it completely, i applaud you. i wish i had the will power to do that =( and since we're on the subject of boycotting, don't boycott HBP. boycott WB films, but not HBP. i mean, that's rude to the cast and crew who have worked so hard on this film. and by not seeing HBP, it's going to impact DH. WB will see that people have lost interested in Harry Potter and won't put effort into making DH as fepic as it should be. LumosSolem90, your video was AWESOME...

Posted by GinnyIsGenius Aug 16th 2008

Well, it looks like it WAS greed driven. Even WB's official statement blatantly suggests it.

Posted by d0bbyr0cksmys0cks Aug 17th 2008

...LumosSolem90, your video was AWESOME! and even though i know the petition won't work, i signed it anyways. there's no harm in trying right? and as for the video game, i'm sad to say that i'm pretty sure they're going to release it in July, but at least they'll have time to make it perfect! Fox News can STFU, thank you very much. stop blaming it on DanRad. it's WB's fault, and no one elses'. and can i just say that if WB moved the date back to Nov 21, Summit would change the back to Dec. 12. i promise you that. they're not going to release their only hope of a blockbuster on the same day as the LARGEST GROSSING FRANCHISE EVER. but darn wouldn't be HILARIOUS if WB was like "SIKE, MUTHA F U C K A S! WE IZ REALEASING HBP ON NOV 21.WE'LL C U @ TEH FINISH LINE SUMMIT!" /rant

Posted by honeydukes0209 Aug 17th 2008

LumosSolem90, I really loved your video. It was awesome! I saw it and started rofl. Thanks for making me and many others feel somewhat better. ;) *sigh* FOX is delusional. I was also disappointed and surprised that Twilight was taking the Nov. 21 slot...just thought it wasn't write. But, yeah, it wasn't Summit's fault...just stupid WB's for making the change in the first place...

Posted by GreenEyes Aug 17th 2008

I'm boycotting WB films too until they give me HP! This is STUPID. It will be over a year between OoTP and HBP!! GODD!! It was so close and then BOOM one more stupid year!

Posted by Travis Aug 17th 2008

Haha, Fox News is ridiculous. They report it as if it's the truth rather than just a (stupid) theory. I am mildly annoyed about having to wait longer for this movie, but I am not angry with WB. They don't owe me anything. I also don't mind the Twilight movie being released on that day; my girlfriend is a fan of the series. However, I don't like when I hear reports that Twilight is the "new Harry Potter." Apparently they're pretty much romance novels and appeal primarily to teen girls. Not that there's nothing wrong with a book like that, but it's really pretty different from HP, and I don't like the idea of every new popular book series fad being treated as a replacement for Harry Potter.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 17th 2008

ok so I was planning on seeing Twlight but now I just can't. There's NO WAY I can go sit in the theater knowing that I could have been watching HBP instead. Thanx WB for not just making us wait but taking away my desire to see Twilight. It makes me feel sooooooooo sad to even think about going to see ANY movie released that weekend when we were supposed to get Harry:(

Posted by nightride Aug 17th 2008

We need to band together and go see Twilight on opening weekend to show WB that it WAS the best weekend!

Posted by keesli Aug 17th 2008

Hey everyone, just wanted to make sure you all are aware that WB is most likely planting people on all HP websites, having them make comments in support of WB or at the very least in support of not boycotting WB... just keep that in mind, especially when the emails are long-winded and condescending. Fight the power.

Posted by moonysgirlxx Aug 17th 2008

DUDE. No. Just no... I mean I love Twilight and I'm not really annoyed that it's being released earlier, because that means it WILL be released in December for Australia, but WB moving Harry Potter...? That's bad. Baaaaaaaad. Twilight's going to be majorly big, but I don't think even Twilight would be able to surpass Harry Potter. WB should have more faith in us fans. Besides, don't WB spare a thought for the rest of us in the world? In the southern hemsphire(sp) we're going to be in winter, and more then likely at SCHOOL. I mean they're doing exactly what Disney did with the new Narnia movie... Good movie, marketed wrong. What if something unexpected becomes a massive hit and it's released the exact same time as HP? Then it would all be for nothing. Besides, they've finished filming already, what's the point of waiting? ESPECIALLY after them releasing a teaser trailer. I mean is that cruel or what?!? If they had any sense as well, they would release this movie SOONER rather then LATER. While there's still a big hype around it. Harry Potter's going to get money anyway, I think WB's put their foot in their mouths on this one though, it just goes to show they really do care more about making money. Well how do they hope to make so much money if they annoy us fans? If they don't trust us to go to our local cinema and buy a ticket for HP, then how can we continue to trust them to make our beloved books into big movies, how do we know they won't pull a stunt like this again? If anything by moving Harry Potter's date it's making Twilight seem more appealing, because there isn't going to be much competition, it's fantasy and it's being released during the holidays... They're adding fuel to their competiton, which may cause problems later on. Because what if New Moon or Eclipse or even Breaking Dawn were released alongside Harry Potter? Silly WB. Btw, I really do love Twilight, so don't think I'm bashing it. Lol, I'm sorry for ranting, but I'm so MAD.

This is gonna be the last comment I make on this news post, because I feel like at this point I am beating a dead horse. Honestly I think it is rude that you guys are gonna boycott WB films you would otherwise see. The actors, directors, and crew should not suffer from WB's greed and yet for some reason many of you think if people boycott their movies it will make a statement or a difference when it won't. It just does not seem fair to me especially considering most of the films WB is releasing this coming year are not even originally their own films but new line cinemas. I am totally upset hbp isn't coming out till july, but I will get over it and when it comes out next summer i will be first in line to see and so will most of you who are saying lets boycot first week. Actions do have consequences. Wb will regret this decesion for a couple reasons, but it will not be by the fans boycotting. First from all the letters and petitions they get they will probably have to hire some new staff members to go through them. Second to stop promotion that has already begun it will take a ton of money and not to mention than they have to refinace a new advertising campaign come summer. Third Wb will lose money from deposits they made for premiere locations and than they will need to rebook. The actions this fandom will also have consequences. IF you guys boycott this film on any day you can guarantee that there will be budget cuts made to deathly hallows which will make no one happy. I will end by saying protesting is good, but be wise in the way you chose to protest because actions do have consequences. Whether we like it or not the movie is coming out in July and everyone needs to get on with their lives. Pick up a book and read to pass the time!

The equus thing is stupid. I don't know when the Twilight movie is coming out here, but as far as I know January 9th, so that's not even a little help...:( I'm Siriusly considering not going to the HBP movie(but in the end I'll end up going anyway...)

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 17th 2008

keesli just for the record I do not work for WB I am a high school student. I am not in support of the delay of the movie but i will not deprive myself of other movies i would like to see at the of chance it sends a message. I was sooooooooooooooo mad, mad beyond belief but to suggest that because some of us say not to boycott that means we work for wb is ridiculous. At the same time I am honored that you think I could work at WB I bet I would be making a lot of money. lol. All I am basically saying is we are all entitled to our opinion, but just because some of us are against boycotting does not mean we are wb employees. I have every book and movie and have been waiting anxiously for hbp to come out.

Posted by FF_Voldemort Aug 17th 2008

OMG fox news is wrong? Its jumping to conclusions? Its unbaiased?...oh wait, nevermind. Ive calmed down about harry potter dleay, but im not happy with it

Posted by volvol Aug 17th 2008

WB probably smilling right now because this make topics and head lines.. FREE PROMO!!! only us fans crying right now.. T.T

Posted by Twilighterpotter Aug 17th 2008

TWILIGHT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO US STOP IT !!!!! I hate when harry fans bash on them !!! WB SCREWED THE POTTER FANS THAT DOESN'T MEAN WE BASH ON SUMMIT OR TWILIGHT ! SUMMIT WAS SMART AND DID WHAT WAS BEST FOR THEIR FANS ! AT LEAST THEY CARE TO MOVE UP THE MOVIE FOR THEM !!!!! AND I AM A TWILIGHT/POTTER FAN AND I WILL WATCH THE MOVIE WITH MY OTHER 11 FRIENDS (CRAZY TWILIGHTERS) SO LEAVE THAT ALONE YOU SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON WARNER BROTHERS !!!! READ THE ARTICLES TWILIGHT DIDN'T WANT TO STEP ON HARRY'S TOES THEY WANTED TO GET IT OUT TO THERE FANS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND DON'T MAKE FUN OF THEM CUZ THEY WON'T MAKE MORE MONEY IT'S THEIR FIRST MOVIE AND THEIR FAN BASE IS GROWING STILL HARRY HAS BEEN HERE A WHILE !!!!!

Posted by Kevinval_HPfan Aug 17th 2008

I'm a HARRY POTTER FAN, Narnia Fan and Twilight fan but moving the twilight release date to the HBP slot Made me even angrier.... GOSH!!!

Posted by aabb Aug 17th 2008

"WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures"; You're kidding, right? WB has also said that they care about Harry Potter fans, but they've made it clear that they see their fans as sentient wallets.

Posted by ambulance Aug 17th 2008

I WILL SHOW UP AT TWILIGHT WEARING MY HOGWARTS UNIFORM.

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

Don't forget that we have a huge advantage here... WB thinks they're dealing with a bunch of kids, we know they're dealing with an enormous crowd! What we can do is send them Howlers, I think that's the best thing to do. I will try to do so and I live in Sweden, so all you fans from USA should really do it! It's just a great idea. Here is how to do it: http://hbpnojuly.blogspot .com/ Though I don't think we'll get November 21 back since Twilight jumped in at that date, let's go for christmas instead. More people (even grown-ups...) are free during christmas holiday than mid-summer...

Posted by Xanat Aug 17th 2008

I didn't think it was possible for me to hate Twilight more, but i guess it is. I mean its not Twilights fault HBP moved, but god darn them!!!! An inferior, horribly written series (not just me...read the reviews out there) gets their movie MOVED UP, while we get screwed over cause WB already made enough money this year. This is definitely the straw the camel's back status!!! I was already upset about the move, then the worst book series ever gets its spot...ugh!!!!!

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Aug 17th 2008

I'm a wee bit sad about the HBP delay..but it's better than no film at all. It's probably to do with The Dark Knight's success..Anyway, about Twilight, I'm pretty happy it's coming out sooner. Listen guys, there's nothing we can do about HBP now! If WB changes their minds I'd be really surprised. During November there's school and homework and no time for being excited about a movie for some people. But during July it's the holidays and there's time for anything :] I'm trying to think of it all positively. I think I'm the very only one :P

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

Mostly to EtHyBoP13, but also every other person telling us we can't do anything... What we can do is to never give up, not until we've got HBP. If WB is clever enough they move it to November, December or even January but July.... That's silly and we HAVE to make them know it. Saying "There's nothing we can do, why do you care?" is of course not going to help at all. What if everyone said that? Well maybe we can't do it ON OUR OWN, that's why we have to make it HUGE!! Involve newspapers, tv and so on if we can. That way i know we CAN change this!

Does no one else think it is weird that the major Potter websites are doing NOTHING about this? Surely if Mugglenet and Leaky got involved there would be more notice taken of the fact that we are pissed off? Also, there has been no comment from Jo about it either. Well, if the people who could make a difference can't be bothered to help, then what's the point in the rest of us trying. All I'm seeing on here is people saying online petitions don't work, emails don't work, you have to send letters. Well I don't live in the US and sending mail there is expensive. So as my email efforts "aren't worth a jot" according to most of you, I shall no longer bother.
