HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take
HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take Lots of news has been circulating around the web relating to Half-Blood Prince's move to July 17th. This post will cover several stories related to the move.

First up, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first Twilight novel, has announced that the film will take Half-Blood Prince's spot on November 21st. Summit "saw a unique opportunity to slot in [their] film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months." They were also quick to say that "by no means are [they] trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008."

Second, disgruntled Potter fans are using the internet to be very vocal about the move. Facebook groups, clever YouTube videos, and online petitions (that one in particular has over 23,000 signatures) have been trying to make their mark on WB.

Next, IGN has an article online which wonders whether or not the video game will be seeing a delay. The game was set to be shipped this November at the same time as the film's release, but that is now up in the air. An EA spokesperson told IGN "We are making a great game that Harry Potter fans will really enjoy -- we are evaluating the impact of the movie date change."

Last, a bit of an absurd story comes from an article on FOX news. FOX believes the film was delayed because Warner Brothers doesn't want Dan Radcliffe's good Potter image to be tarnished with Equus. We know that this is not true, as WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures.

Hi. I was thinking abou this and the true for me is that the new Harr Potter movie is a complete disaster. The producer know that and they are change the date foy next year to have the oportunity to re edited all the movie. For me thats the begining of the end of the HP movie franchise.

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 17th 2008

porpy apparently you can't read because no where did i say do nothing. I cleary wrote that I myself have signed the petition and have sent a howler. And please explain to me how boycotting unrelated hp movies prove you love hp? It doesn't it proves you are being immature. Boyvotting movies will do basically nothing. It won't change WBS mind and I am not going to let actors, directors, producers and crew suffer because they got stuck with wb as a distributor. We can all protest by our petitions, letters, howlers, phone calls, but boycotting movies will not send the right message if any message. If movie sales are down they are going to blame the economy not a group og hp fans who are boycotting their movies. Ptitions, letters, howlers, and phone calls are a much better course of action because we can actually express our feeling and spell them out for wb.

I'm still a little happy about not what WB did, but what it did to us. I feel like the HP-fans has come closer together, we stand as one against WB if you know what i mean and that's awsome. Thank you JK Rowling for letting us know about DA, Voldemort and all the other stuff giving us this inspiration! And to every single one out there, e-mailing and sending Howlers, signing petitions et cetera... DON'T GIVE UP!! We are SO many all over the world, we'll get power from each other and the solidarity we have. However this ends up, we will go stronger out of it and we know that we share this with thousands of people all over the world. And that's what makes me happy :)

Posted by Eallin Aug 17th 2008

Well people, does anyone happen to have a list of all movies that will be released by WB until July? I will not see them on the movie theatres, i will just avoid WB until the HP movie is released...

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 17th 2008

porpy another thing about be faithful to jo's work. JO approves the final scripts so if it is not as faithful as you would like it to be you will have to complain to jo just as much. Maccii I agree with you that this has made the hp fandom closer and that is def a positive coralys this is not just directed at you but to everyone else who thinks they want to reedit it. Why can't you guys just accept that this has nothing to do with the film and more to do with making money. IF they were re editing we would know they would have come out and said it because that would have come across better than we are moving the film to july because we want money. However I would imagine now that the potter producer might consider readding scenes they originally deleted because they did now have time to edit them at the time. And honestly I hope they are using this opportunity to go back over the film with a fine tooth comb

ambulance - LMAO. I'm totally going to wear my HP merchandise when I watch Twilight too. I don't know why, but I get a joy out pissing off Twilight fangirls. And just for the record, I DO like Twilight.

htt p://hbpnojuly.blogspot.co m/ just do that at least people. If you have the attitude of "*sigh* It's not going to work, I'll just be quiet and wait for the summer," It frustrates me that there are people out there who friggin give up before they even try. Huge pet peeve. Do you not understand the power of a voice???? Especially with the massive numbers in the HP fanbase???? we CAN do something about it. You just have to boycott, complain, and annoy the hell out of WB. If millions of people were constantly sending howlers, they'd listen. Because those millions are the people they're trying to please and if all of them are boycotting... they have no other choice but to do something. But it won't work if some of you idiots just sit back and have a chicken **** attitude.

Totally disgusted by WB's decision. I'm totally convinced that the decision was motivated by money and only money. I've already signed a petition and emailed Warner Brother's explaining I'm going to boycott all Warner Bros films for the forseeable future. I think if enough people do this it will hit Warner in the only place it can hurt - the financial wallett. Along with the howler's, emails to Warner and the petitions the message may sink in eventually.

Posted by ginmo Aug 17th 2008

LOL I'm so going to wear my HP merchandise when I see Twilight as well. Don't get me wrong, I like the twilight series but the extreme fans who keep wanting to compare it to HP when really, HP isn't even on the same level, and who keep saying that twilight is sooooo original (when really you can read about 348270 stories about a vampire love) are SO annoying. And it just kinda upsets me that they would jump in on HP's spot... because it makes it look like they really are competing. But at the same time, I think it's a smart move because the twilight production people are basically saying, "Ah. WB is stupid. I'm even giving up my christmas season release to be released in November instead. Thanks WB for the better oppurtunity!"

Posted by Trelawneys_Fan Aug 17th 2008

Make sure to check out an OFFICIAL PETITION on Facebook. There's a new Facebook group called "HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE SHOULD BE RELEASED ON 11-21-08" This is one of the ways we can all cooperate and make Warner Brothers know that we are not okay with their decision. SO MAKE SURE TO JOIN THAT FACEBOOK GROUP!!!!! Here's the webpage where you'll be able to find it: http://www.facebook. com/group.php?gid=3478819 5154 Please take out the spaces! If we all join, there might be some way to make this change!

This all sucks. So much. I hope you guys give us a nice huge rant on MuggleCast to cheer us up.

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

It's really "bad" weather outside now... Cold, windy and rainy... AKA Harry Potter-ish wether... As it usually is in November but we will not get that with HBP :( It's not the same thing in the summer!

Posted by Gatorgirlie Aug 17th 2008

I don't necessarily think this comes down to money... I think it comes down to the fact that the producers and the director know the movie is a dog and they need more time to re-film and re-edit scenes. It's disappointing but here's to hoping that the money that comes out in July is better than I expect it's going to be. I must have missed a lot of talk in the last few months -- attack on the Burrow? Bellatrix on a table in the Great Hall? No flashback showing the cup and the locket? Ooohhhh boy...

Posted by hpninjaskills Aug 17th 2008

This movie better be the shiz. Period.

Posted by XxDawlishxX Aug 17th 2008

oh dear lord this is getting ridikulus! &they better not delay the game too! i was 82% done with OOTP on wii& my sister deleted the whole freeking thing& im done with all the other games so they better release it in november!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 17th 2008

Erin2m5 Boycotting the movies that a business like WB is .... well, we are not being immature. It is hitting the business where it hurt's in the pocket. Because they figure all the petitions, howlers, and comments will die down and we will all merrily go to the movie next year. So the only way to make sure they point gets across to the WB is to make sure they do not get the money now. So just realize we are going to do what we can to make sure they understand moving the movie for them to make more money off of us is not right.

Posted by alexxx Aug 17th 2008

MICHAEL PHELPS IS DEFINITELY AMAZING, HES FREAKIN SEXY TOO :]

Posted by Winky790 Aug 17th 2008

ughhh this freaking STINKS! I mean, I'm a HUGE twilight fan but a MUCH bigger Harry Potter fan This is NOT FAIR honestly we've been waiting since 2005 for this movie to come out! its not fair that they make us wait a half a year LONGER just so they make more money! I was looking at the timer and i swear I thought there was something wrong with it! NOT FAIR AT ALL

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 17th 2008

Gatorgirlie i doubt they are re filming or re editing. If they needed more time they would not have wasted money and released a teaser trailer. They would also have come straight out and said we need more time to complete this movie. Movie studios are not afraid to say that. Its been done before and it come across way better with fans than they are moving it because of money. Gatorgirlie i understand what you guys think boycotting will do, but in the end only a small fraction of people in the world are going to boycott. And like i said earlier movie sales have been steadily moving down each year so the movie studio will blame the awful economy and they won't even consider the fact it was hp fans who decided to boycott. Als o personally i don't think it is fair to affect the people who made all the movies possible. Most of the movies wb is releasing next year aren't even really wb movies, but new line cinemas. Since they closed down wb got all their movies so how is fair to those movies. Call me a bad harry potter fan if you must but I am just being realistic in saying boycotting will not send the message we intend and it will make very little difference in WBs pockets.

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 17th 2008

Well Erin2m5 if you are such a HP fan then why are you supporting the movies so much? Boycotting the movies will hit the WB where it hurts, in the pocket. You are the type that Alan Horn thinks of when he changes the date. Unfortunately, many of us are not. We are fans that have been punched in the stomach for our money. I didn't start reading the books until the fourth had been out and at least JK was up front when writing the books. She didn't say "I stopped writing so it will delay you get the book. I finished it last year and held it in a safe to make more of a profit."

Hey guys, I know this link has been posted a million times, but just in case there are people out there who thought they'd sign it but haven't yet, here's the link to the petition: http:// www.petitionspot. com/petitions/harrypotter 6 Delete the spaces!

Posted by josie1985 Aug 17th 2008

Hey I wonder what jo thinks about all this :-/

Posted by nothedwig432 Aug 17th 2008

And please, if you're going to sign it, do NOT say your name is something which is of course fake, like "Hannah Montana" or "George W. Bush" or "Eeihgih Yesiheihgieh". Also, don't sign multiple times using the same exact comment. I've seen many people do things like this, but it couldn't make the petition look more illegitimate!

Posted by Erin2m5 Aug 17th 2008

hermie1958 I started to read the books when they first came out . I am a much bigger fan than you probably imagine. I did feel like i was punched in the stomach, but moving the movie to july doesn't mean they will get more money from me. I see the movies once in imax and twice in theaters. They will get the same amount of money from me that they would have gotten if it was released in november. I am supporting other movies because I will not live my life around wb. If i want to see a movie I am going to see it regardless. And like I said there are more people involved in these films than just wb like the actors and why should they suffer because of idiot people at wb? Just because I am defending movies that have nothing to do with hp does not mean I am not a true fan. Just because I chose a different course of action against wb other than boycotting does not mean I am a bad fan. ANd the fact is Boycotting is not gonna hurt wb where you think it hurts. They have already shown they could careless about us fans which they won't give a second thought to low movie sales. And honestly even if we boycott it might take 10 thousand dollars from them which is nothing

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Aug 17th 2008

Why do people keep talking about boycotting HBP? You can say that if you want but I think when it gets to July 17th, you'll crack, you won't be able to resist :P :P

Posted by evanna11 Aug 17th 2008

They have over 29000 signatures in the petition!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Posted by ocean Aug 17th 2008

Couldn't agree with you more bEtHyBoP13. I must admit I started off saying I wouldn't see the film at the cinema but I know I'm weak. I will crack. Nothing beats watching a film on the big screen. BUT I have no problem whatsoever boycotting every other Warner movie around and that is just what I'm going to do!

WE HAD PLANNNED TO SEE IT THE NIGHT IT COMES OUT AND AGAIN OVER THANKSGIVING.( WB DID YOU THINK OF THAT BE NOT). HATE TO BE A DOWNER THEY WONT CHANGE THERE TINY LITTLE BRAINS FOR THE EVER LIVING DOLLAR THAT CAN BE MADE. MONEY MONEY MONEY

Being a huge HP and JK fan, and a mom to 4 huge HP fans, I was really upset to hear about the push back. After considering Fox's theory for awhile, and researching Equus, I can see how WB might be in a sticky place. Hear me out. If you understand what Equus is about, it's pretty dark. By pretty, I mean extremely. The content is not suitable for younger HP fans and it IS going to get a lot of press when it opens and possibly during it's run which continues until the beginning of February. If having Daniel in the play wasn't enough, the other lead character in the play is Uncle Vernon. I'm a pretty liberal, open mom with my kiddos. Many parents aren't and if Harry and Uncle Vernon are suddenly thrust into the American media spotlight for Equus, there will be parents who take issue with it. In fact, guarantee there will be. WB can't say that because they already posted in support and have no control in the timing or stopping Equus from opening. They only thing they could control was their own release date. And if they linked the two, it would only bring more attention to the darkness of Equus. After all if the WB is worried, maybe parents should be. I'm still not happy. I think the whole thing was badly planned. And I do believe much of the Equus hype will have run it's course by November. But I have heard other parents and fans say otherwise. My guess is WB heard that too. It doesn't make any of it better for us, but it is something to think about.

Posted by evanna11 Aug 17th 2008

Thatt would be SO FUNNY, going to the Twiligth movie in HP style:P (I'm a huge fan of Twilight too)

Posted by hpwiz812 Aug 17th 2008

wow....this got me even more PISSED! and i like how Twilight moves to Nov. 21but of course they "by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008." yeah...BS!!!!! stupid Twilight...and stupid WB....imma go eat now

Posted by LiteratureAddict Aug 17th 2008

OK people lets be fair. This is not Twilight's fault. They are simply taking advantage of the opening WB gave them. And frankly they'd be stupid not to. Thanksgiving is a much better date than mid December. So lets stop with the hate talk please.

Posted by jrhed Aug 17th 2008

I just received an email to a story my aunt found on Digg today. The link goes to a new website that was started this morning called Accio Dumbledore's Army. They have set up an email form that allows users to send a single email with a unified message to WB Executives, Time Warner Execs and media outlets. It took about ten seconds to complete. It's a little harder to ignore thousands of email. http://pottersorder.b logspot.com/2008/08/harry -potter-november-release- email.html Everyone go do this, every little bit helps and if we don't try we will never know.

Posted by ginmo Aug 17th 2008

dragonflydiva- this has nothing to do with Equus. It doesn't matter when the play is released. It can be released in february and psycho over-protective parents would still link it to Harry Potter and not let their kids see the HP films anymore. Equus already played in London has been shown in tons of magazines, so the parents already know that Daniel Radcliffe gets naked and that it's dark. Stupid people are already not letting their kids watch HP. So this has nothing to do with the timing of Equus in the states. Everyone, even people who aren't HP fans, already know that Equus is the play that has that naked Harry Potter kid. What this is about, is greed. That's all it is. It simply is greed. People are going to try and find other reasons to justify this decision so they can have some faith in WB, but nope. It's greed. We're talking about the movie industry here. And to all of you people who think we should just stop because it's just a movie... THIS ISN'T ABOUT HAVING PATIENCE FOR A MOVIE RELEASE! It's about fighting these horrible, greedy, selfish, WB people! We're the ones who give them a job and pay their bills, and they're taking advantage of it. They don't even know for sure if the movie will make more money in the summer or not. So they post-pone it anyway to maybe try and squeeze the money out of us as much as possible.. trying to squeeze out every dime they can get. Again, greedy. I can't say that word enough. And even if they do make more money, it'll only be a few million. That may sound like a lot to us but when we're talking multi-millions, a few makes no difference. That's like trying to get 3 more dollars when you just made 100. They're pigs and they're using the HP series to do it, and THAT'S what we're fighting against.

Posted by ginmo Aug 17th 2008

bEtHyBoP13- we're not boycotting the films, we're boycotting future WB films until the movie is released. And.. when the movie is released... most people will only see it once instead of 54360 times.

Posted by Dejajeva Aug 17th 2008

You can't blame Twilight for taking a bigger weekend now that it's open- they want to make money too, and it's a better time for twilight to come out. Anyone in their right mind would have made the same decision, but you can't girl about Twilight because the WB made this decision, not SUmmit. SUmmit is just capatalizing on it. I'm just as sick as anyone else about HP being pushed back, but it's not Twilights fault.

Posted by gandalfxj9 Aug 17th 2008

The move was made to take advantage of an open weekend in Hollywood's busy summer season, said Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer. The film had been on schedule, and the change was not due to any production snags, he said. "THE PICTURE IS COMPLETELY, ABSOLUTLY, 100 PERCENT, ON TIME. THERE WERE NO DELAYS," HORN TOLD THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, I'VE SEEN THE MOVIE. IT IS FABULOUS. WE WOULD HAVE BEEN PERECTLY ABLE TO HAVE IT OUT IN NOVEMBER." http://www. ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew s/story/CTVNews/20080816/ harry_potter_080816/20080 816?hub=Entertainment

Is Fox news ever right? P.S. F*** WB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by padfoot95 Aug 17th 2008

It was a punch in the stomach to me when I found out they were moving HBP. I am happy that it will be a summer movie, but I liked the fact that it was coming out in the same month as my birthday, AND now Potter fans have to wait what will seem like an ETERNITY for the new HP flick!!!! WHY?!?!

Posted by Hermioneisme Aug 17th 2008

Well it's just unfair everything WB is doing to us, but boycotting would only bring shame to Harry Potter. I like the idea of going with HP merchanize for the Twilight movie but yet, it's not their fault, it is WBs, so, it would be rude for the movie itself, and you'd be giving more money to WB and they wouldn't care as long as you gave te money. Anyways, it seems not too polite, people should respect JK Rowling's creation and not replace it for some new boom-books out there. Also, we waited more time after all.

Posted by padfoot95 Aug 17th 2008

This is such a punch in the stomach. We'll have to wait another ETERNITY!

Haha, do you really think WB is the ONLY movie company to want to make more money? Wow, come on people. The actors worked hard, and just because WB messed with the release date doesn't make it any less of an amazing movie. You know you wanna see it. You know you're gonna see it. Yeah, people suck, but Harry doesn't. But hey, if there won't be any screaming hormonal teenagers in the theater I will be very happy to finally be able to watch Harry without any WOOOS and AWWWS and OMG HE'S SO HOTS what with all the hooking up happening. ;)

Posted by dragonflydiva Aug 17th 2008

ginmo 3... we will have to agree to disagree. I believe the general US population may have heard bits and peices of news about Equus in London, but weren't affected because it wasn't happening here. When it happens here, it will mean more. Again, I don't think the hype will even last until November. Movie studios are about profit... however.... when was the last time you heard one specifically say directly that it was about profit. That subject is usually taboo in public conversation. Why now? I am more inclined to believe that a "great muggle rebellion" is the icing they were looking for. If everyone is fighting with WB, Equus can open, get a little publicity, close and by July everyone will be ready for HBP. It's brilliant from a PR standpoint.
