HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take
HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take Lots of news has been circulating around the web relating to Half-Blood Prince's move to July 17th. This post will cover several stories related to the move.

First up, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first Twilight novel, has announced that the film will take Half-Blood Prince's spot on November 21st. Summit "saw a unique opportunity to slot in [their] film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months." They were also quick to say that "by no means are [they] trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008."

Second, disgruntled Potter fans are using the internet to be very vocal about the move. Facebook groups, clever YouTube videos, and online petitions (that one in particular has over 23,000 signatures) have been trying to make their mark on WB.

Next, IGN has an article online which wonders whether or not the video game will be seeing a delay. The game was set to be shipped this November at the same time as the film's release, but that is now up in the air. An EA spokesperson told IGN "We are making a great game that Harry Potter fans will really enjoy -- we are evaluating the impact of the movie date change."

Last, a bit of an absurd story comes from an article on FOX news. FOX believes the film was delayed because Warner Brothers doesn't want Dan Radcliffe's good Potter image to be tarnished with Equus. We know that this is not true, as WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures.

I filled out the form, jrhead. Accio Dumbledore's Army was a great idea!

Posted by hpfanatic112794 Aug 17th 2008

Now that Twilight has moved to hbps spot there is no way that hbp can move back to november

Posted by MagicsintheMusic Aug 17th 2008

1) Twilight really jumped the gun on moving the date! WB thinks its the same audience, but Harry Potter is more universal, and Twilight is aimed at teenage girls. I just really started getting into those books, but they will NEVER overshadow my love and obsession for Harry. 2) People are being SO harsh with Dan and 'Equus.' They're saying that he can never stop being Harry, but then when he puts himself in this daring and brilliant roles, they criticize him. Hypocrites. Theater is an art, people!

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 17th 2008

Erin let's just say we will just disagree.. Give your money to WB I could care less. about you . I will make a stand and stay true to my decisions. As porpy says calm down. Have a nice life and watch what you want. But notice I am not the only one saying boycotting. And I am going to do it. Because I have watched businesses suffer when fans take a stand and work together.

Yes you guys. We have been VERY loyal Harry Potter fans supporting everything they do but what you guys are saying is just as ridiculous as this decision. Just because WB pushed it back to make more money you're going to see it once and your not going to buy the dvds?? That is just stupid. That means 0 to WB. Yes Harry Potter fans should be mad about this decision but you can't blame them, they're just trying to make more money. This has nothing to with The Dark Knight's success. The weekend that it's releasing will have nothing to do with it's success. The only way they are making more money out of this is because of the summer season, period. And they WILL make more money because of that, guaranteed. This decision was bull especially considering how close release was but look at the positive repercussions. The Harry Potter game might possibly have some polish on it. Maybe the Wii version will receive some Wii MotionPlus treatment. Maybe we'll see some better marketing because of the delay. Who knows, we'll just have to wait. This is a bad thing but there COULD be some good things to come out of this.

Posted by anakinjmt Aug 17th 2008

I'm a Fox News fan, but I was surprised at their take on the move. I think they got the facts wrong on this one. Still, much better than CNN and NBC News.

Posted by DramaQueen0526 Aug 17th 2008

Freaking WB. That sucks! Why did they have to do that for? It doesn;t make me feel any better that Twilight jumps to take its place.

Posted by JamesNorrington Aug 17th 2008

LAWL AT FOX NEWS. xDD And screw WB in general. D:

Posted by tonks_394 Aug 17th 2008

Okay guys, it's high time every one calmed down. WB is a buisness and the main goal of buisness is to make money. What did you expect. And as for saying things are "unfair" what do you mean? This is WB's decision not yours. You don't own the Harry Potter movies. Give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's. Which means, if you want the product you have to listen to the distributer. Pay for the movie because, like it or not, they deserve the money. And why freak out about one movie anyways? Think, does the quality of your life really depend on if you see this movie? Would you still eat, sleep, think, listen to music, hang with your friends, go to work, and live your life with out this movie? Yes! Life goes on. And instead of focusing all your energy on changing the release date of a movie, why don't you harness it to make a real difference in the world? There are animals being abused, people starving, hate crimes against gays, and all you do is fume about HBP? Guys, it's over, nothing will change their minds. Move on.

I would much rather wait just 3 weeks longer for Twilight than EIGHT EFF-ing (owls hehe) MONTHS for HBP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAHh!!!!! I HATE YOU TWILIGHT!!!! GO AWAY AND LEAVE HARRY POTTER ALONE!!!!!!!!

Posted by thelexirumor Aug 18th 2008

http://www.new.fa cebook.com/group.php?gid= 23519089579 New facebook group planning to stage real live protests in front of any theaters playing WB movies world wide. Groups are forming for different locations. We even have t - shirts and all. Just two days ago, some of the people who I saw fired up and ready to take action, saying that they would not let WB get away with this, are already giving up. This is exactly what WB had expected you to do. Of course they knew they would get backlash for their decision, but they knew given a few months you would stop caring. It hasn't even been a week. Even if we can do nothing to change the date, I feel we have the right to let WB know how unbelievebly rude, ungrateful, and inconsiderate they've been to the very same people who made them rich. With Beedle And The Bard being released, this was supposed to have been a really good end - of - the - year for us fans. But they took it away because they want more money to add to the billions of dollars they already have. Harry Potter has been a big part of my life for many years. I will not take this in silence.

Posted by choco_holik27 Aug 18th 2008

I honestly didn't think I could dislike Twilight anymore than I already do. I thought wrong.

Posted by ecnu Aug 18th 2008

Disgraceful. Disgusting. Dishonourable. How DARE they move the opening date on the basis of money?! They obviously do NOT care about their fans, otherwise they would not enrage us so. And as for the idiots behind that insufferable drivel known as "Twilight"...well, those bastards. No matter what they say, no matter how much they make claims to the contrary, they are attempting to replace Harry Potter. Why else would they fill the slot left by HBP?? Twilight is the worst and most overrated book I have ever read, I hope the fans hate the film and that it is a smouldering disaster, crashing at the box office.

Posted by Hermioneisme Aug 18th 2008

tonks_394: Just because they want to earn money doesn't make it less unfair. I don't really care what they do about the movie, the books are better, and after all this years I have lost expectations about the movies, but yet, I can show what I think about this. Yeah, all that is happening in the world while we eat, while we sleep and while we are writing this coments, while we live. Hope you do something to the world also, thinking that is not enough, everyone knows that is happening and does everyone does something? No, so I think that's a really bad argument to use here, two complete diferent things you should just go around and see people's stupid protests because of what people said about their way of dress, or the music they like, something that will not matter qhen they are 44 years old. That's where you should put that setence.

Posted by dobbysbasilisk Aug 18th 2008

AAARGH!! I was just getting used to the idea of Harry coming out next summer, I thought it might be quite a good idea after all, as seen as maybe then it would be a bit closer to DH and it gives a chance to the people who haven't read the books to keep up and remember what happens and wotnot. But Twilight jumping into their place? AARGH! Honestly, they didn't wait long did they? A few days and they have jumped onto the idea that everyone thinks Harry is coming out in November and maybe they can get more publicity than what they got now. How do people expect Harry Potter fans and Twilight fans not to go to "war" or whatever it is they do when the Twilight people keep doing things like that? They are constantly comparing it to Harry Potter and trying to get the idea into peoples head that it is even better than Harry Potter! They are a bunch of fudge arses and shhh stirrers. Twilight will NEVER EVER EVER be as good as Harry Potter they may as well put all the copies of their shitty film through the shredder. It is a waste of space and I hope its a flop.

Posted by xxlightningboltxx Aug 18th 2008

Get over it with Twilight already. Don't hate on them because they're smart. I don't even understand how you CAN compare HP with Twilight. Is this just because they both belong in the fantasy genre? I hope not because that would be a very stupid observation.

Posted by RedJewelDragon Aug 18th 2008

It upsets me too, but there's nothing we can do about it at this point. They've already made their decision, so we'll just have to wait until next summer I guess. I'm going to keep myself busy with the third Eragon book in the meantime, try to be patient. And when the play was only in England that wasn't a problem; BUT now that it is moving beyond England's border's to the United States and Broadway is a problem. England and Europe really don't care about nude plays, but most unfortunetly, the United States does not share that same view. I'm sure that WB still does support Daniel, but are too scared to test new waters in the US.

Posted by RedJewelDragon Aug 18th 2008

tonks-394 Thank you! I totally agree with you! Everyone's life is not going to come to an end because the movie is not coming out this year. Everything in your life is going to be the same, and things in life happen that we don't like. We just have to deal with them, that's the way life is, it isn't always fair. And sending hate letters to WB and protesting isn't going to solve anything. And you all may be angry now, but when next July comes you're going to see the movie anyway, because if you're a die hard Harry Potter fan you will.

Posted by Feathery_Golden_Snidget Aug 18th 2008

Lol, that rumor being spread by Fox news is ridiculous. I can't stant Fox, it's rarely better than tabloid journalism, with it's twisted viewpoints, misleading headlines, and obvious lack of post-highschool writing levels (have you tried to read any of their articles? There's nearly always a gramatical error.) It's SO like them to spread more rumors. And about the potter fans lashing out at WB? GO US! We have made SO much noise about this that warner brothers has realized what a stupid thing they did, keeping it quiet and then dumping it on us suddenly like that. Keep signing those petitions, my fellow fans!!

"Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody." Henry Wordsworth Longfellow

Posted by ginmo Aug 18th 2008

you people who say "We can't do anything" still really psst me off. I've said this soo many times in comments, and I'll say it again. It's not about having to wait a year. If they were to say "We need to push back the date so we can make it really nice and polish it up." then I wouldn't have a problem with the release date. But it's the fact that they're doing it because of greed. They're USING the HP series and trying to squeeze our all they can from us to put in their pockets. How much more would they MAYBE make? A few more million? That's nothing when you're talking multi-millions. And they probably won't even make more money. That's a gamble. I am just extremely disappointed in some of you HP fans who aren't driven enough to put up a fight and use your voice. Especially for you Americans out there. America was built on the voice. Our country lives off of people protesting and boycotting and sending 456074393 letters and it WORKS. You all are just undriven cowards that REALLY irritate the hell outta me. Take a history and governement class and PAY ATTENTION and you'll learn how power the voice is. You can at least TRY people. Nothing is set in stone. Just try to at elast scare the crap otuta WB. That's all we're asking for.

Posted by dont_look_down Aug 18th 2008

Twilight cant touch HP. Not now, not ever. And to say otherwise is underestimating hp and overestimating twilight.... with that said, i think youve gotta admit that summit made a smart move by changing twilight's release date. Its like theyre showing WB a lesson of how to treat your fans, and as much as i dislike twilight, i realise that they kinda did the right thing. If anything, i guess theyre doing hp fans a favour by helping to pi$$ off WB and make them regret their decision. And that quote by Henry Longfellow is soo applicable here, lets wake up WB!

Posted by JaMeSPoTtEr000 Aug 18th 2008

Ok well thats a little better but im still greatly pissed and hope the people at WB are stomped to death by a mob of angry harry potter fans.

Posted by nkk_kiara Aug 18th 2008

I really dont think they are making US FANS feel better by moving Twilight earlier. They shouldnt of done it, the filming is done, the release dates were promised and published everywhere. It was PERFECT until they had to go and change it later. That really dissapoints me I really feel like breaking into tears, People have been waiting and now it was only supposed to be a 3 month wait. NOW ITS 11 MONTHS! Thanks a lot WB. Your the best=(

Posted by xxlightningboltxx Aug 18th 2008

I totally agree, dont_look_down. I just dont understand why people are having a go at Twilight and Summit Ent. They're smart. Move On. I was really lookin' forward to HBP though, I planned November all around 12 Nov...sucks major =[.

Posted by mundung Aug 18th 2008

Go to all the Harry Potter boards and look at what everyone says-looks like 100% mad, maybe 70% talking about petitions, boycotting (which I agree with) and maybe 10% saying get over it. The rest say they are going anyway. So if you take 70% of all Potter fans and sign petitions, boycott WB either all movies by them or HBP, (especially merchandise) in particular we can be a voice-will it change anything? I don't know but it doesn't hurt to try I, for one, am not going to be a sheep and say "ok whatever WB says" think of what Harry Potter would do-he was never one to sit idly by. Be a voice let yourself be heard

Posted by tonks_394 Aug 18th 2008

I didn't say it was fair. But unfair things happen. If you let every unfair thing in life get to you life is going to suck. If you decide to dwell on this constantly, your constantly going to be angry and disappointed. Wouldn't it be easier on your state of mind to just let it go? I'm not saying to be a sheep. You don't have to believe the lies WB spouts at you, but you don't have to let it affect you either.

You can really help animals while getting free stuff, so check it out! : ) Oh! And go Harry Potter!!!! : )

Posted by RedJewelDragon Aug 18th 2008

tonks-394 That's completly true. And as Elanor Roosevelt said "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." I'm bummed about the change too, but I'm going to let it get me down in the dust! Hopefully they won't make such a drastic change in the future again! How long have you been on this board? I just started yesterday.

THEY WILL IGNORE THE INTERNET PETITIONS, BUT THEY CANNOT IGNORE THOUSANDS OF ANGRY FAN LETTERS IN THEIR OFFICE. ITS KINDA LIKE THE FIRST HARRY POTTER MOVIE WITH THE OWL LETTER IN NUMBER 4 PRIVET DRIVE =D WE CANNOT BE IGNORED!! PASS IT ALONG! THE ADDRESS IS ON THE WEBSITE htt p://hbpnojuly.blogspot.co m/ (REMOVE THE SPACES!!!)

Posted by GatorMommy Aug 18th 2008

I don't think that the link between the delay and Radcliffe on Broadway in "Equus" is "absurd" at all. Living in the conservative south, I whole-heartedly believe that the anti-Potter crowd would have a field day with the movie opening and running while the star of the movies is simultaneously appearing in a play about mixed religious views, nudity, sexual activity, and even animal mutilation. WB can deny it, but that doesn't mean that behind closed board room doors the topic wasn't brought up. WB would not want to psst off the religious right so close to Christmas ... and showing a movie that the moral majority sees as diabolical while their star is playing the lead in "Equus" would be seen as an attempt to convert their Christian Children. I've dealt with the goobs too much... and will believe there is a link unless WB move the movie back to a November/December opening date.

Posted by Twilighterpotter Aug 18th 2008

STOP IT ABOUT TWILIGHT CAN'T TOUCH HARRY PEOPLE THEIR FANBASE IS HUGE AND HAS GROWN IN 3 YEARS DON'T BELITTLE THEM !!!! TWILIGHT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING DON'T HATE !!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU WEAR YOUR HP SHIRT TO A CRAZY FANBASE OF GIRLS AT THEIR MOVIE !!!!!!

Posted by Rose37 Aug 19th 2008

To all of you who gets, or buys the Daily Herald newspaper(or if this article is in another newspaper, than those people as well): On the back of the front page states an article in titled Harry on the cover, but not in theaters, and while I was reading the whole article, I didn't notice anything in there about fans, NOT ONE!!! SO THIS PROVES THAT ALL OF THE COMPANYS INCLUDED IN THE MAKING OF THE HP FILMS AND INCLUDED IN THE CONFLICED OVER THE MOVING BACK OF THE HP#6 FILM DOESN'T, DOESN'T, DOESN'T CARE FOR THEIR FANS!!! Case closed!!!!

Posted by bhollyradcliffe Aug 19th 2008

i cant not even believe that some of u are going to give up on protesting to warner bros. if you don't even try then we will never be able to see it in nov. you are right, online petitions and you tube videos won't work on getting warner bros. to release harry potter in nov. but there are other ways to protest that might work. you just have to try, do u think its going to be easy. go to this website: hbpnojuly.blogspot.com/ it is a great idea and similar starategies worked on bringing back tv shows, it can work for us. write several letters, and tell other people to do it. please don't give up, don't sit around doing nothing and end up being one of the people that made it impossible to see it in nov. because you couldn't send out a few letters.

Posted by Rose37 Aug 19th 2008

What is the point anymore bhollyradcliffe??? Frist off twilight had moved and will mostlikely stay on hp old release date. Secondly, hp is now over, even if believe in that fact or you don't!!! Twilight will be the next big thing in the english area!!!

Links aren't good anymore, but FOX is keeping WB from releasing the Watchmen movie. This stinks for Watchmen fans, but at least it's a setback for our "favorite" movie studio.

Posted by bhollyradcliffe Aug 19th 2008

well rose37 there is a point, can't harry potter and twilight be released on the same day? if they changed the date for harry potter, they can certainly do it for twilight. all u are doing is proving my point. u r just giving up, if every one does that then harry potter won't come out in july.

Posted by miss_marauder Aug 19th 2008

I think it's good that Half Blood Prince has been put back. That way they can work on making it better. I mean, come on, it had come in December and been totally crap (or as crap as a HP movie could be which is never really crap) then everyone would be complaining, but it will better when it comes out in July, because they can do some editing (which I think was the real reason it was put back, because they watched and it wasn't up to the amazing HP standard.) As for Twilight, I LOVE IT. I've only started reading the books, and they will NEVER take the place of my all time favourite series Harry Potter, but they are pretty good. Edward Cullen is so SEXY!!

Posted by miss_marauder Aug 19th 2008

Apologises for grammar and spelling mistakes in my previous comment, i'm in class and not supposed 2 b online, hense i'm a little distracted.

Posted by Rose37 Aug 19th 2008

I HAVE GIVEN UP ON HP!!! Also to miss_marauder like many have said, wb isn't planning on working on the sixth hp movie. The movie will just collected dust for next 11months. NO WORK IS GOING TO BE ADDED OR TAKEN AWAY FROM THE SIXTH HP MOVIE!!!

Posted by miss_marauder Aug 19th 2008

hello, do you work at the WB? If not then you have no idea what your talking about, so shut up.

Posted by LadyLilyMalfoy Aug 20th 2008

PERSONALLY, I THINK HP FANS WORLD WIDE SHOULD BOYCOTT CINEMAS ON NOVEMBER 21ST AND HOLD DEMONSTRATIONS BY THE TWILIGHT QUES. Ugh!!! I HATE twilight!!! I knew something like this would happen! I mean, my friends are really into the books so I thought I'd go along to the movie just to be open minded but now they haven't got a hope in hell. I HOPE THE LOSE MILLIONS OF PUNDS AND THE REVIEWS ARE TERRIBLE!!!! SCREW TWILIGHT AND LONG LIVE HP!!!!!

Posted by Rose37 Aug 20th 2008

No I don't work for wb, but the fact of the company not working anymore on hp movie six has been posted on the internet and in the newspapers. Also you can count on me seeing twilight, for I know in my opinion, the twilight is as great as hp and that is that!!!
