HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take
HBP mix: Twilight moves, Fans react, game delay, Fox's take Lots of news has been circulating around the web relating to Half-Blood Prince's move to July 17th. This post will cover several stories related to the move.

First up, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first Twilight novel, has announced that the film will take Half-Blood Prince's spot on November 21st. Summit "saw a unique opportunity to slot in [their] film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months." They were also quick to say that "by no means are [they] trying to fill the shoes of the incredible POTTER franchise for 2008."

Second, disgruntled Potter fans are using the internet to be very vocal about the move. Facebook groups, clever YouTube videos, and online petitions (that one in particular has over 23,000 signatures) have been trying to make their mark on WB.

Next, IGN has an article online which wonders whether or not the video game will be seeing a delay. The game was set to be shipped this November at the same time as the film's release, but that is now up in the air. An EA spokesperson told IGN "We are making a great game that Harry Potter fans will really enjoy -- we are evaluating the impact of the movie date change."

Last, a bit of an absurd story comes from an article on FOX news. FOX believes the film was delayed because Warner Brothers doesn't want Dan Radcliffe's good Potter image to be tarnished with Equus. We know that this is not true, as WB has been openly supportive of Dan's stage play ventures.

Just a nit-picky point of fact... Lots of Fox News haters out there. But, if you clicked on the link and actually read the article, you would have seen that it was written by one of the Hollywood Gossip columnists and appears in Fox's Entertainment section. If you think that Hollywood Gossip is the same as Hard News, I suppose you can criticize this opinion columnist (and not Fox News) if you want. But if you understand the difference between Entertainment News and real News, than you know that Fox's Hard News is presented extremely fair and balanced. Very off-topic of course...but after reading the misleading MuggleNet posting and then reading several of the more uninformed comments, I couldn't help but comment. And, MuggleNet, for the record, an Opinion Columnist (a notoriously kooky one, at that...just google "Roger Friedman" ) writing a Hollywood Gossip column that appears on the Fox News website under its Entertainment section does not mean that "Fox believes....". :-)

Actually, correctly, as of now, the online petition (that you linked) has 40,000+ signatures and is still getting more! lol

kasbrina - Actually, Twilight fans have been saying some rude things about the HP movies, books, and to it's fans.

I really don't think people should criticise Twilight for taking HP's spot. It

darn, that's annoying. Let's try this again: I really don't think people should criticise Twilight for taking HP's spot. It's a great book, with interesting (and very hot) characters. Although I will always treasure Harry Potter as my all time favourite series, Twilight isn't half bad, so why don't you just all retract your claws a bit.

Hey guys! I am a HUGE HP fan, but I also Love Twilight. I think this war between HP and Twilight fans is so dumb. it is embarrassing the things "fans" from both sides are doing and saying online! What's going on??? Both book series are so amazing and good! You can't compare the two, its not possible. They are too different, yet they both have helped so many children to read. I'm glad Twilight movie got moved up, but so MAD I have to wait a year to see Harry and Ginny kiss! I've waited for that for ever ( yes I'm a romantic at heart)(maybe that's why I like Twilight) I don't like that we have to wait for HBP and I would like to kick the idiot that made that decision!!! but that wasn't Stephenie Meyer, or Twilight Movie or any of the Twilight fans. Even though I love Twilight, I also know that it doesn't matter when Twilight movie opens, it will never make as much as HP and you know what? that's oK... non of that money is going to me, so who cares. Both HP and Twilight fans are intelligent people that shouldn't allow the media to drag them into this "BOOK WAR" don't you guys realize we are being used! I wont mention names, but this week alone, one online media outlet had over 3000 in less than 2 hours thanks to HP and Twilight fans fighting. That's tons of money in their pockets! I say HP and Twilight fans can agree to disagree, I say we can learn to co-exist. We don't have to be "in love" with each other, but PLEASE! Lets band together and not allow the media to use us like that! It makes me so angry to know that they are probably reading all our angry posts and laughing.... thinking of ways to fuel the "BOOK WAR" so they can write more articles and get more hits on their sites and get more $$ at our expense. Come on HP and Twilight brothers and sisters!!! We are all smart people don't allow these Media places use us to make big money... We are smarter than that!!!!

Thanks for the letter Alan Horn. You still have not given fans what they want, the film released this November. I do not care that it is released so close to the 7th movie, which by this experience is likely to move to a better weekend for YOU!!!! I stand by my earlier statement I will skip the theater and stay home to reread the 6th book. I wouldn't want to add to your pocketbook for this July release. Ridiculous!!!

I will not be going to any WB movies in the theaters in 2008 or 2009 if the delay goes through, I will wait a little longer and watch what I want on DVD (normally I would see it in the theater AND buy the DVD). I am writing to the theater companies to let them know. Normally I am against Pirated Movies, but if WB keeps the delay I think they deserve to be pirated. I do not think WB cares about the fans so I am fighting profit with profit. In addition to avoiding the WB movies will also avoid any WB TV shows I would normally watch during the delay. I am contacting Big companies that advertise on WB's TV channels to let them know how upset I am with WB and by association any company that supports them. Do they really want me to look somewhere else first in this economy? This is the list I have so far: Toyota Honda Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep Lexus Lincoln Mercury Hyundai General Motors AT&T Expedia Pfizer / Benadryl Totino's / Pillsbury Safeway Kohl's

I will boycott a July 09 release of "The Half Blood Prince" if they do not change their minds, but that will not get it released sooner. WB does not care about the fans so I am am going after their profits and not just the Harry Potter ones. If they make me wait for Harry Potter then I will also wait for every other WB movie. I will start by skipping any WB movies in the theaters in 2008 and 2009. I will just wait a little longer and watch what I want on DVD (normally I would see it in the theater AND if I like it also buy the DVD). I am writing to the theater companies to let them know. For movies where I would usually wait and just buy the DVD, I might just use the $1 rental machine. Normally I am against Pirated Movies, but if WB keeps the delay I think they deserve to be pirated. Moves we now will not be seeing in a Theater include: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D Get Smart In addition to avoiding the WB movies there will be no WB video games in any Christmas Stockings. Finally we will avoid any WB TV shows I would normally watch during the delay. I am contacting Big companies that advertise on WB's TV channels to let them know how upset I am with WB and by association any company that supports them. Do they really want me to look somewhere else first in this economy? Maybe WB will listen to them. This is the list I have so far: Toyota Honda Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep Lexus Lincoln Mercury Hyundai General Motors Wells Fargo AT&T Circuit City Expedia Pfizer / Benadryl Totino's / Pillsbury Safeway Kohl's "Lime Away" WB will make money whenever a H.P. movie is released. I can wait, but am upset that I have too just so WB might make a couple more bucks.
