HBP push back decision spawned "3 to 4 weeks ago"
HBP push back decision spawned In an article reporting on how Entertainment Weekly posted their fall preview with Half-Blood Prince, The Canadian Press spoke with Dan Feldman, who is Head of Distribution at Warner Brothers. Feldman reveals the timeline of the decision:

The studio had been mulling the date change for three or four weeks, "but it really didn't kind of get on the front-burner until sometime within the last seven days," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, said Sunday.

Entertainment Weekly's "deadline must have been earlier than the decision, than when we started to get serious about making the decision," Fellman said.

WB's press release, revealing that Half-Blood Prince will be opening on July 17th, 2009, can be read right here.

someone is in a bad mood today. which isnt surprising considering what WB did. and i like the word shutup becuz it states that you dont like what someone else is saying and i like to speak the truth. (from my point of view, of course)

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

I usually don't hate people or companies or things like that but let's just say that what I feel for WB isn't exactly love... It makes me soooo angry, don't they realize how wrong it is to let the trailer say "November" when they discussing July?!!? They are SO stupid and impolite and rude and silly and... Yeah I think you get the point... And finally, I would like to tell those WB-people what the mirror told Harry.... "You're fighting a losing battle there, dear."

Posted by hpintwense06 Aug 17th 2008

Blah. This whole thing is stupid.

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 17th 2008

If you want to get your point across, it might be better to stop liking and using the word shut up. And it's two words, not one. C: And I'm in no bad mood (one of the most cliche'd comebacks you can think of, BTW). I'd just rather not have idiots try to act better than me on a website talking about a fictional book. (butistillloveyoumugglene t) Gah, and where is Mugglecast? :C First the movie, and now this. I wanna hear Andrew laugh!

Posted by unwillingmuggle Aug 17th 2008

I have a couple of possible release dates for if (hopefully) they decide to put the film back within November/December: Novem ber 26th- since Bolt has moved to the 21st and there are only a few small films there and wednesday releases usually get more money. December 5th- There are only two small releases there.

Posted by Hermowninny Aug 17th 2008

WB's already in a hole...I'd suggest they stop digging. And seriously guys, don't get mad at others for trying to do something--it's better than doing nothing at all.

THE CHEEKY BASTARDS!

Posted by hermione93 Aug 17th 2008

dont yall think that if WB sees a red envelope they will just throw it away. why dont yall make the outside look very professional, then they will have to take the time to open them all!!!!!!!!!! and has anyone called WB yet? what have they sad???

Posted by trueligth Aug 17th 2008

I understand know this is official, but I hope they change their mind. Sometimes this is more about the money and not sabout the fans, my only hope is they change their mind one more time. But in the other hand, HP 6 and the two part of HP 7 they are going to be close enough; so is not going to be alot waiting.

Posted by ccunni Aug 17th 2008

dont give up we can try!!!! although that is a good point just write on red paper and make it official on the outside. Posted by pottertwilight0627 Aug 17th 2008

Also, (like gregorama21) I went to see Star Wars: Clone Wars and it still says November.

Posted by festy1986 Aug 17th 2008

really time for you guys to use judgement calls with reporting news, if you stop feeding the HBP publicty line, maybe WB would learn its lesson. We all know when the movie is coming out, and were all still seeing it, hopefully some of us learned a lesson and will only see it once. WB took a shot at you now you have to take one back, dont just go handing them your money.

Posted by FF_Voldemort Aug 17th 2008

i dont care when they decided it, they said november we want november

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

Have you seen this? http://la timesblogs.latimes.com/he rocom plex/2008/08/harry-potter -fa.html More attention to this is perfect! And don't give up, it has only been a couple of days yet. Keep on fighting!

Posted by hpninjaskills Aug 17th 2008

Whatever. There`s no point of me complaining anymore. It is what it is, and I`m going to have to live with it. Exactly 11 more months, people....

Posted by wontongirl Aug 17th 2008

a LITTLE disorganized! wat idiots, why`d they get people sooo excited for it and get everyybodys hopes up, how completely stupid. they should figure out the dates when they are going to release it and stick to it! I was going to throw a b-day party and now what? Twilight? give me a break, a vamp romance story catches absolutely no interest to me. they already have a series called mooonlight on tv about vamps that i gaurantee is sooo much cooler, steph meyer obviously sorta copied it. [maximum ride should be getting all the fame right now not twilight!] They`ll make just as much money doing it in November as they would in the summer I gaurantee it! wb idiots suck

Remember New Line Cinema! Remember when New Line and Peter Jackson were in court over money due from LOTR and New Line said Jackson would not have a role in making the Hobbit and never work with New Line again? Well, LOTR fans (many of whom are probably HP fans) had a fit, pro-Jackson action was taken and guess what? Peter Jackson is producing the Hobbit and the New Line execs are out of the company they started. So fan action can have an impact. Keep up the petitions and start organizing a boycott. Start taking about a specific target. The Watchmen gets my vote. Also, everyone should contact JKR. DR, EW and RG and demand their support.

Posted by Snapealicious Aug 17th 2008

Has anyone considered the fact that Warner Bros. anticipated that we would be OUTRAGED by their actions, and are using us? Maybe we are part of a big PR campaign. Warner's pushes back the date, we respond in kind, then Warner's makes a big show in response to our flood of indignation ("We love our fans") by restoring the release date, or at least releasing it in December (holiday markets are a big money-maker as well) , and in doing so has drummed up a lot of publicity. Harry Potter fans celebrate our "success" over Warner's by making HBP an absolute blowout opening weekend for them. I wonder if this is all part of a big publicity plan, and we are playing right into it. Hmmm... just a thought.

Posted by CROOKSHANKS99 Aug 17th 2008

lets not tire us fans apart. and this news artically doesnt make me/us feel any better

Posted by Maccii Aug 17th 2008

Snapealicious: That thought has crossed my mind as well, but I don't think that's how it is. WB needs a "big" movie the summer of 2009, or at least they think they need it.... Well they won't have it anyway.

Posted by ailexq Aug 17th 2008

I don't really expect to get through to any of the people ranting here much, but I wanted to throw this out here: Guys, look. It's not just about Warner's greed and wanting to make more money off HBP. That would be completely illogical, given how epically huge this series has become. Any Harry Potter film is going to make huge wads of money no matter when it's released. The real reason behind the release date change is numbers, which affect the long term money Warner makes, which then affects what they can budget for future films. I'm not saying this to take their side, but I just think people need to understand what they're ranting about first. Dark Knight made too much money, and they basically don't have anything lined up for next year to compare to the money they've already made this (fiscal) year. If HBP remained in its original release slot, they'd then have even HIGHER numbers for this fiscal year. Which would be great, except that when next year rolls around and their numbers are vastly lower than this year's, it's going to affect their stock shares. Which, long-term, affects their income, far moreso than any difference in actual box office numbers for this one film. Make sense? Now, what you do with that info is up to you. I'm frustrated too, but please just understand this is what media corporations do. It's just really a huge deal because they decided to mess with the Harry Potter franchise. IMO, they should have thought of this much earlier and rescheduled Batman for next year instead ;) Also, maybe think about the fact that record labels do this all the time. It's unfair and craptastic, but if you want a film (or a record), that's made with a HUUUUUUGE budget and is consequently gorgeous and great, then it has to go through the corporate machine. Sorry.

WHERE IS MUGGLECAST?????????!!!!!! !!!!!???????? IM DYING TO HEAR WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS!!!!

Posted by tiassa Aug 17th 2008

Happy Birthday Micah!

Posted by gregorama Aug 17th 2008

I think the return of the ORIGINAL cinematic Harry Potter is also slated for next year... TROLL! (and no, the 80's original wasn't half bad)

Posted by chommy Aug 17th 2008

I'm miss American Dreams, since I was 17.

Posted by Angieb303 Aug 17th 2008

All I know is even if the Howlers and the signatures don't change anything, they need to know how we feel. They need to know it's not okay. We need to boycott the opening night. Go to www.cafepress.com/Wizards Stand and show your support. We will show them who's boss, but we still get to see the movie.

Posted by Poloz_fury8 Aug 17th 2008

Atleast one tabloid we can rely on to get our voices heard on this stupid matter is The LA Times!!....Thanks for helping the HP fandom!.... ccunni i know what you mean!.......Where in the heck is mugglecast!?????????..... ..They HAVE notting to say on this matter because there afraid that the WB won't be giving them any free tickets to the premiere and after party goodies and what not?.....Since emerson has his ltttle wb alliance and all?,,,,,,sorry but i consider them sell-outs if they don't help our cause against the WB's evil plans!....Not even pottercast has anything to say!....WOW!

Posted by xtakemeawayx Aug 17th 2008

Nice...they've known for a month. Brilliant...

Posted by bethinoz Aug 17th 2008

Harry Potter is being delayed because Horn may not get his bonus next year if does not come up with a way to increase revenue for 2009. He does not care if Harry Potter makes more money this year or next. Sorry if I hurt anyone

i cant read mugglenet. it's all blue, purple, white, and black.it's hard to read everyone's posts

Posted by harmonymakesmesick Aug 17th 2008

Whoever had the idea to change the date, I hate you. I don't care if you're a really nice person in some ways, you are an idiot and I hate you. You have ruined my already trashed past few days. I'm sick and angry and I could sneez my guts out all over you, so I hope you reconcider. Aside from that, i think they'll get less money because of this. I know several people who are boycotting HBP now, and some people are boycotting ALL WB movies. So if they loose money from there big "get more money" plan, they'd better not try to apologize to us!

Posted by BellaBlack7 Aug 17th 2008

You know, I think we do have a chance at changing WB's mind. They definitely won't put it back to Nov. 21st, but they might move it to December or January. Sending peanuts into a network to protest the cancellation of Jericho worked, so the Howler thing has got a shot. Even if they just throw them away, they can't ignore the fact that thousands of red envelopes are flooding their mailroom.

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 17th 2008

I agree with someone that posted earlier.. If they were thinking of it why release the trailer. This doesn't make me feel any better. Yes, we need to speak our minds on this.Whether it changes the stupid money hungry WB moguls at least we will speak our minds and the ones that won't boycott the movies.... at least they won't get my money.

Posted by ohxgosh_itsxwhitnea Aug 17th 2008

Ughhhh. Where's MuggleCast?

Posted by hermione93 Aug 17th 2008

i dont think they will release it in november or december or january but i think they might release it march, april, or may.

Posted by halfbloodprincess16 Aug 17th 2008

YOU SUCK, WB!! Seriously, they claim to love their fans so much yet they don't seem to have a problem with just sitting by and ignoring us as we freak out and plan boycotts and sign petitions! I mean don't they realize how angry everyone is? They really need to say something or do something before it gets out of hand. Okay, so your writers went on strike and now you have no summer blockbuster? oh well, it's not our problem that you all treated the writers like crap! But they should have realized this months ago, not 3 or 4 weeks ago! This issue should have considered like while the writers strike was still on, not now! Ugh, WB is so incredibly selfish and stupid!

Almost anything is better than freaking July 09.
