HBP push back decision spawned "3 to 4 weeks ago"
HBP push back decision spawned In an article reporting on how Entertainment Weekly posted their fall preview with Half-Blood Prince, The Canadian Press spoke with Dan Feldman, who is Head of Distribution at Warner Brothers. Feldman reveals the timeline of the decision:

The studio had been mulling the date change for three or four weeks, "but it really didn't kind of get on the front-burner until sometime within the last seven days," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, said Sunday.

Entertainment Weekly's "deadline must have been earlier than the decision, than when we started to get serious about making the decision," Fellman said.

WB's press release, revealing that Half-Blood Prince will be opening on July 17th, 2009, can be read right here.

*stalks Andrew's Twitter* Tweet, Andrew, tweet!

Posted by tor Aug 17th 2008

yeah LunaLovegood123, link seems to be wrong or something...help...

Posted by BellaBlack7 Aug 17th 2008

That link just takes you to a story about how the movie is delayed til July 09. It's all 100% true.

Posted by porpy Aug 17th 2008

Tor! Dude! or Dudette! Conflicted you may be - but seriously, Love rules the roost in Harry Potterdom! Boycott the time warner WB. You'll feel better about yourself. I do. I'll read the books again. Always friggin' comforting. But seriously don't allow the death eaters to lure you back to seeing the movie. First of all the book is better - but second they only want money and MONEY = POWER = VODEMORT! Learn from the books. But if you go - I won't hate you dude. But try to be strong! We can win with love and unity.

Posted by aPotter321 Aug 17th 2008

Hey Guys. Listen, unless its a movie you really want to see, try not to buy/go to any WB movies. I do have a feeling however that the Twilight studio paid WB for the spot and WB decicded to move the movie. However they decide to move it really far ahead. Then after this thing gets free publicity I think they will move the movie to Decemeber and everyone will praise them again and go watch the movies like 4 times. Just what I think happens. If I am wrong however, and this truly does stick we must unite as a fandom and boycott the movie on opening weekend. We still get our movie and WB gets taught a lesson.

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 17th 2008

Luna Lovegood :C You liar.

Posted by sascha Aug 17th 2008

go see wb movies, go see hbp, just don't go on opening weekend! that way you won't loose anything, and the studios will see that they can't just change release dates to make more money.

Posted by CatQ18 Aug 17th 2008

Holy Crap!!!!!! What is your problem????? We all know that it may not work to boycott or petition or send hate mail or whatever else people may be doing but that's not the point!!!!!! Harry Potter is obviously something that a lot of us care about and WB needs to know that they can't just get away with this!!!!!!!! I seriously don't care if nothing I do makes a difference.....but at least I know I tried....where is mugglecast????????????

Posted by cksgal42 Aug 17th 2008

Seriously, it's sad to see people on this site badmouthing each other. We're all HP fans, we all want it moved back up to November, we don't have to be snooty about it to each other! If you're mad, write WB a letter or email, don't say something nasty about another poster. And I'm not singling anyone out on this. I've read these posts and there's al ot of name calling.

Posted by keesli Aug 17th 2008

Just another friendly reminder to not trust anyone on here who tries to tell you NOT to boycott and that petitions won't work... or that we need to just get over it and accept the date change and not hold WB responsible. In this day and age part of maintaining a company's image lies in planting people in the online communities, telling people just such things to stop the tide of negative feelings/press for WB. Fight the power.

Posted by tor Aug 17th 2008

porpy, thanks dude. or dudette. I like your m=p=v philosophy! And the books are better. And LunaLovegood123...what AnnaSmee said!

Posted by rooon Aug 17th 2008

Don't even say it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! : ( : ( : ( : ( BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Posted by cksgal42 Aug 17th 2008

The big difference between a petition for something like Jericho and Star Trek, and our petitions is that there is a difference between television and movies. It's much easier to speak with our money for a movie than it is a TV show. As long as a TV show is on the air there will be at least some money for the advertizers, but fans don't pay for it directly. There is no TV show on this planet that I would pay $8.50 an episode to see, but I do that with a movie. If I boycott a movie it is direct money that they are losing, not advertizing. It's much easier to see the difference, especially if all the HP fans do something like sticking to their word and not going opening weekend. OotP made around $78,000,000 it's opening weekend in the United States alone. WB is expecting at least that much. What do you think they'll do if they realize that their big summer blockbuster, the movie that was supposed to save their behinds during a slow summer, only starts off with, say, $40 mil in sales? About what Twister or The Perfect Storm made? That would be devastating to them. Imagine the looks on their faces if HBP only pulled in $175 mil total instead of about $295 mil! WE have the power here because WE decide when we pull out our wallets and plunk down our money to go see a flick. What we choose to do with that power is going to directly effect the way that the execs at WB view HP fans. Go and give HBP a smash opening weekend that's one for the record books? You've reinforced the idea that they can do whatever they want to us, and we'll complain and stamp our feet for a while, but in the end be good little cattle and do what they want us to do. Make HP a flop opening weekend, put it behind the X-Men movie or something like that, and they'll realize that messing with an entire fan base isn't going to do what they think, and they'll be more considerate of the HP fans' feelings next time they think of making a move that will upset us. It's our call, not theirs.

Posted by porpy Aug 17th 2008

Tor - I'm a dude. And yeah! The books ARE better!

Posted by tor Aug 17th 2008

I like the idea of boycotting all WB movies UP UNTIL hp6, as well as skipping opening weekend.

Posted by ghbrat Aug 17th 2008

no unfortunately you guys will lose out....maybe I shouldnt have even posted on here...you guys nitpick on everything they do...heck I am surprised that you guys can agree on anything... all I did was say what I honestly thought and you guys are yelling at me... WB will not lose we will if you guys honestly keep this up....not everyone is going to sign that petition...and I honestly dont think come next July when Harry Potter 6 does come out...that you guys will say oh yeah lets boycott that movie...because in between now and then they will show the theatrical trailer...and you guys will get all excited over it all over again just like you guys did with the teaser trailer a week ago...sorry if I am offending anyone...I understand you all being angry and such but come on its happened WB isnt going to change their mind and move on...

Posted by jacobs06 Aug 17th 2008

Are people really going to have a grudge for that long until the movie is released? And if your really a hardcore harry potter fan to do that, then theres no doubt that there will also be an equal urge to go see the movie immediately when it does come out. So when your causal Hp friends and family go see, you'll be holding up that petition sign all alone in front of the theater...feel better?

Posted by ghbrat Aug 17th 2008

I dont hold grudges...I WILL see it opening weekend and I dont care what they think either...but if they can possibly make them change...heavy on the possibly... lol I will love it even more...I am a big HP fan and will see it no matter if it comes out in November...not likely or July of next year...but then again I loved EVERY HP movie too and not all fans have lol...I enjoy the books for what they are and the movies for what they are...

Posted by tor Aug 17th 2008

Porpy- thanks for the counseling! I'm off to begin the series again!

Posted by porpy Aug 17th 2008

ghbrat - no! Don't be so negative about how people perceive you! It's alright Dude! Don't worry! You're thinking that everyone's against you - but it is not true Dude! We all need to hear from everyone! You know this site is huge! So no biggie! I see your point. Don't give up man. We all are here together. Remember - it's love that saves us all. Besides, there are other forums dude. Don't let your voice not be heard. Peace out, Porpy

Posted by hermie1958 Aug 17th 2008

It isn't a grudge. And yes, I will not see the movie next summer in the theater. Ghbrat...not sure who yelled at you. But yes, I will boycott all WB movies. But that is for me and my family. You and yours can go and enjoy the movie next year.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 17th 2008

It would be freakin awesome if WB listened to our petitions, emails, and howlers but I think we all know that it will be very hard to change the $$$hole's mind. It makes me feel better to do whatever I can to make them HEAR us!!!!!! But I'm now in a numb acceptance of the date change and I just won't be happy till about 11 months from now. Until then WB is getting NO MONEY from me! By the way has Mugglecast #157 been pushed to next year too?!?!? haha just kidding!

Posted by nosta82 Aug 17th 2008

How to get WB, Harry Potter fans unite. Boycott opening weekend of HBP, we still get to see the movie, but watch WB sweat because opening weekend numbers suck. Im come on, waiting 3 days isnt that long we do know how the story goes.

Posted by porpy Aug 17th 2008

hermir1958 now you be nice now. Don't be nasty. Peace out, Porpy

Posted by Wizardofmath Aug 17th 2008

I am not boycotting the movie. I signed the petition, wrote several letters off to Warner, and have dwelt on it long enough, and I don't think it's important in the scheme of things. I mean, as long Deathly Hallows comes out on time... It's either wait for HBP now or wait for DH. We would have had a two year wait somewhere anyway...although I do think it stupid of them to release a trailer and a bunch of other stuff and then change the date. It was inconsiderate....Now I am still not happy because things didn't go like I thought, but this is life. Things happen we don't like. I do hold some hope (quite naively) that they may change the date to being sooner... I think they could spin this to be a publicity stunt and make a killing..haha. Oh, and I hope they keep giving us pictures... maybe a couple a month instead of a bunch later..haha.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 17th 2008

Wizardofmath-I'm with ya buddy, I'm hoping they will reconsider the July 2009 date and maybe make it sooner then that. But we've all gotta do whatever makes us feel better about this $$$$ed up situation. Don't ever lose hope gang:)

Posted by honeydukes0209 Aug 17th 2008

WHeere is MuggleCAST??

Posted by RedJewelDragon Aug 17th 2008

Hello. I'm new to this board. I know, the news that we have to wait until July 17, 2009 to see the HBP is horrible! However, it is not Warner Brothers fault the release date was changed. Daniel's play, is the main reason for the last minute change. Warner Brothers didn't want all of the negitivity from the play to fall onto Harry Potter, so they changed the release date.

Posted by honeydukes0209 Aug 17th 2008

*sigh* Nevermind...MC's not coming out until tmrw afternoon. You can check MC's twitter if you want. :/

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 17th 2008

OH MY GOD. Come on Mugglecast! I was waiting all night for this! Thanks a lot. Last weekly episode and you're doing this crap.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 17th 2008

RedJewelDragon-I think WB explained it pretty plainly (it's about the money) and the play already ran last year without effecting OOTP's box office numbers. So even though the play was going to be running the same time as HBP there's been no indication from WB that Dan's play is a problem with them. They stated the exact opposite last year and said they fully supported Dan's decision. So please don't blame Equus, this was WB's decision and it came straight from Alan Horn's mouth.

Posted by Lupinpatronus Aug 17th 2008

Seeing as everyone's putting in their two cents, I suppose I will as well. I have to say I'm more in agreement with the posters here who say that petitions, hate mail, phone calls, etc. will not have any affect on this situation. And swearing off all WB products and films will certainly not work; if you haven't noticed, Time Warner (which owns Warner Bros.) has a substantial monopoly. Do you use AOL for your Internet? Do you watch the CW, Cartoon Network, or HBO? Do you read DC Comics? Gone to any films by New Line Cinema? Those are just some of the various subsidiaries that WB has a hand in. And I find it hard to believe that all of you will not be going to see this movie when it's released. Yes, there's obvious reason to be angry. Believe me, I find WB's way of going about this to be very badly executed (this was clearly not thought out three or four weeks prior to all of this). But "Twilight" moving in on Potter's turf essentially sealed the deal. Why don't you all go help the HP Alliance instead? That's world-changing stuff that could use all of your vigor!

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 18th 2008

I'm swearing off the CW, I don't have cable so no Cartoonnetworks, or HBO, don't read comics other than Archie comics, don't have AOL, don't like New Line Cinema, or have one where I live.

Posted by guyperson Aug 18th 2008

Mugglecast pulled a WB :[

Posted by Lupinpatronus Aug 18th 2008

AnnaSmee, that wasn't quite my point. What I was trying to say is that WB has many companies that you probably sponsor without even knowing it. So swearing off of it entirely just isn't practical (and, by the by, New Line Cinema is a production company, not a theater. They did "Lord of the Rings", "The Golden Compass", and MANY other films). And I forgot to mention in my last e-mail, as another plug for the HP Alliance, that they educate on the topic of corporate companies taking advantage of their customers, and others around the world. Like I said, I'd highly recommend all of you try and help THEM. If all of you showed as much interest in that as you do this, there could be astonishing change! Just saying...

Posted by expectogirl Aug 18th 2008

Yup, I rarely watch TV and don't have any of those channels, don't use AOL, and I have no problem in finding out and boycotting all WB releases, products, etc. But I do agree that the valiant effort should be put into HPAlliance and worthy causes too-but I can do both:)

Posted by keesli Aug 18th 2008

You have to be willing to fight for change. Sheep conform. I do not wish to be a sheep. I will rage against the dying of the light.

Posted by RedJewelDragon Aug 18th 2008

It's fishy to me they would change it at such late notice when they've never done it before? WB makes plenty of money off HP any time of the year. And they've never made a BIG change like this before, so why now? And Equus never played in the US on Broadway last year, only in England. And the US has very different views on that kind of stuff than England and Europe do. WB was just too afriad for the tie-in. It's on FoxNews.com.

Posted by porpy Aug 18th 2008

All of you - have you learned nothing from the HP books? Love wins all! Why do you all hate? We can win against WB because they do not love! They only want power! Learn to leave. Learn not to see but to READ! We are all lovers! We are all friends. If you go see the film, I will not hate you. It's ok. you are not voldemort. But if you don't see the film- I will love you to no end!!!. - Porpy

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 18th 2008

Yeah, I was thinking of something else about New Line Cinema. *facepalm*

Posted by expectogirl Aug 18th 2008

Porpy you are soooo right. Everyone is hearing different news and different rumors, etc and the bottom line is we're all in this together. No hate, just opinons. But we all agree this sucks:( And I think we have to accept that we all are dealing with this in different ways, all because we LOVE HP!

Posted by gryffindor_2004 Aug 18th 2008

I really hope they realize that we hate them! It's quite comical how they thought this would help them...they have no idea what FANS, ACTUAL FANS, are capable of. Boycotting all movies from WB...it's gonna hurt them! We should do what fans did for the Star Trek movie where Spock dies...we will see the movie, but only ONCE, not drag any non-Harry Potter fans with us, and not buy any merchandise. Merchandise is responsible for A LOT of their income. So, maybe you could "mull over" that idea, WB. Not that much money...too bad. I am soooooo disappointed in them...this was my favorite book. I was planning on seeing it so many times...they really hurt themselves. And they don't even realize it yet, poo....

Posted by trisana42 Aug 18th 2008

Do y'all not remember that the WB changed the release date for OotP too? It wasn't as drastic, but still, the same thing happening. All we can really do is wait and protest.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 18th 2008

Yeah I remember OOTP moving it's release date and I would have no issue with moving HBP a few days or weeks (earlier would be better but I could deal with a few days later) but the thought of almost a YEAR to wait is beyond my comprehension right now-I'm numb with disappointment and anger:( Yeah-wait and protest that's all we can do.

Posted by thelexirumor Aug 18th 2008

http://www.new.fa cebook.com/group.php?gid= 23519089579 New facebook group planning to stage real live protests in front of any theaters playing WB movies world wide. Groups are forming for different locations. We even have t - shirts and all. Just two days ago, some of the people who I saw fired up and ready to take action, saying that they would not let WB get away with this, are already giving up. This is exactly what WB had expected you to do. Of course they knew they would get backlash for their decision, but they knew given a few months you would stop caring. It hasn't even been a week. Even if we can do nothing to change the date, I feel we have the right to let WB know how unbelievebly rude, ungrateful, and inconsiderate they've been to the very same people who made them rich. With Beedle And The Bard being released, this was supposed to have been a really good end - of - the - year for us fans. But they took it away because they want more money to add to the billions of dollars they already have. Harry Potter has been a big part of my life for many years. I will not take this in silence.

Posted by expectogirl Aug 18th 2008

I feel like as time goes by and we get closer to next July I will become more excited to see HBP, but I doubt my anger at WB will EVER go away! And everyday till the release I will not forget the disappointment I'm feeling right now. Yup, WB is banking on us calming down but I know I won't calm down till I'm sitting in the theater watching HBP.

Posted by SiriusFan Aug 18th 2008

SPAWN?! THATS A PERFECT WORD FOR IT! THE DECISION IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN!!

Posted by Juliee_Malfoy Aug 18th 2008

This really sucks. I guess there is no hope of them changing it back to November. even if we get millions of people to sign the petition. I am still very pissed but there is no way to convince Warner Brothers.

Posted by ekspresis Aug 18th 2008

aaarrrrgggg I'm not even a hardcore fan but I feel really bad. this is like a spit in the face
