HBP push back decision spawned "3 to 4 weeks ago"
HBP push back decision spawned In an article reporting on how Entertainment Weekly posted their fall preview with Half-Blood Prince, The Canadian Press spoke with Dan Feldman, who is Head of Distribution at Warner Brothers. Feldman reveals the timeline of the decision:

The studio had been mulling the date change for three or four weeks, "but it really didn't kind of get on the front-burner until sometime within the last seven days," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, said Sunday.

Entertainment Weekly's "deadline must have been earlier than the decision, than when we started to get serious about making the decision," Fellman said.

WB's press release, revealing that Half-Blood Prince will be opening on July 17th, 2009, can be read right here.

Don't say there is nothing we can do, because we can! People has done it before so why not us?

Posted by Sally Aug 18th 2008

THERE IS A NEW WEBSITE WITH ALL THE HBP DELAY'S WEBSITES http://ddsarmy. blogspot.com/ PASS IT ON!! "If Harry Potter can make millions of dollars, it can make a million of petitions" COPY AND PASTE IT EVERYWHERE!

Posted by kazzie Aug 18th 2008

The timing of the decision is the worst part of this whole mess- they should have made this decision way before now and definately before they released the trailer. I really have to wonder and the decision making process at WB at this point in time. If they had decided earlier on I think fans would be more accommodating, now that we had the trailer the anticipation was already at a high for them to drop this bomb on us. Bad move WB.

Posted by gof4321 Aug 18th 2008

i think that they changed the date because the 19 july's almost the same date that batman was realesed and they saw that batman did a lot of money that day and so they think that hp6 will make as much as batman did in the box office

Posted by Poloz_fury8 Aug 18th 2008

The Wb won't b seeing any money from me or my friends cause we swore that were gonna sneak in!....And whoever is saying to just give up and petitioning/emails/boycot ts won't work thats not the truth cause the company does send out people to come on websites like these and post that kind of crap!.....DON'T GIVE IN!!!!!!!.....Harry would fight this thing to the end!....yes the WB/ministry of magic think they can hush us up by controling everyone but THEY would be notting without are hard earned money!......Save all your money guys do not support the WB!...if you do your practiculy giving your money to people who will just by a new porche or yacht!... And for MUGGLECAST i consider them sell-outs!...there afraid they won't be getting free tickets to the premiere and goodies from the WB if they get them mad!....A true harry potter fan would FIGHT for what is right!...And support our cause against the WB's stupid greedy decison!...Who knows maybe there imperiused or something!....or there afraid the Wb will kidnap there familys and torture them or something!....You guys know how the ministry in DH controled basically all the wizarding media like the pro potter campaign by the quibbler!...thats exactly whats happening with mugglecast,pottercast,... and even JK Rowling!....shes afraid of the backlash she will get from choosing a side!....WE NEED TO FIGHT THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!......And i'm sick of the whol twilight stealing HBP spot!...obviously ANOTHER clever move from the wb which probably said....."hey the fans are really pissed off, lets tell summit films to put twilight to the date HBP was supposed to be in, so the fans will give up and stop bothering the hell out of us" I'm 100% sure they did that!.....well i dun give a darn!...They could tell twilight to move back where it was or release HBP christmas day or somthing!

Posted by furtivelook Aug 18th 2008

Tropic Thunder won the weeked. Way to not see that WB film. I think we can take this further and we could start going to non-WB films to help with the protest.

Posted by furtivelook Aug 18th 2008

This is not Twilights fault. Stephenie Meyer saw the anger at the release and summit played it's advantage knowing that there are a lot of fans of Harry Potter who also love Twilight. And don't fall for this won't work. It will work and if it doesn't will we be worse for ware? No! We will have stood up for something we believe in and that's what matters.

Posted by MagicMaker222 Aug 18th 2008

This is just my opinion but I think WB had the push back planned for awhile. Us just now getting a teaser trailer lines up better with a July-09 release. I still can't believe that WB is doing this. Looks like Twilight capitalized on the chance of a November release. Smart move if you ask me.

Posted by Maccii Aug 18th 2008

I don't think they have planned this too long and I don't think they have thought enough about the consequences. Does anyone know wich HP-movie was the best for WB? I mean if it's one of those in November giving them most money, or July or what?

Funny HBP "delay" trailers at YouTube: http://www.yo utube.com/watch?v=VTY10kF 4HhY http://www.youtub e.com/watch?v=8eXkTTAzOQs

Posted by sevviesnapples Aug 18th 2008

this is bull... they were scheming to move the date for that long? it's like base treachery.

Posted by wimbledonsweetie Aug 18th 2008

the movie is mostly finished, i think.. it's not so much what's wrong with harry potter 6, it's that because of the writer's strike, the summer 2009 movie season, which is the most lucrative and rakes in the most money, is set to be a dud because companies will not be able to get their movies out by then.. personally, i think the move was a good business strategy but not one that left warner brothers in the favor of the fans.

Posted by Uzuri Aug 18th 2008

DO I see people being willing to give up GOING to see this to show that they're unhappy? No? Well, WB has your number then. To get what you want, you must often make sacrifices.

Posted by AliciaJonae05 Aug 18th 2008

Umm.. LunaLovegood123: you need to read the WHOLE article! B/c it's still scheculed for July, not Nov anymore

Posted by HPluv11 Aug 18th 2008

i realy dont see why we should care how long it took for them to make the decision!! they still made it and they still suck!!!!!!

Posted by yertletheturtleq Aug 18th 2008

This is just to try & cover up a big mistake WB made. I'm still pissed & I still won't go see WB movies...only the next 3 HP movies...that's it. I still hope it will get leaked onto the internet...you never know.

Posted by Maccii Aug 18th 2008

Only a thought... Maybe they has began to realize now? If we keep on everything we do they might put ut in December-April something instead of July... 'Cause they feel it was a bad idea...

Posted by HPbrownLove1 Aug 18th 2008

this is ridiculous. its great that by postponing this the 6th and 7th will have a shorter waiting time between, but i was looking so forward to FINALLY getting to see NEW harry potter stuff! after the 7th book came out, the movies are literally all ive been looking forward to and now its coming out in july. its really really frustrating.

Posted by BellaBlack7 Aug 18th 2008

You know, I don't even necessarily think that it's a good thing that there is only a four month wait time between HBP and DH1. Half of the fun is the anticipation and building excitement... the photo leaks, the trailers, the interviews with the cast/directors, magazine spreads previewing it... I mean, obviously if you stretch out that wait time to TWO EFFING YEARS between movies it stops being fun, but I think four months is too short of a time. I bet they'll push back DH1 and DH2. Screw Warner Brothers. At this point, I'm just sick of waiting.

Posted by the_shrieking_snack Aug 18th 2008

Dear WB, i hate you. a lot. -Sincerely, one of 30,000. P:s DARN YOUR COMPANY TO THE DEPTHS OF FLAMING HECK!!!!

Posted by jmoores Aug 18th 2008

I believe we can make the most impact by flooding the executives with email AND telling them that we are going to boycott. I have 10 grandchildren, and I will buy anything Harry Potter or Warner Brothers until the HBP comes out. I'm imposing my own 9 months boycott!!!

Posted by lu_2 Aug 18th 2008

yeah! jmoores... lets bother them with emails and more emails!! im writing now.... boycott all WB movies and boycott dark night DVD!!!

Posted by Janey Aug 18th 2008

WTF? They were mulling this over three to four weeks ago? Why the hell did they release the teaser trailer so early, then, if they knew the movie would be delayed?!?

Posted by HP301 Aug 18th 2008

WB really screwed it up this time. You know, I was planing to buy the video game, action figures and stuff when the movie comes out. But now I'm SO not gonna. And actually, I'm not gonna see any of your other movies right now. WB, you suck bigtime. No one messess with the HP fandom!

Posted by witchy_poo Aug 18th 2008

i have just sign dumbledores army form to send a howler to WB and i feel great now here's the link http://pottersorder.blogs pot.com/2008/08/harry-pot ter-november-release-emai l.html

Posted by Rose37 Aug 18th 2008

Wait a min here, I just say The Dark Knight yesterday with my family and I just realized that this would be my second time seeing the movie. That means that wb has $25 from my family within those two times!!! O, shhh!!!

When the trailer came out they had already known? I hate them so much. Everyday I hate them more. I want to send them an e-mail. Does anyone know where to send it?

Posted by Hermioneisme Aug 18th 2008

I just don't get why they releazed the trailer. Actually the trailer went out late, maybe they just felt the pressure and they had to send something out, if they decided other diferent thing than this. But...and now? It's getting a mess. But well yes it's just for the money. And guys just leave it, this is not a battle between the Order and Voldemort, yeah sure, you may try but it won't be worth it, like I said before, they don't care about us, the money is better.

Posted by witchy_poo Aug 18th 2008

send a howler here hpfan http://pottersorder.blogs pot.com/2008/08/harry-pot ter-november-release-emai l.html it will go to WB

Posted by AnnaSmee Aug 18th 2008

Where. Is. Mugglecast?

Posted by Rose37 Aug 18th 2008

Hermioneisme stated this in her last comment (I just don't get why they releazed the trailer.) and I would like to state that it was because of our comment on mugglenet.com that drove the wb to release the treailer. We had show anger for not having seen the hp6 trailer and now as the saying goes, BE CAREFUL ON WHAT YOU WISH FOR, IT MAY COME TRUE, but to add to that famous say, YOU CAN NEVER HAVE THE GOOD(news)WITH OUT THE BAD(news). Release the movie trailer was want we had wanted, but inturn we also recieved the bad news of having to wait 11 more months, until be able to view the movie, itself!!!

Posted by ginmo Aug 18th 2008

Dude you people are so frickin STUPID. SAYING SOMETHING CAN WORK! And I'm especially disapointed in you Americans who are saying that. THAT'S WHAT OUR COUNTRY IS BASED OFF OF. You people are just giving up and letting the bad guys get away with what they're doing. Even if it doesn't work, the point is, we'll scare the crap outta WB because they'll know that they've pissed off millions of their fans. If nobody says anything, they'll keep pulling this crap in the future. You don't think that thousands and thousands and thousands of people speaking up won't have an effect? Again... Americans, you need to pay attention in history and government classes if you think this. WE are the people they're trying to get the money from. WE'RE the ones who ultimately employ them. We have more power than you think, and if they see 467043890636736306724 howlers in the mail, they'll either a) get a bit uncomfortable and nervous or b) do something about it. They're messing with the wrong fanbase, and this isn't about having patience for a release date, it's about fighting the greed. They're taking advantage of the HP name, trying to squeeze out as much money as they can. It's SICK. And I'm really disappointed in you people who are trying to get others to just sit back like a coward without a fight.

Posted by thequibbler101 Aug 18th 2008

I just really WANT MUGGLECAST

Posted by witchy_poo Aug 18th 2008

well said ginmo i agree with most you said :)

Posted by Madam_Marshs_Biggest_Fan Aug 18th 2008

OMG that makes it so much worse. the fact they only really thought about it a week and just made the decision on the spot. wb are serious retards

Posted by Hermioneisme Aug 18th 2008

ginmo: Not everyone here is American. Well yes all you say is true, I mean we are many people, they may get scaried but I doubt they will listen, because they are already rich and they won't get scaried with thosuents of people sending them little mails! How many pettitions have been made? it's just like the government! They NEVER listen and we are more and more. Of course, sometimes, in history, people have made revolutions, but do you think this is what? A WAR? Who are you fighting? People without a face? Over the internet? With pettions? It won't make a diference in the world. Go on! Try it. I'm out. I know what they wan't, I know how greedy they are, but life goes on and the world hasn't come to an end yet. I won't get mad at WB, and I'm not dispointed with them, they jsut want to make money like everyone in the world. So the only way I'm mad at them is that they placed Twilight, a not very good book, in HBP's place. They should respect it. MAYBE you should say that to them in your little mails, MAYBE that's what I'm going to do, but trying to change again is so out of question, I mean they won't do it. Face it.

Posted by witchy_poo Aug 18th 2008

i think anything is worth a try

Posted by Eritheia Aug 18th 2008

I agree that it can't hurt to make our voices heard. We are WB's customers when we go to see their movies, and as customers we can complain about their (money-hungry) business decision. Emotional pleas to WB and petitions may not make them change their minds about HBP's release date, but I'm all for sending WB a WARNING SIGN, by NOT seeing HBP during opening weekend -- just in case they're thinking of pulling the same stunt with DH. Oh, and incidentally, I'm not watching any WB movies until then either. Their decision was all about MONEY, and since that's the language they speak, I'm going to speak it right back to them. I alone won't make a dent, but many together will.

Posted by Poloz_fury8 Aug 18th 2008

The world has gone down the toilet with all these greedy people destroying the econemy, terrorists, world disasters!...And an unending slew of BAD news i doubt the world we live in will last very long Hermioneisme....it's the depressing but thats the truth!.....We need to stand up and fight this thing!....There not in control of our money we are and we have the power to stand against them cause without our money they stand to lose everything!.............. ......"If it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge." William Shakespeare

Posted by cksgal42 Aug 18th 2008

BellaBlack: If they move this one and it's a success, there's a good chance they'll move the first DH movie to the "lucrative summer season" as well.

Posted by Scooby Aug 18th 2008

*sighs* Boo WB! I'm still really disappointed about this. Because of dissertation and my Final Year at Uni I was really looking forward to HBP. It is only a movie though and I'm not getting massively angry about it, I got over it about a day ago. The Facebook group, "Harry Potter being moved back has ruined my life", is massively over the top and quite silly. But, I think a lot of people on this site have it right when they make the argument that this is about corporate influence and the money factor. It's unfair that people can just take these decisions. I don't think we'll be the only ones who'll be annoyed however. Id say that most of the ones who worked on the film were just told about this a couple of weeks ago too.

Posted by Maccii Aug 18th 2008

I totally agree with ginmo, I'm from Sweden but I'll send them howlers anyway. What's up with all this? Those who has the power are greedy and doesn't care about anything else than money, and those who CAN change it if they try is giving up way to easily. There's just no point if everyone is like that. I honestly love every single one out there who is not giving up.

Posted by ginmo Aug 18th 2008

Hermioneisme- I'm not saying everyone here is american. I was addressing the Americans separately because they're kinda going against what this country is even based off of. And secondly.... have you not seen how influencial the internet actually is? It's more popular than the television. Plus, we're not fighting just over the net, it's actuall letters as well. You don't think they'd notice 430674306740363076348 red letters over flowing their mailbox??? Even fi it doesn't change anything, at least we can say we TRIED. And we can throw it back in their faces when they say "we care about our fans" because by them not doing anything to our active response, they don't give a darn about the fans.
