Wrock for Darfur!
Wrock for Darfur! Wrock for Darfur – an all-day Harry Potter-themed festival organized to raise awareness about the genocide in Darfur – will be held from noon to 9 PM this Saturday at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie. This wonderful collaboration by a small group of teenagers will feature a massive wizard rock concert, vendors, food, games, and even an elaborate Horcrux Hunt!

And the best part is, all proceeds will go directly into purchasing school supplies for Darfuri refugees as well as civilian protection in Darfur. Read more at the link below!

Two of the Wrock for Darfur organizers spoke during the HP Alliance’s most recent Potterwatch podcast episode, which you can download on iTunes or listen to directly. The festival was also covered in the latest Straight from the Dinah Saur’s Mouth column on Wizrocklopedia.

These absolutely amazing girls (who are part of a STAND and Harry Potter Alliance chapter) have been working around the clock all year to make the event successful; please check out this article for more information and consider attending!

Posted by bekabee Aug 20th 2008

You know what, Go us. Harry Potter Fans are so awesome. This is probably the coolest thing I've ever heard of. We should have a ton of them all over the country. There's millions of us, man. We could really make a difference. I so freakin proud of this whole fandom.

Posted by bekabee Aug 20th 2008

scratch that --- we should have them all over the world! :)

Posted by christier Aug 20th 2008

Bekabee, one thing I didn't put in the news bulletin - this event is being coordinated partially as a Harry Potter Alliance triwizard house party, so check out the HPA page and click on the link at the top of the screen to find out more about how you can organize one yourself or find one in your area! Most are not as elaborate and involved as this, but each is trying to make a difference :)

Posted by felixfelicis888 Aug 20th 2008

lol poughkeepsie. I live right by there. it's like 75 miles north of NYC. I guess I'll go.

Posted by chommy Aug 20th 2008

I would never go there. Waste of time, in my opinion, although it IS a nice cause. I hate Wizard Rock. It's so ... bad.

Posted by cheeringcharm Aug 20th 2008

COOL! I live right across the river from there, only about 15 minutes. I grew up in Poughkeepsie. I am so excited to have something HP related right here in my town.

Posted by Blueshadow Aug 20th 2008

I live just a state below, but it's still I pretty far. If I could drive though I would definitely go. But I think it's great that the HPA is doing this.

Posted by Rose37 Aug 20th 2008

I agree with what you said, chommy and to add to your comment, I also live to far to be part of this event. There would be no-way that I could make the event, I have a birthday party to go to that day!!! Sorry!!!

Posted by potterfreak0515 Aug 20th 2008

If I lived less than 13.5 hours away, I'd go! Advice: Put the state in the news post.

Posted by alexxx Aug 20th 2008

Posted by LunaDuckie Aug 20th 2008
