Behind the scenes photo of Dumbledore - with glasses!
Behind the scenes photo of Dumbledore - with glasses! Ah yes, it's been a while since we've seen wise old Albus Dumbledore wearing some half-moon spectacles in the films. What a treat it is to see a pretty cool behind the scenes photo of Michael Gambon and the crew within the Great Hall, where it looks like Dumbledore is about to make a speech. It also looks like there's a green cover on his hands for the visual effects.

The scans come from the German magazine Cinema, and you can see the scans here and here. The rest of the article has images we've seen before. Thanks to Harry Potter Experts for the tip!

Why does every crew have their arm crossed? imagine acting to a crowd like that... are they all hostile and dislike how the movie's going?

Richard Harris was Dumbledore in so far as Evanna Lynch IS Luna, Michael Gambon is still doing a good job but I think he possesses none of Dumbledores gentle qualities, his humility, his calming soothing aura and his sheer awesome presence of character! Plus he is way too rough, what with his habit of grabbing Harry and shouting a bit too much! No offence to Michael Gambon, this is merely my opinion. :)

Cool! Have we ever had Dumbledore with glasses as Michael Gambon?

Posted by phoenix_flames_ Aug 21st 2008

i know ive already commented, but i would just like to say that yes, gambon is a product of the directors choices, and yes, many people support him, but *SPOILER HERE!!....when dumbledore dies in the book, the emotional impact was huge, i sobbed my eyes out.i'm worrried as I dont think that any of this emotional impact will be portrayed in the film, as i find it hard to get actually emotionally involved in gambons portrayal of dumbledore. (yes i am aware that in the new film, my feelings toward dumbledore might change, but i am basing this on what i have actually seen so far)....does anyone else feel the same way???

i miss richard harris!!!!!!!!

Posted by Luna22 Aug 21st 2008

instead of the photos, they could have given us a nice trailer

Posted by merrymarge Aug 21st 2008

How come no one complains about Arthur and Percy Weasley not wearing glasses? They are the only two Weasleys who wear glasses.

Posted by gregorama Aug 21st 2008

Wow... GLASSES! Only THREE HUNDRED and TWENTY NINE DAYS to go! I can barely contain myself. Thanks Warner Blunderers!

Posted by weasleyisdaking10 Aug 21st 2008

Posted by tiassa Aug 21st 2008

pottertwilight0627, yes he lost them in the fifth

Posted by Erfa Aug 21st 2008

If they spend 8 months doing CGI glasses for Dumbledore, I will forgive them for the delay. Anyway, what is it with this inconsistency with his glasses? I understand that Radcliffe can't wear contact lenses, but come an, there is no excuse for Dumbledore not having glasses!

Posted by hpfanatic112794 Aug 21st 2008

i dont think that they should bring the glasses back. i mean he hasnt had glasses since 2nd year. Well it doesnt really matter to me. they neee to bring out better pics with the trio and the rest of the Hogwarts students.

now, if only they would get rid of his stupid beard ponytail, he would at least look like Dumbledore!

Posted by Ginny76 Aug 21st 2008

The old Dumbledore was waaay better but oh well:(

Posted by Ginny76 Aug 21st 2008

I agree with sailorprincess6 He's just so harsh. and why's his beard always tied up ,it makes him look like a hobo.

Posted by mugglebourne Aug 21st 2008

YAY! Dumbledore has taken out his contacts, lightened his hair and let it grow. Thats more like the Dumbledore we know and love. Lets just hope he changes his 'harshness' and manner in which he portrays him. I really do feel he makes an exellent Dumbledore in combat with Voldemort although he could act more 'gentle' and brighter towards Harry. Honestly in Goblet of fire it looks as though he is about to strangle harry when he asks him if he put his name in the goblet which is so out of charecter and unlike him.

Posted by camiserr Aug 21st 2008

Now all he has to do is remove that ridiculous hair tie from his beard!

Posted by WordNerd014 Aug 21st 2008

yeah the beard ponytail is a bit weird... i did like richard harris better but that is my opinion. warner blunderers lol i like it.

Posted by markstrange Aug 21st 2008

Niceness! The beard looks longer too. I think this is going to get KICK MAJOR the fleshy part of your lower back.

"Have we ever had Dumbledore with glasses as Michael Gambon?" Yes, throughout the entire 3rd movie, and in all but 1 scene in Goblet of Fire.

Posted by Madam_Marshs_Biggest_Fan Aug 23rd 2008

es ist deutsch lol

Posted by angelina_johnson92 Aug 24th 2008

Yea I'm not a big fan of Michael Gambon, but I do have to say that he looks good in this picture.

Posted by LunaLovegood123 Aug 25th 2008

Im used to seeing the other 1 who played in 1 and 2 with the glasses but not this 1! >.< lol But its awsome to bring back the glasses

How can any of you say he does a good job as Dumbledore? He does a good job as an actor in general but he most definitely is not Dumbledore. First off, there's that ridiculous accent of his which is sometimes just plain annoying. Secondly, he's probably an inch or so taller than Hermione (DD is supposed to be tall unless i'm much mistaken). And most importantly his characterisation is just completely off, and i'm not just talking about the hissy fit he threw in GoF. Take the battle against Voldemort in OoTP for instance. From what we read, Dumbledore was incredibly calm throughout that battle, holding his wand loosely by his side as he strolled forward, talking calmly to his former student. Yet in Gambon's version he spent alot of time flailing his arms about and quite frankly looking terrified. The CGI was impressive i must admit, but that battle, like most things in WB's versions of the books was not portrayed correctly. When Richard Harris was DD i must say i simply couldn't imagine anyone else as DD. With Gambon however, i am sure there is another old man out there somewhere who could play the role better. That said, i do rate him as an actor...just not as Dumbledore. Moan over
