WB sues 'Hari Puttar' filmmakers
WB sues 'Hari Puttar' filmmakers Warner Bros. is suing an Indian film company called Mirchi Movies because of the title of a film it had scheduled to release on September 12th - "Hari Puttar."

According to a WB spokespesron, "We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled Hari Puttar. Warner Bros values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation."

However, a Mirchi Movies spokesperson stated, "We registered the Hari Puttar title in 2005 and it's unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release. In my opinion, I don't think our title has any similarity or links with Harry Potter."

Hari is apparently a popular Indian name while Puttar means son in Punjabi.

Seriously Mugglenet, change the picture for this story! Just because Cho isn't white does not mean her picture can be used next to a story about other non-whites. The story is about Harry Potter in general, so for God's sake use a picture of Harry. Even using the Parvati twins would be unacceptable, as they may not even be of Indian descent (I don't know), they could be Pakistani or Bangladeshi or from any of a number of countries in western Asia. Using the picture of Cho is showing a great deal of ignorance on your parts and you really ought to know better.

i feel terrible for WB, with the way everyone's attacking them. Perhaps WB is justified in suing Hari Puttar, and perhaps it isnt, i think they'll get their own after their lawsuit, whatever it is. It sounds very immature to pile all these insults of WB just because they delayed da movie (if it weren't for them, we wouldnt have the first five to begin with!)

Yes,I think Lupi is right.they could even used a pic of the WB logo or something related to WB,or at least Dan's pic.

OH and Happy Birthday Michel Jackson!!

The names are really close. I don't know what to think. If the guy says that the name has a meaning, it probably has nothing to do with Harry Potter. Maybe they should wait until the movie comes out to sue them!!!

Posted by dsb Aug 29th 2008

i guess wb must think be4 they take a step like that .they truly need to find out the meaning of the title of the movie

Posted by WordNerd014 Aug 29th 2008

i guess we'll find out who's right after the lawsuit...

I agree that WB should see the movie before the sue this Bollywood Company. They're getting really greedy lately and it's been getting on my nerves quite a bit.

HA HA HA HA HA...... I can laugh a lot at this news....... I am an Indian Punjabi boy.... YES Hari is a name of GOD ( Lord Krishna ) and we use Putter for son in Punjabi but this Film has surely taken the idea of this title from Harry Potter and they should get sued for this...... NOt only this... These people are pretty fake people... They have theft the story of Home alone as i can see that by seeing the trailor of this movie.... They deserve to be sued as they are making a bad name of India and they are hurting the feeling of all the harry potter fans in India...... Regards Lovish

Okay i find this really stupid. Hari Puttar sounds a little like Harry Potter, okay maybe a lot. But does it even have to do with Harry Potter? Yeah, prbably not. Maybe WB should look into it before they sue. I'm sorry but theyre being stupid about it.

Hey, I know WB's favorite song: MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY...MOOONNNNNEEEEYYY!

Posted by priyuenid Sep 1st 2008

hey i've seen the ads of hari putter wb do not even have to look at movie coz ads prove it that the indian movie has nothin to do with harry potter or for that matter even magic. wb are only embarrasing themselves

No similarity... except the pronunciation would be exactly the same. So.. what is the plot of the offending movie?

Posted by antibnum Sep 5th 2008

I'm an Indian and the movie doesn't have anything to do with Harry Potter. But the fact is that the film-makers do realise that the movie wouldn't do half as well if its name weren't rhyming with Harry Potter. They are just trying to credit on someone else's creativity and success. Besides it isn't as though the movie is an original, it's story is similar to Home Alone.
