Appeal forthcoming in Lexicon case
Appeal forthcoming in Lexicon case The Detroit Free Press is reporting this morning that a notice of appeal will be filed by attorneys on behalf of Roger Rapoport and Steve Vander Ark in an attempt at "preserving the men's right to continue the legal battle for their Harry Potter book."

As reported last week, Judge Patterson ruled in favor of J.K. Rowling and Warner Brothers stating that The Lexicon takes too much from Rowling's work. Rapoport and Vander Ark are looking into editing the current edition of the book.

No statement has been issued by either J.K. Rowling or Warner Brothers at this time.

It's her work! She DOES acknowledge that other books have been done about HP and she's fine with it..she just doesn't want something that takes her work word for word and rightly so. Let her handle the direct reference books. Especially since she actually wants to do it! If she wasn't ever planning on making an encyclopedia then this might be a different story. But seriously it's as simple as..she made the story up, she SHOULD have the final word on ANY books published about them. Even if the law had nothing to do with it, it's just respectful. At least..it's what I'd want for my work if I spent as much time as she did on HP.

Just stop Steve, please. I can't believe people stick up for him when he went against Jo. That information in his book is not his! The writers of other encyclopedias put their own work, opinions, and made sure to give sources to where they got the information from. They are smart. Steve obviously has no knowledge in writing a book! Don't you learn in school about a Bibliography page when you do research for a paper? Also don't you know that when you write a book you don't just put information that is already free for the public! This just pisses me off!

Lol tonks, yes youre ignorant, steve knew there would be legal trouble and if he didnt hes an idiot. He is completely to blame for the whole thing. That said I hope jkr loses because i dont like her.

Posted by chaibabachai Sep 16th 2008

woah Grnd3lw4ld, why don't you like her?

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 16th 2008

It started with the epilogue because it was complete crap. Then suddenly making dumbledore gay. Then things like crying in court and being a b itch about the lexicon thing. And some other stuff

Posted by FF_Voldemort Sep 16th 2008

Grnd3lw4ld you do realise that if she says someone is gay their gay..right? regardless of how late in the series. the characters are of her creation and anything she decides to Add no matter how much later is...true for example say she says filch had a kid with a former student (ew i know) but still, she is like "god" in the sense that, what she says goes its a world SHE made. Therfore if she says hes gay, then BOOM hes gay. as for the epiloge, thats your opinon, i read it and liked it, i never really like the last chapter of any book.

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 16th 2008

Did i ask people opinions on the resoning of my dislike of people? I dont think so, I just stated them when someone asked to. Regardless my problem with it isnt that dd is gay, i really couldnt care less.

Posted by FF_Voldemort Sep 16th 2008

easy squeezy lemon peazy...i have a right to say my opinion...regardless...do nt be so discruntaled

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 16th 2008

Youre right, you can say whatever you want. But i really dont need any clarification on dumbledores sexuality. It doesnt mean im disgruntled.

Posted by FF_Voldemort Sep 16th 2008

Grnd3lw4ld twas a joke friend

Posted by britishwannabe Sep 16th 2008

Oh for god's sake...this is too much. HE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT THE HELL UP AND GO WRITE HIS OWN darn BOOKS WITHOUT STEALING JO'S IDEAS. This is beyond stupid. Is he honestly THAT desperate for money? Is it worth losing the respect of the fans and Jo? His bloody rights can kiss my ass...Steve Vander Ark is done.

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 16th 2008

No it wasnt. Next time you jump do a flip

Posted by FF_Voldemort Sep 16th 2008

when i said that you were discruntled it was a joke everything else i meant, it seems like your looking for an argument, well your not going to find one here.

Posted by kristine_l Sep 16th 2008

OMG! I thought this was over?? Steve, you're a cool dude, but drop it already will ya? A lot of potter fans are mad, do you think we're gonna buy this book anyway!??!????

Posted by chaibabachai Sep 16th 2008

I thought the epilogue sucked too. I'm tempted to rip it out of my book but I can't bring myself to do it. Understandable why that other stuff would bug you though. The lexicon stuff does seem a bit harsh but that's business..although I do side with her on it anyways, just seems she's in the right on that.

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 16th 2008

Lol dont blame you there, good idea actually. I think shes right too legally anyway

Posted by Marvelous0ne Sep 17th 2008

I don't believe this guy is still trying to do this and waste all that money to publish a book of something that is not written entirely by him! He went to court and was told no. Plain and simple! Now he wants to try again just be editing the content? What for? I had some sympathy for him when this started. I thought he might have learned something. Besides, who would really want a book on it when Jo will be writing one eventually and will have a hell lot more details than his book will ever have.

Posted by dachosenone Sep 17th 2008

Wow, this is beyond stupid. This is like Laura Mallory stupid. Do they actually think they can win?

Posted by Harry_Potter_Prince Sep 17th 2008

Voldemort, dont mind Grindelwald. He looked for an argument when this whole thing started months ago, and there was major verbal warfare on comments page. If he wants 2 try again, every1 ignore him. When people like him will learn that people DO have the right to express their opinion, and is downright chilsish to attack others for their beliefs, i have no idea. SVA made a mistake when he signed this contract with RDR books. However, whether RDR wins or loses., they will be hated, and WB can blacklist them. And so ends the success of RDR books. No more RDR. Jo won the first round. If RDR and their Puppet-attack-dog SVA calls for a second, they can. But, its now mass public opinion, no matter what the judge says, that RDR can kiss the world's ass, and Jo has the right to her books, which r more popular than he'll ever be. Honestly, its like the world isnt safe for authors to protect their works anymore. I root for Jo 100 percent. Steve is gonna lose credibility, IF he didnt already. Btw, in my opinion, the Epilogue was ok. But I think Jo shouldve left it to readers to speculate what happened next. But if she says Dumbledore is gay, hes gay. Just like she said Neville married Hannah Abbot, (and there I was thinking she'd marry Ernie. Surprising. Well, there's always Susan Bones, lol.)

Posted by Grnd3lw4ld_ Sep 17th 2008

Right right, everyone has a right to express their opinion. But they should ignore mine because its different from your opinion. lololol

Posted by draco_is_HOT Sep 18th 2008

i love lexicon! if they delete it ill complain!

Posted by Harry_Potter_Prince Sep 18th 2008

Oh no Grindy. Nothing like that. Its just that- u attack everyone based on their opinion, and accuse all of us of being blind Rowling maniacs. We get it. You hope RDR and their puppet SVA wins. We have different opinion. Anyone can express whatever they like, but u take it so far and attack us personally. But people should remember, this site is for die-hard Potter fans, and we can expect the majority of us, a strong one i might add, to support Rowling in this case.

Posted by laetri Sep 19th 2008

Oh dear god, not this AGAIN

Posted by FF_Voldemort Sep 20th 2008

Harry_Potter_Prince thanks for the support! Grnd3lw4ld_ i more then respect your opinion, youre on mugglenet for a reason no? trust me if there is an unjustifed attack on you we got your back. Thats how we are. But honestly, i looked at both sides before i picked one. i chose Jo's you chose the production company. there is a baised in mine but i didnt let that hamper my judgement. No need to sharpen the claw and brandish the swords. That last sentence goes for everyone.
