New cover for Sorcerer's Stone paperback edition
Thanks to Beth, Elizabeth and E.G. for sending in word of a new cover for the United States paperback edition of Sorcerer's Stone. Elizabeth sent us a scan that she found in the Scholastic Book Club. Illustrated by Mary GrandPre, it depicts Harry, Ollivander, and Hagrid in Ollivander's Wand Shop.If/when anyone sees this hitting store shelves, please let us know!
UPDATE: Thanks to David for pointing out that the top of the cover reads: "Exclusive Scholastic School Market Edition". So for now, only people ordering it through the special catalog will be able to get it. Of course, copies are likely to show up on sites like eBay.

Well, I kinda like it! (:
I still don't know if i'm gonna buy it again..............hmm... .. it does look cool tho! top 5??? awesome.
Ollivander looks even creepier lol
That's so cool! I love all these new cover arts! It's like reliving it all over again!
alas, another book to add to my collection (: I love this cover!
I think I prefer the original, but the new one is still cool.
It's only available in the school market so you will have to check Scholastic book sales etc.
WHy is US having so many new covers? *rolleyes*
woo hoo......top 10.............i liked the other one better.....but its still good.........
That's COOL!!
Oh I like this cover more than the original one...but then nothing can beat the original one though teehee.
Wow, this is a very good picture I love it, because this is a good way to see how the wand select Harry and why the wandmaker was so suprise of the selection.
why the different covers for paperback vs. hardcover?
i lilke the new cover but i also like the old one. but i dont know which one i like better. the origanial is great but he looks kind of retarted in (: lol. and the second one seems cool too. salvinonox has a good point why are there diffrent covers hard vs. soft ?
I don't like this one as much as the hardcover. The Anniversary edition is so amazing, I wish they kept that for the paperback. Even with all the other covers, I always liked the ones with a focus on Harry in the middle and a small scene around him. The far shots make it seem kinda doofy.
I saw this on my sisters book club and ordered it. it shouldnt be hitting shelves though because at the top of the cover it says: Exclusive through the scholastic school market, or something like that
I will deffinetely buy it...Call me crazy but I want to own anything HP and this is a very inexpensive way to have more HP.... I think they will come out with the paperback 10 aniversary edition, this is just for the School catalogs...I don't know maybe not but thats my thought. Can't wait for my daughters next scholastic catalog
I do love this cover also, and it is great to capture a mysterious, and intriguing part of the first "Harry Potter" book, but I am not going to buy it again just because of new artwork. I think with all the new artwork for the U.S. Harry Potter books, they should come out with a book that's all the illustrations by Mary Grandpre that she did for Harry Potter. I would buy that instead of buying books I already own, because they have different artwork for the covers.
Way better cover. Harry does not look so cartoony. Also better than the 10th Anniversary Edition where Harry looks like he is pondering making out with himself. The moment pictured is also way more important to the series as a whole. Regardless, not buying a book I already have.
soooo... how about some "cedric digory" aka robert pattinson news???? he is playing the lead in Twilight as Edward, and it does kind of pertain to HP since he was in it....sooooo where's the news about him???? i♥him =)
I really like this one.
Cool cover! starlette804 if you want Twilight news check out Mugglenet's companion website: http://www.twilightsource .com. It's AWESOME!!!!
http://teacher.scholastic .com/clubs/clubpdfs/sep20 08/Arrow0908_onlineflyer. pdf page 5 You can view that scholastic flyer there...but you have to be a teacher to order it, so I doubt it will be hitting shleves
*starts to check b&n every day...*
Ahhh I was wondering when they were going to start making different covers... But I actually like this one!
ooo Very nice. I like this one more then the one where Harry is looking at the Mirror of Erised.
ooo very cool!!
Pretty :D
well i like the cover but why would i buy the book just for its cover if i have the exact same book but with a different picture ,, if you like the cover that much you can just download a picture lol
LOOKS LIKE HE'S WHIZZING SPARKS!!!
Very cool indeed. Makes going to the U.S. to buy it worth the money. I'm in. It will add to my growing Potter collection.
I know it is in the one of the scholastic book club catalogs (the one's the kids get home from school). I don't remember which one, but I can check tonight and post it tomorrow.
OH, lol. I thought it was for DH at first and was like "Why does he look 8 years old??!!" sped moment.
Aw I love how that chair w/ the wands is on the cover! Cuz it is one of the pictures for the chapter art in that book! Mary GrandPre did some awesome covers for the 10th anniversary! But I think I will stick with my original copy - I can just picture it... someday when I have my own kids, they'll be reading my copy, which will have yellowed & bent pages. :]
i want one
i want one
DANG IT!! I want this one too!! I just bought the new hardcover SS and this one is even cuter. No fair!! I will be getting it!
It was in the September 2008 scholastic catalog, for grades 4-8, which is called "arrow." I linked to it above:)
I just found this book in Scholastic's "Holiday Gift Book" flyer. It's selling for $6.
