Rumor: Beedle to hit silver screen?
According to a report earlier today from CinemaBlend.com, Warner Brothers is looking into making The Tales of Beedle the Bard a major motion picture."Knowing that the magical gravy train is coming to an end, the WB is looking for ways to squeeze more out of Potter."
According to their sources, WB is still trying to figure out exactly how the book would translate into a film.
Please remember that this is pure speculation and should be treated as a rumor until more info becomes available!
Thanks to Kat for the tip!

that is ridiculous. can u say MONEY! WB needs to find creative screenwriters and stop relying on sequels, remakes and adaptions. 1st?
no i dont think so maybe WB should concentrate on making dh kick ass
it might be fun......but who knows....five movies or one long movie?
haha. i was actually just wondering that while reading it last night. ...as great as it would be, i think it would just make WB look a bit pathetic. no offense.
Really? Come on now, isn't that unnecessary. This better be a rumor because if not it would be ridiculous. Lets just slow down and give the potter world a rest. Besides, five stories? That's not a movie. That's a collage of short films.
Why not have it as an animated short before one of the DH movies?
If this turns out to be true, I will have lost all faith in Warner Bros. Oh wait, that already happened when they delayed HBP.
It's likely they want to make Tales of Beedle the Bard into shorts to be shown in Universal's Harry Potter World. You know how theme parks usually have a movie of some sort? Same concept, but Potter-ized! As a movie in a theater though? That's just a ridicuous way to get money, because there is no set plot line. I'm sticking with my HP park shorts idea :)
What is silver screen?
Oooohh I like Alanna's idea of having it as an animated short before the full-length DH feature!
how about having them in the Deathly Hallows, kind of like what Alanna said, but not animated and in the middle of the movie when Hermione is reading the book. It won't be like they will be short on time considering it will be split in two... but knowing WB, they wont do anything that wont make them more money...
i absolutley agree grintlover! Alanna's and Bobina's ideas sound good too- like Pixar's Lifted.
idk man
Ahahaa omg. Tales like Beedle don't make sense as a "major motion picture." They're storybook tales! And all separate stories! Animated shorts would be a good idea though. I wish Mary Grande-Pre would make a pop-up book for Beedle, that would be aweeesome!
It would be so cool to keep the Harry Potter franchise going with Beedle the Bard. It would just add so much more enthusiasm to the fandom don't you guys think? It would be cool if the movie was five different stories intertwined by Dumbledore in some way, like Crash or 21. I think it would work out someway though.
I'm so over loaded!
No way. Beedle the Bard would make a horrible movie, though for some odd reason i would still watch. I hope this is a rumor
Oooh c'mon. Gawd... Warner Brothers... all you care about is money. For real... Thats ridiculous. They can't make fricking... Beedle the Bard into a movie.
The best idea is that they should only make "The Tale of the three brothers" so when hermione is reading it, we can have a visual story. Making an entire movie based of the tiny book is just ridiculous!
This just screams 'desperate'. I do hope that this is just a rumor, because some stories are meant to remain strictly on paper. The ToBtB are some of those. Not to mention that they're TINY. It'd be a five minute movie.
This would be stupid... unless they make an animated short or something before DH as someone else suggested. "Tale of the Three Brothers," perhaps?
I think that it is ridiculous. Mind you, I have not read the book yet, but I just think that the HP world can only have so much. I feel that with the seven movies, that it is just enough and they have already merchandised the heck out of Harry Potter as it is.
that would be interesting... how in the world would they do that? in my opinion, highly unlikely... but if they are serious, then WOW. could possibly be good, if done the right way, but these things never are (except hbp, it looks REALLY good!!), and since the stories don't even have a central plot line that really ties them together...
LOL. I actually just snorted out loud when I read this news post. WB is really getting desperate now that HP is nearly done. Wow. It's kind of funny. Oh well, I know I'll end up seeing it if it's true, though I think they'd better keep it to little animated shorts for the park as someone else said. Otherwise... oi.

haha i was thinking that while i was reading the book "Imagine if they made this into a movie" and then i read this.. wow. i dunno it would be weird, there arent any really strong connections to HP. OMG i just envisioned Dumbledore sitting in a rocking chair with his long beard and half moon glasses reading out the stories like santa claus...
Sounds like a good idea to me. Is WB just looking for another way to get money out of the franchise before it's over? Most likely, but that really isn't a bad thing imo. Especially if it means we'll be getting a motion picture version of this book. I could see it working really well. Basically make each as a small movie, but put them together to make one long movie, and introduce each story as though the audience is reading the book itself. Would be even cooler if they would then insert a little bit of Dumbledore's commentary at the end of each story. They could even film Gambon sitting in the Headmaster's Office set saying some of the commentary. The more I think about this, the more I hope it's true.
I would love more Harry Potter. But only the fans would find this interesting as a film. It would be pretty short, and I guess it might be cool. I like Alana's idea of a short animated film before DH. Idk about this though, it'd be cool though.
I do enjoy the fact that WB realizes just how great the Harry Potter franchise has become. A nice compliment to JK Rowling for her outstanding work, even if they do just want extra cash. However, I do think this is over stepping a bit to far. If they end up doing it though, I will certainly take the time to see it and I'm sure it could be great. It's just a scary move. They could really mess it up. I just hope they know what they are getting themselves into by messing with a book that was made for charity.
I just can't believe it.....Some stories are meant to be left to the imagination...oh wait, has WB forgot what that is. I kinda hope that JK Rowling doesn't produce an encyclopedia (not because that I wouldn't LOVE to read it)....WB might just want to make that into a film too....Can to imagine....Harry Potter: The Definitive Encyclopedia: A 25 part mini-series.
I do not how they going to make this k into a movie, are they going to make a scene like Hermione is reading the book to the next generaion of magic? But if they are only to make money I do not think is a good idea to do it.
ugh, i really hope they don't...it would seriously be over kill
I know exactly how they could do it... After they have finished all of the books movies, and Harry is all alive and well with children, he could be telling them bed time stories and oh wow, it's the Tales of Beedle the Bard
It would be ok if they made it into a movie, but I think WB is just trying to get some more millions for itself out of harry potter. Just make DH really really awesome and leave Beedle alone. Besides, I can't really see how they could make it into a movie without it being really lame.
I would love a cartoon movie as shorts for sure. But I bet they might show tale3brothers as an opening short for DH, or released before the 2nd movie thats part 2. I would like Dreamworks do it since they really got it right with Prince of Egypt.
Eh, a major movie wouldn't be good. I mean, who wants to sit through a collection of short movies? They should makes shorts and put them in front of WB movies. And after they've all been debuted on the big screen, make release a DVD with them. That'd be their best bet (:
I definitely agee with Alanna!
ok so i haven't read the book yet b/c im getting it for xmas, but really this is just dumb. can't we have just ONE j.k. rowling book that ISN'T a film?? seriously?? i hope this is just a rumor.
LAME! the beedle should never EVER...EVER!1! become a motion picture. i seriously hope that this remains a rumour. just cause it's harry potter related does NOT mean it needs to be a movie. cmon people...think about it ps. 5 shorts into one movie? and these would be amazingly short shorts... *sigh* oh people...what has the world come to?
unlike most of the people on the comment board i think this is a great idea! sure WB is only doing it for money those greedy people, but i would love to keep harry potter alive as long as possible i would want to have something to look forward too after DH. im sure that WB will make it very good by changing tons of stuff in it like they always do to hp. but i just want more harry potter anything will satisfy me:)
This is out of control! This book wasnt even meant to be published but it was done for charity's sake. Now theyre going to try to squeeze more money out of it for people who dont need it!? this is out of control! why cant we take these books at face value and use our imaginations to envision it. i totally do not support the idea of this movie
I agree with Ravenxl7....it would be great to have Gambon-Dumbleore introduce all the stories and make his comments on them...however, I'm not entirely sure Gambon would consent to doing it haha...ya know? But still, i think if they did it the right way, then Beedle stories could make a fascinating visual film for Harry Potter fans anyways (other people may just think they're corny ;). Anyways, cool theories and NICE rumor, but we'll see what actually comes from it...we may get an email from WB tomorrow saying, "this is total BS." lol Night guys!
OMG!! I haven't even gotten the book yet (waiting for birthday or Xmas!) & they're already talking about possibly putting the book on film!? That's crazy! Not that I mind, b/c I'll get it when it comes to DVD after the movie has been on film!!! :)
Guys... no. It's little fairy tales. Not a movie. This is like what people are doing to Star Wars, putting an animated thing on the big screen that was originally intended to be a TV show. When something's over, it's over. Squeezing and squeezing to death just makes the original story lose it's quality. I hope this isn't true.
Lol oh yeahhh... I seriously see this happening...
"Knowing that the magical gravy train is coming to an end, the WB is looking for ways to squeeze more out of Potter." couldn't be more true to what WB's intentions are. I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually planning that, but it makes me kinda lose some respect for them...money money money :( I know they're a company but geez. after their HBP decision I know they only care about the money and it's hard to accept when you care so much about the thing they're exploiting.
they better not concentrate too much on this i'd rahter DH be completely amazing!! =DD but i dunno i BTB being a mini TV series but a movie?? it'd be lil odd dont yuh think?? =]] oh well i'd see it either way Davey p.s. MOV IE 6 NEEDS TO COME OUT NOW!! IM IMPATIENT
The book might make an interesting movie (animated or not)--if done properly. Perhaps it could be done slightly in 'The Princess Bride' movie style: someone telling these stories to a child, perhaps? Lily to Harry as a baby? Harry to his own kids? Dumbledore to some students (pre-Harry era)? I'm sure WB will manage to find a way to do this IF the rumor is true... and I'm sure we'll all want to see it.
If this is true.... well it makes me wonder if anybody at WB has read the book.
Or maybe Warner Bros could try doing something original . . . .
