David Heyman talks Deathly Hallows split
David Heyman talks Deathly Hallows split IESB.net has a great new interview with Potter producer David Heyman, who talks about, among other films, Deathly Hallows:

IESB: I have to ask the obligitory Harry Potter questions, is it a good thing they split up the upcoming films?

Heyman: Yes, I didn't want to do it initially. I was like, "This is crazy." And then the decision rested ultimately with the filmmakers. The studio said you do whatever you think is right and initially I was like, "This is crazy!" And then I started going through the book and the thought of doing it in one film is insane. This is the story where so much is resolved. In previous films we've been able to remove certain things that didn't relate to Harry, we took Harry's journey. And in this one it was nothing, I mean, it was so much harder to remove things. The think we could have removed would have been the Deathly Hallows, but the book is called The Deathly Hallows and that would have been slightly problematic. And so we made the decision and I was speaking with Steve the other day, Clovis [sic] the writer, and he says, "you know there are times I think we could have done three movies..." There is so much material and it's such great material that now I feel very positive about the two film approach.

Heyman also talks about working on Potter-related movies after Deathly Hallows, and specifically says that he would not work on Beedle the Bard. This is particularly interesting because just the other day we showed you a rumor saying WB was considering a Beedle film.

Heyman you failed us... you could have stopped the delay, you did nothing.

not cutting out anything sounds good to me

Posted by voldy_shmoldy Dec 11th 2008

Omg... I can't believe he said that. He didn't deny it at all. That makes me kinda sick. I wonder if he had anything to do with the half-blood prince delay. Obviously. Also, imagine if they HAD cut out the Deathly Hallows! That would be awful. They're one of the major plotlines! Second

Posted by AliciaJonae05 Dec 11th 2008

So are they gonna do a movie on Beedle the Bard or not then? B/c that would be Potter related...

Posted by Abergoat Dec 11th 2008

It's "Kloves" not "Clovis".

Posted by Yoneyu Dec 11th 2008

The thing they could have removed was the Deathly Hallows? Please tell me that my eyes are deceiving me, he can not possibly have said that... Sure, he says that they didn't, but the mere fact that he seems to have considered it a possibility at some point is disturbing enough.

Posted by magicalme7 Dec 11th 2008

can you imagine if they took out the deathly hallows? Why would they even consider it?

Posted by Cazza123 Dec 11th 2008

I can't believe he actually considered removing the Deathly Hallows from the film. Thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard. But i'm glad there not removing anything from the last book. It's so important to the story I didn't think they would be able to anyway.

**COUGH** Twilight **COUGH**

Oops, I thought this was about the HBP delay. ----REMOVE DEATHLY HALLOWS? What... the... HELL? I can't believe he even THOUGHT that, let alone mention it in an INTERVIEW. How could you remove DEATHLY HALLOWS?! What else are they going to call it, Harry Potter and the Search for the Seven Souls? an INSULT to Jo. Crazy person. Oh my gosh. And again, why why WHY are they making a film out of Beedle? I know it's a rumour but it looks like they're going to do it. Stupid. You couldn't possibly make a film out of Beedle, it would be totally stupid. I bet you all JKR would have to do is scribble on a piece of paper and in a few days time, it'll have a whole script. WB is CLEARLY obsessed with making money.

REMOVE THE DEATHLY HALLOWS?! IS HE OUT OF HIS MIND?!

Posted by HarGin7 Dec 11th 2008

WB does not understand Harry Potter world at all!!! They have left out a lot of important parts of the story (DOBBY!!). They are all crazy. They know nothing

Posted by merrymarge Dec 11th 2008

I don't mind the split. I am glad that they will try to keep everything in the movie. What I don't like is having part I and part II so far apart. Should have split it like Gone With the Wind. A four hour movie that people sat thru in one day! They had an intermission between the two parts, not a six month intermission.

Posted by bekabee Dec 11th 2008

REMOVE THE DEATHLY HALLOWS?! I shouldn't even be surprised. Since PoA, the films HAVE gotten better, but they've definitely been more focused on ADVENTURE and ANGST telling the actual plot and details of the story. But seriously...I can't believe he would even consider cutting the hallows out....i bet they cut out most of the "half blood prince" storyline too... she titles the books for a reason, you crazy crazy people....

Posted by Slytherin15 Dec 11th 2008

i dont want it to happen!

Posted by G_wizzle Dec 11th 2008

"...we could have removed the Deathly Hallows, but the book is called The Deathly Hallows and that would have been slightly problematic." UMM... THAT WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT! slightly problematic? puh-lease!

Posted by kleigh629 Dec 11th 2008

I don't mind the split into two films, hey it keeps the HP mania alive a little longer! But this is provided the story is intact. IF they cut out major details and plot points, Heyman, Yates, WB and everyone between there and GOD will here about it from me. I will be SUPREMELY PO'ed... as will every other HP fan in the universe. It's bad enough what they did to us with the HBP date, but we got over that (mostly) but there will be NO amount of forgiveness if they butcher DH's release to film...

Posted by milly731 Dec 11th 2008

HEYMAN IS INSANE... how can you remove the deathly hallows??? Although it was definitely sensible of him to want to stay out of the Beedle the Bard movie (if it's going to happen). And I have to admit that the split was great news to me.

Posted by marauder_number_five Dec 11th 2008

I can't believe that Heyman could have even begun to consider cutting the Deathly Hallows from Deathly Hallows. That's really sad... I can't believe how much of a thing the movies have become, and how much the Warner Bros. moneygrubbers try to take advantage of that. I agree with kleigh629 about the split in the movies; though it was obviously done to make more money, I'm happy as long as more movies keep coming out. As far as a Tales of Beedle the Bard movie, I certainly hope not. It would be a dark day when Warner Bros. has to sink as low as a 150-page collection of children's stories to make a movie. Don't get me wrong; I loved Beedle the Bard, but I think making a movie off of it would be a mistake.

I don't think he thought the whole cut the deathly hallows part all the way through, how exactly would they plan on doing the ending without the elder wand? haha Thank god for the split! lol

Posted by jenniepotter Dec 12th 2008

I find it slightly worrying that someone who insists he LOVES the books and always tries to stay faithful to them can say that you could cut the deatly hallows part. 'shakes head'

Posted by HPfanatic71 Dec 12th 2008

LOL. Couldn't cut anything out. LOL. What about all the other great stuff you've cut from the previous movies? Wasn't a problem there now, was it? Somebody should do a CG Harry Potter miniseries that includes everything from the books. I'd watch it.

Posted by Casey71652 Dec 12th 2008

The delay and the splitting of Deathly Hallows into two films is ridiculous. Harry Potter fans will sit through a 4-5 hour Harry Potter film with a intermission. There's no question about that. At this point, it just seems as though they are splitting the film just so that they can squeeze more money out of the Harry Potter franchise. The whole talk of including everything from the books probably isn't true because no one had any problem excluding important details from previous Harry Potter films. I honestly wonder if these directors actually really read the Harry Potter books. We can't really do anything about it....it just stinks that it seems as though all these people care about is exploting HP for more money and aren't concerned with continuing a great series for its faitful followers.

Posted by scurvy_cur Dec 12th 2008

Originally i thought the split was absolutely ridiculous and although i still wish it could be one film i'm pretty convinced it would have been darn near impossible. Anyway it's better than them cutting out the Deathly Hallows - it amazes me that they thought they could - the whole reason Harry defeated Voldemort was because the Elder wand was rightfully his!
