LA Times suggests how to make Beedle a movie
LA Times suggests how to make Beedle a movie Last week, we told you about some rumors that revealed Warner Brother's interest in creating a film based off of The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Now, the Los Angeles Times has an interesting piece about what WB could do to make it a successful film. For example:

Expand "The Warlock's Hairy Heart" -- and don't fuss with the ending. The darkest of the stories is also the most ripe for fleshing out into a two-hour movie, should Rowling be interested in picking the unconventional fairy tale back up. We'd need to see the Warlock before he decided to stow away his heart, lest we watch the selfish wretch for two hours straight, it'd be kind of gory, and without a happy ending. But there are directors who know a thing or two about dark fantasies. ("Pan's Labyrinth" anyone? Looking at you, Guillermo del Toro.)

Do you think WB could pull it off? Tell us your answer in our latest Beedle poll, on the right side of this page.

oohhhh i would love that! i hope they do a movie. anything new and harry potter related to keep me alive. right after i read that i immediately thought of sweeney todd. holy crap. if they got jdepp and tim burton to turn that fairy tale into a movie... it would be FABULOUS! wishful thinking.

Posted by lotte26 Dec 16th 2008

I really think it would make an awesome movie, but they should put all tales in it not just one... i think it would make a great animated film also... It would be so cute... But just using one plot line would be a bit boring....

Posted by Bellatrix_25225 Dec 16th 2008

Oooh, I think that'd be pretty cool if they made the tales into movies! But I agree that Jo would have o go more in depth into them, so that it's be more detailed.

Posted by TheAnonymousGit Dec 16th 2008

I don't think it would work very well. The stories are just fairy tales. But then again, if you look at all the fairy tales have been made into movies now. But it is definitely something that I would NOT want WB to do. I don't like them anymore. That's why I had a hard time with the poll. I HATE Twilight, but I definitely don't trust WB. What kind of choices are those any way?

Posted by claerwen7 Dec 16th 2008

OH MY GOD! i'd definetly go and see that movie! i realyl want to go and see it now!

Posted by chommy Dec 16th 2008

Ahh, it would relive my Potter obsession. :) Ever since Deathly Hallows came out, I've been all 'Ahhh ...' about HP. HBP was supposed to bring my obsession back but since it got delayed ...

Posted by Quantummilkshake Dec 16th 2008

*responding to one of the poll choices* "Uhm, please, no. I'd rather see Twilight 30 times in one sitting. " You make it sound like everyone here hates Twilight.. What about for the people that like Twilight? I thought Mugglecast was friendly with Stephanie Meyers? lol. I actually don't really care for Twilight myself, but just saying. It still has a rabid fanbase... Plus, some people might support Beedle the Bard but love Twilight, and then put that choice. You should at least make a seperate option.

Posted by Sirius_Black Dec 16th 2008

LOL, I'd love to see that as a movie - especially the really weird part when the Warlock rips out the girl's heart and starts licking and stroking it. It was so funny to read, just because it was so random, but if you actually saw it, it might be a bit gross. It's really the only story they could make into a movie though. The Wizard and the Hopping Pot has no point, so it isn't very exciting. The Fountain of Fair Fortune is good but it also doesn't have a very exciting ending. Babbitty Rabbitty is a bit boring, and the Tale of the Three Brothers will be covered in Deathly Hallows.

Posted by marauder_number_five Dec 16th 2008

Oh, god, please don't. Making a movie from Beedle the Bard would be a huge mistake. I totally disagree with the people who say "Oh, well, anything to keep the Potter mania alive!". No. Don't say you'll stoop so low that you'd be supporting a movie based off a 150-page fairy tale book. Not to say that I disliked Beedle the Bard; I loved it. But making a movie off it is a mistake. Quantummilksh ake-- I don't think Mugglenet was knocking Twilight here. I think they were referring to the part about having to watch it 30 times.

Posted by hplvr92 Dec 16th 2008

I can see like an animated thing on Disney or something, but a movie? I think that's kind of clutching at straws. I don't see how they could make them into a feature film... I guess they could do something like Molly sitting her red-headed children down and telling them the stories and it goes into the dream-like thing and tells the tales that way. That's an idea, but I really don't see how it's going to appeal to anyone but the die hard Potter fans.

Posted by hptwilighter Dec 16th 2008

NO! This is a really, really bad idea. Although, I do love the poll!!

Posted by prettyradio Dec 16th 2008

I definitely think that that would make an excellent film, especially if Guillermo del Toro directed. Pan's Labyrinth is my favourite movie.

Posted by Carlikinz Dec 16th 2008

no! ok i loved the book, and i love harry potter. but they can not make Beedle into a movie! it has 5 different stories in it, and dumbledore commentary that would just be a voice over. LAME i dont want WB to make a beedle movie, maybe just of ONE story, like the tale of the three brothers. but NOT the whole book

Posted by Rainbowgurl Dec 16th 2008

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO ,NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS A VERY STUPID, HORRIBLE, CHEESY IDEA!

Posted by Monkey0 Dec 16th 2008

Making TToBtB into a movie would be like making a Die Hard 5. They need to quit milking this beyond consumer interest and let Harry Potter die gracefully. Honestly, didn't anyone see Indiana Jones with SHIA LEBOUF in it?! Do you guys want that to happen to our beloved saga too?!

Posted by hachiko Dec 16th 2008

I think Beedle the Bard would do well as animated films much like the Animatrix or Batman: Gotham Knight. It could be released straight to DVD and feature different animators for each fairy tale. It doesn't need to be a major motion picture to be successful.

Posted by malteselover Dec 16th 2008

Oooh, here's an idea. How about The Tales be turned into a stage play?Think about it: It would be one play, devided into five separate acts. Each act would be one of the stories. After they would be performed, you could have an actor as Dumbledore come out and give a quick little speech, using his commentary at the end. (Don't ask how any of the effects in the stories would be pulled off. I haven't gotten that far in the planning :-)).

Posted by LilyLuna Dec 16th 2008

no. no. no no no. NO NO NO. just no

Posted by Spirit Dec 17th 2008

This is ridiculous. I would rather watch Twilight 30 times in a row.

Posted by Deadly Dec 17th 2008

WB always ruins HP films. i dont think they should make it. i just feel WB is trying to squeeze out how much money they can get from the HP industry.

Posted by Baphomet Dec 17th 2008

That's right, folks, squeeze it for all it's worth! There can never be enough PROFIT!

Posted by nabusan Dec 17th 2008

The obvious thing to do is put all the short stories in ONE movie. Kinda like a Tales of the Crypt thingy. It could be totally separate from HP, a standalone film.

Posted by merrymarge Dec 17th 2008

I don't think a movie about Beedle the Bard will work. What's the point? And a two hour film? No, I don't think so. Too many people expect to milk the Harry Potter legacy. It will ruin it and exploit it to no end. I do hope they check with JKR first. She might not approve.

Posted by s_black5 Dec 17th 2008

I'm really not sure. I totally love the book but i dont know how they would make it work. The dumbledore commentary is what makes it amazing, so i suppose they could let him narrate or something but then im still not sure. It would have to be all the stories so i dont agree with just the warlock story on its own. We will just have to wait and see what WB decide!!!

Posted by AliciaJonae05 Dec 17th 2008

I myself haven't read the book yet, let alone own it, but I think WB should make a movie of all the latest Harry Potter books. I think it would be interesting to see what the stories would look like if they were real! :) If they can pull off making SEVEN Harry Potter movies from the original books, I think they can pull off one more movie.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Dec 17th 2008

That's a really GREAT idea. I think ALL 5 stories could be extended to their own 2 hour movies...but i think it would be cool to put them all into one film or just pick one and make a 2 hour film....the Warlock's Hairy Heart is a BRILLIANT choice....I LOVED this book and I'm soooo happy that it raised so much money for charity. It would be amazing to see it translated to the big screen and WB could definitely pull it off.

Posted by merrymarge Dec 17th 2008

If you want a new movie, then I suggest, Harry a History, written by Leaky's Melissa Anelli. Now, that would make a great movie! And, it's long enough.

Posted by amytaylor23 Dec 17th 2008

I think it might be good if they did the movie. They could do it like the movie "The Princess Bride" and go back and forth between the Beetle tales and present time. But for this movie have the Trio reading the tales to their kids (James, Lily, Albus, Hugo and Rose)

Posted by malteselover Dec 17th 2008

amytalor23: Awww...that would be so cute! I can see one of the trio reading the story, and then Albus/Lily/Rose/Hugo/Jame s cutting in with thoughts or questions.

Posted by hachiko Dec 17th 2008

If all the Tales were animated and released on Blu-Ray Dumbledore could provide commentary right on top of each tale. It would be like a wizard pop-up video. I think would also be fun to see a side story of the attempt to perform The Fountain of Fair Fortune at Hogwarts. It was a Hilarious antic-dote and would make a good short feature on it's own.

Posted by dinky_diddy_kins Dec 17th 2008

This is gayer then andrew..no offense intended

Posted by House_of_Black Dec 17th 2008

I totally agree with AmyTalyor23...take the PrincessBride as a model. They could do it with animation. I do not agree that the Warlock story should take center stage. All five stories could stand alone with Dumbledore narrating, as if he were reading them over and writing his comments for Hermione. it would be fun!

Posted by Lyra_Asya Dec 17th 2008

This is so awesome! If done right, it could be very cool. If done incorrectly, it could be disastrous (as with most things in life).

Posted by JennaisMagic Dec 17th 2008

Is this poll a joke?... Not the actual question...The response..would die hard Harry Potter fanatics actually want to see Twilight 30 times in a row than a Beedle the Bard movie? If so I would like to say that I am ashamed and saddened deeply...

Posted by Lyra_Asya Dec 17th 2008

Yes that is quite pathetic. I do not mean to offend anyone but I REALLY do not care for Twilight. At all. Honestly... A Beedle the Bard movie does have potential! Think optimistic!

Posted by JennaisMagic Dec 19th 2008

Yes! ^ We definitely should think optimistic! =) We would have another movie to look forward to! If they made a movie, we shouldn't look at it as a way they would make more money. We should look at it as a way to further expand our fanship! And that is a good thing not a bad thing! Well as long as you are a true Harry Potter fan it is.

Posted by jojoinpink54 Dec 19th 2008

Totally agreed!!! I mean we should look forward to another movie...Personally I think it would be very cool.

Posted by HPALI Dec 21st 2008

i just hope they pull this off: http://linkbee.com/HBPt heFILM

Posted by JfCsOcCeRqT Dec 22nd 2008

NO no no no no no no no no no no. PLEASE no. If you're going to make a movie about Beedle, why don't you make a movie about Quidditch Through the Ages? Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? It's ridiculous. These are fairy tales, a tiny companion to the HP world to give us more insight...a gift from JK Rowling, if you will. If the WB were to make Beedle into a movie I'd take it as an insult--obviously they only want more profit, not our approval. Besides, they've already wreaked enough havoc on the original series (although I still own every single one....). Let the stories stand as they are--a brilliant bonus. If Mrs. Rowling agrees to this I will be beyond disappointed--in fact, it'll completely change my opinion of her [though I do not believe for one second that she'll ever approve.] Please don't. Harry Potter is not dying, and, if we let it go peacefully, I don't think it ever will [I know I'm not alone in thinking this is a classic tale that will be shared far beyond our time.] However if people keep pushing like this it'll only get old, even to die-hard fans. Please, Mrs. Rowling, don't turn into those other authors who are only in it for an extra buck (ahem).

Posted by Mrs_Karkaroff Dec 23rd 2008

When I read "The warlock's hairy heart" I thought: "What a movie would Tim Burton make from this story?" I really can imagine a movie and I would be looking forward to it.

Posted by Lyra_Asya Dec 23rd 2008

There are thousands of ways they could fatally screw up this movie and maybe even ruin the book experience. But there are a couple ways which it could be done that could enhance and be enchanting. If Mrs. Rowling did approve it would have to be VERY specific and planned out and NOT there only for profit. But it could not be a "director's film" it would have to be "j.k. rowling's film" if you get my drift. I would rather have no movie than a really awful one, but it just depends...you never know.

Posted by hannah1emily Dec 25th 2008

if JKR had anything to do with it, it would be great...I would watch it, b/c if JKR was in on it, there is no way they could royallly screwed it up.
