Doyle works magic in Syracuse, talks with MuggleCast
Doyle works magic in Syracuse, talks with MuggleCast Patrick Doyle, the composer for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, held a public screening of the fourth film last night at Syracuse University, followed by a Q&A session with students. The Daily Orange reports that Doyle answered questions about the movie, his career, the music industry and the world of film composing.

"Working on 'Harry Potter' was unusual, he said, because he worked closely with the director as well as the sound designer, editor and conductor to integrate the music and make it an essential part of the film."

Additionally, Matt and I were able to chat with the composer yesterday afternoon and you can hear the full interview on the next episode of MuggleCast. Many thanks to Syracuse University, David Rezak and The Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Industries!

What a fantastic opportunity! I am such a dork when it comes to the first four movie soundtracks. I listen to the John Williams scores ALL the time and I really like what Patrick Doyle did for the fourth movie. Wish I could say the same for Order of the Phoenix. I cringe to think that we will have THREE more movies filled with drivel from Nicholas Hooper.

the 3rd soundtrack is so genius

Are you JOKING HDMSTRSNAPE??? Patrick Doyle's music was DEAD DEPRESSING! Especially at the end credits... It felt like i attended a funeral march.. there wasn't an ounce of happiness in his music... and I hated it... Hooper on the other hand KNEW how to balance the dark with the light and made a great music! HBP was his last movie though.. John Williams will finish the rest

phoenixknighter, everyone has opinions, and they don't necessarily have to the same as yours ok? I personally thought Hooper's score for OoTP was complete rubbish. The soundtrack felt completely flat and lifeless. The themes he composed were unmemorable and all over the place. The score itself had no central or underlying theme or motif to make it stand out amongst the scores by Williams or even Doyle.

I couldn't agree more ronbon. That music feels like a culmination, a refining of the the themes begun in the first two scores. I listen to it a ridiculous amount. phoenixknighter, I know you love the confrontation but there was a bit of death wound thru the fourth story if you hadn't noticed. I am intrigued about your comment concerning the remaining films. Can you quote your source? Thanks for the feedback.

That's why I loved Hooper so much, he didn't have to have a recurring annoying theme like Doyle and his "Harry in the Winter" theme, lol. Hooper had two MAIN themes, that developed and grew as the story progressed.. like Umbridge's theme and the Possession theme. If you pay close attention in the movie especially, those two themes grow until they become their own song.. the ONLY theme that should be played the most througout is Hedwig's theme, nothing else.. and with Doyle it sounded like he was changing the theme or something which I didn't like. Anyway that's my opinion but i know ALOT of people agree with me, cuz a lot of them didn't like GOF... I loved the movie, didn't so much like the music. OOTP, Loved the movie and music

YEah HDMSTRSNAPE, It was on mugglenet a couple months ago.. which is a good thing! If there's ONE thing i liked about the first 2 HP movies.. it's the COMPOSER! Williams will be finishing DH, and it's good, so long as it doesn't sound too much like his other works (Star Wars, Hook, Indiana Jones etc.) lol jk. Anyway that's cool. As much As i loved Hooper, he's not the one to finish the series.. One thing a movie franchise will always be remembered for is it's music.

UGH! I go to SU! I could've BEEN there! Except I'm studying abroad in Italy...I think Italy might over rull that, but I am still sad I missed it! And I need to know this person who is studying abroad in London, I need to be friends with person, if I'm not already.

I still don't like your tone, boy. If you can speak of your beatings in that casual way, they clearly aren't hitting you hard enough. Petunia, I'd write if I were you. Make it clear that you approve the use of extreme force in this boy's case.
