And yes... this means Ben and I are going BACK ON TOUR this summer! Stay tuned for tour dates and locations!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

WE DON'T ACTUALLY THINK Harry should have died. Well, I don't, anyway. Ben does. But Ben is evil.

This is ONE VIEW that people hold. In the book, we reach the conclusion that Harry should have lived!

The title is a double entendre - it references the view some people hold, that Harry Potter (the character) should have died. It also speaks to those who thought Harry Potter (the buzz) should have died.

But Harry Potter didn't die. It didn't go away when DH came out. In coffee shops and on message boards, we're all still fiercely debating the most controversial issues.

We thought putting our extensive analysis in to book form was the best way to reach out to Harry Potter fans who haven't yet found their way onto MuggleNet (and don't listen to MuggleCast!).

So in this book, we discuss about what really happened, what could have happened, and what maybe should have happened.

UPDATE (June 11): IT'S IN STORES!!! You can pick it up at your local bookstore or you can order it on Amazon here! Go - do it!!

In related news, earlier this week, Gaby and I launched GivesMeHope.com (GMH) - "Like FMyLife, but for optimists!" It's a website where people share their most hopeful, uplifting moments. Or another way of saying it - it's a collection of "Bite-sized, Chicken Soup Stories for the Twitter Generation."

The response has been incredible. You guys did an AMAZING job spreading our message of hope - the website received 185,000 hits in its first 24 hours! Wow! We were voted the #1 story on Digg.com, ranked one of the "Top 10 Hottest Urls" of May 31st, and also got written up in several newspapers and magazines, including Esquire.com.

As I mentioned in my last post, GMH is a cause that I believe in so strongly, I'm going to donate every penny I receive in proceeds from the sale of our new book to promoting GMH.

I'm proud to announce today we have selected a charity to align the website with: GivesMeHope will be used exclusively to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It is consistently rated as one of the most efficient and effective charities, and I've seen the impact my local Boys and Girls Club has made in my community. It's definitely an organization whose mission is aligned with ours.

So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to everybody for all your support. I have read over 1000 of your stories, and I'm just brimming with hope and optimism for our future. As you can tell, I can't even contain my excitement. I hope you'll continue to visit the website, and help Gaby and I spread our message of hope! THANK YOU!!

EDIT: Thank you for all of the positive feedback on the book. We're so glad you guys enjoy it - we had a blast writing it!

I don't think Harry should die. Your book sounds interesting, but, I don't think I will buy it. I'll probably get it from the library. As for Snape being a hero, well, he sure fooled me. I thought he was all for himself, working both Dumbledore and Voldy against each other. Maybe your book is just a book of different opinions. Whatever, I will probably read it.

OMG!!!! im buyin that book!! i cant wait for the tour either!!! yay! AWESOME!

Posted by emilyecstasyTM May 5th 2009

OH MY GOD THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!! :D I'll definitely go out and buy itttt :D Another Harry Potter thing to get me excited for summer, and it's closer to now than the movie, tehe :P It should be REALLY interesting!

Congrats to the Mugglenet staff for finding a new way to beat a dead horse. But with a wedding to finance, it is not surprising to see Emerson trying to find a new way to cash in on Jo's creativity. I read the last Mugglenet book, which was fun, but it was even more fun to score how well you correctly predicted the events in Book 7 (you scored pretty well, but I will never forgive you for calling Fred to live and getting my hopes up...'course I am still angry at Jo that he died). But this book is just an exercise to get people to blow a lot of hot air about a non-topic while at the same time make easy money off of folks who will buy ANYTHING with "Harry Potter" in the title. I'll be passing on this one.

Wow, how cool is it to say that you're a New York Times Best-Selling author? That blows my mind, I'm so excited for this new book!

Posted by phoenixknighter May 5th 2009

BOOOOOOOO! EPIC FAIL!!!

Posted by Anei May 5th 2009

Yeah, New York Times' Bestselling authors that have all of their fan e-mails and discussions to use for material and never cite. Opinions that have been hashed and rehashed. They did it ALL on their own and get all of the money, too. The last book is written. Let's keep talking about what we wish would have happened and pretend that it's going to change anything. The fact that we have such burning and passionate opinions about these books speaks enough for J.K. Rowling's genius in creating them. You won't be taking my money on this.

Posted by TheDogStar12 May 5th 2009

I have to agree with what a lot of others are saying. I didn't buy the last book because it seemed to be just a summary of what the fandom was theorizing, and I don't plan to buy this one either. I'm sure a lot of people could find it interesting, but it doesn't seem like it will have much extra content or make me appreciate the series anymore than I do.

wowww everyone, stop bashing it! it'll be great! i'm really really excited! =]]

Posted by Flawedxxhope May 5th 2009

By definition of a young adult novel, it has to be an upbeat ending. Otherwise it's considered adult literature. That's why harry couldn't die.

Posted by hermyluvr May 5th 2009

OMG OMG! That is soooo cool!! Yay! Can't wait to read it!

Posted by Slytherin15 May 5th 2009

Interesting... I don't know if I'll be purchasing the book, but I think it's a really good idea for a book. I mean, I listen to MuggleCast, so most of those questions have been discussed, but I'm sure there are the fans who aren't as intense about Potter as I am, and they probably are still wondering about some of those topics. Good luck with the book sales and tour! I'm sure it'll go great!

Posted by theaterjunkie91 May 5th 2009

AHHHH excited!

Posted by tabithasnape May 5th 2009

Preach it! PLEASE tell me there is an entire chapter on why she should not have killed Lupin and Tonks in a casual, passing one sentence in the midst of the huge battle and done nothing with it after that! I HATE that so much and I think it was a huge writing mistake. You don't just build up these characters and then kill them off without providing a reason and without giving your readers a chance to understand and say goodbye. JKR even said that she did not mean for them to die in an interview, and I agree that she should have reigned herself in and said, I need to do good writing rather than needlessly depressing random character killings. Dobby got more fanfare for his death than these two very important characters. No one will ever convince me that it was the right choice. I also agree that she should not have said that Dumbledore is gay after giving no evidence of that or alluding to it in the book. Saying that she would have said it years ago if she'd known that it would make us happy is not true. I'm sorry, it isn't. I feel that if it was important enough to her she should have had the courage to put it in the books instead of mentioning it casually. It really looks like she just jumped on the gay bandwagon to get even more praise lavished on her for being up to date and accepting. I'm sorry, I don't respect that and I don't think it was a wise decision. I respect the decision to write the book about where DH might have been different. I think that since JKR has enjoyed so much praise from us she should be able to hear criticism from the ones who care about her books the most. I personally was horribly let down by Deathly Hollows on a lot of levels. I enjoyed parts of DH immensely and I think they show exceptional writing on JKR's part. However I also think she tried to put it together too fast, or with too little judgement and editing, and it was not nearly as I'm sorry if any of you disagree, these are my opinions of course and you are free to disa...

i gotta order ! this wont be realised in Ireland *sob sob* so exciteed

Posted by Sorcerermickey23 May 5th 2009

I do apologize, but frankly the idea for a book like this is slightly ridiculous. The book has been written and there's no changing that--a BOOK of what if situations? I just see no point at all; in the words of Fred Weasley (what if he had lived?!?!): "Blimey, what a waste of parchment..."

Posted by oakshaft79pn May 5th 2009

bookworm1991: How was she supposed to suggest it in the books, Give Dumbledore a rainbow wand. I mean come on, get with the program. People like you, who think that JKR should have left the fact that Dumbledore is gay out of it, should go boil your heads. Nobody seems to care that Aberforth had a freaky innappropriate thing with goats, but your all puffed up and offended that Dumbledore was in love with another guy.

Posted by muggle_manda86 May 5th 2009

wow, mmesnape... that was kinda a low blow don't you think? Emerson is a very successful young man, but I don't think he's all about the money. He's more classier than that. Plus, we probably don't need to comment on his personal life like that. But, other than that, I'll read the book purely for entertainment and curiosity. It won't affect anything I already know.

Posted by tonks_394 May 5th 2009

Firtst thing that popped in my head when I read the title: "Christ, another cash in." I don't care about exploring possibilities or criticism. Infact, critically examining everything, even your favorite book series, is healthy. But that type of stuff works best in the exchange of ideas like in forums. This book just feels like some controversial ideas were half explored and sloppily tied together with nothing to benefit anyone except your won pockets. I know I havn't read the book yet but I base my assumptions off of the nature of MuggleNet. It's not philosophical nor particularly intelligent, just flashy and fun. Another thing is the excess of ads. Seriously? They are everywhere now! And atleast two pop-ups whenever I visit. I know you need money to keep it running but that's overboard. Leaky, I have to admit, is a larger sight yet it keeps going on half the ads. I don't know why I'm writing so much but I have a feeling it's a sort of good bye. I've been with MuggleNet for years but right now the only thing that keeps me from switching is comfort.

Posted by Filton_87 May 5th 2009

Great another book Emerson!! ANOTHER REASON TO GET MONEY OUT OF THE FANS OF HARRY POTTER... WE SHOULD DUB THIS BOOK EMERSON'S WEDDING FUNDS BOOK BECAUSE LETS FACE IT YOU COULD HAVE DONE A PODCAST ON THIS NOT A BLEEDING BOOK. 3 WORDS POINTLESS POINTLESS AND OH YES POINTLESS

Posted by iluvandrew May 5th 2009

i don't think they chose that name because they actually think harry should have died..they're just trying to grab people's attention but anyway, i probably won't buy it. it's a waste of money and i don't really care

Posted by CrimeofPassion May 5th 2009

I think this book sounds interesting, although I probably wouldn't read it. Hopefully it wasn't written just to make a buck. I do have to say, though, that I shuddered when I read this comment: "This is stupid. You guys are not JKR and should not question her writing." YAH U GUYZ NEVER QUESTION WAT DA GRAT ROWLING SEZ SHE IZ GOD. NOT question someone's writing? Eurgh. That leads down a dangerous path of never questioning anything/anyone, from politicians to laws, etc.

Posted by Godric_83 May 5th 2009

awesome, you guys come up with the most greatest ideas!!! i'm so gonna buy!

Posted by Shawn May 5th 2009

Lame.

Posted by waterbug May 5th 2009

People can choose if it would be better if Harry died or if J.K Rowling should have kept it a secret that Dumbledore is gay for themselves. We shouldn't have to decide because a book says that. I think that the book will be good for opion but people can think about these things for themeselves they don't need a book to tell them that it should have been this way or that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by txRABbit May 5th 2009

tabithasnape: yes you're free to espouse your bigotry, but also feel free to change those full diapers too.

Posted by EmmaDe777 May 5th 2009

CrimeofPassion: I meant don't question what she writes about. She can end it whatever way she wants without being criticized. Writing is a personal form of your thoughts, where other people might agree or disagree. Now I do believe in testing authority figures. Not someone's personal writing.

Posted by Felix720 May 5th 2009

FINALLY! I definitely thought Harry should have died. I didn't want him to die, but it was necessary. It would have made everything 100 times more real. I'm still disappointed about it.

Posted by 2obsessed4u May 5th 2009

I am so excited!!! I can't wait to read the book, and rub it in the faces of everyone who thinks HP is over. This was such a great idea to write, because HP is obviously still relevant... look at all the news on this site every day! Look at all of the visitors! Look at all of the MuggleCast listeners! Look at the lego portrait of JKR! You guys are awesome, and anyone who deludes himself that Harry Potter is over needs to give this a read! And by the way, you should come to Florida this time! And/or Michigan! :)

Posted by arianna May 5th 2009

Uh, so this is basically a book where Emerson and Ben dissect and over analyse what Jo Rowling gave us as an ending, giving their opinions on what could or should have happened? Did you write the best book series of the decade? Do your opinions count more than everyone else's? NO. I enjoyed thinking up theories for what may happen in the next instalment and analysing what did happen, but to write a book which is basically forcing your ideas out there for profit is just not on, imo. You have this SITE and the podcast to view your theories etc. I'm up for a discussion sure, but don't milk HP for all it's worth for your own greed *. Who made you more expert than any other fan? The ONLY expert on all things HP is JKR and she gave you an ending to the series. Live with it as it stands. Remember the hype over that Steve van de ark or whatever his name is? This is no different, really. *unless of course the proceeds go to charity; they do right? Not that I can buy the book anyway as I live in the UK.

Posted by sirlupton May 5th 2009

OMG I can't wait to read it!!!!!

Posted by Sorcerermickey23 May 5th 2009

If fans buy this book, it's on them-- I would not presume to blame the authors. Yes, I think a book like this published two years AFTER Deathly Hallows was released is superfluous, but people should not blame Emerson and Ben for "robbing Harry Potter fans"-- it's the decision of the desperate consumers. No one is forcing people to buy this book! Oh yes, and in reply to a previous comment, the Harry Potter series is over. Supplementary material like Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard will probably continue for years (and I hope they do!) But unless the cover says "By J.K. Rowling" then I don't really think people should bother.

Posted by Luke May 5th 2009

I disagree with this. Neither of you are great liteary critics- atleast, not to my knowledge, so I can't see why the book with be such a great liteary criticism- and fans have forums, chat rooms and a whole host of ways to swap their opinions on H.P and D.H. I really doubt your motives, I'm afraid to say, a.k.a- $$$$ And is it not an irony to argue that should the Harry Potter 'buzz' have died, when your prolonging it with this? I won't be buying it- I brought you're other book- which I loved- but not this. And just to let you know, I've been visiting this site since I was 14, and am now 19- and have always supported you guys, alas, not today.

Posted by G_wizzle May 5th 2009

interesting...I will definitely read it...I think JKR should write a biography on Dumbledore and write a book containing more backround info on the other characters like Dean or Seamus. I'm very interested in knowing Dean's backround. Does anyone know if his dad was a muggle?
