Devon Murray on keeping the script safe
Devon Murray on keeping the script safe In a new interview, Devon Murray, who plays Seamus Finnigan in the Harry Potter films, revealed that film chiefs have moved the Deathly Hallows script to a safe house after "several break-in attempts from thieves hoping to steal the storylines from his family home in Kildare." Murray also discusses his fame, admits he "hasn't read a single one" of the books and reveals that Daniel Radcliffe is not as innocent as he seems:

He's totally wired. He's a great man to go for a night out with as he loves partying and is up for anything. He's great craic.

*GASP* YOU HAVEN'T READ A SINGLE BOOK?! you better read them when you're done with the films mister!

Posted by Nirvana89 May 19th 2009

Very interesting.

Posted by johnlocke333 May 19th 2009

That's quite shocking... He must be pretty intelligent... Playing in 8 films and not even reading one book... I've heard everything.

Posted by phoenixknighter May 19th 2009

OMG What an ABOMINATION! HE didn't even read the 1st ONE?!? How did he MANAGE to stay true to his character? Or is it just because he got lucky cuz Seamus doesn't have that much of a personality in the books? Anyway, that's cool about Daniel, I ALWAYS knew he was a party animal, lol. He and I would rock the house in any nightclub ;)

Posted by GwenTheAnnoying May 19th 2009

"...hoping to steal the storylines..." Here's an Idea. Read the book. *rolls eyes*

Posted by Scooby May 19th 2009

*fake sigh* Oh Devin, you let the side down with your talk of drinking and, "great craic." This is why the yanks all think we're like the guy from the lucky charms advert!!! lol. Kidding.

Posted by evanna11 May 19th 2009

He hasn't read any books? :( *disappointed* (well, not really.. What's there to be disappointed in?)

Posted by MaiceyMay May 19th 2009

lol at johnlocke333 I know right? He is so smart! Pshn no offense to him but that's kinda dumb. W/e tho... Awesome Dan's a party animal.... I'd totally hang out with him ;)

Posted by Hermionelover May 19th 2009

How can you not read any of the Harry Potter books!?!?!??!!?!?!?!!?!? It's a good thing the theives didn't get anything. Could you imagine what would happen if they got the script?!?!?!?

Posted by ecniv08 May 19th 2009

shouldn't it be compulsory for everyone who plays an HP character at least read the books? why is he revealing this just now? anyway, doesn't matter really. i overlook seamus 87.63% of the time so whatever..

Posted by bigmuggle May 19th 2009

why did the thieves try to steal the script when they can just read the book the find out what happens...? dumbnuts.. .

Posted by gippaloo May 19th 2009

People are so stupid sometimes....Why would you try to steal a script that is based off a BOOK?? Just read the book morons.

Posted by yRrAh_eLixir May 19th 2009

agreEd! what, they're g0nna put it in aucti0n?! lol

Posted by tacc1993 May 19th 2009

I don't know. I can see why a person would want the script. Finding out what changes from the book they made ahead of time might be interesting. And when you see it you know what the director cut. I don't care if any of the actors have read the books. It may help but all you really need is an excellent director.

Posted by bhart May 19th 2009

i have to say i'm surprised and a little upset that he hasn't read a single harry potter book. even from an actor's standpoint, wouldn't you want to know as much about the character as possible? and considering how little treatment the character gets in the movies, he doesn't have much material to work off of. sure, the director can tell you what they want, but it seems ignorant and arrogant to not read them. i feel like the actors have a huge responsibility to the massive fan base, not to mention the characters themselves, so to not find out where they originate is just silly. and anyway, how is it even possible to be immersed in for so many years and never pick up a book????

Posted by Lupin_Black May 19th 2009

Hmm so Harry and Seamus are clubbing into the wee hours of morning, all Miami Viced up... probably a bit of nose candy involved... not surprised, kinda B.A. As for why would thieves want to steal the script... uhh money of course, think about what some less scrupulous magazines or websites would pay for the entire breakdown of the 2 movies about 2 years before they are out... it would compromise the profit of the films as well..

Posted by aavelar May 19th 2009

Hate to break it to ya' 'bhart' but I bet a majority of the actors, especially the adult actors in the films, havent haven'tread the books. I personally dont don'tthink it's their responsibility in the least. All theyre they'rerequired to read is the script and merely act how theyre they'redirected to. In interviews even Ralph Fiennes shows little to no interest in the actual Harry Potter phenomenon. As long as he puts his acting abilities and good effort into the role, thats that'sall I care about.

Posted by KristynAimee May 19th 2009

I read ruperts, dan and emma interviews somewhere and they all read the books, emma loved the books and her favorite character was her lol, but i dont like people who get famous and lose themselfs, kinda like dan. But bullcrap how are you supposed to play someone in a movie that is based on a book and you never read them??? WTF!!

Posted by mreissh May 19th 2009

I agree with aavelar 21. It''s not part of an actor's job to read the book. Sometimes they are better off only reading the script and basing their character on that. So it's writers job to make sure you can understand a character from the script. For example, Matthew MacFadyen, who played Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, had not read the book when he got the role, and only read it after he finished filming. He based it all on the script, and yet he was fantastic and very much like Darcy.

Posted by javan_weasley May 19th 2009

not trying to be rude to devon cause he's a great actor but i've seen him in interviews and he doesn't seem like the most literate person but thats just my opinion

Posted by Hermionelover May 19th 2009

I would totally have fun w/ Daniel!! Who doesn't love a good party to go to on Friday and Saturday nights? Man, we would rock out any night club!! Just because Daniel's a big party animal doesn't mean he's not innocent!! I mean, I've done tons of stuff at parties I shouldn't be doing, but I'm still inncoent!!

Posted by aavelar May 19th 2009

Six months for the battle scenes at Hogwarts, I'm guessing. All the actors have to be on-call at the studio. Battle scenes, especially ones as large as 'Deathly Hallows' describes, takes a considerable amount of time and preparation.

Posted by iwantorlando05 May 19th 2009

Lmao. I love how all the male actors always talk about shopping with Emma Watson. I wonder if she's trying to make them over one-by-one or something. And Daniel said in an interview that he doesn't like the party scene...he said that he likes hanging out at Indie clubs that not too many people know about, so I guess that's what Devon is referring to. That's really scary about his house though. If people want to know what happens in the last movie, all they need to do is read the freakin' book. lol.

Posted by i_am_nagini_777 May 19th 2009

Hahaha iwantorlando. She totally is making them over one by one. I wonder if Dan's mad at him for saying he's a partier. Probably not...he is trying to change his image!

Posted by tacc1993 May 19th 2009

I just don't see what the big deal is about him not having read the books. I highly doubt that when an actor gets a part for a movie based on a book that they go out and read it. The character of Seamus has so little in the books that anyone could play it. I could probably direct that character "Hey, you're Irish and your friends with Harry. You like Harry until the 5th movie in which you'll think he's crazy and get into some argument about your mom. So just act like a kid who's friends with the other kids in your class and then when we get to movie 5 you act like you hate him."

Posted by angelina_johnson92 May 19th 2009

Haha, jee I wasn't too surprised to hear this. No offense to him, but he had like the worst acting in OotP. I mean, when he was having that little arguement with Harry it was like agony for me to watch it. It was SOO BAD! But besides that...Devin seems like a nice kid. Oh and I wasn't surprised to hear that Dan is a party monster.

Posted by Baphomet May 19th 2009

Up for anything? Hmm, maybe I'll offer him a threesome with a goat the next time I see him.

Posted by crumple_horned_snorcak May 19th 2009

Haha Baphomet, that made me laugh so hard (: But im really not supprised that Devin hasn't read the books...

Posted by DO2the3JEW May 19th 2009

i feel like maybe he shouldn't have divulged so much information like that. DR is of course almost 20 years old, but i think his partying lifestyle is more for him to tell. As for not reading the books, he doesn't have all that many lines, so it doesn't shock me, but it is strange. Michael Gambon hasn't read them either and he's Dumbledore. Not that I'm too happy about that though haha.

Posted by Buttons May 19th 2009

One thing I don't understand - How did they KNOW that the attempted break-in at his house was to steal the storylines? That makes no sense.

Posted by Ishi May 19th 2009

I think it's really important that the actors read the books, because that's the only way to really study the character. Just think about Heath Ledger, I mean he played the Joker geniously, just because he was like a month (or so I heard) preparing to fit into the role. But Devon has such a little part as Seamus that it doesn't bother me that much, he barely speaks at all. What REALLY bothers me is Michael Gambon. He hasn't read a single book and we all saw how horrible he portrayed Dumbledore. Quite the opposite of the always calm and intelligent person that appears in the books. So the main characters really should read the books, if they want to act well.

Posted by ShainaWeasley May 19th 2009

hahah who knew?

Posted by yRrAh_eLixir May 19th 2009

i agree with y0u, Buttons, it d0esn't make sense! how did they kn0w the thieves were after the script?! and is it true that michael gambon hasn't read a single book!?! n0w that's s0mething! that explains why he isn't as calm as dumbledore.. but i always saw him as a go0d dumbledore, though..

Posted by fredfanatic May 19th 2009

wouldn't you think that, logically speaking, if you cast as a part in the movie, no matter how small that part is, you would immediately go read the books to find out what that role might include?? and besides, you are going to be surrounded by people who will often be discussing the books, wouldn't it also make sense to just read the books so you don't have to keep asking questions. woudn't you also feel left out of the loop not reading the books?

Posted by aavelar May 19th 2009

In regards to 'fredfanatic,' I don't think so. When it comes to films, it's not about the book that the film is based on to the actors. That's the job of the screenwriters, director and producers. All the actors and actresses should care about is the actual script and the direction set forth by the director. It's up to the writers and director to help interpret what is needed from the books their films are based on. Off topic, in regards to Gambon's Dumbledore, I see him fitting the Dumbledore from Books 6 and 7 a lot better than I would Richard Harris were he alive. But I know I'm in the minority on that one.

Posted by AndrewW May 19th 2009

He hasn't read a single book and hes in the movies? I don't like him much anymore because if someone doesn't like HP they shouldn't be in the movies, at least for the younger actors.

Posted by SproutMdme May 19th 2009

Jeez....he hasn't been able to read the books? He must be as dense as the character he plays! I've lost respect for the guy! What a dud.

Posted by aavelar May 19th 2009

Some of these comments are completely unfair. I think it's more than easy to imagine that most, if not all, of the adult actors in the films have not read any of the books. I'm sure plenty of the younger actors haven't, either. When are fans going to understand that they care more than the actual actors, actresses, athletes, etc. do? Though I'm sure they love what they do, it's still a job to them. But what do you expect? Fan is short for fanatic, after all.

Posted by yRrAh_eLixir May 19th 2009

but i still think gambon has done his part well.. is it just me? because i compared him with harris and i think he's better.. but it's a bit disappointing that he hasn't read the bo0ks.. but he's still ok for me.. isn't he for y0u?

Posted by jojoinpink54 May 19th 2009

Hasn't read any of the books?? WHAT?? crazy man

Posted by jojoinpink54 May 19th 2009

Oh and what is a craic?

Posted by Chloe_fun May 19th 2009

I think he must OPEN the book but only past through and search for Seamus part. And because Seamus doesn't have much part in the books,Devon didn't say it as READING

Posted by G_wizzle May 19th 2009

jojoinpink54- it's an irish word and the closest translation you can get is "fun"

Posted by ASnidget May 19th 2009

Well it's no wonder he is nothing like the Seamus in the books if he's never even read them - explains quite a bit. But as someone else has said - he's only doing what he's being told to do. Seamus' part in the book is very very very small, and they've made quite a big part for him in the movie actually considering how much he isn't mentioned in the books.

Posted by iwantorlando05 May 19th 2009

He hasn't read the books? Did it say that the interview? Wow...I mean he's been doing this for almost 10 years. You would think he would read one of the books. But then again he is Irish...maybe he's too busy partying to read. But I could've sworn I read an interview with him once where he said he Loved the books. Hmmm....

Posted by merry_sa May 20th 2009

This interview does not seem very legit to me...its like someone took a bunch of facts about him and looped them together to make a story. I also read an interview with him saying he loved the books.
