Hardwick Hall could serve as Malfoy Manor
The Telegraph is reporting this morning that Warner Brothers recently visited Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire to see if it was "suitable to feature" for use in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. A spokesman was quoted as saying:"It's certainly true that they have been to look but we are awaiting for confirmation. There's no guarantee that they are coming and, even if they did use it, it wouldn't be until next year."
One could speculate it would be used for scenes at Malfoy Manor. Thanks to Val for sending this in!

if it does get used for malfoy manor--- IT'S PERFECT! expected a *little* more modern-old architecture-- but still great xD
Oooh I've been there! on a school trip! The interior is gorgeous too!
http://popwatch.ew.com/po pwatch/2009/06/must-list- poll-whats-the-must-movie -sequel-of-2009-.html vote for hbp!!!!! twilight is winning. :(
It's perfect for malfoy manor!! But if like they said "it wouldn't be used till next year" does that mean the split is before the malfoy manor???? Hmmm... Intrigue.
They also need Nurengard (sp?) foreign wizard prison...
It looks perfect, and plus my friend lives really near there - I hope they use it!!!
It's MUY BIEN!! But it needs to be darker...I always imagined Malfoy Manor to be a kind of Goth mansion. It's got the walkway and everything...it's perfect, so I hope they get to use it!!
I bet that they'll split the movie right after Harry, Ron, and Hermione are caught and about to be taken to Malfoy Manor-- a great, suspenseful ending. That way the "climax" for Part I can be Ron coming back/ saving Harry from the lake/ destroying the horcrux. Malfoy Manor would be a great opening scene for Part II.... Aah I cant wait!
omg, its TOTALLY malfoy manor. i reallllllly hope they use it. its pretty much perfect.
that's a beautiful mansion!!! it really looks like it could pose as the malfoy manor!!! =]
I LOVE Hardwick, it's perfect. Gorgeous Elizabethan architecture. It's got ruins of the previous, even older hall in the grounds too which are quite spooky.
Oh yeah, I remember those ruins Loran. It's been a while since I visited. But I love the front of Hardwick Hall- It's like a glittering surface of symmetrically placed windows. Feels like nearly all of that side is made of glass.
That is exactly how I pictured Malfoy Manor in the book. Just shoot it at night, add a little bit of fog and dew, some bushes lining the path to the mansion, and my overall vision would be complete. It would be great if they finally decide to shoot it at this location. That manor looks scary; it almost makes you wonder what's going on behind those walls.
This is PERFECT!!!!
PS - kapuffy26 - dont forget the peacocks! LOL!
it looks too pretty for the MALFOY manor. i always thought of it as creepy and scary. like there is a lot of green
I also expected Malfoy Manor to be darker - gargoyles and grotesques - surrounded by tall trees and ivy. And now that I look more closely, there's too much glass for it to be the foreign wizard prizon... :-)
Ooo, I don't know, I think it looks like it could work! I mean, it isn't really how I pictured it to look, but to be honest I think it definitely looks Malfoy-ish! And plus, I'm really not going to be picky about what a building looks like, I'm more worried about what they keep in the movie from the book.
I've been there! It's amazing! The great thing is that peacocks do go around there and I'm pretty sure they can make it look dark. lol.
it looks how i expected but i pictured on a big hill, or is that how it's explained by jo cause i cant remember, but :)
...Add some huge wrought iron gates, a few peacocks and some hegdes and this would be a PERFECT Malfoy Manor!!!
It's not what I pictured - I pictured it at a big hill too.. But I think that it would do great as Malfoy Manor! Can't wait to see this movie!
DarkMark - YES YES YES! I agree
that is PERFECT!!! i can't wait now. ahhhh im soo excited
that house looks absolutely prefect! it looks pretty close to how i pictured it would look :) i am so excited for this movie!......and only 32 days till HBP!!!
I was expecting something a little different though, like a Victorian era mansion or something. It does look good though!
LIKE OMFG it's perfect!!! now they just need a scary fence in front of it can't wait for the movie
All it needs is a gate and some more trees or hedges. I LOVE it! It's perfect for the Malfoy Manor! I can just picture the scene in my head. OoooOoo!! 32 days!
I think this location would make an excellent malfoy manor! I googled "hardwick hall England" and clicked one of the first links to see more pics, and one shows a fantastic row of hedges...I don't even think they would need to change much. A little cgi to darken the exterior, the gates, peacocks and we are in business. I noticed something funny though about not needing it until next year...shouldn't the film open there? In "the dark lord ascending" the first chapter, the setting is malfoy manor.
I found this site with some picture of the entrance to the grounds, the gardens and such: http://www.cressbrook.co. uk/visits/hardwick.php This place is PERFECT.
I think this is actually a pretty nice place to shoot the Malfoy Manor scene. But it's waaaay bigger then I expected it to be and less modern. It also has a lot bigger lawn then I thought too and I thought there would be more hedges around the property for privacy.
I didn't imagine it looking so castle like. It looks like it would be fine, but I didn't imagone it so monuumental in size. This building looks more like a castle. I imagined a smaller lawn/ground area. They can make it look smaller if they want. I also imagined it to be darker looking. Nevertheless, I surely can not wait for this movie, and Half Blood Prince of course.
Oh yay, my news post got in =D But umm, how I mainly thought Malfoy Mannor would look like, is sort of like Mr. Burns's mansion from The Simpsons. Its massive, but not THAT big in height. Theres bushes surrounding everywhere, theres peacocks in his lawn, and... with CGI, its scary looking! But nonetheless, this place DOES look amazing and I would love it to be Malfoy mannor. AND, this pic: http://www.cressbro ok.co.uk/images/hardwick4 .jpg Bread oven? More like... CHAMBER where Harry, Ron, Luna, Olivandar, Griphook... etc are kept! =D
This isexactly how i thought malfoy manor would look, old, scary and really imposing :) I agree though they should probably line a few bushes on that path to the entrance, and hopefully there's some black iron gates at the entrance which will look just as imposing. I'm not sure whether by not needing this until next year it means the split will come before malfoy manor.... the first scene in the book is set at malfoy manor anyway! So maybe they're going to add these scenes in later in production regardless of where the split is. But i think anything after malfoy manor would be too late in the book to split the films
it's sooo Malfoy-Manor-ish! love it! :P
oooh that looks like a really cool place!!
I think it'd be perfect, the interior is fab and the lower chambers will be perfect to see wormtail scuttling back into (nic contrast in style top and bottom) The gardens also are great and a particular part (off-topic) looks rather like an early herbology garden.... Hardwick's got it! >>> Plus it's like 30 mins drive from me so I'd be all for watching filming. Hope it happens!
