Orlando Sentinel sheds light on theme park rides
Orlando Sentinel sheds light on theme park rides There are some interesting new details online concerning what attractions we'll get to enjoy at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park in Orlando next year. According to The Orlando Sentinel, the main attraction will be what's housed in Hogwarts Castle:

Plans for the 20-acre Wizarding World show more than a dozen buildings, including at least three shops, a restaurant and multiple forced-perspective decorative buildings. The centerpiece will be the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the iconic castle and keep from the Potter books and movies.

Universal's Hogwarts, records show, will be 150 feet, or 15 stories, high.

The castle will also house what is expected to be the Wizarding World's signature attraction. Several people familiar with the project, including one person directly involved, said the ride will be what's known as a "robocoaster" — a ride system in which guests sit in seats suspended from a robotic arm that can swivel and swoop in multiple directions while it advances along a track.

I almost wish I was a kid again...this theme park looks like it'll be a blast. Then again, I live nowhere near Orlando so I'll just have to dream.

that ride sounds horrifying but i will probably deal with my fear and go on it anyways. lol.

I kinda have mixed feelings about this park... if they do it properly, it will quickly become my favorite place on earth. If they make a mess of it, I will probably dissolve into tears during my first visit. Lol I'm probably investing too much emotion into a theme park, but I can't help it!

Cool, this makes me so excited for it! I hope the park is awesome and I can't wait for it to open...as long as I can beg my parents to take me lol

Is the robocoaster gonna be like the Grand Staircase?

Posted by irishfanaticwhobelievessnapeisgood Jul 5th 2009

Yippee!!! something else to look forward to....

Posted by LunyWeasel Jul 5th 2009

I've never heard of a robocoaster before. I hope it doesn't do any crazy loops and things. I love Harry Potter but that might be a little past my roller coaster limit lol. I hope they do a good job with the castle too. From the pictures it looks sort of plastic and one dimensional. But I'm sure it will be fantastic when it's finished

Posted by tonks654 Jul 5th 2009

exciting! if i go (which i probably wont) ill see if i can ride that

Posted by ginmo Jul 5th 2009

LunyWeasel - It BETTER do crazy loops and things... loops and twists are not even scary.. they go to fast for you to even feel it lol. I hate going to parks with people who constantly freak out about rides (*rolls eyes*), when they run like 847638607 times a day and..um.. how many times do you hear of accidents at theme parks? VERY very rarely. And they're usually with tamer rides because gravity is the law for the loop ones. ANYWAY, this park sounds amazing.. AHH. So excited.

What Zigggy about the robocoaster being the Grand Staircase would be a great idea. I hope you can walk around the inside of the castle and visit places like classrooms, Gryffindor Tower, and the Great Hall. It would also be cool and creepy if they had an anamatronic Filch moving around wheezing. I also hope they open up Zonko's jokeshop. It would be cool if the had Diagon Alley on the other side of the park so we could go to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes and Quality Quidditch Supplies and go inside Gringotts.

You probably WON'T be able to go really go inside the castle and explore on your own. The site where Hogwarts will be is not very big, and seeing as these rides do take up space, there probably won't be room for much of anything else inside Hogwarts. However, the queues at Universal are always very well themed and detailed which makes waiting line for hours a whole lot less tedious. I would expect the queue area to start outside, lead up to the school from the gates, and wind around halls, passages, and whatnot isnide with lots of interesting details and things to keep your attention as you wait. BTW, look up robocoasrer on Google to get an idea of how this ride will be. They've also mentioned that the ride will incorporate curved screens so it won't just be another rolleo coaster ride. It will have a narrative to it.

Oh, I hope it's a crazy roller coaster. I love huge roller coasters with tons of loops that go really fast. I'll be annoyed if it's a slow one meant for tiny kids. They'll be really alienating the main fandom, which by this point is in the age group that loves faster coasters.

Posted by TheWestTower Jul 5th 2009

@alex_c98 12 - I doubt the coaster will be very big or very fast. It will be inside remember. The robocoaster design is based more on intricate meanuvers on a relatively simply coaster layout (see http://www.robocoaster.co m/content/) Universal will be adding tons of specaial effects to add the magic of HP to the ride.

Sounds awesome! I have never gone to Universal, I'm more of a Disney fan, but this HP part of the park would definitely make me want to go! Oh, but in the article, the guy said that the fans are more worried about how authentic the park will be to the book, and while I am concerned about that, I am also very interested in what the rides will be! I am a major roller coaster fan, so I will be disappointed if they don't put as much attention to the rides as they do, say, the stores or castle. But, I am not too worried that will happen, I'm sure they'll put care in both aspects of the park! :]

This is so AWESOME! I can't wait to go to this. Im shocked at how big the castle is...that's brilliant! I wonder if that's the ride the trio filmed their video for? But this is so cool! I need to start saving my money now because Im going to want to buy everything in sight.

Posted by Galeinaria Jul 5th 2009

I'm confused. Some trailers say the movie comes out on the 15th and others say the 17th. The 17th makes sense cause it's on a Friday. But.... anyone know for sure?

Posted by javan_weasley Jul 5th 2009

@ Galeinaria it comes ou on the 15 those trailers just hven't been fixed cause i just got tickets for opening night and the date is the 15 of july 09. and for anyone who's interested my sis rented me hbp video game and it gives nothing away from the movie at all (so far) and the graghics are great and it's really fun on the wii TM lol

Posted by meekel36 Jul 5th 2009

This place will be so cool! Too bad I don't have much money saved up and probably won't go for awhile. And galeinaria it definatley opens on the 15th. It was supposed to be the 17th but they usually change the date and release big blockbusters like HP on Wednesdays.

Posted by krazykobra29 Jul 5th 2009

a robocoaster?? haha that sounds so cool! i cant wait!

Posted by Galeinaria Jul 5th 2009

Thanks for those who answered my question about opening night!!
