Dan Radcliffe to star in Broadway musical?
Dan Radcliffe to star in Broadway musical? Variety is reporting that Dan Radcliffe will be starring in an upcoming musical titled "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" on Broadway.

Producers, directors, and choreographers are already in place but Dan is the only cast member set for the production. A reading set to be held in December will determine who the other cast members are. From Variety:

Written by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, "How to Succeed" chronicles the rise of a crafty window cleaner as he follows the advice of a self-help manual to connive his way up through the ranks of the World Wide Wickets Co. and get the girl in the process.

As most fans know, Dan starred in London and New York productions of the stageplay "Equus" alongside fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths during 2007 - 2008. We'll update with more when we can! Thanks to Maggie for the tip.

I would less surpriced when this was about Tom Felton, he's the one we know he can sing and from Daniel we have not heard before of this talent. Guess it will be tough lessons, including dance lessons, also a talent he said he was not overloaded with. In the Goblet the cameramen had to take procaution not to show too much of his awkward footwork. w"ll see what comes of this..... that's to say those who live close enough to Broadway.

News and updates don`t come too often this past few days. :| Anyway, hmm... it`s my first time to hear him do stageplays. So late. :-j I think it`ll be interesting. We`ll see about that. I won`t be able to watch though.

well he did do that song and number that he wrote for broadway cares didnt he. akso i think i read in an interview that he would do a musical. I'll believe it when I see it but I think he would be good.

Kamion: in a musical, the leads usually don't dance very much (or at all). The chorus does. What we will have to keep an eye (or ear) open for is Dan's singing. So excited! Hopefully I can make it up to NY while he's contracted.

OMG...my school had this musical last year and I was in it!!! It is an amazing musical, and one of the alumni for MICDS (my school) wrote it :) I want Dan play Mr.Biggley! That'll be funny...lol

I am so happy for hm. I have really grown out of my 'Potter' phase so I'm glad Dan will be able to move on. Seems like he's got a great career ahead of him! I can't wait to see what he does in the future.

another chance to see dan on stage? i'm there! even if he's not going to be naked. lol

But what about DH? I thought they would be filming until Feb. Would this push back the opening of DH? I don't want to wait again for the last movie.

Daniel has often said that he cannot sing or dance. I am, therefore, surprised to hear this. Sort of wonder if it is really true. As Kamion stated above, it would be less surprising to hear this about Tom Felton. ActingDude17 says that the leads in musicals do not dance much, but I beg to differ. They often do not dance with the chorus, but they may be required to do solo or duet work. Would Daniel really be up to that? I admire the young man very much. If this item is for real then I admire him even more for taking the plunge and stretching himself with the singing and dancing. Whatever happens...go Daniel go!!

I remember reading or hearing in an interview back when he was doing Equus, that he was taking singing lessons.

Posted by Snapealicious Oct 9th 2009

I could see Dan doing this. Why is it always little guys that play the lead in this show? Robert Morse for the film, and I saw Matthew Broderick do it on stage at the La Jolla Playhouse some years back. With enough training and rehearsals I'm sure Dan could do a passable job at the singing and dancing. Now that I think about it, I'm looking forward to him pursuing this. Hope it comes somewhere close enough for me to see it.

But you also have to remember that this is just for a READING of the musical. It isn't definitely going to Broadway yet, and even if it does, it isn't definite that he will be in it when it does. A reading is just to test out a cast and see if they can get some backers and such.

Dan is going to star in a musical??? Does this means he going to sing??? Does he know how to sing???? He can definitely has stage presence and can keep an audience attention.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 9th 2009

Awesome!! Go DAN!! I saw a video of him on youtube singing in an Equus parody and his voice isn't bad. Plus not everyone who performs in musicals can sing. It's part of the whole charm. I think Dan will be briliant and I can't wait to see this! I hope it's true and it's nice to see all the HP actors doing so many other projects.

i think its cool he is exploring other aspects of the business and isnt just sticking to potter, but im not sure if he can sing, ive never heard anything about it, hmmm im excited to see how this turns out!

Posted by DeathlyH Oct 9th 2009

If this is true, then I'm going back to NYC ASAP! *is overly optimistic* He still deserves a Tony... he was so beautiful in Equus. (On the plus side, if he's a good singer, he should join Coldplay, then they can have the two hottest British singers on the planet! ;P)

Wow....A magical window cleaner!!!...lol.

Posted by dellea Oct 9th 2009

I'm really excited about this! Dan Radcliffe is a major celebrity who is leaning towards theatre and bringing the crowds in. As a person with a passion for theatre, this is good for the underrated profession. Go DR :)

Posted by lannaluna Oct 9th 2009

wow..i didnt know he could sing!

Posted by hermionenessie Oct 9th 2009

wow, don't know if this is true but it's definetly got me interested! i'm having a hard time imagining him singing, but if it's true i'm sure he'll be great. i've seen this musical at my college and it's really funny, i'm sure it'll be a success.

Posted by callmebella Oct 9th 2009

haha we did this when I was a sophomore in high school! It'll be really funny to see 'Harry Potter' in it...

...someone get me tickets to New York and Broadway right the eff now.

Posted by RaddishEarrings Oct 10th 2009

I'm a hug fan of Dan, and I adored Equus, but I'm not sure how I feel about this news. He's not a great singer, and a worse dancer. Even with lessons, I don't see how he can be ready for Broadway. This seems to me like the makers of this show saw how much Equus sold with him in it, and wanted to put him in this one, too. So now he has the role, with a merely adequate voice, and all the very talented performers with real vocal talent waiting for their breakthrough in this field didn't even get a chance. =/

Posted by Startori Oct 10th 2009

I didn't know he could sing. Anyone can learn to dance if they have any sort of rhythm. Good luck to him.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 10th 2009

To everyone talking about Dan's singing ability...do you really think he would hired as the lead in a MUSICAL if he couldn't sing? He's a talented actor, but there are others who could've been chosen, bu t they chose him. So I definitely think he's got some hidden singing ability. We all know he's a music lover. I just hope this comes to fruition because I can't wait to see it.

iwantorlando05 wrote: "do you really think he would hired as the lead in a MUSICAL if he couldn't sing? " Well stranger things has happened on Broadway, but one thing is sure: Dan would draw a crowd to the show even when acting on crutches and two legs in plaster. But when I had the choice between seeing a show with an unknown actor in the lead performing splendid or a celeb performing mediocre or badly, I would choose the first.

Posted by aurordawlish Oct 12th 2009

Awesome! I hope the musical is up and running by the time I go to New York for our school drama trip! I might be able to see it! I know a lot of you think he might not be able to sing and dance, but I think he will do well. Good job Dan!

Oh man! Haha this is funny! I would love to watch it!
