You know? As much as i LOVED HBP, Star Trek was still the best movie of the summer, making HBP come 2nd.. and i'm NOT even a Star Trek fan, lol. I still voted for Harry Potter though.

Posted by GrangerLaughs Oct 19th 2009

Ok, I guess I'm some kind of a traitor because I voted for Star Trek. I loved HBP but Star Trek left a bigger impression on me. I am a Trekkie as well as a HP fan. Why is it that some people didn't like HBP but they liked GOF? HBP is much better than GOF. I detest the graveyard scene in the movie.

Posted by USAhermione Oct 19th 2009

You know, as much as I love Harry Potter, I didn't think Half Blood Prince wasn't that good.

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 19th 2009

haha i feel you GrangeLaughs... I like GOF... at the time. lol. But now that I look at it..Newell didn't really have any distinctive directing talents that made him any different or better than Columbus, Cuaron or Yates. The script was good.. the story phenomenal, the directing was sorta mediocre. It almost reminded me of COS.. Strip all the action and magic, ALL OF IT. and what do you get?? ehm.. something forgettable to be honest. HBP was right there with POA in artistry, and kept a LOT of things that i thought wouldn't even make it to the big screen, like Arnold the Pygymypuff.. Yates does a little bit of everything and adds his own style of TV directing which gives HP a very swift and grounded feel to it. But Yates GREATEST strength is his TEAMWORK.. from the wonderful cinematography of Bruno Delbonnel, to the music of Nicolas Hooper.. to Steve Klove's script.

Posted by MagdaleneRose Oct 19th 2009

well I voted for Half-Blood Prince... & was told that " Your vote was not counted because you did not select a choice." ---???

Posted by RedKat82 Oct 19th 2009

HBP was one of the worst movies I saw this year! This was a big step backwards from an already awful movie franchise. If someone doesn't buck up the courage to tell these kids they cannot act, then there's no hope for a good seventh or eighth movie. Up was my favorite movie this year and Star Trek was a close second.

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 19th 2009

RedKat82 .. who the hell are you?? ARe you even a Harry Potter fan.. or some SPAMMING TOOL??? Harry Potter has bad actors??? Someone's on crack, lmao!

Posted by HeRonfan Oct 19th 2009

Loved HBP in many ways...others not so much(Harry and Ginny storyline still makes me vomit), but Star Trek was the better movie. Then again, it did not have a recently read book to live up to. Star Trek brought me back to my youth watching the re-runs and wishing they had better FX back in the '60s, but you work with what you've got. Anyway, Star Trek absolutely re-vitalized the franchise, and hopefully brought a few new Trekkies on board.

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker_7 Oct 19th 2009

I'm a bit of a Trekkie. I LOVED Star Trek. Awesome. So funny! I thought HBP was the best HP movie to date, but they have never lived up to the books, and because they don't, I liked Star Trek better. But, then again, Harry Potter is Harry Potter, so I am not voting. It's against my moral and ethical values to vote against Harry Potter, so sorry, Star Trek.

Posted by kiwiHarryPotter Oct 19th 2009

Come on everyone! Vote for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The gap is closing. I just voted and the percentage is now 22% to Star Trek's 27%

Posted by RonLover19 Oct 19th 2009

Really, people?!? Who the heck are you all? Last time I checked, this was a harry potter fansite and I just read a whole load of traitor comments! If you want to vote for other movies why are you all bashing hp here? Isn't there a star trek or twilight site for that? I will be casting my vote for half-blood prince because I see myself as a true fan, not to mention this movie was absolutely amazing!!! Harry Potter all the way!! (For the record, the harry potter cast is phenomonal and if you think this franchise is awful, you really have no business being here. DELUSIONAL!!! :) )

Posted by RonLover19 Oct 19th 2009

On a side note, today's date, October 19, 2009, marks the 13-months-till-Deathly-Ha llows-is-out day!!! In exactly 13 months a good number of us will be seeing DH part 1! I must warn us all to not wish those 13 months away, though. Half the fun of this experience will be getting there so enjoy this now while we still have it. This will probably go by waaaay too fast and Deathly Hallows is all we have left. :( 13 months: Celebrate but cherish the moment! :)

Posted by Gryffindor_Seeker_7 Oct 19th 2009

Bless me, JKR, for I have sinned. I'm sorry I said I liked Star Trek better. I am sorry about my traitorous comment. Star Trek was awesome. But HBP was Harry Potter. Harry Potter is better than anything else in the world OR final frontier. You people made me feel all guilty by comparing Star Trek to Twilight, so I went and voted for HBP. I HATE Twilight. So I voted. I hope you people are happy. Even though the movies don't live up to the books, it is HARRY POTTER and that is all that matters.

Posted by trueligth Oct 19th 2009

I like HP, so will are still on the run. Hurray for Potter!!!

Posted by purebloodaustin Oct 19th 2009

i never saw star trek and i dont plan to so hp wins for me

Posted by i_am_hermione Oct 19th 2009

agreed, who are you and what on earth are you doing on a harry potter freak site if you voted for star trek above harry potter? honestly! VOTE HBP!

Posted by RonLover19 Oct 19th 2009

i_am_hermione, I compleately agree!! I second that!! Gryffindor_Seeker_7, yay! I'm glad you changed your vote and I am very happy!!! LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER! YOU'LL ALWAYS HAVE MY VOTE!! :)

Posted by MrPoe Oct 19th 2009

I'll be honest HBP was NOT the Best Movie of the year, so I didn't vote for it. I voted Star Trek. But the reason I'm on this site is becuase I'm a bigger Potter fan than I am a Trekkie. But if its not the best movie then why sould I vote for it? STAR TREK RULES THE YEAR!!!!

Posted by HeRonfan Oct 19th 2009

I don't understand why Twilight is popular at all. That movie was awful in my opinion. I rented it so I would know what people were talking about. I sat there the whole time wondering if it would get better. I guess it is a teenage chick flick, but HP is not even if it had the hormones raging. It speaks to more audiences--both age and gender. HBP was not the best movie of the year, although it was certainly the one I looked forward to the most. There's wishing, and then there's reality. Just because I can recognize that does not make me anti-HP. It just is, unfortunately.

Posted by Luckydoggy Oct 19th 2009

HARRY POTTER FTW i voted. :) gonna kick some star treck butt.

Posted by luna_loveevil Oct 19th 2009

I voted for HP...but honestly Star Trek was wayy better :D (i'm not a trekkie).

Posted by MrPoe Oct 19th 2009

WOW. I just read the above comments and I was shocked. You guys should be ashamed. So what if someone liked the Star Trek movie better than the Potter movie? You're gonna make someone feel bad that they liked a movie better than HBP? That is low for a Potter fan. You guys are blind fans NOT TRUE FANS. You guys give Potter fans such a bad name, that you make Twilight fans look good. FACE IT: HBP WASN'T THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR, I'LL NAME A WHOLE BUNCH THAT WERE BETTER- Star Trek, Inglourious Basterds, Up, and heck, maybe even Where the Wild Things Are. And you know what, admiting HBP wasn't the best makes me the TRUE fan I am. Its called passion, not some disease you call fandom.

Posted by charles Oct 19th 2009

i have just voted and the scores have gone up

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 19th 2009

I don't care how much I loved the other movies...I'm still voting for HBP! It was my most anticipated movie of the year and the one I enjoyed the most (I saw it 6 times). I loved the Hangover and Star Trek and will definitely be buying them when they come out on dvd, but I'm voting for HBP! It was an amazing film and it's HARRY freakin' POTTER!!!!

Posted by _stephaniee_ Oct 19th 2009

Well HBP is at 22% and Star Trek at 26%...

Posted by zoltan47 Oct 19th 2009

I like HBP, but Star Trek and especially Up were better. Someone asked what am I doing on a HP site, as if it's an either or situation. It's not. I can like all three, and I just think Up is the best film of the bunch.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 19th 2009

WHO CARES IF THEY WERE BETTER?!! It's not like you're voting for the Oscars! I completely disagree...I thought Half Blood Prince was one of the best films of the year when it came to quality. The cinematography was amazing, the music was beautiful, the acting was Brilliant! Some people act like the FILM wasn't good just because they deviated from the book a little. But honestly, what did you guys expect! We're 6 films in...you should know by now that they're not going to be exactly like the book! As a stand alone film...Half Blood Prince was BRILLIANT!

Posted by MrPoe Oct 19th 2009

@ lwantorlando051 DID YOU SEE STAR TREK? You think Nick Hooper was brilliant? Michael Giacchino is Academy Award Nominated and the HBP score doesn't even compare with Star Trek's. I don't hate HBP, I LOVED IT. But it wasn't good as the other movies this year. I don't want Star Trek to go down becuase of some of you guys who know that Star Trek was better but just voted Potter becuase of the other users here. Star Trek was pretty much the best reviewed live-action film of the year (rottentomatoes.com anyone?)

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 19th 2009

I WAS NOT COMPARING HBP TO STAR TREK! I WAS NOT SAYING IT WAS BETTER OR WORSE! What I was saying is that I thought they were BOTH completely different films and that they were BOTH excellent! But I loved HBP more simply because I've been a Harry Potter fan for 10 years of my life, so it's only natural for me to vote for it! I have quite a few scores from the Star Trek soundtrack...I know it was good. It was very good. But I actually bought the HBP soundtrack because I loved it! I love BOTH films. I loved the Hangover too. It was amazing. But I'm still voting for HBP because it was MY favorite of the year. Everyone else can vote for whatever they want. I'm voting for HBP.

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 19th 2009

MrPoe with ALL DUE RESPECT, i liked Star Trek, alot.. suprisingly. but the MUSIC?! better than HBP?? c'mon man, C'MON! I don't even remember the music! Even Star Wars had memorable music to this! HBP the music is Still in my head, and if there's ONE THING that's memorable about HBP, it's the cinematography and the music.. ok make that 2 things lol. So yes Star Trek was better.. but HBP was the 2nd best of the Summer hands down...and WHY would you compare Inglourious Basterds with Harry Potter?? 2 different Genres BY FAR! That's like comparing The Dark Knight with Children of Men.. both great films.. and VERY DIFFERENT! Star Trek and Harry Potter are BOTH comparable dude, because they're both Fantasy/Sci-Fi.. So i agree and disagree with you. just like what iwantorlando said.. we're 6 FILMS IN! Other than Deathly Hallows, anyone who went in the theatres saying "I hope they kept everything from the book" is what Andrew said about the H/Hr shippers: DELUSIONAL. Maybe after DH part 1 and 2 you'll learn to love David Yates. And be happy that John Williams is returning too.. it's about time lol

Posted by Mottocat Oct 19th 2009

Hmm. I have to say that I did vote for Star Trek, because I think it was amazing. Chris Pine (

Posted by bhart Oct 19th 2009

HPB was the best movie so far (aside from the first and second movies), but I generally detest the movies. they cut WAY too much out, and although the trio is getting better at acting, they still pale in comparison to the supremely better adult actors in the series (gary oldman anyone?). every year i see the movies hoping they will live up to my expectations, and after seeing HBP, i finally realized that they never could. this isn't because it's not translatable to film (LOTR is a prime example of "nontranslatable" literature beautifully translated to film); it's because the movies just aren't good. because i am a true fan of / loyal to THE BOOKS, i cannot support the movies. !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by joyful_slytherin Oct 19th 2009

HALF BLOOD PRINCE IS AT 23%, STAR TREK IS AT 26% COME ON GUYS! THERE DEFINATELY HAS TO BE MORE HARRY POTTER FANS THAN STAR TREK!!! KEEP VOTING

Posted by MrPoe Oct 19th 2009

@ Phoenixknighter: My problem with the HP films isn't what they cut out. It's the director. And of course you can compare Inglourious Basterds with Harry Potter. THEY"RE BOTH MOVIES. You can't compare a HP with a documentary, but why can't I compare it with Inglourious Basterds? They're different genres but they're both movies. You have got to be joking with the Nick Hooper music right? There was absolutely no power to the score. And you seem to have a completely different view of Star Wars music. Star Wars is probably one of the greatest score ever composed, but Nick Hooper isn't even a speck of dust when compared with Michael Giacchino.

Posted by MrPoe Oct 19th 2009

@ Joyful_slytherin: MORE POTTER FANS THAN STAR TREK? Do you have any clue how old Star Trek is and the fanbase out there? Of course you don't. You're parents probably are Trekkies. When I went to see the movie, there were 60 year old people going in. There are probably 4 times more Star Trek fans than Harry Potter fans. Hey, I'm not a Trekkie, but that's the truth. I like Harry Potter more than Star Trek but the Star Trek movie was waaayyyy better than HBP.

Posted by MagdaleneRose Oct 20th 2009

this isn't a forum for debate of whether Harry Potter of Star Trek is better... I'm sure they're both great -- but as the only movie in the list I saw was HBP (and because I really loved it!) that's what I personally voted for :~)

Posted by merrymarge Oct 20th 2009

I had to vote for HBP. Star Trek wasn't original. It was a remake of the '60's t.v. show. Anyway. HBP wins with me.

Posted by FF_Voldemort Oct 20th 2009

Can you people vote and shut up? God, comparing movies is comparing opinions. And honestly, no one cares about your opinions!!!! If you liked Star Trek, vote for Trek. Ya like HP vote for Harry potter. It's not freaking rocket science. God.

Posted by Startori Oct 20th 2009

Um, I voted for Star Trek. The twists and turns from the original series made it highly enjoyable. I loved HBP with the exception of the attack on the Burrow, and I guess I do feel a little like I betrayed Harry Potter. Still, I feel that in all honesty my vote belonged to Star Trek.

Posted by muttw007 Oct 20th 2009

here is my opinion...i find that the best movies of the year are Public Enemies and Angels and Demons...Public Enemies knocking any film of 2009 out of the water!..thank you for your time.

Posted by RedKat82 Oct 20th 2009

Okay ... so it is traitorous for the already built-in hardcore fans to vote another movie than Potter because they honestly liked it better than HBP and THEY are the traitors? Looks like WB is off the hook, I guess. (Not a Hater, just my opinion)

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 20th 2009

Hey MrPoe.. Of Course I know Star Wars has one of the greatest music.. written by none other than John Williams.. I personally think Star Wars theme song is better than Harry Potter's theme.. and we can ALL agree that John Williams is one of the greatest theatrical composers out there. But Nicolas Hooper was still good in his own right.. I never compared him (Especially Patrick Doyle) to John Williams, cuz their goal was to imitate his style of music the best way they could anyway. Hooper achieved that FAR MORE than Doyle did.. Doyle's music was very Loud, Depressing, Cliche, and too many Fanfares for my taste.. I liked the winds playing at the 3rd task and all, but some times it got too redundant. Hooper uses more of Strings (a little too much?) and his music is More on the emotional side, then the Epic side like Williams.. the Only Epic music Hooper made in HBP was the part when Harry and Dumbledore were standing on the rock looking at the cave.. and the Inferi in the Firestorm track. So I HAVE to give Hooper some credit. I'm GLAD he's leaving though so Williams can finish what he started, but I'm glad that Hooper got to contribute some of his music to the series.

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 20th 2009

OOPS! I mean the brass playing in the 3rd task.. not the winds, lol

Posted by GracelessDementor Oct 20th 2009

Guys, come on! We are HarryPotter fans and we have to stay strong together! If HBP was full of crap I would still vote for it because I adore Harry Potter from the core of my being! Also we have to stick it to those idiotic twilight fans. I was SO happy when twilight wasn't there! Let's rock on together HP fans! We are the best fandom out there. ( the twilight fans can girl about all they want-- we still out number them a hundred to one!)

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 20th 2009

Whatever...if you hated the movie or not...you should still vote for it just to support Harry Potter. Star Trek just won like 5 SCREAM awards...Harry Potter deserves to win something. And again...it's not like this is a serious award. It's for Yahoo for goodness sake.

Posted by phoenixknighter Oct 20th 2009

you know? it's FUNNY how the NON-hardcore fans are more supportive of the Harry Potter movies than us, the SO-CALLED hardcore fans. In the 2009 Scream Awards.. alot of the ppl who voted for Harry Potter haven't even read the books like we have... They all voted for the "Holy shhh" scene of the year and other stuff. Maybe we should learn a thing or two from the non fans...

Posted by Adeline Oct 20th 2009

bleh, I was not a fan of Star Trek, I definitely voted for HBP.... I'm kinda not surprised its winning. I'm a big trekkie and was kinda disappointed :( But thats just me, I know its popular with like everyone else O.o I'm a big fan and I'll always say the books are 100% better, but I think for me HBP was still the most memorable movie of the year despite that.

Posted by Firestorm Oct 20th 2009

Hey!! I sent a reminder to MuggleNet, too! In it, I specifically mentioned the reason I wanted all the fans to know about this nomination and go vote for HBP: "because it would be very painful to watch Star Trek win." Come on, guys! HBP was obviously the Movie of the Year. Besides what everyone said in the comments, HBP did insanely better at the box office, worldwide AND in the US!

Posted by SuzieQ Oct 20th 2009

I really don't think any of the harry potter movies deserve any big award.... some of the actors, yes, but the movies as a whole, absolutely not.

Posted by General_Martok Oct 20th 2009

Given my site name, you KNOW who I'm voting for. QUAPLA!
