Deathly Hallows won't be the largest film of 2010?
Deathly Hallows won't be the largest film of 2010? According to Times Online, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 won't be the biggest film of 2010. They believe Iron Man 2 will be the biggest. Here's the reasoning for why Deathly Hallows won't take the top spot:

Part one of the final Harry Potter movie. Part two will follow in July 2011. Devoted fans have known what happens in the story since 2007; for newcomers, Harry and his pals Ron and Hermione search for some magical artefacts called Horcruxes. The plot takes the trainee wizards out of Hogwarts for much of the movie, resulting in a marked change of atmosphere compared to its predecessors.

Do you agree with Times Online? We sure don't! The Harry Potter franchise is the greatest earning franchise of all time, and a second Iron Man certainly won't earn more than a Potter flick.

Ahahahaha BULLSHIZ! Iron Man was the most boring moving I've ever seen. And people don't even know about Iron Man 2 yet. That's totally RIDIKULUS. Harry Potter will shine without a doubt, it's the last movie. It's what the world's been waiting for.

Posted by emmetee Oct 31st 2009

i haven't watched Iron Man 1 and i'm certainly not gonna watch the 2nd one! I thinkk that a change in the HP series will actually be good for the movies, since people who dont read the books may have got tired of the same climax in every movie. HP FTW

Posted by squishifishi Oct 31st 2009

sadly i agree that iron man 2 will be bigger (sadly because i didnt like the first one at all for some reason) but not because of the "change of atmosphere" or whatever. i really didnt get the big thing about iron man,but everybody obsesses over it. i think that HP has died down a bit, but not enough for all us harry potter nerds who are sitting at the computer just waiting for another DH update.

Posted by BriGuy4Life12345 Oct 31st 2009

I disagree! The Iron Man movies are good, but the Harry Potter movies are MUCH better!!!!!!!!!!! HP FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Posted by violinplayer1991 Oct 31st 2009

like honestly it does make sense but you have to realize that harry potter movies has been here for 6 years and every year it has made more money than others movies i do like iron man but i really doubt that it's gonna beat harry potter! HARYY POTTER FOREVER

Posted by SvenMarcel Oct 31st 2009

Okay so their reasoning is that the books are already out and everyone knows what's already happened and that since the action in this movie doesn't take place at Hogwarts for the most part that people won't be as inclined to go see it? Um, hello!!! Did they pay attention to the turn out for Half-Blood Prince? That books been out for several years and yet people still came out to see the cinematic vision of the book. And I know this will shock people but the characters are the main reason for the books, not the school. I think the change in scenery will actually be a good driving force for the movie because we will get the opportunity to see a lot more of the magical world. Times online needs to do more research before they randomly print stories.

Posted by cgeinert Oct 31st 2009

These people obviously don't understand Harry Potter fans at all. Do they really think the fact that we already know what happens will stop us from going to the movie? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. Anyway, I can't take someone who can't even spell the word "artifact" seriously.

Posted by sweetmolly Oct 31st 2009

i dont think so,,,do agree with that.. even though i've read it,but i thought it will more exciting in movie HP FOREVER!!!!

Posted by BellatrixCrucioYou Oct 31st 2009

moaningmyrtle012-haha I agree. reconrider-That could also be true and I was actually thinking that as well... Anyway I highly doubt this is likely. Harry Potter is the biggest franchise in the world. Plus this is the start of the end. I know one thing is for sure, though. DH2 will probably break records....eep I cannot wait for DH2!!!

Posted by HRHTRIO Oct 31st 2009

No. This is absolutely NOT what's happening. Lets see, Twilight, is supposedly "better" than Iron Man. Last year when HBP was SUPPOSED to come out, it was replaced by Twilight...and everyone was, how should i say it, pissed. So just because Iron Man 2 is coming to theaters, that will never mean DH won't be more popular

Posted by MyGypsyCat Oct 31st 2009

I don't agree with the Times Online article. Personally, I am anticipating DH1 (and DH2) more than Iron Man2. After all, IM2 will probably be more about blowing things up where DH1&2 will [continue] to be about relationships and thinking. In the long run, however, I guess all of us will just have to wait and see. Won't we?

Posted by typotter2009 Oct 31st 2009

Ok.....what are the right words? Iron Man is cool yes, but.....I agree with those who have stated that Harry Potter has a bigger FAN BASE!!! Also...its going to be even bigger cause...this is the beginning of the end. Part one and the the Finale...Part 2. Another example...I like the Twilight books and movie, but I know from research and people I talk to that Twilight attracts a certain crowd (Same with Iron Man), the Harry Potter Series has had so much more to offer to everyone. For goodness sake....I saw people of ALL AGES at the Midnight Showing for Half Blood Prince, also Half Blood Prince set many records at the box office this last year. So you know its final movies are going to top it. No matter what movies they face the year they are released. I am so excited for these final two movies. Deathly Hallows reminded me of a dark holocaust. It will be awsome to see that on screen. HARRY POTTER ROCKS!!!

Posted by emma41591 Oct 31st 2009

iron man is a pretty good movie but it is trash compared to what the Deathly Hallows is gonna be! Its just wrong to compare it to HP!!! when Deathly Hallows part 1 gets a million more veiwers thats when theyll know that they were SOOO wrong! HP ROCKS!!!

Posted by RubyRed23 Oct 31st 2009

I think Ironman will definitely be successful, but more than Harry Potter?? Um. Okay, how about let's just all wait to 2010 and see which fanbase really kicks ass. x)

Posted by kalb Oct 31st 2009

Iron Man 1 did over 500 million internationally. My guess is it's going to be neck and neck in 2010 between these two movies. But, Iron Man 2 may suck (ahem... Transformers 2) and it could crap out. HP is a proven commodity and has a strong fan base. I think HP will be the biggest in 2010.

Posted by riddleisourking Oct 31st 2009

Domestically in the U.S. Iron Man 2 will probably be #1. The first one made $318,412,101. Half blood prince made $301,475,004 which is the best showing for any Potter movie since PS/SS. The first sequel to a big blockbuster tends to do better than the first in the box office as people who didn't see the first in theaters saw it on DVD and go to the sequel at the theater. 319,246,193 for first Transformers 402,111,870 for the sequel. Pirates 1 did 305,413,918 Pirates 2 did nearly that much opening weekend domestically. 423,315,812 when it was all said and done.

Posted by clpolly Oct 31st 2009

Can't wait to prove them wrong!!!!

Posted by kalb Oct 31st 2009

Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader is coming out in 2010 as well. It's going to be a good year.

Posted by kalb Oct 31st 2009

The Lightning Thief is coming out in 2010, too. It's going to be a great year. Chris Columbus is directing this, so it will be very good. I still think he was the best director of the HP films.

What utter rubbish! Harry Potter will never be defeated by Iron Man. This series finale is 10 years in the making! Iron Man was a popular movie, but the first one didn't beat any of the Harry Potter records, and a sequel won't do that either. These next to Harry Potter movies will be record breakers, guarenteed. Maybe we could even bump Titanic out of the highest grossing film spot!

Posted by Droopy81 Oct 31st 2009

I love Harry Potter, but the movies have been disappointing at best. The 4th, 5th, and 6th movies have left out so much, I'm not even interested in seeing the 7th. I am going to see it, but I am most certain that I will be disappointed yet again. The actors and the special effects are great, but the directors and the screen writers are what kill the movies for me. I don't understand why they change the best story ever written to fit movie times. If all of the movies would have been 4-5 hours or two parts, so they could fit everything in, I think there would be even more fans and more people would go back and watch the movie several times. But for me, now I only watch it once in the theater and get disappointed and never see it again. For me I just keep re-reading the saga to keep the original story fresh in my head and not let the movies distort what really happens. So I say to all of those people who think the movies are the greatest, you need to go back and re-read the whole saga starting with book one. Then come back and tell me I'm wrong.

Posted by laherm Oct 31st 2009

I can only see the movie being MORE popular than the others, as it is part of the final installment of the series..

Posted by hpfanficfan Oct 31st 2009

Iron Man? Oh please! It's book7!! It's gonna be huge!

Posted by merrymarge Oct 31st 2009

Iron man might not be bigger as far as fans go, but, I wonder how the movie will play out. It's possible that WB will focus many on the big fight that takes place near the end and maybe rush thru the first part. In the beginning, we have the build up of the story line, the trio attends a wedding, they go into hiding, they camp around the country, Ron leaves, comes back, they break into Gringgotts, Harry and Hermione almost die at Godric's Hollow, they find out a bit about Dumbledore's past, then a big wrap-up in part two. Well, I can see how some people will think that the first part will be no big deal. However, loyal Potter fans will turn out no matter what. Go Harry Potter!!!

Posted by tovarbaker Oct 31st 2009

Iron man will be huge people don't get so defensive. although critics annoy the crap out of me when they keep saying that the movies won't do as well because the books have been out for a few years now... that is just rubbish! the box office for the last two films that proven that! we can all agree that Iron Man is a massive hit that is sure to be a successful franchise (spawning at least one more movie) however it is my feeling that the second Iron Man film wont be as great as the first (and it was it kicked butt) simply because it seemed rushed, I will be amazed if the script is close to being as good as the first film... so while it is due to make a killing at the box office I doubt it will be better than DH

Posted by i_am_hermione Oct 31st 2009

how stupid. whoever says iron man will make more money than HARRY POTTER is obviously on floo powder.

Posted by i_killed_sirius_black Oct 31st 2009

that's total bull, there's no possible way that'll happen. harry potter is more widely loved and has been going on for longer. harrypotterforever!!!

Posted by AndrewW Oct 31st 2009

They've got it all backwards. People want to see the end of Harry Potter more than an Iron Man movie. A part of their resoning is that the story is outside of Hogwarts for the entire movie unless there are a few shots of whats going on there. This will have NO effect on who will watch it, it may even increase the number of people who want to see it. Since we have known what is going to happen for such a long time we would obviously want to watch the movie even more. Sure, Iron Man 2 will be popular but not compared to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 or 2. The final part could even beat Titanic and thats not easy.

Posted by Mottocat Oct 31st 2009

I think DH definitely has a chance at the top. It will at least be in the top 5!! Iron man isn't as good as Potter though.

Posted by tduboff Oct 31st 2009

I find it funny that no one has really responded to the few people that are using facts to analyze this. I have no doubt that internationally, DH will be on top. But domestically, there is a HUGE chance that Iron Man will do better. The HP Films have done amazingly well, but none of them has--nor ever will--make more than the first one. Additionally, Iron Man made $318,412,101, while HBP made $301,475,004. Now with the right amount of hype and marketing, the expectation for Iron Man 2 will be able to reach astronomical levels, possibly similar to the build up to Dark Knight. If you look at similar movies, the first sequel almost always does better: Dark Knight made 300 million more than Batman Begins, Transformers 2 made almost 100 million more than Transformers, Pirates 2 made over 100 million more than Pirates 1. Also, many of you aren't realizing the effect it being a "Part 1" will have on box office sales. As much as we love to think of ourselves as unstoppable, by next year the casual fans will be even less crazily enthused and overall general interest might die down slightly (Part 2 will be totally different, however). One last thing: this is coming out in NOVEMBER, the less-successful fall/winter season, when Iron Man is coming out in MAY, the blockbuster mega-hit season.

Posted by fredXgeorge Oct 31st 2009

LOL! You've got to be kidding me...Iron Man beat DH? No way!

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 31st 2009

HELL NO I DONT AGREE!! Iron Man 2 might make more in the US...but Deathly Hallows is going to SLAY the box office Worldwide. All of the HP movies are in the TOP 25 highest grossing films of all time and Iron Man isn't even in the top 20 to my knowledge! So Times Online has lost their minds!

Posted by iwantorlando05 Oct 31st 2009

I'm shocked that they didn't at least have the deceny put Alice in Wonderland as number one...they chose Iron Man 2?! Now if it was a batman or spiderman movie...maybe, but NOT Iron Man.

Posted by fuckyou Oct 31st 2009

DH1 will deff take 2010 but in 2011 its DH2 vs Hobbit1 i wonder....

Posted by sarah1228 Oct 31st 2009

Ok I totally disagree with what they are saying. Do they know how many people are in love with the harry potter books and movies. I don't think there has ever been a year when a harry potter movie came that it was the biggest movie of the year. Don't underestimate the power of over obsessive fans like me and my friends. We will make these new harry potter movies the biggest of their years.

Posted by DrWimsey Oct 31st 2009

It will be just like this year, when Transformers 2 sold 33% more tickets than Prince did because of the popularity & success of the first Transformers film. Iron Man was more popular than Transformers (by a long shot) and even sold more tickets. (IM sold more tickets than either of the last 2 Harry Potter films, too.) Because of Iron Man's popularity, Iron Man 2 will get a huge bump from converts from rentals, etc. So, Iron Man 2 will easily sell as many tickets as Transformers 2 did, which will be at least 55M tickets. DH1 will get a good return from Prince plus a bump from the holidays, but it probably will not sell as many tickets as Goblet. So, IM2 will sell about 10 million more tickets than DH1, which probably will be good for 75 million more dollars or more.

Posted by DrWimsey Oct 31st 2009

I would also add that Toy Story 3 might equal DH1. The two Toy Story films were incredibly popular, and the 2nd film sold more tickets than any HP film other than Stone. It's a bit of a dark horse, but do not discount the possibility.

Posted by morsmordre79 Oct 31st 2009

I've never been into Iron Man, but it is definately a possibility, at least domestically in the US. However, I agree with Dr. Wimsey...Toy Story 3 will get a lot of popularity. Never underestimate the power of Pixar, lol. Internationally, though, I don't think anything stands a chance against HP.

Posted by hpintwense06 Oct 31st 2009

Ehhhh... I think HP could be number one, as long as we all go see it! I mean, I never even saw Iron Man 1, so why would I want to see Iron Man 2?

Posted by DrWimsey Nov 1st 2009

More people saw Iron Man 1 than saw Order or Prince. So, there are a lot more people who will say: "I never even saw the last couple of Harry Potter films, so why would I want to see Harry Potter 12 or whatever it is?"

Posted by TheGreatSeventh Nov 1st 2009

Read 'em and weep: Iron Man $318,412,101 Half-Blood Prince $301,475,004 Source: boxofficemojo.com

Posted by Janey Nov 1st 2009

WTF?! Iron Man?! Are they serious?! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. There is no way Iron Man is going to be larger than DH. Absolutely not! God, that is so stupid!!

Posted by Slytherin15 Nov 1st 2009

It could be the largest film if they kept it as one movie, not two....

Posted by metalmusic99 Nov 1st 2009

Don't get me wrong I'm excited about Iron Man 2 but I'm not nearly as excited for it as I am Deathly Hallows. It's going to blow Iron Man 2 out of the water. Being one of the last HP films (and based on the last book), millions will flock to see it opening week. Don't get me wrong, Iron Man 2 will be very popular, however, it definitely will not be as popular as Deathly Hallows. And on a side note, I think Part II of Deathly Hallow may even pass up Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time. Now, none of this really matters to me, but I'm just giving my opinion.

Posted by harrypotterlovegirl100 Nov 1st 2009

I dant believe it HP will always be a top movie even years from now

Posted by vertuniahaha Nov 1st 2009

We'll show them, don't you worry!

Posted by marisky130 Nov 1st 2009

I saw HBP in theatres multiple times. I watched the trailer over and over, and yet I've never seen Iron Man. I have a blog devoted to movie reviews and yet I haven't seen it. It's so similar to other things that are already out!

Posted by chommy Nov 1st 2009

Deathly Hallows beat Titanic? Not gonna happen, guys, that's extremely unlikely. DH2 will probably get the same amount as PS/SS. People want to see how a story starts and how it ends. And Iron Man 2 might get more domestically, but overall (worldwide), DH1 will get more money.

Posted by DARKIRONPOTTER Nov 1st 2009

Iron Man 2 is gonna get better reviews. Iron Man is my fave film, and HP is my favorite book series. DH pt 1 will make a lot of money, i noe that. But Iron Man is amazing, no doubt.

I tell you, that dragon's the most horrible animal I've ever met, but the way Hagrid goes on about it, you'd think it was a fluffly little bunny rabbit. When it bit me, he told me off for frightening it. And when I left, he was singing it a lullaby.
