Deathly Hallows won't be the largest film of 2010?
Deathly Hallows won't be the largest film of 2010? According to Times Online, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 won't be the biggest film of 2010. They believe Iron Man 2 will be the biggest. Here's the reasoning for why Deathly Hallows won't take the top spot:

Part one of the final Harry Potter movie. Part two will follow in July 2011. Devoted fans have known what happens in the story since 2007; for newcomers, Harry and his pals Ron and Hermione search for some magical artefacts called Horcruxes. The plot takes the trainee wizards out of Hogwarts for much of the movie, resulting in a marked change of atmosphere compared to its predecessors.

Do you agree with Times Online? We sure don't! The Harry Potter franchise is the greatest earning franchise of all time, and a second Iron Man certainly won't earn more than a Potter flick.

their opinion....CODSWALLOP!!!! !! (imo!) i never went to see IM1..what makes "them" think i'm going to see IM2?? Now, i've seen all the HP movies to date at least twice in the movie theater. What are the odds that I will be in a movie theater watching DH pt 1 and pt 2?!?!?!?!?!? more than 1000%!

Posted by luckyasfelix Nov 1st 2009

although i love comic books, and there movies, i love harry potter more and its the ending it'll be bigger!

Posted by hatef69 Nov 1st 2009

pffff...what rubbish! Harry Potter ROCKS!

Posted by harrypottertweak Nov 1st 2009

Lol... these guys are joking right? They have got to be because everyone knows HP is HUGE and loves of people hated Iron Man. They have seriously got to be kidding. DH without a doubt will be the biggest film of 2010. Those people seriously should not even be comparing Iron Man to Harry Potter.

Posted by Davidaccio Nov 1st 2009

This prediction wasn't made by Trelawny so accuracy is highly doubtful.

Posted by PaigeThePoltergeist Nov 1st 2009

well look at what happened with things like Monsters vs. Aliens and GForce! Iron Man was HUGE and now you have Iron Man 2! Dh might not make as much because a lot of the fans HAVE already read the books and are just like "whatever i'll see the movie later" -or- "The Movies suck" Sure a lot of people would be pumped and will go but Iron man.... hmmmm. I HOPE HP beats out gay Iron Man. If it were Hp DH pt 2 that might be a different story

Are you kiding me??? HP6 broke midnight box office records, and now, were talking about the LAST BOOK HERE PEOPLE. I know for sure Im securing my spot at a midnight showing by buying my tickets ahead of time. Iron Man is nothing compared to this. The brilliant plot of this film, let alone the great cast and crew, will sucure a spot in history. Harry Potter fans remain loyal, and after HP6, this is sure to one of the best movies EVER made... :)

2/3 of the comments here are something like "We love HP so much and I didnt see Iron Man and this is the last book so of course it'll make more than Iron Man 2 because we're the best fans and we're gonna see it 20 times!!" And then there's the scattered comments that are trying to use REASON and FACTS to reach a conclusion. Let's look at these facts, shall we? First one: Iron Man made more money than EVERY SINGLE HP MOVIE except the Sorcerer's Stone. Fact 2: Sequels to a movie that popular and that well-liked usually do BETTER than the original. Don't think that's true? The latest sequel to a superhero movie did so well it caused the DELAY of a HP movie. The thing is, there are many fans that don't like the HP movies, and there will be people for whom the book is enough (and is better than any movie version). Of course we as fans will come out in droves, but with Iron Man 2, if it's hyped up enough, it will be the best, newest way to experience it, as opposed to HP which already has the same story in existence and told in the best way possible, in book form. So please people, stop sounding stupid and saying stuff like "We're the greatest fandom EVVERRRRRR" and "They're so stupid, HP is the greatest, nothing can be better, who cares about Iron Man? DH is gonna destroy." Those comments are based on nothing but our own fanaticism, and we need to be realistic that DH might not be the highest grossing domestic movie next year (internationally, it very well could be).

Iron Man 2 will do better then Harry Potter in the USA but Harry Potter is too big outside the USA so Potter wins there. I just think Potter has been here longer. The United States love comic movies so Iron Man 2 will do better and Iron Man 2 was really good.

Posted by Twilighterpotter Nov 2nd 2009

Plus I'm too excited about New Moon and getting to meet the cast to worry about this or think about it.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Nov 2nd 2009

HBP was the highest grossing film of this year and it wasn't even the last one!! Times online is crazy!

Posted by chommy Nov 2nd 2009

tduboff: Iron Man only made more domestically. Worldwide, HP killed it. But why are we talking domestic? Yes, it's important, but I'd rather look at worldwide, because I think it's more important to see how good a movie did everywhere, not just the US.

Posted by phoenixknighter Nov 2nd 2009

I agree with your REASONING tduboff .... But IMH, If DH Part 1 and 2 DON'T Make more money than EVERY SINGLE movie coming out that same year.. then the END OF THE WORLD BY 2012 will really come true then.

Posted by Okirun Nov 2nd 2009

I dunno, Iron Man is pretty awesome, AND it's a superhero comic so it does have a wide fanbase. I think it might be able to take HP. Although I guess it doesn't really matter, they'll both make a ton I'm sure. I'll definitely be contributing equally to both.

Posted by heathlestrange Nov 2nd 2009

i would of thought alice in wonderland would be at the very top, second harry potter!

Posted by riddleisourking Nov 2nd 2009

why are we talking domestic totals? Because thats what the article in the magazine was referring to....

Posted by phoenixfriendly Nov 2nd 2009

"...Devoted fans have known what happens in the story since 2007;" I'm sorry....but how is that logical? People knew for DECADES how Lord of the Rings was going to end...yet people still made it the second largest grossing movie ever. Fail, Time Magazine. You fail.

Posted by davdog92 Nov 2nd 2009

Oh please, the second to last Harry Potter movie ever??? This is going to be one of the top-grossing films in history, perhaps only second to DH2. No way is Iron Man going to beat it!

Posted by sleeper9 Nov 2nd 2009

I don't get how this makes sense. We knew what happened in book 6 for a long time to so how would this be any different.

Posted by Peevsie Nov 2nd 2009

Um, yeah right. Harry all the way.

Posted by iwantorlando05 Nov 3rd 2009

The first Iron Man isn't even in the TOP 50 highest grossing films of all time!! And they think it's the most anticipated! PUH-LEAZE!! All 6 HP films are in the TOP 25!

Posted by mollie_moo Nov 4th 2009

iron man! yeah its a good film but harry potter beets it by miles!!!! i mean iron man hasnt had a film in ages nd now it expects to comeback on top! nothing but nothing beats harry potter HE'S THE BOY WHO LIVED!!! whats iron man, omg THE MAN MADE OF METAL oh i think i just wet myself of exitment NOT!

Posted by phoenixknighter Nov 4th 2009

NOW GUYS, WE CAN ALL AGREE IF IT WERE THE SEQUEL TO THE DARK KNIGHT, IT WOULD MURDER HARRY POTTER... BUT IRON MAN?????

Posted by xmoondustx Nov 4th 2009

Oh, come on! Iron Man will NEVER beat Harry Potter. End of!

Posted by Pirate99 Nov 5th 2009

I am a big fan of Iron Man, but comparing the fan base to Harry Potter is just stupid. Iron Man 2 is one of the biggest releases in 2010 but Harry Potter should be #1 on the list!

Posted by WordNerd014 Nov 5th 2009

ridiculous I don't even know what that's about. and it was a song first. (and we ALL know the movie is never as good as the song! :p)

Posted by bridgetmalfoy Nov 5th 2009

I couldn't agree more with this. The fan base for Harry Potter is MASSIVE, compared to Iron Man :nods: Plus we've been waiting for #7 for years, which is bound to result in a huge turnout. I'm not hating on Iron Man... I love the movie. But you just can't compare the two.

Posted by Im_No_Muggle Nov 6th 2009

What? I think it will definately be #1! No Iron Man can beat Harry Potter!

Posted by Superem77 Nov 8th 2009

Iron Man?! Hahaha! NOT A CHANCE! That's a load of garbage! Iron Man wasn't even that good. And how long have fans been waiting for that? How long have us Harry Potter fans been waiting?
