Wizarding World of HP competition winners posted
Wizarding World of HP competition winners posted On episode 181 of our podcast MuggleCast, we introduced our "Wizarding World of RollerCoaster Tycoon" contest, where listeners could construct a Harry Potter-themed amusement park using the popular video game RollerCoaster Tycoon by Chris Sawyer. Listeners were permitted to use the additional two expansion packs and the contest ran approximately one month, ending on Thursday, October 29th. We have now posted our top five theme parks and a runner-up. Also, each theme park is available for download as a save-game file (but you will need the video game and/or expansion packs to play). Thank you to everyone who entered! Visit the theme park contest page right here!

Wow! All of those are freaking awesome!! But I definitely love the first place one the best. I would have entered one but I don't have Tycoon. I used to and I was adicted to it. I am gonna have my dad put it back on our computer. Great job and Happy Halloween and PotterDay ;)

That's freakin' AWESOME! It takes a butt load of talent to do something like that. I just wish I had Rollercoaster Tycoon! I love them all but I think the 3rd one is my favorite! :D

Wonderful contest idea, Eric. The results you got were certainly outstanding. I wanted to enter the contest myself, and I have the RCT program on my computer, but I haven't been able to find my disk in ages. Anyway, congrats to all who won! Very, very creative minds indeed.

They all look very good! Wish I coould've entered but I was so busy with school work. Congrats to all!

That was so funny on mugglecast when they only had 1 entry so far and eric was like "well we have one entry from jennifer... so the winner so far is... jennifer." i lol'd.

Cool, but, I can't wait for the real Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

To be honest, I didn't think this was that great a contest, simply because of limiting it to save files from such an old (by video games standards) game. Considering it's not something you can really buy in stores anymore. I understand why they limited it because I'm sure Eric doesn't want to go out and buy the latest version just to view the files from newer games, but I think keeping it to the original severely limited the ability of listeners to enter the contest. Great contest idea in theory but not the greatest in execution. Good try though Eric!

anakinjmt-- What I got out of this was a chance to try my hand at detail and test my knowledge of the Harry Potter books. It made me pull out my books more than once, and I discovered that making details can be fun. It took me 16 (fantasy) years, but I finished a park and didn't object to the contest!

Oh darn...I didn't win. How many people entered? I wish they'd at least recognize everyone who did. But I'm sure these are amazing.

i wish there was also for roller coaster tycoon 2....

It's too bad that absolutely NONE of the download links work!

Posted by Collx3sHP Nov 1st 2009

Those are all pretty sweet!

Posted by Padfoot777 Nov 1st 2009

Aw, man!!! I wish I had seen this contest when it was open! I have LOADS of different HP related theme parks in my games! :(

Posted by Professor_Tofty Nov 1st 2009

Wow! An amazing idea! This contest was genius! I have all of the RCT 1,2 and 3 games but unfortunately RCT1 won't play for me on Vista, even with compatibility settings turned on... if anyone knows how, please do tell!

Posted by DebsScott Nov 1st 2009

Do the links work for anyone? I'd love to download them for my game, but all I get is an error message. HELP!

Posted by Anapneo Nov 1st 2009

The download links won't work for me either!

Posted by ActingDude17 Nov 1st 2009

Well crap. I just found my disk. I could have entered the contest. =( Oh well. I'm still going to create my own park just for the fun of it! Perhaps MuggleNet could add even more fan-made parks (non-contest entries too, now that it's over) to the page as we get progressively closer to the opening of the park. Just an idea. =D

Shoot. I wish I'd paid more attention. I created custom Harry Potter scenery for Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 a few years ago. A few screenshots and downloads are available here: http://www.rctmart .com/downloads/harrypotte r.php

Congrats, Tony, and great job on your park. Working version, eh? What do you mean by that?

Posted by TonyGman Nov 1st 2009

I mean the links posted here don't work, as said by several comments here..

Posted by Eric Nov 1st 2009

I'm working on making it easier, but as of now if you right click and hit "Save As," as done in other instances on this site, it works. Just make sure to save as "all files." It's kind of an obscure file extension. I'm sorry that it's not working easily.

Posted by TonyGman Nov 1st 2009

Ok I figured it out. The simplest way is to save it to the desktop, and when loading a save file on the game just search at the desktop location to load it. When done, save it to the default save location for RCT. Then the desktop file can be deleted as to not crowd up unnecessary icons.

Posted by Eric Nov 1st 2009

Additionally I believe the default folder for save games is C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\Rollercoaster Tycoon\Saved Games\. Thanks Tony!

Awesome I got fourth place, considering what the top 3 were i`m pretty happy with that. Congrats to all the other winners.
