Rowling's thoughts of the trio at press conference in 2000
Rowling's thoughts of the trio at press conference in 2000 In a press conference back in 2000, producer David Heyman read a note from J.K. Rowling sharing her thoughts on the casting of Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as the trio.

WB has released a new video of the press conference to promote the Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets Ultimate Collector's editions.

"Having seen Dan Radcliffe's screen test, I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry. I am also delighted to see that we're going to have a screen Ron and Hermione who can bicker as if they'd been doing it all their lives. Chris's choice of three wonderful British actors for the leading roles shows how well he understands the spirit of these books. I wish Dan, Emma, and Rupert the very best of luck, and hope they have as much fun acting the first year at Hogwarts as I had writing it," Rowling said.

Thanks to Snitch Seeker!

That's so sweet of JKR! I love what she said about the trio being cast. It's very true. They could not have chosen three actors who are better for the role than Dan, Rupert, and Emma. They're amazing and they've grown into even more amazing young adults.

awwwww... Dan is so adorable! I am still impressed that the three of them are able to be so grounded after all this fame and publicity- they seem like really great people. Chris Columbus did an amazing casting job! I have a new found respect for him after watching this- though I personally didn't like the first 2 movies, he really did get a sense of the books and what they're all about, and set the whole HP franchise off to a great start (and he directed RENT- awesome movie!). Thank you Chris!!! And again- Dan is SO FREAKING CUTE!!!!!!!

Very nice of Jo to say that. There couldn't be any three better actors for the job, and they work together amazingly. All this news just gets me more hyped for the Ultimate Edition DVDs!

Haha : ) That sure was a while ago!! : )

Aaaw, wow, that was so long ago. XD;; I remember seeing the very first picture of the trio back in like 8th grade. Wow, it's been forever. Forever and it's still not over!!

Posted by the_opaleye Nov 17th 2009

So true so true. I love the Trio. They're great. I still remember reading the newspaper article with the first picture of Dan, Emma and Rupert when I was like 10. I was so excited and I remember thinking how they looked exactly as I had imagined the characters. Especially Dan. He is EXACTLY how I imagined Harry. Wow. That's nearly ten years ago. How time has flown...

Thats pretty awesome, but did everyone else also notice that she did have a very good time writing the first book due to barely having a house and it being rejected yet she says "...and hope they have as much fun acting the first year at Hogwarts as I had writing it,"

if there's ONE thing that Chris Columbus did RIGHT.. it's choosing the trio for the cast.

Posted by Menelaos Nov 17th 2009

That's the sweet nostalgia trigger!!! huh??

Posted by phoenixknighter Nov 17th 2009

oh well.. i'm a lil bit nostalgic.. but Chris Columbus was still the Worst director of the HP series. But it was good he started it on a mediocre level, so it could GROW into the Harry Potter ppl love now ;)

Posted by Im_No_Muggle Nov 17th 2009

phoenixknighter, Chris Columbus was an excellent director! The first HP films are great in my opinion!

Posted by phoenixknighter Nov 17th 2009

Oh you do I'm_No_Muggle?.. It's just that majority of people frequently bash Columbus, and they're not wrong for doing that TBH.. Mind you, i Loved the 1st film, it's a classic. The 2nd film was very FORCED.. the "funny" scenes were very lame and cringe-worthy, and alot of the acting was just mediocre (since the adult actors were told to tone down their acting skills for the first 2 films, being that the children are the main characters) and the story was mechanical. I remember at the time i was in 7th grade and ALL of my friends thought harry Potter was "Gay and Nerdy".. when we all watched the film, i felt so embarrassed how much they made in fun of the movie, because i didn't like it myself, lol. I would've rather listened to Jim Dale read Chamber of Secrets out loud than me watching it, cuz i felt like I was watching the book, which is not a good thing. The first 2 films, while being faithful, seemed to be Slaves of their own adaptation, trying to live up to the books but coming close. Anyway enough of my rant, those films came out YEARS ago.. I'm just glad we're getting the Ultimate Edition.. i should get it during the summer though. I can wait.

Posted by phoenixknighter Nov 17th 2009

oops sorry don't mean to write too much, but i meant the first 2 movies while being slavishly faithful, were not even close to the books, not coming close, lol

Posted by Roxy2005 Nov 17th 2009

Once again this confirms to me Dan was meant to play Harry just as with Gone with the Wind there was only one to play Charlete O' Harra (how ever you spell the name) Anyways, I am glad to see how all 3 of these actors have stayed level headed and to not have become "deva" stars. Good Job, Guys :) Oh by the way C. Columbus did a great job no matter what anyone else says here. :P

best trio ever!!!

Posted by MrPoe Nov 17th 2009

@Phoenixknightrider: What are you talking about? Chris Columbus was a GREAT director. Just what needed to start the series off with. He actually got the same feel as the book. And he's deffinately the only one who truly understood the characters and the whole world itself. David Yates was definitely the worst director with OotP, not so much with HBP, though he still doesn't know shizz about the Potter world. Cauron was the best, definitely. Mike Newell was just okay, but GoF was pretty forgettable though, just like OotP, but not as much as OotP.
