HBP mistake fixed
In the first editions of Half-Blood Prince, an error discovered in "An Excess of Phlegm" stated that Hermione received one Exceeds Expectations and ten Outstanding grades in her OWLs. However, she only took ten subjects. Our Potter Encyclopedia had staggered a guess that she took the "Muggle Studies exam and passed it with top marks despite dropping the subject at the end of her third year."

Now, HarryLatino.com reports that this was indeed a genuine error and has been rectified in recent editions of Book 6; it now reads she earned nine Os and one EE. Phew!

so hermione is not perfect. it is the enf of a myth lol. the fact that hermione quit one subject and hasn't got best marks in one subject make sure she's not perfect, and for the next book, that fill me with happiness. all of the perfect people in the books have turn nasty or dead. spoiler: i recognise 4 generations in the books, the generation of dumbledore, the one of voldemort, the one of the potter, evans, rogue, black, pettigrew and lupin and the last one, the generation of the potter's son, harry. dumbledore was killed voldemort become a dark mage the potter (and one of the evans then) die black die pettigrew and rogue are death eater and lupin is a werewolf in the last generation, malfoy is a bad guy. who will be the next to turn dead or for the wrong side, we'll wait till book seven to know. if hermione, althought she quit a subject and missed another, stay the best witch of her generation, i rather see her become like dumbledore than like voldemort or die.

...I wonder how many people on this web site do not, or have not in the past (that really sucks kaleygurl) owned an original copy of HBP. How many of us have lined up for the release of the book, or at least, got it the day it came out? How many of us counted down the days, hours, minuets, seconds, you hold, feel, touch, hug, and of course, read the contents of that book? I'm sure that most of us really DO own a messed up version, and hold it high in teh air for the rest of the world to see, love, adore, and then basically make fun of you for being such a Harry Potter dork. =D Congradulations guys, we do an outstanding job!

whoa.

Posted by Littlemisssophie04 Aug 28th 2006

Finally! That has been troubling me ever since I read it those words the 41 minutes after I got it!!! ..................just kidding:) never noticed that before...but thats pretty cool for someone who did.

Posted by mischiefmanaged Aug 28th 2006

Ohh I was wondering about that ... LOL. Haha I am one of those who have the original version! ^^

Posted by GorgeousGinnyxoxoxox Aug 28th 2006

Posted by JarlinFo07 Aug 28th 2006

All right. OK. That's interesting news. But when are going to get some dang big news about book 7!?!

Posted by x3bandgeek Aug 28th 2006

I noticed that and it drove me mad because I couldn't figure out that other class. I think I had asked people too. Thank God I am not that mental!

Posted by DecemberDrops Aug 28th 2006

Kaleygurl: My first copy of HBP is in thirds ... but it will always be very special to me!

Posted by DADARULES Aug 28th 2006

great i got the wrong one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gosh.......... why is it always me????

Posted by AloysiusWeasley Aug 28th 2006

Gee - I suppose I have no life! Over on LJ, we'd already made theories on why Hermione had one extra! I have two copies of the "mistake" HBP, since a friend got me one a week after it came out, not knowing I'd gone to a midnight party on release date! ^_^ Like the wand mistake, I find things like these really annoying - it makes us waste so much time on theory-mongering on editor errors! Here's to the idea of having fans proof-read the books for things like these! (I know I wouldn't quit THAT job! ;)

Posted by dobbyroxmysox Aug 28th 2006

i didnt notice that when i read it..

Posted by emmafan18 Aug 28th 2006

Thats great! I never noticed that!!

Posted by quidditch_girl93 Aug 28th 2006

Posted by gummybearlily Aug 28th 2006

HEY HERMIONE IS COOL! GIVE HER O BACK!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Julied112 Aug 28th 2006

I have the one with the mistake, and I noticed it, so did my mom when she read it, but I ignored it. I also have the OOTP where the wand order is messed up. Sigh, oh well, I know what the facts are, even if the book doesn't say it.

Posted by potterchick Aug 28th 2006

never noticed it

Posted by littleleelou Aug 28th 2006

im not to slick i didnt even realize, but whatever. my be the book will be worth more money later on because it has the mistake. that would rock

Posted by xony Aug 28th 2006

Awww, a mention to HarryLatino... I made some great friends in its forum *tear* xD

Posted by Chrisell Aug 28th 2006

I knew it! I even wrote on a forum that it was JK's math gone askew again.

Posted by flamdrag Aug 29th 2006

I just figured she got her hands on the time turner again and took an extra exam.

Posted by harryprox4eva Aug 29th 2006

Also noticed it... and I still think Hermione ought to have gotten an O in DADA too - Harry might be better than her, but there's no reason she couldn't have gotten a lesser O! And on a related note: Percy must have used a time-turner to get his twelve OWLs.

Posted by harryprox4eva Aug 29th 2006

Yeah, I wondered that about Percy and the 12 OWLs too...I also think Hermione should've gotten an O in DADA - JKR probably wanted to emphasise that Harry was better, but I'm sure we could all just agree on that without giving Hermione a lower GRADE...like, Dumbledore would've gotten Os on his NEWTs, but so did Dawlish and we still know who's better (OK extreme example, but still)...and you know in OOTP how Hermione says that Harry did better in the 3rd yr DADA exam? That's only cos she'd never fought a Boggart before, and Harry had had heaps of practice!!! If she'd had a chance in class like almost everyone else did, she'd have gotten full marks! *Rants*

Posted by harryprox4eva Aug 29th 2006

Oops...I didn't see the second page...thought it just wasn't letting me post cos the system was screwy or sth...:$

Posted by Rommel Aug 29th 2006

er-i never noticed it.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Aug 29th 2006

Thank God they fixed it. Now I can sleep through the night again.

Posted by bookishballerina Aug 29th 2006

i've beeen saying that was the key to the series all along, you know

Posted by j0thepenguin Aug 29th 2006

It did seem like more to me when I read it, but I was too lazy to count all her classes. Cool, it's always fun to have the book with the mistake in it. I have the GoF with the mixed up death order thing w/lily and james

Posted by TheWordsUnspoken Aug 29th 2006

as much as i love harry potter i do not have the time to analyze every sentence printed... :( in other words "i didn't notice" :D

Posted by mister_mcgonagall Aug 29th 2006

I'm really glad they fixed that, because I actually did notice that. *pats self on back*

Posted by jkgirl Aug 29th 2006

I noticed that.

Posted by loonz Aug 29th 2006

"nine O's"...LOL. being kinda perverted something else comes to mind reading that... :P but yea i never noticed that mistake at all. im not the one to figure out careful things like that

Posted by Silverswan Aug 29th 2006

Wow. How could JK miss that?? I'm disappointed.

Posted by kruzz5 Aug 29th 2006

In response to MrsRoonilWazlib She indeed started for the 12, but had to drop Mugglestudies, and felt Trelawney was a fraud. It makes me wonder though, how did the others do it without a timeturner? And for that matter, how is it in book one Hagrid said both Harry's mom and dad were Head Boy and Girl in their time, and yet in book 5 we learn that Harry's dad was never prefect, and that prefect is the first step. Can Quidditch captain be a precursor for Head Boy, because in book six Hermione tells Harry that being captain gives him equal status with prefects, that he can use their special bathroom and everything.????

Posted by kruzz5 Aug 29th 2006

It is not just on her report either, Ron tells her "...when you've got your eleven Outstanding OWLS..."on page 100 of the early American releases

Posted by MuggleMage Aug 29th 2006

I never knew that mistake existed until...oh 2 minutes ago? I am such a dedicated fan!!!!!! ^_^

Posted by Agetha_Shelly Aug 30th 2006

I better buy one before there`s a callback on the 6th book copys that are at the stores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) ^_^ :-3) if you tilt ur head it looks like a guy with a mustash

Posted by redhead Aug 31st 2006

SO WHAT I HAVE BOOK SIX WITH THE MISTAKE. IT TELLS THAT SOMETIME PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKE WHEN THEY WRITE A BOOKS OR ANY OTHER THING AND DON'T READ THOW IT TO SEE IT THEY WOULD TO TAKE SOME OUT OR PUT SOME IN THE STORY OR LETTERS.

Posted by Dancer_1021 Aug 31st 2006

haha now i am gonna go read HBP againn!! to see that, but i got mine at midnight, so its one of the early ones! haha! funny how it took them more than a year!

Posted by sweetcho Sep 1st 2006

So, I'm a little bit confused...I thought JKR did that on purpose: Well Hermione got every subject that Harry and Ron had but Divination. Without Divination that makes 8 subjects. But instead of that she got Ancient Runes, Arithmancy and Numerology, doesn't that make a total number of 11 subjects??? Please help me out of that dilemma...

Posted by phudlmb Sep 3rd 2006

Why fuss about that one, when there are thousands more/ One simple example; in HP5, Sirius yells "take Neville and run!" How does he know Neville's name?
