RAB revealed?
Following the release of the sixth Harry Potter book, rumors have been abuzz concerning the identity of RAB, the mysterious character who left a note in the cave in the novel's closing chapters. So far, JK has remained relatively tight-lipped on the subject, although she said Regulus Black, Sirius' brother, was a "fine guess" in the MN/TLC interview last summer. Subsequently, (highlight)-->"Arcturus"<-- was suggested by fans as the late Death Eater's middle name after the name of a certain star.
Now, the Portuguese HP translator, Isabel Nunes, has reportedly confirmed this in an interview with a Portuguese fan site. Apparently, before Book 6 hit shelves, she contacted Jo about the character's gender, and was told the full name as well as the gender. Her reason for shedding light on the topic at this point is to "keep awake" the excitement for the seventh book. In the past, Nunes also clarified that Blaise Zabini is a man and Professor Sinistra is a woman.
EDIT: Some readers have written in letting us know that the interview where Nunes said this was conducted last November - you can see it here, page 15. Also, according to commenter Ismara, "A translator doesn't have to sign a contract of confidentiality... Translators can share that type of information as long as it's public. If JKR told her the middle name and the gender, it's public information." Jo hasn't confirmed or denied this - let's hope she doesn't so as to leave room for more conjecture - but take that for what you will!

i know it was him. jk also told us that it was not a new character. i hope its him then my guess would be correct. but why can't she publish the book now!. i really can't wait.
I'm currently reading SS in Portugues and I had some thought I wish to share. I didn't read all 300 comments and i don't know who will read this but for all those who are sceptical about the Portuguese article consider this: 1st, for all those who question if JK would reveal such an important piece of info you're probably right, but the translators asked the EDITORS and they are the ones who responded. 2nd, while I am not entirely familiar with the publication "Diario Economico" it seems to be a economy and bussiness magazine, not a British tabloid. They seem less likely to print something that couldn't be factually verified. 3rd the woman credited with leaking the name has little reason to lie. Her job is to translate the books. Making a false statement of such magnitude (at least for Potter fans) would likely jeopardize her possibilities of translating future Rowling books. personally I'm inclined to believe she's telling the truth and up till now I flat out refused to believe that Regulus was RAB. just some food for thought.
Because there is a preponderance of evidence for the practice of passing wizarding family names down through generations, it is possible that Regulus’ middle name is Alphard, the late uncle to Regulus and Sirius, the very uncle from whom Sirius inherited enough gold to buy a home for himself. Presumably, Alphard was in good graces within the Black family and was not erased from the Black family tree tapestry until after his death and Sirius’ resulting inheritance; so for Regulus to have received Alphard as a middle name at birth is not terribly far-fetched. That the derivation of the name Alphard is from a star at the heart of the snake in the celestial constellation Hydra is especially significant when one takes into consideration the Black dynastic obsession with all things Slytherin and snake-like. Alphard would have been loved and prized at his own birth as another pureblooded wizard in the spirit of Slytherin House. His immediate family would not have disowned him until he gave them reason to do so. His posthumous generosity toward Sirius, the rejected black (pun intended) sheep, the ejected son, would have been just cause for Alphard’s own rejection by the rest of the family.
I am very surprised and annoyed with the fact that so few people bothered to check the original article, including Ciaran, who posted the news with so many mistakes in translation! First the fact that the translator is a woman, would have been evident just by the picture that accompanies the article. I translated it from Portuguese to English via BabelFish, and it is possible to understand the article. Nowhere does Dra Nunes says that she got the information directly from Jo. She is very careful to point out that there in NO DIRECT COMMUNICATION with the author and that she got the information from the agents. She says that she got the information as she contacted the agents about the sex of RAB, as she had done before in the case of Prof. Sinistra and Blaise Zabini, and that together with the sex the note said name of the character. Also she did not say that she was giving out the information to keep awake the excitement for book seven.
i think its sires brother!!!!! but u never no in this world i mean this could be 1 of thouse misleading things
