JKR-donated book on eBay
Jo Rowling recently donated a new, autographed copy of Half-Blood Prince to the Helen Ritson Trust Fund, a charity that benefits underprivileged children. You can now bid for the book on eBay, but note that the auction will close in three days.

That is so cool! I would LOVE to have signed copies...I would definitely take care of them as I hope to be a writer/librarian...(not like Mdm. Pince, though! :) I know! I'm so jealous of UK citizens! Not that I want her to take time off from her family/book 7, but I would definitely ask her to come over to the US sometime (soon?) for more book signings. How about Omaha, it's in the middle of the country, so travel wouldn't be expensive, and hotels aren't as expensive as other cities, I checked. Omaha NE. PLEASE JO?

I hate homework... Yay Mugglenet! Good distraction. Sure, I'll buy the book...

How nice Jo, man, I'd love to have that book! Current bid is 820 euros! Couldn't afford it, but congrats to whoever gets it!...lucky

Posted by sugarquill4 Oct 23rd 2006

Wow, this book is going to cost a lot before the auction is over. Wish I could get it though.

Posted by Lord_Voldy Oct 23rd 2006

wow...ebay?!? not what i'd expect after her fight against them...

Posted by laetri Oct 23rd 2006

I set in a bid to go in at the last minute I hope it will be enough

Posted by brainypenguin Oct 23rd 2006

Why does this look a little fishy? The other two items that the seller has are vehicles, one of which the person is selling "on behalf of a friend." The page is not terribly well done with a notable misspelling. It seems odd to me, but perhaps I am just a cynic.

Posted by oldest3 Oct 23rd 2006

Thats so sweet of JKR. I'm not going to bid though because first I have no money and I already have that book

Posted by witch_in_training Oct 23rd 2006

I could use my college scholarship... No! No! Must... Resist... the... temptation!

Posted by weaselette Oct 24th 2006

Wow, it'd be cheaper for me to fly over to her house and make her sign a book. I could hold Dobby ransom... Shame it's so expensive. 900 pounds is like 2000 dollars Australian right?

**ATTENTION ALL MUGGLENETERS** If you look back at the posting of "MuggleNet nominated in CBBC poll", there's an edit saying: "EDIT: The MuggleNet army reigns supreme again. Good work, guys!" That means we won!!!!! and by 90%!!!!!

Posted by doctor23 Oct 24th 2006

Is there any confirmation from Jo about this? How many times has she told us that she will tell us if there is a signed book from her on Ebay. Unless we've heard from her I'm a bit doubtful here.

Posted by keele Oct 24th 2006

im a little doubtful of this.I cant even find this trust on the net, plus Jo hasn't even said anything about it.

Posted by enidlareg Oct 24th 2006

http://www.google.com/sea rch?hl=en&lr=&q=%22Helen+ Ritson+Trust+Fund%22&btnG =Search That's a bit fishy, don't you think? And I'm wondering why the picture is so small that we can't read the "letter from her PA confirming its authenticity and purpose." /sigh This is going to bother me until it's confirmed or rebuked. There goes my concentration. Good thing my boss isn't in today heh.

Posted by enidlareg Oct 24th 2006

Ah, just remove all the spaces from that URL I copied and pasted, or go to google.com and type in "Helen Ritson Trust Fund". Be sure to include those quotation marks.

Posted by sahmama_3 Oct 24th 2006

I really hope this is true. However, just a letter from the PR is not enough to make me bid for it. If it truly were authentic I would think Jo would mention it on HER website to validate. DOn't all other fake autographs have some kind of letter?? How many times has she said--Don't buy an supposedly authentic autographed HP book from ebay? Why is the picture of the book and letter so bad? I would think they should have better equipment and professionals to submit the pictures and the posting. No links to the underpriveledged kids website or newspaper or news TV announcements. It just doesn't ring true to me--skeptic that I am....but HOPING for the best.......

Posted by eekitserica Oct 24th 2006

i wish i could just bid for it, and then run, because, i bet someone else will bet after me. but what if no body else bid, and then i ended up having to pay that. how my mind works. yes. alright. well, who ever wins..good day. im just jealous

if it's fake.. SECTUSEMPRA! to whoevers doing it

MOTHER OF PUMPKIN JUICE - £880 !

Posted by AdrianTresk Oct 24th 2006

I would love to own a signed copy, and even though I have an ebay account I couldn't bid for it cos I just can't afford it ... I would bid just to bump the selling price up a bit for the charity, but then again since the price is at £880 now, I'd be terrified if I turned out to win the auction, so I think I'll let it go up by itself :p

Posted by braders101 Oct 24th 2006

i would love that book... but hey, i bet i dont get it, and well thats life ah... even though if i had one, i would treasure it with my life?

Posted by hplovahduhhrr Oct 24th 2006

ya ok like i even have $10.

Posted by FlippingTonks Oct 24th 2006

sigh... if only money grew on trees. I'm glad she is doings this though. It is a great fundraiser!!! Go JO!!

Posted by Trelawneys_Fan Oct 24th 2006

Id put a bid if I could... but I don't think my dad would b happy to know I spent 1000 dollars on a book...

Posted by Big_tymer Oct 24th 2006

I'm going to buy that!!!!!!!

Posted by Grey Oct 24th 2006

920 Pounds! (don't know how to do pounds sign--what are the keys for that?) How much would that be in dollars? About $4,600?

Posted by GorgeousGinnyxoxoxox Oct 24th 2006

OOOHHH i want that so bad!!! I mean who doesn't!!!! I would bid on it except i don't have that kind of money!!!

Posted by sophie_black Oct 24th 2006

I really don't feel good about this. This "Helen Ritson Trust Fund" doesn't seem to exist (I can't find it on google at ALL), and Jo didn't mention it on her website or anything. The pictures are bad, there are no links to whatever fund raiser thingy... I just really feel it's fake.

Posted by NewMuggler Oct 25th 2006

Hi! Just want to let you know that the book, the autograph and charity is 100% authentic. Helen was my younger sister's best friend. They ran together for a local athletics club - Sutton and District - until Helen died from a brain tumour at 15. After she died, the trust fund was set up to enable children - who couldn't otehrwise afford it - to partake in athletics, something that Helen dearly loved. You can't find a website, because the fund isn't big enough to warrant one. Money is normally raised locally, or through sponsored marathons etc. Helen was also a huge Harry Potter fan, and before she died used to write to JK Rowling. This is why JK Rowling donated the book for us to auction on the charity's behalf. I hope this puts your minds at rest! We are thrilled with the amount of money the book already raised! That money will seriously help a lot of people! Please continue to bid generously! Thanks!

Posted by Cree902 Oct 25th 2006

This would be pretty sweet if it wasn't so expensive. Oh well.

Posted by joshholly Oct 26th 2006

HBP sold for $3,024.63. Ouch, that will leave a mark!!! Wish I had that kind of money to spend on a signed HP book.

Posted by flsilva Oct 26th 2006

Auction ended at £1,600.00, that's a lot of money but remember it all goes to the fundraiser for the Helen Ritson Trust Fund, this is great!!! this fund assists under privilaged children. Hope JK Rowling could donate some for 3° world countries such as mine (Mexico) we really need funds to help a lot of people...if she reads this hope she contacts me (flor.silva@gmail.com) I could help her do all of it with some especialized goverment and private organizations.

Posted by Dancer_1021 Oct 31st 2006

1,600!!! wow!

Harry learned quickly not to feel too sorry for the gnomes. He decided just to drop the first one he caught over the hedge, but the gnome, sensing weakness, sank its razor-sharp teeth into Harry's finger and he had a job shaking it off — until — "Wow, Harry — that must've been fifty feet..."
