JKR: Book 7 coming along nicely
For the first time in five years, JK Rowling has won a literary prize in her own country. In a poll of 3,000 schoolchildren, aged 8-12, Half-Blood Prince was voted the best Scottish children's book. Jo was unable to attend the awards ceremony, but did pass along this message, containing news of progress on the seventh HP book:

"Thank you so much for this award. I'm sure any writer will agree that it's always reassuring to receive recognition for your work, but it's particularly meaningful when the decision has been made by the readers themselves. To them, I'm enormously grateful and delighted that Harry Potter continues to give so much pleasure.

"I'm sorry I am unable to receive this award in person today, but I currently have my head down writing the final book, which is coming along nicely."

Thanks to everyone who emailed!

Wow! Soo happy to hear that! And i never knew that she wasnt voted the best in her own country for 8 YEARS! whoa! that's unfair... first?

Posted by emily55 Nov 28th 2006

Hooray for her!!

Posted by springz Nov 28th 2006

Heck yes!!!!! Book 7!!!! Congrats again Jo!

Posted by singer2b182 Nov 28th 2006

"coming along nicely?" how are we supposed to take that? lol it would be fantastic if she said something like "title coming tomorrow"

Posted by browncoat Nov 28th 2006

Congratulations, Jo! :) If you're looking for a proof-reader, I'm quite handy *polite, innocent cough*

Posted by domp Nov 28th 2006

congrats! It makes me happy to hear some official news about the new book.....

Posted by Fire_Whiskey_ Nov 28th 2006

Yeoow thats great news that Jo won an award in the UK (or was in in Scotland?). Good stuff about the book as well, she must really have her head down and be concentrating on the book if she can't go and pick up her award.

Posted by Carol61 Nov 28th 2006

Congrats to Jo on the award, which I feel is much deserved. But I absolutely hate the phrase "final book" where Harry Potter is concerned! I'd sort of like her to keep writing until Harry dies of old age (old age in wizarding terms that is).

Posted by LadyM Nov 28th 2006

WOOT!! ohh i cant wait........oh im all hyper now...

Posted by Hollie Nov 28th 2006

IT BETTER BE COMING ALONG NICELY, YOU'VE TAKEN BLEEDIN' LONG ENOUGH!

Posted by Pixiestx Nov 28th 2006

YaY Jo!!! I can't wait either!

Posted by american_allie Nov 28th 2006

Well thats great in all but how about a...precentile or an site update, or even a TITLE!!! Ok I'm done ranting. Yay Jo, great your talking to us kinda again! Well I guess any book news is book news so maybe more is coming soon *wink wink*

Posted by pimpdaddywupwup Nov 28th 2006

HELLOOOOOOOOO!!!! We need more then that Jo. What is the title? When will it be done? Who dies? We need detail here people!!!

Posted by nat089 Nov 28th 2006

WHOOHOO GO JO! :) I'm really glad she won that prize!

Posted by rivendellroseOSU Nov 28th 2006

Yay for Jo! But seriously...c'mon..."quit e nicely"??? WE'RE GOIN NUTS HERE! I think she's doing this to purposely toy with us. C'mon Jo, how about for Christmas???

Posted by MuggleChick04 Nov 28th 2006

GO JO! I want a SUMMER 2007 release!!!!!!

Posted by Belsito Nov 28th 2006

I find it hard to believe that she couldn't take a day off to go to the ceremony UNLESS she has set herself a deadline in which to complete the book and is slaving day and night to be done by the target date (perhaps by the end of the year?) Is 07.07.07 still achievable?

Posted by Greeney Nov 28th 2006

Posted by Hollie "IT BETTER BE COMING ALONG NICELY, YOU'VE TAKEN BLEEDIN' LONG ENOUGH!" Maybe you want the last book to be lame and only four or five chapters, but I suppose not everyone can trade patience for quality - Not like she owes you anything either.

Posted by TonkyTonks Nov 28th 2006

yay jo for winning, she deserves for the world of harry shes created. come on jo give us a nice xmas present a title, a release date even........

Posted by hpfan20 Nov 28th 2006

Congrats Jo! but please...can't you give us an early Christmas present?...

Posted by fanaticallyobsessed Nov 28th 2006

okay sorry for posting again and so soon ... but I have a few things to say ... 1) now that I think about it...i totally agree with Belsito...and I also hope that's true :D! 2) Greeney - can't you just take a joke? if you are a die-hard HP fan ... then I'm sure even you can't truthfully say that you are not at all impatient about the last book's release. So if someone does express that, in a light way too, then you shouldn't be so ... well ... so standoffish ... we all, or at least I, want a really really really really really really really really really really really really AMAZING seventh book ... so obviously we wouldn't actually want Jo to publish a feeble sort of work ... but we all are also really really really really really really really really eager to read a NEW HP book again ... so if someone says that, albeit in different words, it is understandable.

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Nov 28th 2006

Cool! I hope it will come out on 7/7/07!!

Posted by candycrops Nov 28th 2006

Oh come on Jo you got to give us something here. Im starting to get potter fever again.

Posted by Quidditchgirl24 Nov 28th 2006

wow.....um.....hasn't she been saying this since early 2006? So why is it big news?

Posted by oldest3 Nov 28th 2006

Nicely...NICELY!!! She's been saying that for ever and isn't it time that she told us something different? Geez we love you Rowling but you've gotta give us a little more then that! and cool cool about her winning that award, ya done good jkr

Posted by slytherinprincess Nov 28th 2006

wow thats awesome !. of corse she would win her books are amazing. they get better and better each book. im stoked for the 7th!. and the 5th movie.

Posted by smurff Nov 28th 2006

She hadn't won in something in England for five years!? Woah... Well, I'm glad she won!!!

Posted by pudella Nov 28th 2006

With the holiday season coming up I'd imagine she'd be busy spending time with family and friends rather than writing. I like the idea of her revealing the title as an xmas present to us, or hopefully no later than new year's!

Posted by Helene Nov 28th 2006

Well, that's a nice little progress report! And yes, I agree; knowing the title would, indeed, be a lovely Christmas present for us all!

Posted by pizzapple Nov 28th 2006

oh boy oh boy oh boy! im so excite about book seven! i have some input on the 07.07.07 preferred release date. i fear that it will not happen then because the movie is coming out the week right after. i read somewhere that "they" did not want to release the book and movie at the same time bc it could steal the thunder from one or the other. but really, yall have no idea how much i love harry potter! mmmmm

Posted by PsychoticTigre Nov 28th 2006

BIG yay on that.

Posted by ChoChang Nov 28th 2006

I seriously -CANNOT- wait for the 7th book. At the same time, however, I'm equally anxious, for it will be the last book of my most beloved series. Good luck to Jo, and for the rest of us who will be anticipating for it! :D

Posted by Smarty_Roxy Nov 28th 2006

WE LOVE U JO! GUYZ, THINK ABOUT IT, SHE WANTS 2 KEEP US HANGING SO IT'LL FEEL TWICE ASAWESOME WHEN WE GET OUT HANDS AROUND THAT SWEET, SWEET BOOK!

Posted by simdave2000 Nov 28th 2006

W00TIZZLE! Any news is good news...especially when that news pertains to Book 7...

Posted by heyleex3 Nov 28th 2006

WOOPWOOP! cant waittt betchizzz.:)

Posted by bwof Nov 28th 2006

So, um, I need more news about how the book is going. My heart jumped when I saw the headline, thought it was major news but better than nothing though. Cool to hear it is going well! But eh...ya know?! :) we always want more, don´t we?!

Posted by Dana_of_the_DA Nov 28th 2006

Congratulations Jo! That's a well deserved award to THE BEST AUTHOR IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But book 7 is taking ever too long to finish, we need something to help us bear the long waiting, How about a title Jo? Pretty pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaa aaase!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ronlives99 Nov 28th 2006

....and HOW long has she been saying this?

Posted by hpwizkid Nov 28th 2006

Sweeeeeeeet! Glad to hear how it's coming along....and it is interesting that she couldn't personally accept her reward--especially since she hasn't won one (in the UK/Scotland) in several years...she must really be far along in Book 7 which is EXCELLENT news!! On another note--when we learned the title for HBP it was released on June 29th and the book came out in July, and the release date was announced close to Christmas---so I think that instead of a title for Christmas, we will be getting a release date instead.................. .....woot woot!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by bwof Nov 28th 2006

Oh yeah, someone said (that is belsito) it there! Good one! While reading some other comments I read one that said Jo might have set a deadline for herself when she didn´t attend the ceremony! Wouldn´t it be brilliant! I know I´m impatient but I´m just so eager to get the title and of course the book itself ;). Oh, and well done for winning the prizzze!! :)

Posted by loris Nov 28th 2006

coming along nicely?! mmm great news... really great... i REALLY did not suspect this... great news... i can hardly containe the excitement... however, i think we shall receive a title for xmas, BUT not a release date, that's sure.

Posted by Raine Nov 28th 2006

That's good to hear. :)

Posted by Annie Nov 28th 2006

Gah, we've been hearing that book 7 is coming along nicely for the past year...when will we finally get some solid info? I mean, by this time before the HBP release we knew the title and had excerpts from the story and everything.

Posted by Freddie_Phoenix Nov 28th 2006

Wouldn't it be more fun just to wait and read it when it's done, though? Do you really want to hear bits of the storyline already? And to those who're yelling and using way too many exclamation marks: calm down. It'll be done when it'll be done. We've waited a while, and we can wait some more.

Posted by princess_horcrux Nov 28th 2006

i'm really pleased she got the award and she obviously seems chuffed it was voted by her readers :-) erm i hate to be picky and i hope no one hates me for saying this lol but jkr's english, and was born in england, she just lives in scotland lol. Well done JK, glad to hear the book's coming along nicely, i really hope she doesn't kill off harry :-(

Posted by CassMaxwell13 Nov 28th 2006

hasent she said that the book is comming along nicely like 250000 times already? shoudent it be comming along great by now? what i want to know is if she has chosen a title yet! i want the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by AccioSeverus Nov 28th 2006

yay, congratulations jo!! as for the seventh book, i agree with Freddie_Phoenix: it may be hard to stay patient (and i should know this; i'm one of the most impatient people i know) but i'm willing to wait a bit longer, because the book will be AMAZING when it finally gets to us.

Posted by flsilva Nov 28th 2006

Great way to go Jo!!! I hope for the release to be on July 7th... and remember muggles..."The boy who lived will stand for the last time against he who must not be named and only one will survive."

Posted by MiracleMira Nov 28th 2006

"oming along nicely"What's that even meen ? I know it's good at she doesn't have writers block or something and I'm glad she won an award and stuff but I need a date well OK maybe not a date but at least a season (hopefuly no later than summer 2007) anyway GO Jo

Posted by TreRadical Nov 28th 2006

WOOT! well that's always nice to know. i pray to god that it comes out summer 2007. i don't want to go to school and have the ending ruined for me.
