JKR: Book 7 coming along nicely
For the first time in five years, JK Rowling has won a literary prize in her own country. In a poll of 3,000 schoolchildren, aged 8-12, Half-Blood Prince was voted the best Scottish children's book. Jo was unable to attend the awards ceremony, but did pass along this message, containing news of progress on the seventh HP book:

"Thank you so much for this award. I'm sure any writer will agree that it's always reassuring to receive recognition for your work, but it's particularly meaningful when the decision has been made by the readers themselves. To them, I'm enormously grateful and delighted that Harry Potter continues to give so much pleasure.

"I'm sorry I am unable to receive this award in person today, but I currently have my head down writing the final book, which is coming along nicely."

Thanks to everyone who emailed!

woot! Even if it is something we've heard 8 million times, at last it's book news!!! woooo!!!!

Stop asking for a title! She hasn't chosen yet: she's down to a short list of three, but would you really be happy if she rushed her descision and chose a rubbish one? As for a release date: she's not even nearly finished writing (about half-way through I think? Can anyone clarify that?) and a deadline can't be set until the manuscript is finished. Plus she needs to write a second draft doesn't she? She did with the others I think, definitely the first few. Just calm down and don't rush her. I'd rather have a decent book than an 7/7/7 release just for aestheticism and symmetry. Finally... Shut up you irritating Americans! It's her first award in SCOTLAND, not England or the UK, for FIVE years, not eight. Morons... (Not all of you: most have got brains. Some are just giving you a bad name. Emerson is OK for exampe). To be honest I don't think this is even news - she hasn't told us anything. She'd hardly be likely to tell us that it's coming along horrifically would she?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM MMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! !!! my heart started pounding madly when i first glanced at the news (BOOK 7 GOSH!!!). well congrats jo 4 winning the award but somehow i'm feeling rather uncomfortable at the moment at the thought that she was unable 2 present herself 2 accept her award. she must be really working hard and as belisto said she must have set herself a deadline so i cant help but feel that she's lagging behind at the moment and she seems slightly stressed out too. well, personally i cant get any work done right when i'm stressed out (as i've experienced during exams) but seriously i cant contain myself till book7 comes out either but i dont want it 2 be rushed off. i prefer an impressive book 7 even if it is long awaited rather than a feeble rushed book 7. so jo plz dont get too affected by the comments and stay calm. we are all looking 4 a breath taking book 7!! so guys plz relax and dont get her to rush through the book

doesn't "news" imply that we learn something new book 7 has been "coming along nicely" for the better part of a year. Give us a pagecount or a detailed description of work done or something jeeze.

What... final book? Is this the last one?

Posted by Hollie Nov 28th 2006

GREENEY - ERR, it was a joke. Get a sense of humour

Posted by bwof Nov 28th 2006

@LWaite : Are you for real LWaite???! No, din´t you know, the book everyone is waiting for isn´t the final one, this is the second one, ( not)! ya right! sigh

Posted by bwof Nov 28th 2006

@ shilpa; you are right shilpa! Now I feel a bit guilty that I think it is good that she has set a deadline, I mean she should be able to finish it anytime she wants without being under too much stress! I can´t pretend that Im not excited if she has written a lot and sort of has some date which she is working around but I rather wait for the book than have it rushed out and have her stressed just so impatient fans ( me included) don´t have to wait longer. She does have a family...

thank god! i just hope she tell us when it's coming out soon... my summer sleep away camp schedule is waiting for it!!! if not, i'll leave for camp for a day to go to the midnight party and read the book I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER

Posted by LizDig5972 Nov 28th 2006

Nicely.. just NICELY!? My creative writing teacher would kill me for using that word.

Posted by ginny53 Nov 28th 2006

I am happy that JO got the award. I cant wait for the 7th book but I agree with TomMarvoloRiddle if you rush her and she makes a mistake you dont want to know that you were one of the people trying to rush her. I really want to know the title but in a way I like guessing and fantisising especially since this is the last book and after we will have no Harry Potter books left to guess about. I wish she could write more but I definitly think that she is more than capible of writing a good ending to an amazing series.

Posted by TheBoltShapedScar Nov 28th 2006

Great that the book progresses well. Of course it's always lovely when Jo wins some award-thing ;D, but it's even better when she doesn't attend the show because she's writing, yay! Go on, hurry up, I'm WAITING! :D

Posted by rachel9isfine Nov 28th 2006

Now this is real news! Not all that OOTP movie stuff. All I want to hear about right now is JKR and Book 7! That's what gets me super excited, even if it's the littlest thing like that haha. But I don't consider that little, I consider that huge. And if it's coming along nicely, then I don't think she's going to need another year to write it, so I hope that means it's coming out this summer! I wouldn't really want it out during the school year next year, and I can't wait till 2008. So yeah i'm excited! If it comes out on 7/7/07 it's only 221 days till then!

Posted by hpwiz812 Nov 28th 2006

OMG!!! JK i beg you please finish it! please, have it by next summer!! Please!!!PLEASE!!!

Posted by flsilva Nov 28th 2006

I love Jo. I didn't know that it had been that long sice she'd gotten an award in Scotland. That seems odd to me.

Posted by Wassan Nov 29th 2006

YES Book 7 news! I mean the movie 5 news was great and we had a few awesome weeks but, common..... Book 7 is gonna be a thrill ride!!!!! So, it's coming along nicely :) that's our jo, I feel like all 6 books are really smooth, as in, you gradually get into the story with every new detail. GO JO!!!!!

Posted by LWaite Nov 29th 2006

flsilva, I was just hoping the series would last longer. I don't want the series to end.

Posted by Trinity7 Nov 29th 2006

All right! Now this is the kind of news *I* like to hear, rather than the $hit about the stupid movies!

Posted by Shado Nov 29th 2006

Nice to hear. Can't wait till the 7th, Mystic Kettle of Nakeldirk is really an encouraging title...

Posted by Witchy_Woman Nov 29th 2006

That's a good thing to know. I was deathly afraid that the HBP movie would come out before book seven. If it did, I wouldn't have been able to go see it. I want the plot to be resolved and have some closure before I can watch *chokes* Severus kill *sobs* Dumbledore.

Posted by hp323232 Nov 29th 2006

five years??????????!

Posted by SiriuslyHP Nov 29th 2006

Congrats Jo!! nice to hear some news about HP 7. even if it is only that the writing is "coming along nicely" at least it's reassuring us!!!

Posted by my_ceddyteddy Nov 30th 2006

I'm so happy for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I need your opinions. Do yall think Harry will die in the last book? My friends keep saying he has to die or else Voldemort will never die. Then I say Yes Voldemort can die with Harry still alive. Harry just has to kill Voldemort by himself and not have anyone else kill Voldemort! I need that book to come out or else i'll die!

Posted by jess_1818 Dec 2nd 2006

cant wait for the book to come out!!!

Harry stared at the word "Pig," then looked up at the tiny owl now zooming around the light fixture on the ceiling. He had never seen anything that looked less like a pig.
