Nicholas Hooper confirmed to compose OOTP
HPANA recently reported that Nicholas Hooper will be composing the soundtrack for the next Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Warner Bros. confirmed yesterday to Film Music Radio that he will indeed be scoring the soundtrack for the fifth film.
In 2004, Hooper won the BAFTA for Best Original Score and was nominated several other times for prestigious awards.
Thanks to Bun Bun for sending this in!

Cool thats awsome and thats also cool how it says no comment instead of 0 comments.
How come Williams isn't doing it anymore?
no-one will ever be as good as williams. 3rd post!
that's cool...4th post!!
Hmm...well I haven't seen anything he's done...so I hope he's good. :/
Never heard of him, but I'll reserve my judgement until I hear what hes got. They should seriously consider Marianelli, Nobuo Uematsu or Koji Kondo. They Rock!!
i liked the older comment system.. much lesscomplicated. and who ever heard of Bun Bun?
I dont care who will be composing the soundtrack as long as they're good.
Clauds, it was decided a few years ago that Harry Potter needed some new and more different music. The old music was getting a bit monotonous, and I like how each movie is getting a flavor of it's own. Purple Princess. Fourth post. Good for you. Woo. I could not be more excited.
Eww. John Williams WAS THE BEST EVER. Even Patrick Doyle was good, I'm sorry but i'm not looking forward to it. "Hedwig's Theme" "Harry's Wonderous World", "Buckbeak's Flight" "A Window to the Past". Nothing will ever replace that -the best part of the first Harry Potter Films...
personally, i like hearing different composers' work in the films. it's neat how each film has it's own unique "flavor", and i can't wait to hear what Hooper has in store. John Williams is a personal favorite of mine, but i'm open to new possibilities.
Bun Bun? Are you serious? It couldn't be.
cool!!! it should be good
cool? haha.... bun bun.
Well, i like williams sounds and everything and have liked him best so far, but doyle wasnt bad..hopefully hooper keeps up the cool sounds that help make the hp movies.
Don't know anything about this guy, actually, so just hope he's good *enough* for OotP ;) Soundtracks have been quite nice so far, so he just needs to keep up this tendency. But guess Warner Bros know what they're doing anyway :)
i like this comment system better...no more of that KoolKat fiasco as to the news: ive never heard of him...but i trust that he will bring a new flavor to the 5th movie also: haha bunbun
wait, wasn't it more important who he is rather tahn who is beter? Warner Bro. haven't even confirm.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
boo what?
JOHN WILLIAMS COME BACK!! The man wrote the Star War's theme for God's sake! He's brilliant!
I'm a huge fan of John Williams and I'm disappointed that he's not doing the score for the 5th movie. He's the best. I wasn't very happy with the soundtrack to hp4 but I bought it anyway. I have all the others.:(
John Williams is good but all his scores sound the same. Variety's the spice of life, and all that.
Nobuo Uematsu and Koji Kondo? Are you trying to be funny? VIDEO GAME COMPOSERS? I’d rather not have video game composers attempt to compose music for a fantasy film – especially not Harry Potter which needs an emotional score not just your average fantasy music!! Neho, on a brighter note, I’m quite looking forward to hearing Nicholas Hooper’s take on the movies. He may not have scored any big features but he’s done a ton of dramas, which are a good foundation. He’s also worked with and is good mates with David Yates as well – he’s also BRITISH! YEO!!
I'm a huge fan of movie soundtrack music (I hate those cat-strangling pop bands) and particulaly like all of John Williams work, not least his music for Harry Potter and Star Wars series, but also for his other work (which I'm sure you'll know covers hundreds of other titles). We all know that Williams, as the predecessor has given the future composers for the Harry Potter movies the foundations and high standard target to work off of and to better in their own style (I would get tired of hearing the same themes remixed in a hundred different variations). I'm open to listening to what other composers will bring to the movies even though I'm not personally familiar with any of Hoopers previous work and I say to him: Good luck and I'll be looking forward to hearing what you come up with.
Yay!!! I really luv the idea about how each film should have its own special themes... I completely agree with that. I am hoping that this guy's work will be good... it probably will, but I really didn't care for Pat Doyle's work. The soundtrack for the third movie will always be my favorite, lets see if this guy is capable of making the fifth's music better! Ohh I'm so excited!! AdrianTresk, I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Well if he got an award he must be good so I'm ok with it! ;D
haha! lol bun bun sent it in, no offence but that is one weird name! neway, i was just wondering who composed the LOTR seires music? b/c if they composed OOOTP it would be excellent music!!
Howard Shore did Lotr. Yeah, it would be gr8, as long as he kept something of the old themes in! Music is the soul of a film!!!
Nobuo Uematsu is a brilliant composer - don't be put off by the fact he's composed only for games. He's one of the best modern-day composers in general. Anyway, I really wish Howard Shore or Hans Zimmer or Danny Elfman could do the next HP scores.
I want John Williams.
Interesting... ^^ Give the man a break! He could be making the best Harry Potter soundtrack yet.. Maybe..
Woo! Hopefully he's better than both Doyle and Williams... This one deserves a really great track... Maybe a theme song for Sirius, and when he falls- through the... WAHHHHHH :'( To Waldszenen: Danny Elfman is a really good composer, but he's more of the creepy-type songs... I don't think he'd be quite right for the HP series... Howard Shore is very good too, though, he might be able to pull it off. He did the Lord of the Rings trilogy, didn't he? Absolutely brilliant soundtrack!
Oh Yeah, I forgot about Hans Zimmer, he's good. Also Howard Shore and danny Elfman would be cool. And whats wrong with Uematsu? He does compose for fantasy themed games( what HP is), and he has already composed for a movie. Besides games and movies arent different when it comes to making music. I found John Williams to have been abit dull in HP compared to his other work. His music wasnt that emotional in HP( I dont think he was very inspired). The key is finding a composer that is inspired by the movies, or the music wont be very emotional or effective.
Well, at least Patrick Doyle doesn't compose any more of the songs. No offense: I liked his Quidditch World Cup (Bulgarians) theme a lot, but that awful Hogwarts March... And I really hate saying this, but it's good that John Williams doesn't come back. Listen to Dueling the Basilisk: that has a part of The Quidditch Match in it! It should be darker and scarier... and Patrick Doyle did that better. Of which movies did Hooper compose the sound track, anyway?
Nobuo Uematsu is the best composer alive on this earth right now! He composes the best Music for the best games and most recently the best movies. He has done movies in the past and the music was top notch even better than, can't believe I'm saying it, John Williams. His music is intense, beautiful, and captivating. He hasn't become the artist he has by writing average Fantasy music. He is huge in Japan, top three once I believe. And when he held a concert at the Disney Music Hall it sold out the day the tickets were made available. So before you make mundane and incredibly ignorant comments like Nobuo Uematsu makes average Fantasy music, do your homework. This new guy I have never heard of mostly because most of his work were for Television but I have high hopes. Doyle's music was not very rich and therefore slightly boring. But if David Yates likes him then he's good enough for me.
I'd never heard of him before but I'll wait till I've heard his music to decide. If he's won a BAFTA he can't exactly be bad. I agree that he will never quite be John Williams but let's give him a chance, they wouldn't have chosen some nobody to do Harry Potter.
bun bun?
Well, I guess he can't be bad, but I really wish they would just stick with one person for the rest of the films....
im bun bun and its a long story thanks to www.jwfan.com (john williams fan) i found this news!!
This is so stupid. "Each film has its own unique flavor." That's bull. It's called consistency. I'll admit, Chris Columbus needed to get replaced FAST, and its amazing what Cuaron and Newell have done with the films, but after hearing Doyle's hideous abomination that people call the GoF "score" I am overly wary of any new composers other than John Williams. And P.S.: it is not monotonous, trag. It may have been repetetive in the first and second films, but if you had ears, you would know that the Prisoner of Azkaban score went in a completely new, different direction, that was wonderful to listen to. You are a stupid philistine.
*yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn* John Williams was the best. Dogstar--cool name. Very creative. But please don't be mean to people! :D John Williams was a brilliant composer! I love his work! But PS/SS did sound the same as CoS. But PoA was absolutely beautiful!
I wish that Williams would have done it... I think that they should stick to one person, but that is my opinion.
wow!!! u guys are killing the new dude...i goitta admit that john williams is great but mayb itll help to have a new composer and a new flavour to the 5th movie?? im just saying....i loved john williams music but like i said, it might help....-potter92414-
i havent heard his stuff i dont think so im not gonna judge him before actually listening to what he can do ;)
I personally love John William's work and am kind of upset that he's not coming back, but maybe this guy will be good. I'm going to find some of his music.
you've just gotta love the forums! "i want john williams" lol its quite funny just to read.... nehoo - john williams rocks but lets face it, he's had his run on the films and the current trend is that with each new director they'l prob bring in a guy they've worked with b4 (as has been done wif goblet n phoenix) if they still use hedwigs theme i'l not complain!
This guy hasn't even worked in film before. I am very worried about this fact but I'll continue to have faith.
Why not Williams??? He was fantastic. But I guess we can give him a try for OotP.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I love music . . . I can't wait to hear his for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. WOW!
