The title of Book 7!
Presenting your Christmas present from Jo Rowling:Thank you, Jo, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Analyze the title: Debate and discussion about the title is currently taking place over at our forums - go check it out!
The release date: Find out when we think Book 7 will be released, now that we have a title.
EDIT: Some news outlets are reporting the title as "Deathly Hollows," but this is incorrect. Also, for those of you who hadn't noticed, the title was released yesterday on the winter solstice. Recall in OOTP: "...at the solstice will come a new... and none will come after..." At the winter solstice, a new title will be revealed, but as this is the last book, no more will be released.

o ya..and with the people arguing about the deathly lisp thing..after i solved the hangman thing i was like.."wtf...is deathly even a word?" and so now im off to dictionary.com for hAllows...hehe.
THANKS ALOT MUGGLENET! i didn't even know the title was released yet, and if i even knew it was i would want to find out for myself! but here i go, going to mugglenet, then "THE TITLE OF BOOK SEVEN IS HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS" just right there in front of my face. IT's dumb.
Wow... I've never seen so many reponses before!!! 1052!!!!!!! thats incredible...but yah is deathly like even a word? And does the title give a hint that the series will end at godrics hollow? hmm something to think about isn't it?
I must say, people's responses = fantastic. I especially loved the person who said they were 'crying in their pants.' Classic. Anyway, I hated the title at first... before realizing that it wasn't all that bad. And then I mixed the letters around into an anagram (Deathly Hallows) into "shall lead thy ow." I ended up liking the title a whole lot better once I realized that. "You! Lead thy ow!" *grin* Have fun, people.
This is great. I love the title and can't wait even more for it to be released. I was like that for the Half-Blood Prince. I didn't think much of the book for a bit because it seemed so far away for the book to come out but now that she has released the title it doesn't seem so far away. Now I am once again visiting the fan sites all the time hoping for more news even though I know there probably won't be. I just wish it could be like two years ago where on Christmas or around Christmas she told us that she was done the book and it was going to be released. Because last time she updated her site, released the title and then told us she was done. I am hoping it will work that way this time. :) Love you JK Rowling.
MarleneMcFly- I completely agree with you, Jo wouldn't make the title to the long awaited 7th book something that we already knew about.. she is more likely to make it a subplot in the full story that leads the plot on... the deathly hallows are not going to be as easy to define as, say, the horcruxes...
I believe the deathly hallow has extreme significance. Obviou sly the hallow refers to either the horcruxes OR the place where the horcruxes are at. Deathly refering to when the horcruxes are destroyed voldamort is one step closer to death, or as seen with dumbledoors hand or deaths occur where the horcruxes are or the horcruxes themself cause death. or the fact that voldy had to kill in order to make the horcruxes.
Cheep wand you're an idiot! Yah I agree with dancemama073 I think that thi title i great and it just makes the suspense and questions all the more dramatic and complicated!!! What say you?
Actually, if you mix up 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' it becomes 'shall lead Harry Potter to death whyn.' "Whyn" is Old English, so there you go. *giggle* Oh, I love messing around with anagrams. If only it came true.
cheep_wand: if you would check more often you would know for more than 24 hours that the book title was released. The title had been in spoiler format for a long time.
Yah to agree with Slorf....DAH!
I did expect a little more editorials, but the theory sum up which has come up is goood ;). Now, a release date would be fine in about one month....and I am rootin for the 31st of October :)
I doubt harry will die in the 7th book. It goes against the plot, after harry survives 4 encounters with voldamort, it is obvious that he wont die after the 5th. ................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ............. offt opic: did you guys like the title half blood prince, i thought it was a bit irelivent to the books meaning, the half blood prince was snape but the bigger discovery in hbp was the horcruxes not the prince. so that was a bit odd.
SiriuslyHP: Of course! The draught of living death! I'd forgotten about that. Perhaps this is what will save Harry from death. Ron, Hermione, and Ginny will think for a time that Harry has died but then find out later that he just took some of that draught. Oh, please let this be true!
Actually, an even BETTER anagram (I'm having fun): "Death to Harry Potter and the sly hollow." :D
I think we will have to wait a few days until mugglenet is flooded with editorials.
@dancemama073: yes it is me =)
@ grownupchick; that´s great!! That would be brilliant ;). and i did think the title of the sixth book was rather good, I mean, it was about snape....and i hope we will se lots mooore of him in the deathly hallows!! I can´t wait for harry to come face to face with him!!!
i love your idea GrownUpChick!! i think thats an amazing theory! also cheep wand: if you didn't want to find out the title, why were you on mugglenet? also, before when the title could only be read when highlighted, it said that if you wanted to figure it out yourself, read the post before (go to jkrowling.com...) Anyway, its not as if you wouldn't have found out anyway with everyone talking about it and it being the TOP STORY on MSN...
Never mind, once again. The anagram was wrong, so of course, my next one: "Death to Harry and sly hallow, the terp." 'Terp' is Jo's new word, of course. Makes sense, right?
i was just reading some of the theories...Donkeykongjr: i really hope that your theory is right. I personally think that both harry and voldemort will die, but id MUCH rather have harry not die. i dont think id stop crying if harry died, even if i knew it was coming =/
yeah i was the one that sent this rebuttal in on mugglecast!!!!!!!!!!! suck it shitters
How'd she know she would have the 7th title by the winter solstice? AWsome its a really good title
Its Deathly Hallows, and Godrics Hollow, so I don't think that the title has any reference to Godrics Hollow. OMG. Do you realize that after this book there will be NO MORE Harry Potter books yet? I know ppl know this obviously but seriously, when you have the last book in your hands, I think it may hit you then that this is the end. I'm going to be so sad. I'll read the last book very very slowly to savor each chapter.
Didn't J.K. Rowling say that her religious faith is the key to understanding what will happen in the Harry Potter series? Well, I told others this and they became upset and said they would not support her if this were true. What does it matter?
haha i agree marythefairy. i really want the 7th book to come out but im dreading it at the same time. after the 7th book comes out, there arent going to be any more "theories" or conversations, or ANYTHING else... =/
OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! I can't believe I didn't find this out until now, and I call myself a HP fan??!!! Deathly Hallows hmm... *runs off to do research*
So, in the adventures of Harry and the sly hallow (who's apparently a terp... go figure). Who's the sly hallow, you ask? "Hallow" is saintly, so perhaps McGonagall? Aha, yes! I've figured it out! Harry and McGonagall will have an affair before dying a horrible death! It's so simple, you see? (It's for the anagram "death to Harry and sly hollow, the terp.")
Sweeterised: Yeah, Jo said that if she spoke about her faith it would give away too much about what will happen. This comment makes me think that Harry, much like Jesus, will have to die to save wizardkind. Hopefully, I am wrong about this and right about the draught-of-living-death idea. I don't understand why anyone would say they wouldn't support Jo if her faith is the key. She can certainly write book seven without trying to preach to anyone, if that's what your friends are worried about.
Uhhh Sarahluna, i dont exactly think youre getting anywhere =D but i love the idea of harry and mcgonagall having an affair: it cracks me up!!
umm I don’t know if anyone has said this yet but... Hallows is a word to describe saints or spirits. Deathly spirits are ghosts. Then also, Hallows seems to refer to All Hallow's Eve--> Halloween. Halloween comes from the Celtic holiday samhain. During this day, the celts believe that the "veil" (I’m thinking DoMysteries veil) between the dead and living world stretches thin. In other words ghosts come back to the real world on this day... could the title possibly refer to Sirius or Dumbledore coming back? Or Lilly or James?
what page in OOTP does it say that????
Deana: no idea! im trying to find it myself!!
Ohh hp724..for the sake of Harry and Me i hope sirius comes back. He was my favorite character..i loved him so much. And it wasnt right of Jo to take him away from harry. Ive always hoped hed come back, even as a ghost..and i always new in my heart Jo would justhave to bring him back somehow. And dumbledore..he just HAS to come back..he has to be in the last book. My heart broke when sirius died, and broke in 4 pieces when Dumbledore died. They have to be brought back. Jo has to show the world that love can band all of us together, and if she brought them back as ghosts, wouldnt that show that? Them somehow helping Harry fight VOldemort, just as his parents and everyone else voldemort killed did in the 4th book? Oh that would be so amazing.
In the part where Lucius corners Harry and his friends and then they blow up all the prophecies so they can escape.
AAAAHHHHH...OMG hp and the Deatly Hallows.....sooooooooooo excited and i agree with inomoreabouthpthnu.....i hope siris came bac too....he was my favorite...and dumbledore was my second favorite.....i can't wait for this book....i NEED to know wat is gonna happen!!!!!
Ok this is very exciting stuff people but if you look at it logically (as we true fans do, even though some would say that destroys enjoyment; but I'm not one of them) she has been playing up to this for a while. Deathly Hallows. Firstly, deathly. That is kind of obvious, deathly means death like and therefore we can interpret this in the most direct fashion. Secondly, Hallows. THe hallow is halloween night, often referred to as all hallows eve, which is the night when witches, wizards and other ficticious creatures come to reek havoc (and occasionally vengance) upon mortals. It is also a time when children eat unearthly amounts of sweets but that is besides the point. THe pluralization of this would suggest we are talking about more than one halloween here. But which ones? James and Lily Potter meet their tragic end on Hallows eve, is she including this in the title? Is she suggesting that someone will perish on this day during seventh year? Could it be Harry or Voldemort? Perhaps both? Or could she be subtly telling us that the ending for the final book is after seventh year? she is bringing it to a close on the hallows eve of the millenium? Finally I'd like to point out it wasn't all a big surprise anyway, we were only discovering two words from the six so it was only a third of the title we were waiting for anyway. (Ok, have I sounded calm and sensible for long enough? good.) AHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHH!WOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO!!!!!! THE SEVENTH BOOK IS COMING CLOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! ~YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO!!!!!!ah.*dies.*
hahahahahahah xginny yea...you did a good job being calm for that long..i wouldve been like ZOMG YAY I DONT CARE ABOUT THIS STUPID THEORY I HAVE RIGHT NOW, ITS THE FRIGGIN TITLE TO THE FRIGGIN 7TH HARRY POTTER BOOK!YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAAYY AYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYY!!! !!!!!!!! lol...but you make a good point. I just hope and pray that Jo brings back Sirius and Dumbledore.
Slorf: thanks for the help. you just saved me a lot of reading (not that i would have minded reading the book over again...)
i wanted to post the following while the comment were just "60" but my comp didnt work, but no worries, yay!
OK. Dumbledore isn't coming back. He's dead. Deal with it and move on. Sirius, maybe in some form or another, we will just have to keep our fingers crossed. And it is completely possible that Harry is a Horcrux, and would be a crafty move on Voldemort's part making the one person who can kill you have to kill himself to do so. If he did it on purpose. Which I dont' think he did.
Godric's Hollow is spelled with an O so it cannot be that. didnt Harry parents die o Halloween. It could be that.
I still love that anagram (death to Harry and sly hallow, the terp). How do Harry and McGonagall die, you ask? Well, Ginny is left behind and depressed for a while... and in fact, it will be she who does it in the library with the rope! Molly later disowns her and the whole family shuns her. See? Oh, and then Draco and Ginny are left together (hence the acronym of DH, because Hermione later gets jealous and steals him away). Doesn't it all make perfect sense? *grins* But yeah. It's totally Harry/McGonagall in DH.
OMG............hp is love...........when ever i am on this website i get soooooooooo excited.....i can't stop thinking about the next book..........LIKE....... .......When is it gonna come out?......or.........Whos e gonna die? .......... is it true that the 7th book comes out 7-7-07 ??????.....please tell me!!!!!!!................ ALSO.......what is gonna happen with dumbledore and sirius??????????......... .............they can't be dead they just can't i love them wayyyyyyyyy to much to c them gone.......
Ok now that I've calmed down a bit... THANK YOU JO!!! And what exactly does "hallows" mean?? It could refer to sacred things or All Hallow's Eve-Halloween. Halloween has always been a big significance to the books... Aaargh!! I don't care, I'm just happy!!
Hahahahaah Sarahluna...uhh wondeful theory *applauses* Hallows literally means Holy..All Hallows Eve (halloween) Is the eve before All Saint's Day, a Catholic Holiday. So its something spiritually holy. And Faolan? How the hell do you know? What if Jo brings him back in the 7th book? You cant just say he wont and get over it. No, youre not the writer of the book, so i would shut up. Only Jo knows what is going to happen in the book, and thats final
I hate it! Thank's for ruining my christmas jo! Just kidding, it isn't as great as the other's-- but i'll live- AS LONG as the book isn't as bad as the title, if it is, my dad owns seven car dealerships and i will DEMAND a rewrite. I hope your reading this Neil I'm gonna sue you MWAHHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! Hey seven dealerships, most powerful number, interesting! *EVIL GRIN*
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or.... Dead an Holy, Harry Potter the tall WSH (Wizard who Saved Hogwarts)
The title is really amusing me at the moment. So I suppose some of you are wondering what happens to Hogwarts when Harry and McGonagall get together, yeah? See, Death Eaters attack Hogwarts, it's destroyed, and then McGonagall is free to do whatever she pleases! (Anagram = death to harry and sly hallow, the terp.) It will aaaall make sense in the end, you see.
thats INSANE :) i love it
