The title of Book 7!
Presenting your Christmas present from Jo Rowling:Thank you, Jo, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Analyze the title: Debate and discussion about the title is currently taking place over at our forums - go check it out!
The release date: Find out when we think Book 7 will be released, now that we have a title.
EDIT: Some news outlets are reporting the title as "Deathly Hollows," but this is incorrect. Also, for those of you who hadn't noticed, the title was released yesterday on the winter solstice. Recall in OOTP: "...at the solstice will come a new... and none will come after..." At the winter solstice, a new title will be revealed, but as this is the last book, no more will be released.

Do Not Disturb is back already I was just there less than 20 mins ago and was going back for a friend and it is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yayyyy, can't believe this news has come out today, brilliant, what a great christmas present. I think Hollow is something to do with Godric's hollow. Everything started there and everything will finish there.
how freaking awesome!! MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM jkr! :p
/I wonder if this counts as the annual christmas gift that joe gives out or is there more in store in the coming days? I wonder how long before the main stream meadia find out?
YAEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! !!
Awesome! Micah, your rants worked for the second time in a row! You rock!
I had to wait a few minutes before posting this. I was spazzing out so much that my hands were shaking xDDD WONDERFUL title! oh goodness... it's so close...
I got the screenshot of the book title frame to keep it... See how mad I am! :D
OMG! OMG! I LOVE jo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! THIS IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER!!!! Okay, I'm kinda hyper. got to calm down. *laughs like a mad woman* THANKS MUGGLENET, LOVE U 2! I got 2 phone all my friends tell them the title!
wow this is great! Do you think that the hollows are physical like Godric's Hollow or do you think they are physcological, in how voldemort is hollow without love. or maybe these deathly hollows are in the department of mysteries.
OMG!!!!! I AM SO EXITED!! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR MONTHS!! Wow.
I think the title sounds jolly good. And the theory about the deathly hallows being the Horcruxes is quite interesting. After all, this IS about Harry and the Horcruxes. However, deadly instead of deathly would have been more apt.I do think that this theory does hold some weight.Another point of view could be to look at these as souls...and some connection to the netherworld. But how does deathly fit in? Anyway,it's a nice surprise, and I'm really overjoyed yippppppeeeeee
Wow, This is exciting. We may see the book in 2007 afterall. Kid_A Hollows are valleys or clefts really set between large hills or mtns... Godric's Hollow.
Wonderfully oxymoronic title, don't you think? Deathly hallows. Is 'hallows' referring to a saintly area, perhaps? However, it literally translates as 'holy saints', so it could be referring to actual people. I think it's a fantastic title; very punchy and dark, and a great end to the series.
Jo, I don't know if you read these, but if you do: Thank you SO Much! What a wonderful Christmas present! Hope you and your family have a wonderful, magical, and merry Holiday! --Ariel an d if you don't, to everyone else: Isn't this the bestest EVER???
"Your search - "deathly hallows" - did not match any documents." Heehee. Just searched on Google; no results. JKR is brilliantly inventive.
How am I supposed to go through today now, I'll be going mad every 5 seconds, and I keep saying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows repeatedly to myself...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGG I CAN'T CALM DOWN I LOVE YOU JO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEE UUUUUUUUU
http://dictionary.referen ce.com/browse/deathly ht tp://dictionary.reference .com/browse/hallows In teresting, my coworker is going to flip when I tell her leter.
This is really exciting.. I really, really can't wait.. This is great, but how do you go about the day now??
I still haven't stopped shrieking every so often. This is literally the best day ever. At least the best one I've had since like, last Christmas. wooooooooooot. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. I can't calm down. I think the Hollows obviously refers to Godric's Hollow, and I think Harry is going to die. They are deathly. OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!
I was just wondering… I remember J.K Rowling saying that she had 3 possible titles in her mind. What if this isn’t the final title? What if she just wanted to let us know one of the 3 titles she had in mind and after a month or two gives us the other two?
phew, finally calmed down && told everyone I could tell. Lol. I could hardly find any matches for deathly hallows. Jo is inventive! Hmm... Better start thinking of some clues.
ITS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEEEEEEEEEAR!!!!! talk about the best christmas present EVER!!!! THANK YOU J.K.!!!! im going to go post a bulletin on my myspace now. hehe im so excited i cant contain it anymore
merci Jo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, today is my bday as well! Best day ever!!!
I keep searching the title up on Google, still no proper results, this is totally hot new stuff, we are so lucky to know about this so early. I'm totally grateful that I was on at the exact second it was revealed. It's a good thing I come on here every half an hour for news.
Even I have been wondering whether this is indeed the exact title for book 7.I have'nt been to Jo's site,so I don't know what it says.....But I DO HOPE that this is the ACTUAL title of book 7.I hope that she'll announce it soon. Another point I'd like to mention is that some associate deadly with deathly. But,there is quite a difference between them
ok people theres a difference between 'hallows' and 'hollows'. ..This doesnt sound too good for Harry, does it? anyway, thanks Jo!
This is soooooooo awesome!! A title at last! But everyone seems to think it has to do with Godric's Hollow. The title Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (not hollows). It would seem to have something to do with Halloween (All Hallows Eve).
OMG!!!!! That is such a cool title! Yay! Thanks Micah!
Here's the definiton of Hallow: 1. to make holy; sanctify; consecrate. 2. to honor as holy; consider sacred; venerate: to hallow a battlefield. Deathly Hallows makes me think of those already lost - Sirius, DD, James, Lily. Also, the Veil might be considered hallowed grounds. Since Tom's biggest fear is death, I think we might have Harry getting help from those who have already passed. Maybe we won't get this one in the summer, but on Halloween 2007 instead? Melinda
I've been having the worst birthday, but this makes it the BEST!!!!
Thank you Jo!! You have totally made my day!
Ooh, foreshadowing! =D I like it.
*dies happy*
This may be a stupid question, but what is it that flies by every so often on J.K.'s website?? I've been slacking on my HP knowledge so it's probably nothing. Somebody please let me know. Something happens to the watch and then something flies by and knocks the pencil cup over. What is that?
If "deathly" refers to something that is dead perhaps we should be thinking about the Inferius - especially because we have not seen them yet and I think we will.
Hallows are saints or spirits/ghosts or holy relics and it can also refer to Halloween, which is the night Harry's parents died. Deathly as an adverb can mean in the manner of death or very; utterly: deathly afraid. So, it can mean almost too many things to count! I don't think it means Death for Harry or she's have chose Deadly instead of Deathly -- she's careful that way.
I heard on a news program that the title had been released, and I started screaming and crying... my neighbors called to see if I was alright :) Micah gets RESULTS! Oh, and the title? Owns. That's all I have to say.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH O-M-F-G!!!!! I just woke up and almost didn't check mugglenet!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! THANK YOU JO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna go call my friend NOW....
Kinda dissapointed because it's kinda bland... But YES!! YES!!! YES!!! I hope the book comes out soon!!!! Thanks Jo.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! It sounds really dark....OMG I CAN NOT WAIT!!!! This is the best Christmas gift ever!!!!
OH... MY... GOD! Christmas cam early again this year... Just like it did two years ago when the release date of Book 6 was first released. I feel like crying! I'M SO EXCITED! It's gonna be fantabulous~ ^________^ I hope a release date is soon to follow! *crosses fingers* I better start digging out the old wand and broom~ ^_^ I'm so happy right now. So, so, SO happy! So happy I can't stop rambling about how happy I am! ^_^ Today is going to be a good day!
A hallow is something or someone who is "holy, sacred" and all that stuff.
so someone back in this thread said they checked the UK patent office (COOL idea btw) and saw that "Hallows of Hogwarts" had been patented but then withdrawn? so my ideas: -something about the Founders -something about how Hogwarts addresses death (the death of Dumbledore, maybe one of its many magical rooms is set aside for troubles of this sort) -the death of Hogwarts itself; its last days as a school? i think the title will need to grow on a lot of us - enh. it sounds hokey and odd, very un-Potterish. but i hated HBP at first and it sounds completely normal now!
WICKED cool title. Merry Chrictmas Jo and all!
I am surprised by the title, but not that it was released today. Today is December 21st. The winter Solstice. JK told us it would be released today in Book 5. In Book 5 in the Dept. of Mysteries, a prophecy was smashed, and we heard a little bit of it. "...and on the solstice will come a new..... and none will come hereafter...". December 21st?! Winter Solstice! I figured if anything was released it would be either today, or on Sunday/Monday [Christmas], but I was more in favor of today.
I think it's a really cool title, and that it's going to be a great book. Too bad it's the last one. :-( But it's still cool.
