EDIT: Some news outlets are reporting the title as "Deathly Hollows," but this is incorrect. Also, for those of you who hadn't noticed, the title was released yesterday on the winter solstice. Recall in OOTP: "...at the solstice will come a new... and none will come after..." At the winter solstice, a new title will be revealed, but as this is the last book, no more will be released.

Terrific! I recall Jo saying she had written the last chapter to the series (thus Book 7) before beginning to write anything else. So, she probably has a few extra weeks to complete the book since that last chapter may only need a bit of tweaking and still get through the nearly six months of editing and revisions. She can still make the 7/7/07 deadline! Hurrah!

Oh. My. God. I'm so excited, but strangly dissapointed, I think Jo might have been able to think of a better title... Deathly Hallows seems so... doomish. But it must be hard to think of amazing titles, so huzzah for Jo!!

Got news!!.... Jo speeks spanish??... don't know... but if you translate the title to spanish it is" harry potter y la muerte santificada"... which is harry potter and the holy death!... something like that! o.O we could relate this with all the harry dies thing!... or at least... all we can say is there is an important death... harry's??... voldemort's??... or someone else's?... maybe Lily??... please send you opinions to fotolog.hpfans@mail.com i'm soooo excited!!
hallows in legends are significant objects that someone on a quest would look for eg a grail quest so sounds like could deffo be a reference to the horcruxes!
Ok, guys, I'm excited too, but read it. It's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! That's hallows with an 'A.' Not hollows with an 'O.' This is not a connection with Godric's Hollow, unfortunately. I want to think it relates somehow either to the Halloween when Voldemort attacked or something regarding the up and coming Hallow's eve. Thoughts, anyone?
Finally!!! :D I didn't understand the title, but after having read some of these comments I am starting to understand some of it. I had been thinking about the 7th title since she started to write the book. Now I know it and I think the 7th book will be really dark and spooky. But that's fine! I like dark and spooky books. I just hope Harry will get at least a few happy moments. Now I am only hoping that they will soon reveal when the book will be out for sale, but I don't think that will happen soon, may be in January. A huge THANK YOU to J.K. Rowling for giving the title and good luck with finishing the book. Also a merry christmas and a happy new year to all, especially J.K.
I was so excited when I discover the door was now unlock that I couldn't click on the package, but really Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is just perfect!!! Did anyone else notice a pattern to the titles? Type 1.) Philospher's/Sorcer's Stone, Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Type 2.) Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix the "'s" is really only an English abbreviation for "of" the titles could just have easily have been "The Stone of the Philospher" or "The Chamber's Secrets" Is it possible the way the titles are arranged hint at the way the books are?
I'm my Computer class, and today is the last day before Christmas break and we're doing absolutely nothing. I only went on Mugglenet by chance, and OMG! This is awesome! I almost collapsed....but I don't like it. Deahtly Hallows? Huh? But still, OMG!!!!!!!!! I'm trying to text my friend, but it's not WORKING! The day I need it! And there's no one around here, no one in this class...=O
Just like everyone else; OMG! I like it, it's so Jo =P But she thought of two or three more titles right? Before this one? I wonder what they were, do you think she'll tell us? I wonder...how long did we have to wait for the actual book after they released the title of HBP? That may give us an idea of how long it will be before this book comes out!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH the end is nigh. I'm not sure about the title, but then you never know what to expect from the title and then they are always amazing anyway. Ooooh its so exciting. But why does it have to end. I will go into mourning for the rest of my life.

This is Doris, Maria and Jessica. We have Research Class together and we all get our own computers. We opened up to our homepages (MuggleNet, of course) and we saw the news and FREAKED!!! Everyone in our Research Class is really scared of us now, and we plan to tell everyone we see in the hallway the news. We highly doubt that we will be able to concentrate in our next two classes...oh well. HOLY CRAP WE CAN'T BELIEVE SHE RELEASED THE TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! (we still think it's a joke, even though we don't want it to be.)

Well, I have only one theory concerning the Deathly Hallows. All Hallow's Eve is Halloween, and didn't Harry's parents die on Halloween? Am I the only one making the sad assumption that Harry will also perish, due to the title's reference to the fate of James and Lilly Potter? I think the Horcruxes are another good theory.

The title of the book is a bit difficult, I don't know what to think about em, my imagination isn't really activated on this term.. :o( But the idea with the theories on mugglecast is brilliant! Can't wait to hear!
The release date for HPATDH will not be in July. The movie is being released in July and they will release both in the same month. Therefore, it is likely that the book will be release later in the year - possibly Halloween considering the books reference to Hallows (All Hallow's Eve).
