Laura Mallory to appeal yet again
Laura Mallory, the mother who has been crusading since August 2005 to remove the Potter books from the County's school libraries, is set to appeal to the County's Superior Court the decision Georgia state made in December to keep the books on shelves.

Mallory said, "We will take a stand for truth, and pray God will touch the hearts of this generation." For the past year and a half, she has vehemently preached that the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. She hasn't, however, actually read the books.

Mallory says she is poised to take legal action and has apparently received "significant donations" from "supporters" in aid of this.

Emerson's Comment: Ever seen a fly crash itself repeatedly into a transparent pane of glass, never quite getting the hint? Yeah.

She "stands for truth?" How about this truth: She's barking mad! She makes christians look like screaming faciasts who are due to start foaming at the mouth any minute! It just makes the rift between christians and the rest of the world even larger. It sets back hundreds of progress we've made making amends for our past behavior. But that's the way of the world I supose. Some christians would die if they didn't feel persecuted, if they didn't see evidence of the Devil's influence wherever they look. So they start seeing it when they get bored of the world and their place in it.

i agree with ya runescape

I'm probably far enough down on the comments list that few will actually read this, and if someone had the thought before me, I apologize as I must confess I've not read all the comments before my own, but I had a thought when I read Laura Mallory is at it again, still having not read the Potter books herself. I can see a future book and/or movie documenting Mallory's crusade..."Georgia Mom takes on The Boy Who Lived"... she isn't really out to get Harry, she's hoping to stir up enough controversy to make a name for herself in hopes of capitalizing on his fame down the road. Trust me when I tell you I wouldn't read or watch ANYTHING she might profit from !

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Jan 18th 2007

omg she really needs to stop...

Posted by dumbledoreswoolnsox_22 Jan 18th 2007

She should really read the books at least!! I mean, if your gonna protest, then read up on the subject first! oh and Emerson ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!!!!! for that comment and the site.

Posted by Avalon Jan 18th 2007

Not AGAIN! Will she every stop?

Posted by Hermione_Granger090894 Jan 18th 2007

GOD THAT WOMAN IS SO.....UGHHHHH!!!!

Posted by Phoenix Jan 18th 2007

*agrees with Emerson wholeheartedly* What is with this woman? Will she never give up? "...already contacted a potential expert witness" Just what we need - another bimbo.

Posted by _cat_lover111_ Jan 18th 2007

she really needs to read the books before she starts making accusations. stupid idiot. no wonder she won that award.

Posted by Greg Jan 18th 2007

This is the type of blatant idiocy that makes people hate Christianity.

Posted by hermioneish7 Jan 18th 2007

You know, I don't understand how she could honestly be this close minded and stupid. Seriously, she claims that the books promote witchcraft yet she has never actually read the books. That not only makes her stupid but it also makes her ignorant. How does she know anything about it if she has never read it. When Harry Potter first came out, I was against it because I thought it was about dark stuff, you know withcraft like the kind people really believe in, but I figured I should read one to see for myself and I was so surprised. Now I am one of the biggest HP fanatics ever!! It's a fiction book, based on fictional characters and fictional things and if a child believes in it, then shouldnt it be a parents job to teach them otherwise. I mean most kids, if they are old enough to read, will know that its just a book and not real life. I am Christian, completely, but nothing in the Bible says we cant enjoy books or anything only as long as we don't try to "practice" withcraft. Honestly, I marvel at how close minded and ignorant she is. She will learn.

Posted by Ronaldweasley Jan 18th 2007

Is this person CRAZY!!!!!! Cmon she hasnt even read the books in the books there is barely any magic in the books if she would just sit down and read one of the books she would understand how there is barely any magic in them she is crazy i say....She just needs to shut up and let people read the books they are amazing books she should just sit on the couch and read one of the books! And this strike stuff and messing with the council or what ever is INSANE! Deal with it lady!....(all i have 2 say)

Posted by Hp_fan009 Jan 18th 2007

I feel BAD for her kids i mean too have such a crazy mom. I mean come on

Posted by my_ceddyteddy Jan 18th 2007

STUPID WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not like Harry Potter fans actually believe that we can do magic!! It's entertainment when will people understand that? I mean I go to a Catholic school and of course everyone knows only God can do "magic." IT'S JUST ENTERTAINMENT LADY!!!!!!!

Posted by harry_kissed_ginny Jan 18th 2007

HOW STUPID CAN SOMEONE BE

Posted by Micino Jan 18th 2007

Just when she was announced "Idiot of the Year," she does it again. Emerson's comparison to a fly is so right.

Posted by sillyme Jan 18th 2007

And yet another oppurtunity for the defeat of laura mallory! i loved the fly metaphor--fits the situation perfectly imho

Posted by doodles_and_spuds Jan 18th 2007

well said hermioneish! i totally agree with u! im an irish christian, my parents never banned me 4m readin HP they understand that HP is FICTION! honestly that woman is MAD! totally bonkers... can the mugglecast do an interview with her? it would be VERY interesting to hear what kind of rubbish she'd come out with... heehee! just totally bonkers...

Posted by Lee_Jordan2010 Jan 18th 2007

Is it only me who noticed that Harry Potter celebrates Christmas AND Easter (mentioned in the first book)? It's people like this woman who give us Christians bad NAMES!

Posted by hpintwense06 Jan 18th 2007

wow, people are actually giving her donations in SUPPORT of her? who, i'd like to know, is supporting her? I guess they MUST be the reason she is appealing again... but she will definately lose! I'm sorry, but she's ALREADY tried to get this book off the library shelves in her area, which CLEARLY did not work! And as said on a pervious MuggleCast, there was a UNANIMOUS decision to not remove the books! GOSH!

Posted by voldy1788 Jan 18th 2007

Laura Mallory has amazing determination and perserverance. Why does she waste it on something as stupid as banning a good book series? She could actually make a difference in the world if she decided to do something USEFUL, but instead she wastes both her time and the court's time with something incredibly stupid. I love the fly comparison, by the way. It fits perfectly.

Posted by MattieSilver Jan 18th 2007

Does she know the title of Book 7? I know we all do, but I'll repeat it to emphasize my point. Yeah, its the Deathly Hallows. For those of you (and Ms. Mallory is obviously one of them) who don't know what a "Hallow" is, I've taken it upon myself to look up the definition. 1. to make holy; sanctify; consecrate. 2. to honor as holy; consider sacred; venerate: to hallow a battlefield. Sure, adding the word "deathly" kind of cancels out the good conotation of the word "hallows", but Lucifer was an angel before he became the Devil, and there are other sources mentioning an Angel of Death. Notice: the word Angel is still capitalized, and therefore important. I believe I'm going to have to quote Uncle Vernon here. "Enough-effing-" appeals (American OotP, 32).

Posted by charmed3 Jan 18th 2007

*snort* So, who's going to define "insanity" to Mrs. Mallory? Though she DID say that she'd try again when she was denied. And you know what else? She's appealing to human nature: The quickest way to get something read/done/etc is to say "don't do it". I giggle at her.

Posted by GinnyandHarryForever Jan 18th 2007

JUST GIVE UP ALREADY! I think we can all only watch this trainwreck so many times.

Posted by bwof Jan 18th 2007

@ greg; it´s not christianity one should hate, more like people like mallory who doesn´t seem to get it. at.all.has she even read the book? (soorry, that has probably been asked too many times).

Posted by iheartmugglecast Jan 18th 2007

No Emerson, I haven't. But I have seen a bird. Quite funny really. =D It was so cute.

Posted by pig Jan 18th 2007

Those poor children of hers what a boring life they have led. We try to en rich our children by encouraging them to read excellent fiction. Who knows what books they are allowed to read, am sure we will not see them as the novelists of tomorrow

Posted by Regulus_Black Jan 18th 2007

Has the world gone crazy?!?! Not once in her wonderful books has our lovely JK even mentioned Lucifer...or anything devil-related, that i can remember!!! I don't think that woman isn't ever going to win her appeal. Well done JK for not letting this get to her.

Posted by Smeagol Jan 18th 2007

This woman needs to give it up. Lets face it, she's a no hoper. Harry Potter is just a bit of harmless fantasy novels. There are millions of books out there about "witchcraft". Man I am glad I don't have her as a mother. I fell sorry for the her children. They must get so embarressed. *shakes head and walks away*

Posted by scurvy_cur Jan 18th 2007

ahahahaaa! Emerson puts it perfectly, it's just ridiculous now!

Posted by doodles_and_spuds Jan 18th 2007

oh i just cant stop laughin @ her shes so darn silly!!! o yeah greg ur not a nice person if u condemn 1 group because of stupid people doin crap when they just happen to be christian. mallory is deluded and ignorant. u greg shouldnt be. just a bit of advice. im sorry 4 bein rude but u werent nice 2 be sayin mean things as such.

Posted by voldy1788 Jan 18th 2007

I'm posting again because I have something esle to say. There are TONS of books, movies, and video games out there that are full of guns and people killing each other for no reason. Lots of little kids spend a lot of time watching TV shows filled with curse words and playing video games where the object is to kill as many people as you can. And Laura Mallory attacks a children's book series because it involves some teenagers waving wands... Seems a little messed up to me.

Posted by golfmodel Jan 18th 2007

OMG what a loser i mean truely its one thing if she actually read the books and then still decied that they " created withcraft " or whatever. And truely is one women going to stop thousands of kids to read the MOST AMAZING BOOKS EVER!!! theres no point wasting your time lady. move on to some other hobby b/c this one is going to get you nowhere. Try curling it might be a good substitue.

Posted by Fuzzykitten99 Jan 18th 2007

There's a quote that I read once. I can't remember who said it or how it went exactly, but it was something like: "I do no fear a child's inability to distinguish fiction from reality, as much as I do an adult's." Like I said, I don't think that is exact, but it is close. And it is a good one. If children KNOW this is fantasy and fictional, even if they were wishing it were true, they still have a better grip on reality than many adults do in this situation. Heck, I wish there was a wizarding world. I don't care if I have no abilites, I would still hang out there if I could. Maybe because of the whole idea that magic would defy physics on such a level, it would be cool just to see people disaparate, turn objects into animals, and all that stuff that illusionist magicians have been doing for years, but with the help of the slight of hand, mirrors, special props, etc.

Posted by lumos_aeternum Jan 18th 2007

Ok, we need two things to happen. First, when she goes up to speak before the Superior Court, we need a coalition of MNers to stand up in the back and shout, "She's a witch, burn her!!!" Secondly, we need a pair of MNers to approach her house and try to preach the Word of Potter, as a good "cult" should. Any takers?

Posted by Witchy_Woman Jan 18th 2007

ARGH! Does she really think that she can take this all the way up to the Supreme Court? They will not take this case. This is unconstitutional. She cannot think that anyone will take her seriously. I have only one thing to say to her: Get thee behind me, Satan.

Posted by NoOneWouldListen Jan 18th 2007

It's so obvious that she's never going to win that I've given up on being mad at her. Now she's just an endless source of amusement! Great metaphor, Emerson! :D

Posted by aliceandjasper Jan 18th 2007

Some people just don´t know when to stop... she is so ridiculus

Posted by mandybrocklehurst Jan 18th 2007

wow, can you imagine what kind of potential for good she could have if she put this much effort into a REAL cause, like fighting child abuse or world hunger? man....

Posted by AmericanHermione Jan 18th 2007

If she had read the books, people might consider what she has to say, but how can she expect respect (hey, that rhymes =D) if she's judging something she does not understand! Does she believe that even touching its filthy cover will taint her with wickedness?

Posted by gandalfxj9 Jan 18th 2007

Wow are you kidding? This woman will do anything to get these books off the shelves!!! But that's not the point we MUST PRAY TO THE DEVIL AND HOPE THAT HE CAN PUT A STOP TO HER!!!!! Lol or mabey we should just do the avada kadavra curse!!! what do you guys think is more effective????

Posted by AntiUmbrisge16 Jan 18th 2007

Hi guys, What I want to know is where her proof is that HP is making kids do Wicca. She says that HP books have directly led to kids doing Wicca. I want to see proff and if so, well then some people took the books too seriously. I also don't understand why she thinks she should be able to control other kids' abilities to read the HP series. She hasn't even read the series so how would she know the first thing about HP? Just because it's so popular doesn't mean that it's a bad thing. I agree with many people who have written that J.K. Rowling has touched the hearts of this generation. Plus, hasn't she seen that most everyone in the judicial system that she's come across has pretty muched dismissed her case? Think she would take a hint? NO! Why can't she put all this hard work towards something useful? Like the enviroment, poverty, etc. etc. ETC.! Get it through ytour head Laura, we like HP because it's a wonderful STORY, not the latest religion. I believe in God and Jesus and they are my number one. HP is just something that makes me appreciate my life even more and helps me when i'm down. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Patronus Jan 18th 2007

what the hell. how stupid can you be?... she has a very weak case, considering that she has never read the books, and can't justify her claims... and she has no business trying to impose her ideas on other children than her own. i feel sorry for her kids, personally. poor brainwashed kids. she gives christians a bad name... we're not all like that, i promise... my dad's an attorney, and he says she won't win any of her appeals. she has no defense.

Posted by ccnerd38 Jan 18th 2007

Give it up moron

Posted by Harryfan20 Jan 18th 2007

I really don't agree with her, but I think that it is sad how vehemetly people are opposed to her. I mean, I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but honestly guys, let's lay off with all the negativity around here. I think everyone understands that she is wrong to do this, and hasn't read the books, but calm down a little.

Posted by CedricLover125 Jan 18th 2007

GIVE UP LADY!!!!! "TOUCH WHAT HEARTS OF THE GENERATION" YOU ARE JUST GOING TO BE TURNED DOWN AGAIN AND YOU WILL BE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!
