Awww Harry Potter should be number one! lol but the other books are good, too.

Posted by Ralphman Mar 1st 2007

It beat the Bible! Can't believe that! I couldn't live without HP but the Bible should be a whole other category, it can't be compared to fiction books!

Posted by ginny53 Mar 1st 2007

I am here still Susan. Thats cool I am 13 too. And Roxtar, you jsut turnned 14. We are all relativly close in age.

Posted by marauderingly Mar 1st 2007

Ack, Jane Eyre's on the list? Oy vey....I had to read that book for English class a couple of years ago and I hated every minute of it. Honestly, who would want to read about the relationship between an annoying, impoverished 18-year-old and her rude, snobby, I've-gone-blind-but-fear- not-I'll-gain-my-eyesight -back-when-our-son-is-bor n 50-year-old lover anyway? The other books on this list seem alright though (with the exceptions of the Bible (why is this even on here?) and Wuthering Heights).

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 1st 2007

ahhh everybody got off now we cant discuss are plans to fly away to the enchanted castle what a shame :[ oh well i guess i will go stalk harry potter by myself. MrsRoXtarPotter- yeah i guess its not that cool living in arizona (replying to ur last post) its freakin hot all the time and kinda boring right now it is like 75 or 80 degrees KILLA. anyways yeah i was gonna guess ur age but then i had to get off and i was thinking that u were younger because how we were fighting over the amazingly hott harry potter haha..... so yeah i guessing you were younger then 30 thats so old. lol. im so glad all that crap drama is over no one else bring it up anymore just harry potter and draco malfoy.... I LOVE HARRY POTTER and all the awesome fans.

Posted by Savvy32500 Mar 1st 2007

okay, for me, Harry Potter would definitely be on the top of the list. && thats sad because, im a Christian so the Bible SHOULD be first. but its not. oops....=[[. at least im being honest here. i read HP way more than the Bible. i hope the man upstairs isnt too angry with me....

Posted by ConCon Mar 1st 2007

im personally christian and i go to a christian school, and that doesnt mean i dont like harry potter more than the bible. i know its probably not the 'best' thing i can do, but hey, its not my fault. oh- and for mallory. anyone with a contact should let her know that my religion teacher has harry potter in the classroom on its own shelf.....:D

Posted by Witchy_Woman Mar 1st 2007

Okay, after I posted earlier, I went back and reviewed some of the other comments and I am, once again, sickened to my very core. We're all on this site for one reaon, right? Because we like (love) the Harry Potter series. At least, I was under the impression that was why we were here. But I must have been mistaken. Whenever something remotely touching religion is posted. And I say, why does it matter? I mean really, why the f**ck should it matter? All we want to do is fight with one another. We can't seem to control ourselves. And I know that the storm is over and that most of the people are logged off, but I feel that it is my obligation to state my thoughts. For all those who have been wondering how the bible could have come in 6th, I may have an answer for you if you would like it. First, I will remind you all that Christianity does not encompass the whole of humanity. Hinduism and Islam are huge. Even in the west. Secondly, I will say that even those of the "Christian" faith are not raised in a devoutly religious envirornment. I have plenty of friends who say "I guess I'm Christian, but I never go to church." Now thirdly, I will say that when asked to name books that I couldn't live without, I would not even consider the bible at first. (And I live in a strong Catholic household) It just wouldn't come to my mind because how many of us (and let's be honest) actually sit our little butts down and just read the bible in our spare time? I don't. Does that make me a terrible person? I don't think so. I really hope not. I've no doubts that some of us do, but most of us? Most of us do not read the bible for recreational purposes. I do my damndest to respect everybody and his cat for what they believe. We all need to at least try. Because the world will be a much better place when we do. Now, I am the Witchy Woman. I am Catholic. I love you all. But I love Snape more. Can the world be normal again now?

Yay for Pride and Prejudice. Definitely worthy of the number one spot. And I am so glad that HP didn't beat out LOTR. No offense, but LOTR is WAY better than HP IMO...and this is coming from a HP fan, so don't scream and yell at me, okay.

That is so great! Harry Potter will definately go down in history as one of the best books in the world. And people, let's stop trying to have arguments and just post a comment like we are supposed to. Lately there have been a lot of arguments on Mugglenet and it makes me really sad to see fellow HP lovers fighting. We should all stick together! ~R~

Posted by MikeB Mar 1st 2007

My goodness this is funny. Wonder why it's only books of fiction though. Me - Harry Potter would be definitly among my top ten, but so would the collected works of Friedrich Nietzsche and a few other philosophy books. As for the bible discussion: Yes, in the bible god commits acts of genocide, tells his followers to kill all the men, women, children and cattle of the enemy and then gets mad because the cattle was left alive. And then of course there's the immensly moral thing of having everyone who is not a devout christian spend eternity in agony - hell. So non-believers have deserved eternal agony - how moral. I don't think it's wrong to bash the bible since it endorses these things. To me, being humane demands criticising religion where it endorses inhumane practice. Now the teachings of Jesus is something different, I truly think they're okay... but that's like not even 10% of the bible... the entire old testament condones genocide and a lot more inhumane practices, and the new testament, well - hell is an invention of the new testament, and that's about as intolerant and inhumane as you can get: "All who don't believe what we believe have to suffer in hell for all eternity" ... sorry, I'm much too moral to believe in anything which condonse that way of thinking. Yes, I'm an atheist, and a student of philosophy, and a humanist, and the only movement I can currently endorse is that of the "brights", though it's a stupid name. Google for Dennett+Dawkins+brights. And most importantly I think true morality does not come out of a book or a religion, but out of compassion, rationality and a will to do one's part to help others. Sorry bout the rant... felt it was neccessary.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 1st 2007

hahah so true roxtar!!! i forgot ill have to tell him about it lol. what is the UT anyways i never got caught up on all that haha..... oh and you can just call me alizzle thats my nick name. i know WORD. anyways..... do think the cast can take the time off so we dont have to wait grrr.....roxtar do you have MSN or AIM?

Posted by Jarvey Mar 1st 2007

Wow - that's an awesome list of books. I've read about all of those.

Posted by MrsRoXtarPotter Mar 1st 2007

its a little weerd susan... but not too much...... alizzle my aim is hpfreak0912.... urs is agen wat???? i'll try and go on soon drn these 3 mins and lol about the cast takin off... lol

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 1st 2007

hah nvm..... too much to explain.......wait what do you want my AIM again or what im confused AHHHHH lol.

Posted by MikeB Mar 1st 2007

Oh darn, sorry. Didn't want to start it all over again. Let's see if I can undo some of the damage: I truly respect people's religiouseness no matter what religion as long as it doesn't condone violence and/or intolerance. I may think it's irrational, but that doesn't mean I don't respect. I stand by what I said, but I did want to add that I meant no disrespect in any way. As for the other books on the list - LOTR is great, but seriously, I've read it before all the hype with movies - and I don't think it's better than HP, it's just entirely different. 1984 is a truely awesome book, and would have deserved a higher ranking. And what I seriously miss is (but I realize this is sort of niche) Stanislaw Lem's Solaris - what a great book. Then of course it's just books in English, and I happen to think that Hesse, Goethe, Kafka and some more German authors just can't be beat when it comes to fiction... :) And (as I said) there would be a few philosophical books on my list: The collected works of Friedrich Nietzsche, Daniel Dennett etc. - Arrr, too many wonderful books to make a ranking.... :)
