Rumor: UK 'Deathly Hallows' 608 pages
British book chain Waterstone's is currently listing Deathly Hallows on their website as having 608 pages. If correct, this would make the US edition around 688 pages long.

However, it should be noted that the site also lists Half-Blood Prince with 608 pages, so Waterstone's could simply be using that page count as an estimate for Deathly Hallows. In addition, generally this type of information is released to the public (via JKRowling.com or her publishers) first.

Please consider this very much a rumor for now, and we will update you with more information as soon as possible.

Thanks to Tom for the heads-up!

Maybe us americans use bigger fonts...or smaller books!

Posted by Deadly Mar 19th 2007

i want the book to be longer so it takes a week to read not a day. come on . i will finish it within the day i get it. it cannot end in a day. plus can JKR say everything to end the book in those many pages. harrys gotta go to a wedding, dursleys, parents grave, find horcruzes, have some romance with ginny, more horcruzes, kill snape, kill bellatrix, kill voledmort, more romeance and end the book. 608 page not enough.

Posted by PsychoticTigre Mar 19th 2007

It should be longer. In fact, it should be WAY longer. Like...as long as OOTP. Or longer. That'd be fantastic.

Posted by RKRK1313 Mar 19th 2007

and the reason that the american versions end up 80 pages longer is simply because the american version is designed very differently. there are alot of graphics, chapter art, larger margins, and for some reason the spacing is rather large... the font itself is not huge so us 'stupid' americans can read it -- its actually rather normal sized. im going to take a wild guess (since i have never seen any UK editions) and say that the British ones don't have alot of that stylized book design type stuff... instead its probably very much designed like a regular book..... I happen to like the american versions because they (again i dont know for sure) seem more elaborate and special... however, im on board for whatever saves paper.

Posted by Deadly Mar 19th 2007

yes i agree PsychoticTigre . i love long books which are a great read. and i class JKR work as the best so i wouldnt care if it were a mile long.

Posted by Noodles Mar 19th 2007

Yes, the American editions have chapter art, but also their font is slightly larger. They also have things like contents, which take a few extra pages. Judging by the fact HBP was also 608, it seems highly unlikely that this is true, not least because this would mean DH being small then GoF. Also, the chances of two books being the same, especially consecutive ones, are miniscule.

Posted by SiriusEqualsLuv Mar 19th 2007

interesting rumor..... but i think it will be longer (hopefully). SarahTheBeanSprout 8- the american version is longer because it has chapter art and bigger margins.... it has nothing to do with the story. Usually the American versions are the same as the British version.... it just has maybe a few different words..... I also don't see why you think its "unfair"; we're lugging around a bigger book anyways.

Posted by Deadly Mar 19th 2007

it is most likely to be a rumour as JKR is most likely to tell us herself on her site or through bloomsbury the length of the book.

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Mar 19th 2007

Deadly: I don't see why it has to be so long, you summarized it up (minus the snape part X) ) in a couple of sentences!

Posted by Quidditchgirl24 Mar 19th 2007

well that sucks!

Posted by Deadly Mar 19th 2007

i going to sleep and hopefully when i wake up JKR will have released the cover of DH instead. which will make my day.

Posted by AliceFO Mar 19th 2007

I don't know why everyones moaning. I'm happy with whatever I get and I'm pretty happy with the 600 region, its not THAT small, and its better than nothing, jeez!

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever Mar 19th 2007

SCPGOH_ad24 she probably wouldn't, but she might if someone asked for a bigger book...highly unlikely though...-_-

Posted by RuSirius Mar 19th 2007

I hope that the book it way longer than that! It has to be because there is so much to explain. I cant wait until it comes out, only 123 days! :)

Posted by snapefan4 Mar 19th 2007

Yeah! They finally have a page estimatiion but truthfully I wanted it to be a bit longer as to make the book live longer but 688 pages is quit long so I am pretty happy. It will most likely take me about 3 days to read it because, I am sure most of you will agree to this, I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Posted by dumbledorephoenix Mar 19th 2007

No, they got their facts wrong. There is no way that it is that short. It should either be 777 pages, or 7,777,777 pages of writing. Maybe thats why it took so long to write. lol, jk. That would be awesome, but a lot of people losing eye sight and sleep. lol, well hope we find out soon. I hope JK debunks this rumor by saying its more, or even giving us an exact number. Here's to hoping :)

Posted by walros Mar 19th 2007

no way can j.k. answer all the questions and tie up all the loose end in that short of a book ............or at least i dont hope so

Posted by Dumbledorelives Mar 19th 2007

While this is probably just an estimate based on HBP, I do hope it's much longer. I was hoping for somewhere in the 700's. If not, oh well. Let JKR have her way, I guess. They are her books.

Posted by swedenrose3 Mar 19th 2007

"mindless nothingness..."??? Wit h so many loose ends to tie up!? Never. Heck she could introduce a bunch of new stuff and it would still be worth the read. Everything but more quiddich. I am not a big fan of that, but writing in detail what Rons toes look like and what kind of hair gel Mertle used to used...I am so there! :-)

Posted by wishmyhairwasred Mar 19th 2007

608 pages of pure goodness!

Posted by snapefan4 Mar 19th 2007

RyAn2006, I do like your therory but if you compair the font size of both books, I might be seeing things, you might notice that the US version has a slightly larger font size, but if anyone out there has the answer, that is the 100% correct answer, PLEASE post it.

Posted by TomMarvoloRiddle Mar 19th 2007

I doubt that it is really 608, though I think it will be around that mark - she has a lot to get through. I would much rather it be good than long. I won't believe anything that's not on jkrowling.com.

Posted by Glubad Mar 19th 2007

WHY is the US edition longer? Maybe because they have to change words and plot to US society accepted standards or whatever course, the UK version of HBP was great too

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 19th 2007

thats cool, it better not be less, but i really hope it's more!!!!!!!! DH needs to last me a while since its the last one... * sobs uncontrolibly* :( tear tear

Posted by SilentBob Mar 19th 2007

I agree that a long book may not be a good book if it is filled with nonsense, but as I've come to understand it, JK Rowling's work has very little if any nonsense within in. The vast majority of the series is packed with fun and interesting plot and detail. This is the last book of the series, and I doubt JK will disappoint.

Posted by potterchick Mar 19th 2007

I hope it's longer than book 6

Posted by rowena Mar 19th 2007

boo! if this isnt a rumor( highly and almost definatly unlikely) i would be very mad.. i want more pages. i never want to be able to finish the book. it needs to be a neverending book!!!

Posted by Donkeykongjr Mar 19th 2007

If it is 608 pages I will be considerably disapointed in jkr because i would know she was too lazy, like she did with half blood prince. Im praying for more than 800 pages.

Posted by GreekOcclumens Mar 19th 2007

I would be infuriated if it turned out to be only around 600 pages. I was expecting over 900. Wow, that bursted my bubble big time. It BETTER be a rumour!!!

Posted by Donkeykongjr Mar 19th 2007

well, I was disapointed when I found out that half blood prince was smaller than goblet of fire. Let us hope that deathly hallows is bigger than order of the phoenix.

Posted by GABZx3 Mar 19th 2007

that is WAY too short of pages =[ *cries* I WANT MORE PAGES! OotP was too short too..it needs to be like 34850345 pages!!! lolz

Posted by Hermy_Own6 Mar 19th 2007

I don't care how long the book is, I just wanna read it! I would read an HP book if it was 5,000 pages long! Especially if it's the last one. But I highly doubt JK would make DH 5,000 pages long without having to put in "mindless nothingness."

Posted by Grey Mar 19th 2007

I'm taking a deep breath and telling myself that atleast the rummer is that it's shorter than 608. I think I'll be able to live with 608, of course, I would rather it be a billion bajillion pages long, but I think that I will survive if it's only 608. I can't let myself be disapointed. I'll be OK. Please let me be OK.

Posted by janegallagher Mar 19th 2007

here's my theory: it seems like it would be longer than HBP, because i consider the first 3 books exposition (which is why they're so short). 4 & 5 are significantly longer because they contain more plot information leading up to "the big one". 6 was shorter (i think) because it was really just one big long (albeit AWESOME) lead-in to DH, where the real stuff goes down. anyways, that's why, by my thinking, DH will be longer than HBP, because it's what HBP was leading up to.

Posted by hpintwense06 Mar 19th 2007

hmmmm..... yeah i will take this as a rumor. i hope that there are like, a whole lotta pages and that it is a verrrrrrry long book. i will definately be looking for Jo's official word on this!!!

Posted by photogenicmusic Mar 19th 2007

I hope that's not true. That's not nearly long enough to suffice my need of a huge book.

Posted by hpwiz812 Mar 19th 2007

well 600 its not bad, but i at least wanted something closer to OotP, but i dont care! right now, all i want is to see the freaking cover art! hopefully it will be out soon since the announcements of the title and release dates were a little over a month apart, meaning that the cover is due soon....XD

Posted by LindaW Mar 19th 2007

I don't believe it's true but for those of you who were expecting 1000 or more pages, are you forgetting how quickly she finished this book??? I'll be expecting 700 at the most, but considering she already had the ending planned out......okay. Maybe 800 at the most. Trust me, I'd love 100000000000000 pages, but still, she finished really fast......

Posted by Peevsie Mar 19th 2007

I'm glad this is just a rumor, I hope it is much longer. I am hoping for about 1000 pages. That would be ideal.

Posted by christianaeg Mar 19th 2007

has to be a rumor! The only thing i'm believeing is what comes out of the RoR...

Posted by deathly101 Mar 19th 2007

Its gotta be longer than that! i finished HBP in 1 day! i dont wanna finish DH in 1 day. i want it to NEVER END! PLZ BE LONGER, PLZ BE LOOOOOOONGER!!!!!!

Posted by Clean0002 Mar 19th 2007

I don't believe this at all! There is no way they are done editing yet so how would they know the page count? JK is one who said the reason the book is being released at the end of July instead of the beginning is because they need enough time for the book to properly be edited.

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE Mar 19th 2007

i like the length... but i was exoecting more.

Posted by TEWl Mar 19th 2007

Personally I would be very disappointed in J.K. Rowling if she didn't make this book the longest. 600 or so pages is just to short.

Posted by Iteka Mar 19th 2007

I was always hoping for a length of at least 900 pages, maybe even the big 1,000. But 608? Definately not - this has to be a rumour. 780 is better. It will make it the longest book in the series (going on the British numbering system - OotP was 766), but I'd personally want it to be longer. DH at the VERY least should be the longest in the series, if not adding a couple (or more) hundred pages on top of that.

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Mar 19th 2007

I highly doubt it has the exact same number of pages as HBP. Why bother posting news that is most likely not true?

Posted by demonchild13 Mar 19th 2007

I hope its longer than that! I'm rooting for DH to be longer than Order of the Phoenix. Anyone else with me?

Posted by hermioneexpert Mar 19th 2007

it better longer since there is going to be a lot more information in it.
