'Deathly Hallows' audiobook to accompany book release
It was announced today that the US Deathly Hallows audiobook will be released on July 21st - the same day as the book itself.

The Listening Library (which creates the audiobooks) also said that the story will run over 21 hours and will retail for $79.95. The first print was not announced, but a representative at Random House was quoted as saying it will "definitely" be higher than the HBP print of 635,000.

Oh man, this summer is going to ROCK!

Posted by tonksinlimegreenflipflops Mar 26th 2007

Thats great for people who can't actually read the books! Makes it much more..fair. But then again, I don't know how long after the previous books came out did the audio books. (Yes, I know Horrible grammar, sorry)

Posted by prideboy28 Mar 26th 2007

I personally listen to the audiobooks EVERYDAY so I'm glad they will be coming out the same day.. even though HBP was too.

Posted by Emell Mar 26th 2007

WOW, thats cool Maybe I'll get that and have someone else read it to me instead of reading it WOW,,,,

Posted by smurff Mar 26th 2007

that's perfect because I'm planning a cartrip this summer... :D:D:D:D

Posted by Squeaky Mar 26th 2007

I'm a slow reader so audiobooks are good for me! It's only 21 hours long and it'd take me way longer to read it mayself!

Posted by isa Mar 26th 2007

Oh, that's great. I love the audio books, I have them all. I am so excited. I love the guy who reads them. I play them for my little sister a lot of times. July 21 will be super exciting.

Posted by bspice Mar 26th 2007

I like the Audiobooks. not as good as reading of course.

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 26th 2007

AHHHHH !!!!!! this summer is the best!!!!!! AHHHHHH i luv hp!!!! top 10?

Posted by HpAlwaysN4ever Mar 26th 2007

Doesn't it always come out the same day as the book? It's pretty expensive.

Posted by pHoAtRtReYr Mar 26th 2007

SICK! I LOVE SUMMER '07!!!!!! HP MOVIE, HP BOOK, CAMP< THIS AUDIOBOOK, AND MY B-DAY!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by dune9694 Mar 26th 2007

Ohhh i LOVE how he reads all the books cant wait!

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 26th 2007

yeah so that is kinda expensive!!! is the voice by Jim Dale??? i luv him, he makes me laugh!!! 21 hours is a long time!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

Posted by MarseaMalfoy Mar 26th 2007

I like the audiobooks a lot because I tend to skip over things when I first read the books... you know, to find out what happens... and having the audiobook makes me listen to everything. As long as it's Jim Dale, I am getting it!... and the book. I better start saving now.

Posted by Enaidyl Mar 26th 2007

Expensive. But nice. I especially envy the person who's going to voice it over - I mean, he get to read it first. LOL.

Posted by animefan389 Mar 26th 2007

oh wow, that's so cool!!! so those who can't buy the book have at least some way of knowing what happened.

Posted by shellz1388 Mar 26th 2007

Ha.. great. Another excuse to be lazy. No, I'm glad. This summer is going to rock faces.

Posted by christianaeg Mar 26th 2007

Whoa I'm gonna have to do some babysitting to get that!! i always take the audio tapes at the midninght launches cause i can do this realllllly weird thing where i go into a semi hypnotic state and listen and sleep... weird lol! didn't realize i was doing it for years!

Posted by megblack89 Mar 26th 2007

Thats so funny! I was only thinking last night that I want to drive to my states capital city, and go to my first release party...but I will want to drive home listening to the audio.... Still think I will stick to reading the book first! Awesome though

Posted by merry_muggle Mar 26th 2007

That's really good! What about the guy who does the voice over...lcuky them!

Posted by Lorione Mar 26th 2007

This means that Jim Dale knows the ending already (or will any day now) !

Posted by dumbledorephoenix Mar 26th 2007

I agree, Merry Muggle. I wish that I was that person. I probably wouldnt be very good at it though. JKR's lawyers would make me sign like 1,000,000 secrecy clauses an make me take the unbreakable vow of not talking about the plot. I would die. lol. If i knew all of the secrets, I couldnt keep it in. But it would totaly be worth it. I would pay to have his job, lol. This is gunna be the best and most eventful summer in history.

Posted by dementor Mar 26th 2007

thats pretty cool. lol dumbledorephoenix, i think I'd prefer to wait for the actual release, its much more exciting that way and you get to be part of all the hype.

Posted by myr613657 Mar 26th 2007

Absolutely fabulous! I love the audio books I can put them on my MP3 player and take them anywhere. But I do read all the books in print first and then follow up with the audio. There is just a different feel when you read the actually book as opposed to listening to it. I tend to miss some very crucial aspects when just listening to the audio books. The actual books really give you a more tangible experience. But I totally appreciate the audio for it quick HP fix and reference purposes.

Posted by grandaftershock Mar 26th 2007

What! That means some lucky fool with an excellent reading voice is going to know the book before everyone else! I think that JK Rowling should be the one reading it. It's the last book--it's fitting that she be the one to close it out!

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE Mar 26th 2007

thats way kool. one of my friends is albino, so she can't read very good. her parents always try to get her the audio books so she still gets the story. i think that if you are just buying the audio books because you are to lazy to actually read it, then get a life.

Posted by Rice12345 Mar 26th 2007

cant wait for DH ='D

Posted by xhpluva4evax Mar 26th 2007

I have to say. I love the audiobooks. Although, I've only bought the OotP and HBP ones. Though, I hate Jim Dale. Well, only because he gets to read the book one or two months BEFORE US! ughh. lucky -bleep- :]

Posted by palmerlady49 Mar 26th 2007

Dude. Listening to the audio books is pretty awesome. Ya know, after you read them of course. It is time consuming, though.

Posted by i_loverz_HP Mar 26th 2007

SWEET for people that like them i honestly like just sitting down and reading them my selves its more fun and its harder for me to understand the audio cuz its not going directly into my brain you know???......ok cool! but i cant WAIT until DH its gonna be the best day ever ahhh.... TIIIIIIGHT......Lol

Posted by Grey Mar 26th 2007

I'm going to listen to the audio while reading the book. I know that most people like to read them the first time around, but I know that it will probably take me less time to listen to it than read it (since I have dyslexia). It will probably be the shortest 21 hours of my life. It will go by like nothing. I will just listen and read without pause for the whole 21 hours. Eating or sleeping (or going to the bathroom, for that matter!) seem trivial when compared to having book 7 in your hands!

Posted by oakshaft79pn Mar 26th 2007

HPgeek4LIFE: Just wondering why being albino would make it harder to read the books? On the topic of audio books, last christmas my sisters made me an audio recording of the first book. they recorded themselves reading it into a tape recorder for 7 hours. they played different parts and had different vioces, it is really cool. especially the voice of firenze, they both spoke in ethereal whispers at the same time, it sounded awesome. now we are all working on the second book and im getting the first one and downloading it on my ipod.

Posted by iwishiwashermione Mar 26th 2007

i love the audiobooks! jim dale is fantastic at creating the voices for the different characters. personally, i like the US version (Jim Dale) better than the British audiobook version (Stephen Fry)

Posted by Hermione_Granger090894 Mar 26th 2007

Oh this is great! I find it a bit expensive though..(*But thats just my opinion*) This is going to be THE greatest summer of my LIFE. :)

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 27th 2007

Posted by oakshaft79pn 30 minutes ago HPgeek4LIFE: Just wondering why being albino would make it harder to read the books im not HPgeek4LIFE obviously but i no from this book i had to read in school called Ghost Boy this kid was albino and aparently they have really sensitive eyes in the sun and plus really bad eyesite or whatever... so yeah i guess that kinda answers the question. kinda. but as u can tell im really bored! lol... so i dont really no... neway i already commented so im just gonna leave it at that!

Posted by Grey Mar 27th 2007

Oakshaft79pn, that is a really, REALLY good idea! That is the best present idea that I've ever heard in my entire life! And you could give it to all your friends at the end. And it would be something that you would always have and you could listen to it years and years later! I'm sorry I sound so excited, but I just think that it's a good idea! Kudos to you, your sister and everyone else. You know you could probably record books for the National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (and get a bit of money for it) not to mention helping a bunch of people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy the book. You should look into it some time! (google it or something):)

Posted by july21tillhp7 Mar 27th 2007

80$ is to much...

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 27th 2007

I don't listen to the audio books. I prefer reading. But I heard part of one once when my sister started GoF. They sounded pretty good. It would take me a lot longer to listen than to actually read it though. 115 days!!!

Posted by Kievan Mar 27th 2007

Wow, that is awesome. I haven't listened to the audiobooks before but I'm sure they're wonderful, I prefer the page personally. But July promises to be an amazing month!

Posted by opal Mar 27th 2007

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I' m nearly blind and with the audiobook, it will be possible for me too knowing what happens in book 7 in july!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Posted by vigal Mar 27th 2007

hey opal I am legally blind too! anyway great to hear about he auidobook. However, it didn't say who is narrating I hope its jim dale the usual american narrator...

Posted by vigal Mar 27th 2007

Hey nm I read the actual news post and jim dale and stephen fry are back again for the last and fineal book!! yeah!!!

Posted by mithrilarrow Mar 27th 2007

That's great! I commute to work a total of 2 hours a day minimum. These audio books are a life-saver. They're so well done, I can't imagine listening to any other books on CD, because I know they could never be as amazing as the ones read by Jim Dale. I listen to them over and over, and never get tired of them. It's great how many details you can pick up by listening to the story instead of reading it. So excited!!

Posted by darkhairhermy Mar 27th 2007

No way!!! This is all going so quickly... too quickly. Before we know it it'll all be over... This means that the audio is recorded already (??), so Mary Grand Pre will probably have finished the artwork if this is done... wow! So many people have already read book 7 (The audio book recorder and editor, the artist, the publishers...) I hope I don't get spoiled by anyone. OMG!

Posted by harrypotterfan20202 Mar 27th 2007

yey!! i love the audio cds!!

Posted by christianaeg Mar 27th 2007

YES!!! i was a little worried that i would have to wait for the audio! I got into the audio when i was 4 or 5 and couldn't read lol! My older sis read me HP then we got the tapes.......

Posted by christianaeg Mar 27th 2007

LOL Mugglenet got mentioned in a news site: (take out the spaces) http://www.hindu.com/2007 /03/27/stories/2007032717 530200.htm

Posted by buckbeak7 Mar 27th 2007

I love the audiobooks! Jim Dale does an excellent job. w00t!

Posted by ninja58 Mar 27th 2007

Personally, I like reading the books myself.

Posted by Emery Mar 27th 2007

Yay, comment 50. Besides that, I think it's *madly* overpriced. =P Emery
