OOTP actors talk about the film
OOTP actors talk about the film Last September, Entertainment Weekly caught up with the actors on the Order of the Phoenix set, where they were in the midst of shooting the climax Department of Mysteries sequences.

Director Yates recently watched the "Detention With Dolores" scene with a test audience in Chicago, and he said: "The theater went very, very still. Dolores does it with a smile and a cup of tea. That's what makes her really horrifying."

The trio is growing older, and by the time the Deathly Hallows movie comes out, Dan's expected to be 20 and Rupert 21. According to Dan, "And people come up to me and say, 'Do you not think you're getting too old for the part?' It's lunacy." But even Radcliffe admits that he and his castmates certainly look dramatically different. "I saw a bunch of continuity photos from the first film the other day. It was quite incredible. We've changed so much, it's unreal."

I smell fresh news...off to read!

Posted by missinconspicuous Mar 30th 2007

Ooh, more OotP stuff? I feel spoiled today ^__^

Posted by IwannameetJK Mar 30th 2007

Yippeeeeeeeeeee! Got some reading to do.

Posted by thats_nifty Mar 30th 2007

Ah, I love that scene. Sounds awesome.

Posted by pimpdaddywupwup Mar 30th 2007

This is going to be the best movie of the summer. better then transformers and spiderman 3.

Posted by harrypotterfan20202 Mar 30th 2007

of course it's gonna be the best movie of the summer!! 6th?

Posted by itsup2usoftball Mar 30th 2007

I'm glad that Dan won't think he'll be too old for the part in DH. I'm so glad the trio has been signed to do the final two movies.

Posted by Doxybiter_DH_ Mar 30th 2007

Well... that'll be a challenge for the make-up team then..

Posted by MichelleLynn Mar 30th 2007

i think im just as excited for the movie as i am for the book. july just cannot get here fast enough!

Posted by thats_nifty Mar 30th 2007

Whoa, wait a minute... "Phoenix will run under two and a half hours and be the shortest film so far." The longest book is the shortest movie? I don't know how I feel about that...

Posted by itsup2usoftball Mar 30th 2007

thats_nifty: I know! Argh! That does make me mad. Its amazing: Sorcerer's Stone is the longest one yet, and I wouldn't be surprised if it will be the longest one overall. *sigh*

Posted by TomMarvoloRiddle Mar 30th 2007

By the time people are late teens and early twenties it's hard to accurately guess their ages. None of the trio is particularly old/mature looking, so their age shouldn't be an issue. Tom Felton is twenty already isn't he? Or there abouts.

Posted by Dadu701 Mar 30th 2007

ya, i used to act a lot when i was younger on movies and stuff, an they always have poeple play younger roles, so the fact that they are going to be so old at the end of the series duznt surprise me. top twenty!

Posted by chommy Mar 30th 2007

TOP 20!

Posted by Sanj Mar 30th 2007

"Phoenix will run under two and a half hours and be the shortest film so far" thats_nifty;;I know exactly what you mean! The longest book = the shortest movie? Nope, that doesn't exactly go together...makes me really mad! itsup2usoftball;; yeah, it'd be really strange if the longest book was the shortest movie and the shortest book was the longest movie... ...but other than that, the movie seems FANTASTIC -- I can't WAIT! :)

Posted by susanova Mar 30th 2007

I think the comments about "wow, he's really short in person" are just hilarious. Dan is just not a big guy, and that's OK. It seems like his slight build would help balance out the age-thing.

Posted by asleep_at_the_moment Mar 30th 2007

that is rather funny, quite. im placing all my bets that on april 3rd jo will major update...

Posted by roxorgirl13 Mar 30th 2007

really, thats cool, he does look alot different though!

Posted by ChoChang Mar 30th 2007

YAY! More please.

Posted by nineandthreequarters Mar 30th 2007

Ooh, thanks for the link! I think Radcliffe is right- it's kinda cool to watch them all grow up. As for his height, well, pre-Oprah couch jumping Tom Cruise (when he was actually known for his acting) wasn't any slouch and he's quite short as well. :D Henh. That didn't come out quite right...

Posted by rinaann Mar 30th 2007

yay! i cant wait

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry Mar 30th 2007

yay for evil Umbridge! i love that scene.....so excited! ~8]

Posted by Die_Zimtzicke Mar 30th 2007

It's traditional for actors to play younger than they are. I don't have a problem with it. I agree the fact that Dan isn't real tall helps his Harry look more vulnerable. As for what was cut, it's nothing I cared about, so I don't mind.

Posted by HPBrian Mar 30th 2007

Having seen many 25 to 30 year olds playing teen-agers over the years, I have no problem with Dan, Rupert and Emma playing 17 at 21. I'm glad to know they will be finishing the series.

Posted by joyflo Mar 30th 2007

that's the beauty of makeup and the silver screen, they can make you look ANY age that they want. all three actors are going to perform brilliantly.

Posted by Meitar Mar 30th 2007

yes thats_nifty It's strang...but the first movie was the best by showing all the book and without removing parts like the pther movies...and I thoght that OotP will be somthing like three hours!!!

Posted by bscorp Mar 30th 2007

(I feel like the old lady in the old Burger King Commercials!) ........ "Where's Snape!!??"

Posted by wishmyhairwasred Mar 30th 2007

they do a pretty decent job of making them look young, though...

Posted by hp_bookworm Mar 30th 2007

lol yeah what happened to the small 11 year old harry with the fringe ? he grew up and stripped off in equus. haha nah im just joking, im glad the trio will be back for the final movies and i dont hav a problem with their age, i don't think they look too old. I CANT WAIT FOR OOTP AND DH!!!

Posted by Silverswan Mar 30th 2007

You know, it's not really that hard to make a 20-year-old look like a 17-year-old. And in many shows, characters look older than they're supposed to.

Posted by Jax_Draconia Mar 30th 2007

Bah! I'm scared! The longest book became the shortest movie??? This should be interesting...

Posted by jordan_thewizard Mar 30th 2007

Do the people who ask him this haven't read the books and think Harry never ages?

Posted by Quiscalus Mar 30th 2007

Longest book as the shortest film... doesn't sound yummy. Truth to be told, I'm more excited for POTC 3 than OoTP movie.

Posted by luv_hp_4ever Mar 30th 2007

the age isnt thaht big of a difference and since dan is only 5' 6" it wnt be that hard. rupert does look kinda old nut i dont think it is a problem! oh and OMG i cannot wait until the ' Detention with Delores' scene! ahh it was deffinately one of my favorite and most hated in the book! it made me dispise umbridge even more and it sounds like the movie will be just like i imaginede it! CAN"T WAIt!

Posted by Hasy_n_purrinG Mar 30th 2007

Maybe the actors are older than their characters, but there's no way around that. I would rather have them look older than have someone else. And I hope this movie is great, if it's the best so far, then I won't complain about the length. Did anyone see the new picture of Sirius?? I think he's got a bit too much hair..

Posted by skates Mar 30th 2007

Oh gosh, I'm sooooooooooooo exited!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the highlight of MY SUMMER, BUT "NO DUH" RIGHT!!! My expectations are high for OOTP, and I hope it won't be let down like in GOF. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the movie the first and second times I saw it, but POA is my fav LOL/ I'm stilll trying to comprehend with the fact that we'll be getting OOTP AND Dh in the SAME MONTH!!!!!!!!!!! woot!!!!!!!!!

Posted by K8y Mar 30th 2007

OotP is sounding better and better by the day! :-) By the way, does anyone know how to remove the mugglenet countdown from your desktop? I downloaded it and now my desktop is a bit messed up! Can anyone help? Thanks!

Posted by pixie_sandy Mar 30th 2007

he sure has changed alright! god i just can't wait for the movie!!!!!!!!! and by the way ginny looks amazing! :)

Posted by Janie_Malfoy Mar 30th 2007

Yay!! Im so excited by all this new stuff!! I am a little sad, I mean the longest book is the shortest movie?

Posted by ravenwing Mar 30th 2007

This article is def. a must-read and got me very excited about the movie! To be fair about the length and all of the cutting- there is a lot in the book that (though important and revealing) would be really tedious to play out on the screen. I'm dissapointed that the Quidditch isn't in this though- we have missed out on a lot of Ron's development in the films.

Posted by gryffindorgrl10 Mar 30th 2007

I really don't have a problem with their ages at all. In reality they are shooting a year earlier than when the film is released, so it's all relative. Also, some people forget that the characters of the Harry Potter books grow up--which is sort of unconventional for child fantasy books. I'm glad they are sticking to it till the end :) Really looking forward to the 5th film!

Posted by Helene Mar 30th 2007

I think the age-thing is just fine; re: the length of the film; how long could it be, really, without losing some of the pacing--Yates knows what he's doing-

Posted by Ithilwen Mar 30th 2007

Sweet. Their ages never bothered me. They look young, the camera always takes off years, and if need be makeup artists can make them look younger. So no problem there. I actually like seeing how they've grown up. You can't expect them to look 11 forever (even Bonnie is starting to look older, thank goodness). I'm a little worried about the shortness of the movie, though. I don't want it to be another Goblet of Fire, where everything flashed up in such quick succession with hardly any transitions. I hope they can make everything smooth, even if it is short.

Posted by queeny Mar 30th 2007

cool! :D

Posted by siriusblackhead Mar 30th 2007

awwww poor rupert didn't get to be a quidditch star :( its cute he's bummed out, i think. (I love you rupert)

Posted by antinous Mar 30th 2007

Have all the people who are complaining about the stars being too old for their parts seen the cover of the UK children's edition of Deathly Hallows? Harry looks like he's thirty five in the artwork.

Posted by sticky Mar 30th 2007

aahhh cool...omg i really cannot wait any longer..can you wait?? cos i cant wait!!!eeehhhhhhhh he he he to me their age doesnt matter..well ok if emma look like she was forty then yeah but otherwise...nope......the ir acting is more important to me....and that is always fab!!!!!

Posted by hpintwense06 Mar 30th 2007

ahhh so the director does sit in on screenings. they were discussing that issue on MuggleCast. anywho, it will be a bit strange at how old they will be by the time DH comes out, but I mean, actors can do younger parts. They're doing it right now, even.

Posted by SucramDragon Mar 30th 2007

i wouldnt care if they were 27 when DH comes out cause these movies are the best ones ever...........CAN'T wait for the new movie and book to come out, they both come out about a week after my birthday. this will be the best birthday gift.

Posted by Leticia_Grint Mar 30th 2007

loved that. i think it's the best OOTP report ever put on a magazine...=)
