Printing of DH begins in Germany
Printing of DH begins in Germany The Mirror is reporting today that initial printing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has begun at a GGP print factory in the small town of Poessneck, Germany. Reportedly, staff at the factory are searched when entering and leaving the factory each day. Furthermore, they are forced to work in "total darkness" to prevent them from reading the book. While we already know that security is stricter for this book, this seems to be a rather outlandish measure (and, well, The Mirror is a tabloid).

no lights? hahahaha

Posted by thats_nifty May 26th 2007

Lol. No light...

Posted by LDJames May 26th 2007

Lol, that's silly. They'd chop their fingers off or something. o_O The searching I can understand, but turning the lights off? Heh...

Posted by jen_92 May 26th 2007

Wow, in Germany?

Posted by TypicalHorror May 26th 2007

Wether, they make them work in total darkness, or keep them as prisoners until the day after the book is released is okay with me....Just as long is my precious potter isnt spoiled for me. .....by "ANY" means neccessary.

Poessneck (Pößneck in German) isn't far away from my village ;)

Posted by Quiscalus May 26th 2007

Okay, 'The Mirror' is totally exaggerating. How can you work in 'total darkness'? I'm still afraid of spoilers though. I'm not sure how to avoid them. I doubt nothing will leak, but I hope it doesn't reach my ears... or eyes.

Posted by Glubad May 26th 2007

wow, searching the staff is REALLY serious...

Posted by evilbutsexy May 26th 2007

hahaha that's funny, but they are definitely not telling the truth. You can't work in TOTAL darkness. It's fine though...I don't want DH to be spoiled like HBP was....I'm looking ONLY on MN for my HP news--no where else!

Posted by slastankya May 26th 2007

The Mirror has to be exaggerating. They may be using black lights or darkroom lights to keep it hard to read, but total darkness has to be a violation of work labor laws.

Posted by writergurl013 May 26th 2007

That's CRAZY!!! They wouldn't make people work in total darkness, they'd end up killing themselves or something. Or worse, hurting the book! o_O

Posted by purplepeopleeater92 May 26th 2007

I hate that Quibbler -- i mean the Mirror.

Posted by adriennecray May 26th 2007

oook, thats a bit odd, but I'm glad there's good security on the book, even though spoilers will leak eventually.

Posted by beccat_hermione May 26th 2007

that is hilarious. i'd like to try to work in total darkness. hahaha. if there are bloodstains on our pages, we'll know that this little experiment of theirs didn't work.

Posted by dune9694 May 26th 2007

That's funny, knowing that you have to go to work everyday in the dark! I can't believe though that someone somewhere is hold DH.

Posted by HP_freak_fan1 May 26th 2007

I don't think that's true- at least not the darkness part. It would be good to have strict security though.

Posted by KayBird May 26th 2007

I love the "(and, well, The Mirror is a tabloid)." comment. I'd love to see how working total darkness works out for them. You'd have an assortment of misprinted books...

Posted by soccerluver13 May 26th 2007

Hahaha working in total darkness. Doubt it... 55 DAYS (:

Posted by HPgeek4LIFE May 26th 2007

how can they see if its total darkness? i dont get it. and its just a book. its not like a war or like global warming. i dont see why its gotten to be such a big security issue.

Posted by Carbon May 26th 2007

How are they supposed to work in the dark? and aren't there health and safety laws?

Posted by plutogirlgenius May 26th 2007

Haha if they're working in total darkness, it's only a matter of time until they start hyponotizing them when they leave. Y'know, just in case their eyes adjust and they start to read it :)

Posted by szara May 26th 2007

I live in Berlin, and now I have the strong desire to drive to the factory and steal a book. I wouldn´t spoil anyone, I just would make a lot of money on bets. The book is so close, yet so far away. i can hardly wait.

Posted by Harrys_princess May 26th 2007

Wow working in total darkness , thats amazing. Isn't this is Germany ? Most aren't likely to even understand the words being that its in another language. writergurl013

Posted by hgshipper31 May 26th 2007

i'm so glad i live in America! I do not want blood stains on my precious hp book. im praying for u guys in germany!

Posted by Harrys_princess May 26th 2007

sorry my comment got cut off.... but what said was writergurl013 ,,,, was that they better not hurt my book either!

Posted by fanaticallyobsessed May 26th 2007

HAA. Total Darkness. Hilarious. And Plutogirlgenius, Hilarious again :P

Posted by roadtripkaraoke May 26th 2007

Yeah, my guess is the no lights thing is BS. Anyway, does this mean that I'll be able to find an english copy of the book while I'm in Austria during the release :-D ????????

Posted by PurplePastille May 26th 2007

Hey. It is THE book. But I really think that the idea of working in total darkness is ridiculous. I mean, IF they are actually working in total darkness, I'd be amazed if they can actually assemble the books. ;)

Posted by AnnaLena May 26th 2007

Szara, 'The book is so close, yet so far away.''..You're totally right.I live near Hanover

Posted by sillyme May 26th 2007

there's probably some light, otherwise they wouldn't be able to see what they were doing! then we'd have page 150 switched with page 784, or something, lol. that would be awful! and the people making it would probably go crazy being in the dark all the time. ohhh dh is so near! ahhhh!

Posted by LindaW May 26th 2007

hahaha could you imagine geting the book, and the pages being all out of order, cuz they worked in the dark??? i'd love it- search for the next page!!! lol

Posted by Jax_Draconia May 26th 2007

I feel like that isn't entirely accurate. Can't imagine what gave me that impression...

Posted by polkadots56 May 26th 2007

wow.

Posted by myhermione May 26th 2007

Well, german made-to-measure... we just like to do things properly! ;-)

Posted by scurvy_cur May 26th 2007

pffft! yeah coz we trust the mirror! lol its pretty funny the hings they come up with!

Posted by XStraightXEdgeX May 26th 2007

hey it's fine by me, as long as they don't get first dibs on reading the beautiful book, and as long as i get a copy of it....andddddddd as long as they don't have a chance to read it while printing it...but it's prob a lie, you can't print a book in totally darkness...can you?

Posted by mariatc May 26th 2007

well, if its true they are working in total darkness....okay with me! i mean, with half blood prince we already speculated dumbledore was going to die because the workers of the factory that was printing the book all of the sudden started betting a lot of money that dumbledore was going to die... so...i reallly dont care if thewy search them, or make them work in darkness, or keep them locked up until july 21st if all that means the books wont be spoiled :)

Posted by Peachfuzz11 May 26th 2007

They should let them work with the lights but make them sleep at the factory until July 21st..... sorry workers

Posted by Fisheye May 26th 2007

Working in total darkness is forbidden by law in germany I think. So forget it^^

Posted by luv_hp_4ever May 26th 2007

haha!!!! no lights!?!?!?!?! thats halarious!!!! but what if they put the book together wrong... like putting the ending at the begining and vise versa... lol... and y Germany... maybe that town thing has no people or something... who knows... probably a tabloid but id laugh if it was true. Whatever they do is fine with me as long as nothing gets put and if this is the solution then keep it up!!!

Posted by Bobbsi May 26th 2007

It appeared in no german news that the workers have to work in the dark...I think this is made up rubbish!!! And again (as in the news where our release-date was announced): Most of us can speak english....those workers would be able to read the book... Ohhhh.....I can't wait ;)

Posted by soccerluver13 May 26th 2007

I'm thinking they should just lock 'em in the factory and they can't leave till the 21st.. :D

Posted by harrys_metamorphmagus May 26th 2007

i understand all these safety precautions, and searching the workers is a bit over the top, but still understandable, but no lights? that's just ridiculous. this is probably just some stupid tabloid rumor.

Posted by Swansonblvd May 26th 2007

Total darkness? That has got to be bullshit. How could they even see what they're doing? It's only a book, after all.

Posted by grednforge May 26th 2007

haha that's interesting

Posted by Abigail May 26th 2007

Hmmm ... you'd think there'd be safety issues too, no?

Posted by romildavan May 26th 2007

okay, so i know this is just a really good book that everyone is loving., but realistically, if someone reads it before its out, its not the end of the world. its probly more dangerous to work in the dark then to read it. stupid security.

Posted by snapefan4 May 26th 2007

O.K. I undestand that they want to take high measures to prevent anything about the from leaking but risking gettin sued because someone might get a hand chopped off because they can't see what their doing? I don't know about you guys but I think thats just a wee bit overkill.

Posted by SomebodyElse May 26th 2007

Um . . . chill, people. That is WAY, WAY overboard. Is there no trust at all? Surely they have to sign contracts and millions of other safety precautions, is this absolutely necessary? Plus, (I know I'm beginning to sound like Hermione with SPEW), you don't make people work in pitch black. Get a grip.
