GrandPre: Reason for everything on DH cover
GrandPre: Reason for everything on DH cover The American Harry Potter illustrator, Mary GrandPre, recently spoke in an interview about her coveted job and a little about the Deathly Hallows cover. On whether people pester her for inside info on the books, Mary says: "Not really so much. I think people just know that I can't talk about it."

She says the cover of Book 7 is probably her favorite and thinks "it's fun to see the reaction from people. The fans that are really diehard fans look very closely at the artwork.

"I try to make everything have a meaning. There is a reason why something is in the illustration. I don't just put it in because it looks better. It really does have to have a meaning or part of the story has to support it."

Isnt it time they revealed deluxe edition cover?

Posted by i_have_spoken13 Jun 5th 2007

Did anyone notice on the US cover that neither Harry nor Voldemort is carrying a wand? What do you expect this means???

Posted by maki Jun 5th 2007

her work is great! I didn't like ss, cos and poa covers...but gof, ootp, hbp and dh are GREAT! and uk covers are pretty nice too! they're WAY different...I personally like the DH's us cover best...but I have something for the uk cover...I just like to see the trio in it I guess...

I just cannnot believe it. IT'S COMING OUT THIS SUMMER!!! and i can't wait to find out what the artwork means.

Posted by Harryfan20 Jun 5th 2007

Huh? How come everyone is saying Harry doesn't have a scar on DH? It's very faint, but it's there. His hair is sort of covering it, isn't it? Or is it confirmed 100% that there is no scar?

Posted by RKRK1313 Jun 5th 2007

i think someone was asking whether they think the curtains have anything special about them on the DH cover... well this is just my 2 cents... but i think they are just there to show finality in the series... if you remember, sorcerers stone has curtains as well being the first book in the series... i think the curtains on this book are just showing a little symmetry and closing off the series. kind of sad to think about actually... but other than that i dont think they have any particular meaning..

Posted by phoenixtears81 Jun 5th 2007

No it is not confirmed that Harry does not have his scar on the cover. I zoomed in and cleared up the picture on my computer and do not see his scar (not even a faint outline), but I don't think it means anything. I think it is just covered by his hair.

Posted by phoenixtears81 Jun 5th 2007

If you zoom in on the HBP cover, his scar is not visible there either.

I love the British, but the American are just as good. I like American better than British this time around though, which is unusual for me. mary GrandPre always does an awesome job though.

I THINK IT'S THE CURTAINS SHE'S TALKING ABOUT. when i first saw da cover, i thought it was a bit too artistic to have the curtains in there, but now she mentions it, i'm sure it's the curtains.

lol retarded americans

I always love looking at the cover art, then reading the book and realizing what it all means. At first I'm always so curious about what the cover art means or what scene it's from, but once I get to that scene in the book I always flip to the cover, trying to scope out any detail i may have missed. I love the HP art!

Posted by Harryfan20 Jun 6th 2007

Oh. Well thanks phoenixtears81 for helping clear up the scar thing.

Posted by xXinsanity92Xx Jun 6th 2007

harry's scar is there, its just not that conspicuous [[sp?]] when you first look..

Posted by ginny101 Jun 6th 2007

ohhhh I ws just lookin gat the cover really closely and noticed harry has nooo scar...wow am probably like the last person in the universe to pick up on that....I must have missed that edition of mugglecast. Oh i am so excited now! what does this mean? any ideas?

I absolutely love the American covers! GrandPre does an amazing job. She obviously gets to read either all of the book or parts of the book since each chapter in the American editions has a picture.

Hello there!! i just signed up to mugglenet!! luvn it! wooo! has it not occured to anyone except from myself and another guy that pointed it out the other day but was ignored by everyone that the curtains are clearly the veil in the department of mysteries!!! makes perfect sense! also my theory on harry having no wand.... have been re reading the other books, just to get refreshed, and in OOTP i noticed that during the dementor attack on harry and dudley, harry ignites his wand without even holding it. i think that in DH harry may become so powerful that he doesnt even need his wand, there have been plenty of hints to harry untapped power throughout the series! Voldermort marked him as equal remember!! equall in powers too?? plus harry can love! lol. luv the books tho!! freakin awesome! also, someone mentioned the scar on harrys hand in an earlier post... i was thinkin possibly the scar left after umbridge's detentions?? wot you all think??? oooo also im betting that dumbledores brother is gona have a big role in the next book. he's been mentioned twice in passing.... far too important a guy to just mention.......much luv!

Posted by Sarah_Louise Jun 7th 2007

hi aberforth_dumbledore, your theory on the curtains being the ones in the department of mysteries certainly isnt just shared by you and this other guy. Go to the Cos (chamber of secrets) Forums, that theory has been debated over and over again since the release of the cover art.

Ummm... There's not much on the cover for the seventh book to have meaning! It's just a pic of Harry and that's it. How is that supposed to be so meaningful of the plotline?

Posted by Featherally Jun 10th 2007

I'd really like to see her sketchbook. Whenever someone designs something like this, they usually do up several different 'versions', and I'll bet there are ones that give away more information, but Jo didn't want them.

welll..this may have been discused before BUT WHO IS THAT ON HARRY"S BACK HOLDING THE SWORD??? In the UK book cover
