Interview with Bertie Botts Every Flavor Band:

1. Why do you play wizard rock?

We all love to play music and listen to music, and we love to read, so when we heard Harry and the Potters, we decided to try it out and it just stuck with us. Now it's a way for us to just hang out on a regular basis and just enjoy ourselves as well as sharing it with other people.
2. What do you personally get out of being in a wizard rock band?

We get to value just the feeling of unity --- everyone reads, so there's some kind of common ground. It's a great way to get motivated and we love to meet new people.
3. What influences your music/your style?

The people around us definitely influence our style – we all listen to different types of music from Broadway to country to indie to R&B so we try to use what talents we can to write all sorts of things. Right now we're on our big Broadway kick.
4. How long have you been playing?

We've been playing just for a few months, five I think, but it's been so much fun.
5. Do you plan to continue having shows and writing songs even though
the Harry Potter series has been completed, and why?

Oh, definitely! We've played several shows and we're totally still writing songs and looking for gigs to play around with. Just because the series has ended doesn't mean that there's not anything to write about anymore. Goodness, there are seven books and tons of fans still around. Why not keep going? Besides, it's fun.
6. What is your favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

Definitely performing. We love to get up on stage with everyone and just wrock out, getting everyone involved. That and we dig some improvisation.
7. What is your least favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

I don't think there is a least favorite part. It's unique and fun. That's what matters.
8. What advice do you have for potential future wizard rockers?
Stick it to the evil wizard man! :] No, just keep going, no matter what people think. It's a really fun and inviting experience and totally worth the time.
9. How do you explain wizard rock to people who are new to the genre
or to people who (heaven forbid) have never read Harry Potter?

We sing about Harry Potter --- it's a way to get more people involved in reading. They hear this music and they're like 'Hey! I want to check what this is all about.' And so they do. It's all about standing up for what you believe in, even though those evil Death Eaters might be up against all of us.
10. Is your band completely DIY, and do you think that being
completely DIY is an integral part of being a wizard rock band?

Our band is completely DIY and yes, being a DIY band completely encompasses what Wizard Rock is. We don't use those powers who use evil means to produce things for the wrong reasons. We do this for fun, for love of the series and love of our fellow fans. It's not for profit and that's what a lot of production labels seem to miss.
11. Have you ever been approached by a corporate record-label asking
to sponsor your band? If so, what was your reaction and if not, what
would your reaction be in such a situation?

Yes, we have. Thankfully, we had a gentleman who was very respectful of our response to his ad. We explained that Wizard Rock is purely DIY and that is what harbors it. Wizard Rock is a movement with enough power behind us, the people, alone and that's the way it was meant to be. Thankfully, he was very polite in response and wished us luck.
12. Has your band ever had any copyright-infringement issues, and if
so how have you dealt with them?

No, we haven't luckily.
13. Is there any specific message you would like to share with your fans?

We're multi-flavored beans--- some pretty, some not! --- but we keep on doing what we love because we can. Not because others told us not/to. Stick it to the evil wizard man. :]
