Interview with Justin Finch-Fletchley:

1. Why do you play wizard rock?

Because it's awesome. It's fun. It's a great way to release my creativity. It's a great way to meet new exciting creative people. It's a great way to meet and/or perform with others who are just as fun and exciting.

2. What do you personally get out of being in a wizard rock band?

The power and freedom to do what I want with my music. I also get the opportunity to be involved in the greatest music community I have ever seen or been involved with.

3. What influences your music/your style?

The awesome wizard rock fans are a gigantic influence. My friend Matt also is a big influence.

4. How long have you been playing?

Longer than I haven't. Seriously, probably 15+ years.

5. Do you plan to continue having shows and writing songs even though the Harry Potter series has been completed, and why?

Yes. I believe that every page in every book could have a song about it if need be.

6. What is your favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

The opportunity to combine literature, music, and comedy and then play
it for a butt-load of people who love literature, music and comedy.

7. What is your least favorite part of being in a wizard rock band?

My least favorite part would be that the Sugar Quills have not shown up for a single show yet. I have tried to address this at band meetings but they do not show up for those either.

8. What advice do you have for potential future wizard rockers?

If you have an idea you can accomplish anything.

9. How do you explain wizard rock to people who are new to the genre or to people who (heaven forbid) have never read Harry Potter?

That's easy. I write songs from my perspective and from my character's perspective on how things appear to happen in the novels.

10. Is your band completely DIY, and do you think that being completely DIY is an integral part of being a wizard rock band?

I believe that JFF&TSQ are completely DIY. I didn't make the rules so
I don't think it's mandatory to be a DIY band, but I would respect you a lot more if I knew how hard you worked to get there.

11. Have you ever been approached by a corporate record-label asking to sponsor your band? If so, what was your reaction and if not, what would your reaction be in such a situation?

Yes, in my muggle rock bands and also in Wizard Rock. I have had many different reactions based on the details provided by the parties involved. To sum it up, all of my reactions were dipped deeply in a delicious hot batch of sarcasm. To all the people who are fairly new or inexperienced my advise would be that there are many, many, many labels out there with $$$$ to spend on what they think is the next big thing. I can't say from experience about what happens to you after you sign the dotted line but I can say that they gave the same insincere email ("We really like your music/We think you'll be a great addition to our roster") to the band before you and they are giving the same email to the band after you just to spike their numbers. Their only concern is their own financial gain. Politely decline any offers, or take my road and have a lot of fun un-politely declining.

12. Has your band ever had any copyright-infringement issues, and if so how have you dealt with them?

I am not aware of any copyright-infringement issues.

13. Is there any specific message you would like to share with your fans?

Two words: "Thank you."
